Chapter 6 Finally, a family of my own
****
As dawn was approaching, the local village men were assembling together. The air that morning was very chilly. Winter was coming and it was time for the seasonal hunting to begin in order to have a fair stock of meat on hand for the winter months to come in each hut.
The village leader, Lynx, headed over to Keade's hut once the assembly of hunters was completed. He needed to get the head of the hunting party out of bed. He knocked next to the huts flap. Sango, whose bed was closest to the entranced, answered.
"Good morning, Sango. Please inform Inuyasha we are ready and waiting for him." Lynx said.
"Thank you Lynx, I will. And good morning to you too." Replied Sango as she yawned.

Thanks to Inuyasha's youkai senses, he had already smelled Lynx approaching and heard the conversation. But the thing was, he was just too comfortable and warm to move since he was spooned up against Kagome.
But he knew he had to get up. The villagers were counting on him. You see, Inuyasha does most of the hunting. With his stealth and skills, he is able to bring down prey quicker then any man-hunter. Pretty much the only job the village men do while out with the dog-demon, was to clean out the carcasses and pile the meats into the carts they brought.
Inuyasha sighed to himself as he sat up in bed. He gazed at his slumbering mates face before getting up to dress.
"Now that I have a family to protect and provide for, I'm going to need to make sure to bring down enough meat for us as well…..which means I'm going to need some help." He looked down at where Shippou was still snoring at. He knew at that up till know, he didn't think Shippou was ready for hunting, but since their so called `heart-to-heart' talk, Inuyasha decided that it is time teach him everything there is about hunting. And that meant starting now with the first hunt of the season. The hanyou gave a soft thump to Shippous head.
"Time to get up, Pup. Your coming with me today." Shippou slowly sat up to look at Inuyasha as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
"What are you talking about Inu-Papa?" He questioned as a rather large yawn escaped his mouth. Inuyasha crouched down to Shippous level and took a good look at him.
"I'm right in assuming your Papa hasn't shown you how to hunt."
"Hai….I wasn't old enough yet when the Thunder Brothers……" He trailed off at the thought of what had happened to them. But he quickly shook his head.
"Well, I think you are. Any pup of mine will know how to hunt at a young age. Are ya ready? It's not going to be easy, mind ya."
"You bet I'm ready!!" He squeaked. But, as they made their was over to the door, Kagome sat up in bed.
"And where do you think you two are going? And you, my young one, aren't going anywhere yet until we have a little talk. So, come back and sit down please."
Kagome was very calm when she spoke. She didn't like was she was about to do, but Shippou did disobey Sango and being that careless in times like these is unacceptable. But, before she was able to say anything and knock came to the door and Sango came in. Upon seeing Shippou , what sleep she had left, quickly turned into angry face. When she started to open her mouth to say something, Kagome raised her hand and motioned Sango to have a seat. She did as she was told as she looked over at Inuyasha.
"Lynx says it's time."
"Yeah, I heard, but Kagome wants to say something first before we leave."
"Yes, I do," Kagome started to say. She looked down at Shippou who was in her lap as she frowned.
`Ohh boy…..here it comes.' Shippou thought nervously.
"Shippou, did you get the satchel of money I gave to Sango for you?"
"Hai." He under his breath.
"And did Sango make sure to tell you to stay close to them when you were at the Market place?"
Silence.
"Shippou." Kagome possessed a tone in her voice that only mothers get when scalding their child.
Shippou cringed slightly at the sound of his name. He didn't like the way she said it. It is the same tone Kagome uses when she's about to `sit' Inuyasha.
"Hai." He softly spoke. But only Inuyasha was able to pick up on his answer.
"And what did you do?" Inuyasha queried.
"I snuck away from them to come back here after I was told to stay close."
Sango really wanted to put a piece of her mind into this conversation, but again, Kagome held up her hand, shaking her head.
"Shippou…..Do you have any idea how worried the others were about you? What if a bigger, stronger demon got a hold of you? No one would have known about, huh."
Shippou nodded his head slowly as his ears drooped down in a visible display of shame. He knew it was wrong, but he just had to go back.
"You knew what you did was wrong, therefore as hard as it is for me to do, are you ready for your punishment."
Inuyasha couldn't believe his ears. In the three years that they have been together, it was usually himself that got punished. Well, ok. Lets face it, most of the time he did deserve it, but….there were other times that Shippou should have gotten something, but didn't.
"Hai, I'm ready." Shippou quietly answered. Shuddering lightly, he looked at Inuyasha, wondering if the hanyou was going to be the punisher.
"That's good to hear you're big enough to realize your mistake Shippou. And I hope you learned your lesson. We all are only doing what is best for you and your safety. But I forgive you, kid. I'm just glad see ya safe. And Kirara is the happiest I think, at seeing her best friend safe as well." When Sango was done speaking, she exited the room to go help with breakfast.
"All right Shippou. Your punishment is as follows. You will not sleep beside me for three nights. Understand."
Inuyasha looked at Kagome with soft eyes. He has always known that she would be a very good mother with pups. And this further proved him right. She handled the situation and punishment with ease. In a way, she reminded him of his mother. She would never raise her voice at him, but always carefully explained to him why he was in trouble and what the punishment would be.
"Hai. I understand, Okaa-san."
Now that that was over, Kagome felt a little better. She's known for a while that she needed to be firmer with Shippou. He needs to know that being disobedient and not being punished for it will be stopped now. Especially since there might be other pups on the way later. She gave Shippou a quick hug.
"Now go eat. I need to talk with your `Papa.'" Kagome couldn't any longer contain her giggles. And when she looked over where Inuyasha was and saw the shocked look on his face, she laughed harder. Shippou couldn't quite figure out what his `mama' thought was so funny. But he did what he was told, leaving to go eat. He felt very sad about his punishment, but knew he had it coming for his actions.
When the door closed, Kagome finally stopped her laughing. She looked up at her mate and smiled one of her beautiful smiles at him. She walked over, putting her arms around his neck and whispered.
"Thank you, Inuyasha." She then pulled away just a little and gave him a sweet and very passionate kiss. When they broke, he spoke.
"So…..How much did you hear!?"
"Enough to know that there is no doubt in my mind about how good a father you will become. I am very proud of you. Asking Shippou if you could be his new `Papa.' Now, we better go and eat too. The village men are still waiting for their lead hunter. And keep a good eye on Shippou."
"Ohhh Gods, how I love you Kagome…..Maybe when I get back, we can start working on our own pup…..you are coming into heat today ya know." Inuyasha pushed himself against her to show how much he wanted her then and there.
"Inuyasha!! You animal." Kagome giggled out as she blushed a couple of shades of red.
"And your point being? You know you like it like that." Inuyasha dipped his head down to capture her lips for a very long and very deep passionate kiss. All the while grinding a certain spot against her. When they finally broke for air, they left the room for breakfast.
Keade had a great breakfast prepared. She knew Inuyasha and Shippou would be needing a good boost in their energy to make this hunting trip a successful one.
Inuyasha sat on the left of Kagome and Shippou sat on the right of her. Neither one of the demons saw the other staring at Kagome. But they were thinking the exact same thing.
`Finally, a family of my own.'
A/N…..Poor Shippou. Three nights without sleeping with Kagome!? That gata be rough. But, ohhh well. PLZ R/R
