Chapter 13: The Lech
Kagome's sleep was restless until just before dawn. For some reason, just as she could subconsciously feel her skin being warmed by the early morning rays, she slept better. At the time she didn't care why she slept so good, just that she was.
An hour or so later, when she finally woke up, she found out why she had begun to sleep so well.
"Morning, Sesshomaru." she said as she sat up. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at her and smirked. Kagome noticed his gaze was a little south of where it should have been. She looked down and saw that her kimono was open enough to show one of her nipples. She quickly adjusted it and wrapped her arms around her chest. She looked back up at his face and saw a rather lecherous smile gracing his lips. "Gah. You're almost as bad as Miroku." she said as she flopped back down on her pillow.
She was surprised when Sesshomaru suddenly appeared over her, his long, silver hair creating a curtain around them. "Would you have preferred it if I had taken advantage of the situation? I could have." He said, smirking. Then he became somber. "But I wouldn't. Not unless you want me to." he said sincerely.
He picked his right hand up off of the bed and cupped her cheek with it. Kagome turned her head a little to gently kissed his palm, but maintained eye contact with him. Sesshomaru dipped his head and replaced his palm with his lips for a quick, chaste kiss, then he rested his ear on Kagome's chest so he could listen to her heartbeat. Kagome lifted one of her hands and began to un it through Sesshomaru's hair. They stayed that way for a while until Sesshomaru sat up, looking stoic once again.
"You should get dressed. Breakfast will be served in twenty minutes." he said as he stood up. He would have walked away, but Kagome's soft hand on his arm stopped him. Sesshomaru turned to face her again, waiting for her to speak.
"Why are you acting like this? You're all nice to me and then an instant later, you're acting cold towards me. Why?" Kagome asked, her eyes pleading with him to tell her the truth.
"I was acting soft. I, Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western Lands, should not be soft." he told her coldly.
"I don't care. Emotions are not a weakness, and whether you like it or not, you have emotions. You can use them to make you stronger. They may get in the way sometimes, but most of the time, they do more help than harm. Why do you think that Inuyasha was able to defeat you so often? In case you don't remember, he got stronger after you threatened me. That was emotions." Kagome watch Sesshomaru tense while she talked.
"No. He got hurt when he tried to protect you." he said, getting angry.
"And he still won or you left, even after he was injured." she said. She got a sad look her her eyes. "I won't stay for you if you won't even admit that you have emotions. I don't expect you to completely change for me, and I can accept that. I understand that you are a youkai, but so is Shippo, and he has emotions and shows them freely." Kagome said, near tears.
"He is a child." Sesshomaru countered.
"Where do you think he learned it? He certainally didn't learn it from the world. He was taught by his parents." Kagome said as a tear slipped down her cheek.
Sesshomaru fought the urge to wipe the tear away as he spoke. "And they were killed."
"It wasn't a fair fight. It was two on one." Kagome replied.
"Shippo's father had a shard. It should have increased his power." he said.
"The other youkai had more shards. But he still fought to protect Shippo because he loved him. He died to protect his son." Kagome retorted. "And I don't think your father would have wanted his son to act like this." Kagome added.
"You know nothing of my father." Sesshomaru replied, a bitting edge to his voice.
"You want to know why I know next to nothing about him. No one will talk about him. You say I know nothing, then teach me." Kagome said, eyes pleading with him again.
Sesshomaru's face barely softened, but Kagome still noticed it. "Maybe later." he told her. "Breakfast will be ready in a few minutes."
Kagome bowed her head as she kneeled on her bed. "Listen. I don't care how you act around everyone else, I don't even care how you act around the other lords, but when we are alone, you can have emotions. No one will know about it." she pleaded with him. She then thought of something else. "I was thinking that maybe with the jewels help, I could become an acceptable mate for you. I don't really know what caused me to think that you would even want that. I guess you don't." Kagome said sadly, tears freely streaming down her face.
Sesshomaru grasped her chin and made her look up, but she kept her eyes acverted. He growled at that and it made Kagome look at him. "Do not presume to know what I do and do not want. Obviously you do not know if you would think that I wouldn't want you as my mate." Sesshomaru said. Kagome was shocked, but Sesshomaru continued before she could say anything. "I do want you. I want you more than the Tetsusaiga. I don't wish to appear weak." he said passionately. He had moved his hand from her chin to her cheek and wiped away her tears.
"I don't think you are weak, and if any of the other lords do, they are insane. You could be even stronger if you would learn to use emotions. They may be a weakness, but they are a strength as well." she said, leaning into his hand.
Sesshomaru leaned in closer and wrapped his free hand around her waist, pulling them closer. "We will talk about this more later. I will not do this often, but I apologize for my earlier actions." he said.
Kagome enfolded her arms around his neck and rested her forehead against his shoulder. "Apology accepted. I didn't really expect one this time, to tell you the truth." Kagome said as she relaxed into the embrace. Sesshomaru had snaked hand that had been on her cheek around her waist as well, and she felt both move in soothing motions. She suddenly pulled back with a yell. "Gah, you ARE as bad as Miroku."
Sesshomaru smirked. "I would think that I would have certain privileges now." he said, squeezing a little to emphasize his point. He chuckled a little when she squeaked her surprise.
Kagome shook her head and leaned it back on his shoulder with an exasperated sigh. "Warn me next time. Please." came the muffled reply from his shoulder.
He chuhckled again. "Where would the fun be in that?" he asked, ducking his head to plant a kiss on her cheek.
They were interrupted when a servant knocked on the door to announce that breakfast was ready. Kagome called back to let the servant know she would be down in a minute.
Quiet laughter drew her attention back to the person in front of her. She raised an eyebrow at him. "What are you laughing about?" she asked, swatting him on the arm.
Sesshomaru was shocked until he saw the playful teasing look on her face. While he had been in shock, she wiggled out of his grasp and was scooting across the bed, giggling. He started to chase after her, slowly so he wouldn't catch her too soon. Kagome reached the other side of the bed and almost fell off, but caught herself. She got up and ran through the curtain surrounding the bed. She looked behind herself, but didn't see Sesshomaru. She turned back around and looked up just in time to see Sesshomaru appear in front of her before she ran into him.
Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her and smiled. "I win. Now you should get dressed." Sesshomaru told her, nuzzling her neck, then gently nipping her pulse point.
Kagome gasped quietly. "I can't get dressed if you don't let me." She said as she leaned into him and snaked her arms around his neck when he started to soothingly lick where he had been previously nipping.
"I can't let you go. You'll fall." Sesshomaru said, smirking. "I wouldn't want that to happen."
Kagome pulled back from him, but he didn't let go. She looked up at him, but noticed his attention was elsewhere. She followed his gaze and nearly screamed at him. During her running around, the top of her kimono had come open agian. Instead, she placed her hand on his chin and drew his gaze up until it met her burning one.
"What do you think you were staring at?" Kagome asked sternly.
"I wasn't staring. I was admiring." Sesshomaru said haughtily. "It should be including in my privileges."
Kagome smirked at him. "We'll see. Now, let me go so I can get dressed." she said. Sesshomaru pouted, but nodded and let her go. Kagome stood on her tippy toes and gave Sesshomaru a quick kiss on his cheek.
"What was that for?" Sesshomaru asked, stunned.
"That was for being so cute when you pout." Kagome said as she went to the closet to get something to wear. "Should I expect any surprises in here?" she asked, pointing to the closet.
He shook his head. "No. I have done nothing." Sesshomaru said, walking up behind her.
Kagome shook her head as she opened the door and picked out a nice silvery blue kimono. It was plain, no patterns or embroidery on it, but Kagome thought it was nice. Sesshomaru had placed a hand on her stomach from his position behind her. Kagome looked back at him. "What do you think?"
Sesshomaru looked at it. "It was one of my mother's favorites. I think you will look beautiful in it. Of course, I think you would look beautiful in anything." he told her. "Or nothing." Sesshomaru added with a lecherous grin.
"Ugh, I'm going to get dressed. You get out." Kagome said, pushing him towards the door. Part way there, he stopped.
"I don't want to." he said, calmly.
"What are you talking about? I can't get changed if you don't leave." Kagome said, still trying to push him towards the door.
"Of course you can. It just a matter of whether or not you want to while I'm here." Sesshomaru said with a smirk.
"Getting to watch me change is NOT going to be one of your privileges." Kagome said, sternly.
Sesshomaru smiled. "I shall wait for you outside the door. You should hurry, I am sure the others are waiting for us." he said as he walked out the door.
Kagome hurriedly changed into the kimono and went out the door. She stepped out the door, and was shocked when she was grabbed from behind. Kagome was about to panic when she was turned around and brought face to face with Sesshomaru. "Don't do that to me again." Kagome warned. Then she noticed a strange look on his face. "What's the matter?" she asked concerned. "What's going...?" she began to ask, but Sesshomaru put a finger to her mouth to silence her.
"I think the youkai that attacked me is here." he whispered. "I don't know how they got in here, but they will not stay long. Stay close to me, I don't want anything to happen to you." Sesshomaru said, moving silently down the hallway towards the dining hall.
When Sesshomaru reached the doors outside the dining hall, he stopped to listen. He heard the other lords in the room chatting with Rosuto and Kagome's friends. There was also another female voice that he didn't recognize. He turned to Kagome and saw that she was looking at him curiously.
"The other lords, along with your friends are in there, but there is someone I don't know in there, and I can't catch a scent from them. I think it will be safe to go in." Sesshomaru told her in his usual tone of voice.
Kagome nodded and smiled at him. "I think you may be over reacting." she said, shaking her head and walking towards the door.
They entered the room and sat in the same places as the night before. They both immediately noticed the new demon in the room. From what Kagome could tell she was an Asura like Rosuto. She had unusual long dark hair. It was black with blonde, red, and brown streaks all through it. Her eyes were also rare. The iris and pupil of the eye were a gold color that seemed to glow, and were in the shape of ravens. The rest of the eye was black, which made the gold glow all the more. She had a faint powder blue marking on her forehead, but Kagome couldn't tell what shape it was because it was mostly hidden behind her bangs. She was dressed in a blood red kimono, but it had no sleeves and had high slits that went almost up to her hip.
Fokkusu was the first to speak. "You two are late. Did breakfast interrupt something?" he asked, a matching grin on Miroku's face.
Sesshomaru growled at him. "I am in no mood for your games, Fokkusu. Who is the girl? I don't like unannounced guests, and you know that. All of you should." he said from between gritted teeth.
"My apologies, Sesshomaru. We merely forgot to mention her last night. This is Raven, our pick. Raven, this is..." Karasuhebi said, but was cut short.
"I already know him and I'm letting you three know now, he's not up to par." Raven told them. "Demons can call me Raven, everyone else, don't bother talking to me." she said as she got up to leave.
Kuma was confused. "When did you meet him?" he asked.
"About two days ago." Kagome answered for her. "Am I right?" she asked, standing up and following after her some, directing a glare at her.
"I thought I said humans shouldn't bothering talking to me. All well, you're probably a dumb one and won't learn." she said, sounding exasperated. "I guess I'll just have to teach you personally." She said as she turned and jumped in the air to attack Kagome. Everyone was shocked, but Raven moved to fast for anyone to be able to do anything.
Everyone in the room was shocked, including Raven, when her attack was suddenly stopped by an invisable force. When everyone looked closer, they saw a blue dome surrounding Kagome and her friends.
"What the fuck happened?" asked a very confused Raven.
Kagome looked at her disdainfully. "You have obviously never faced a miko in a fight before. Why don't you start with the weak ones first, then work your way up to my level." Kagome informed her.
"I have fought and destroyed more miko's than I can count, so don't talk to me about working my way up. Who the fuck are you that you can do that?" she asked, pissed that this stupid human had stopped her. Raven had also been injured, when she struck the barrier, but she didn't want anyone to know that.
