7. A blue lily…

Sango slept for the most of the night. Inuyasha sniffed and licked her skin every now and then just to make sure she stayed healthy. During the night he thought about the last couple of days. A small twinge in his heart appeared as he thought about Kagome, but she seemed to have accepted his choice. She had been taught much about demons and their mating habits, he was sure of that.

"But if I am to take Sango as my mate, I must find us a place to live… "he sighed and his thoughts trailed away again. "If she is feeling alright tomorrow afternoon we should travel back to Kaede-sama's village. Kagome have talked a lot about some tests she has to do, perhaps it will be for the best if we go back. We can gather the shards later."

Somehow the shards were the least of his worries now.

¤ By the foot of the mountain… ¤

Kagome had trouble sleeping; her thoughts were with Sango and Inuyasha. The questions inside her grew larger. Was Sango ok? Was she jealous of the slayer, did she hate her because she had taken Inuyasha from her? For how long had Inuyasha seen Sango as potential mate? "Do I hate her, really hate her?" Kagome shook her head - how could she hate the woman she saw as an older sister? No, she did not hate Sango. Granted she was disappointed, but hate - no.

- Kagome-sama, are you still awake? asked Miroku and looked over the camp fire.

- Yes, I can not sleep; I keep on thinking about Sango and Inuyasha.

- Are you bitter?

- A bit, I admit that much, but I can not bring my self to hate her or him. I should have known from the beginning we met Sango that he would choose her. Especially after what Kaede-obaasan have taught me.

- What are you talking about? asked the monk and sat up in his sleeping bag.

- She said that when demons chooses their mates after strength and ability to provide food for their offspring. And when I saw the looks Inuyasha gave Sango from time to time, I think I knew already back then. She was strong, she knew how to hunt and provide a pack with food. She can defend her self as we saw today when she fought all those soldiers. Are you bitter Miroku-sama, I mean - I know you had your eye on her for a long time.

- No, not really, perhaps when I saw Inuyasha place the flower next to her head during this night I could feel something burning inside me, but when I saw them fight side by side - no, not really. They are perfect together.

- I agree Miroku-sama, said Kagome and stroked the red tail on Shippou who lay next to her.

- Let us get some sleep; I am sure they will return to us by tomorrow afternoon.

- Ok, good night Miroku.

- Good night Kagome.

It did not take long for the both of them to drift of to a content sleep. They had been through a lot, and at the same time, they had not done a thing.

¤ Under a pine tree.. ¤

Inuyasha stroked the soft skin on Sango's cheek, trying to wake her as gentle as possible. The sun had passed noon and he wanted to get back to Kaede-sama's village again. She would provide for better care of Sango's injuries. And it would be better for him too; her fertile scent was driving his demonic blood insane.

- Sango, koishii, please wake up, he whispered.

- Nooo, I don't want do wake up just yet, she mumbled and snuggled closer to his chest.

Inuyasha smiled a bit and lowered his head and kissed her satinlike lips. She was better he could tell. He let his tongue slip into her mouth and teased her until she was not able the form a single form of thought. She moaned and tried to arch into his touch. He stopped kissing her and rubbed his nose against hers.

- We must be going today, I will take you to Kaede-sama so she can work her magic on your leg, said Inuyasha.

Silence…

- And I bet Kagome wants to get back home, she have been talking about tests again has she not?

- Mmm, but Inuyasha, when did you began to refer Kaede-obaasan as Kaede-sama? Do you want to impress me or something? asked Sango and opened her eyes to look into his golden eyes.

- I.. I think have thought of her as Kaede-sama since the day we destroyed Naraku, mumbled Inuyasha, a small tint of red appeared on his cheeks.

- Ok, I think you will embarrass her if you are telling it to her face though, said Sango with a smile and sat up.

Her leg hurt a bit, but not as much as it had yesterday. Inuyasha helped her to clean the wound once again before making a new bandage. She washed her face and drank a bit from the ice cold water.

Inuyasha sniffed the air and found the scent trail of their friends. With gentle jumps he got them down from the mountain and a small fire indicated that Kagome and Miroku had not camp far from the mountain. But before he reached the camp he sat down at a pond and plucked a blue lily for his mate. She smiled brightly and caressed the soft petals with her fingers and then she kissed his cheek.

- You can be so cute my little dog boy, you know that don't you? she teased him.

He snorted but the smile could easily be seen in his eyes.
