Chapter 16: The Trip
Sesshomaru quickly went into his home and straight to his study. He had to stay away from Kagome. He was certain that she would be a wonderful mother, she already was, but he did not want her to have children yet. Child birth was always hard on human women, and Kagome was most definately human. Even though their mating would increase her life span greatly, she would remain human.
'Besides,' he thought, 'if she has an average youkai life span, there will be plenty of time for pups later.'
Sesshomaru sat down and glanced at his desktop and saw the paperwork he had yet to do. He sighed and reluctantly started working on it, though his mind frequently strayed to a certain miko. He went through the paperwork as quickly as he could, and shortly after he finished it, a servant knocked at his study door, alerting him to the fact that dinner would be serve in a few minutes. He curtly informed the servant that he would not be eating dinner that night, causing the servant to leave almost immediately, only pausing for a bow.
Sesshomaru couldn't be around her while she was in heat. He could hardly resist her when she wasn't in heat, and the spicy scent of her heat only made it harder for him to resist her, nearly impossible. He growled his frustration.
Sesshomaru managed to avoid Kagome for nearly six days, and he could tell she was still in heat. He was sitting in his study on the night of the fifth day and suddenly his door was opened and closed with a bang. He looked up, a scowl on his face, wondering who dared to enter without his permission, let alone announcing their pressence. The scowl disappeared instantly when he saw a mad Kagome standing in front of his door.
'Shit, why did she have to come in here now? She's at her most fertile time now.' Sesshomaru mentally groaned. Sesshomaru tried despreately to not breathe through his nose, but failed a few times. "Can I help you with something?" he asked her, trying to keep his voice even. Unfortunately, the only way he could do that was to keep his voice indifferent and cold.
Kagome walked right up to his desk, slammed her hands down on it, and leaned over it some to get right in his face. "Why have you been avoiding me all week? You haven't even been eating with the rest of us. You haven't been sleeping your bedroom or with me. What is happening to you?" When she had started speaking her voice had been harsh, but with her last sentance, her voice turned pleading, begging with him to tell her.
Sesshomaru stood up and walked around his desk, Kagome turning her body to follow his movements. When he got in front of her, he placed his hands on the desk behind Kagome, making her lean back a little. "You are happening to me." Sesshomaru told her, leaning forward a little more, pressing Kagome back more.
"What are you talking about?" she asked, confused by his response and his behavior.
"You're in heat." he told her, nuzzling into her neck.
"I'm what?" she squeeked.
"You're fertile and your body is sending off a scent that is driving me crazy. I could hardly resist you before, and when you went into heat, I didn't think I could. That's why I was avoiding you." Sesshomaru explained to her, trying to keep his thoughts straight, but her scent was starting to get to him.
Kagome looked at him, shocked at what he had said. She tried to say something, anything, but she couldn't. Her mind couldn't form a coherent sentance due to Sesshomaru's body pressing against hers.
"You should leave before I do something you aren't ready for." Sesshomaru warned her, stepping back from her a little so that she could get out.
Kagome didn't move from her place, only standing up a little straighter. "What if I am ready?" she asked him.
"Oh Kami-sama, don't tell me that. I would never be able to stop myself." Sesshomaru said and Kagome could see him physically stop himself from reaching out to touch her by clasping his hands behind his back. "If I do what my instincts and body are telling me to, you will get pregnant, and I don't want that yet." he told her, desperately trying to keep some distance between them.
"Why don't you want me to get pregnant? I thought you wanted pups with me?" Kagome asked, completely confused.
Sesshomaru growled at himself as he lost the battle and walked up to her and embrassed her. "I do want pups with you, but that can wait. I know that many human women die during childbirth. I don't want to lose you." Sesshomaru said, burying his head in the crook of her neck.
"What about what you told me before? What would happen when we mate." Kagome asked, timidly as she wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled into his arms.
"That will just make you live longer. You will still be wholey human. Pups can wait for a few years. I just want to be with you for now." Sesshomaru said, holding her body tight against his and rubbing her back.
"Now?" she asked and Sesshomaru nodded. "What about my scent? You said it drove you crazy." Kagome said, leaning her forehead on his shoulder.
"The scent of your heat isn't as strong. The intensity has been going down since you came in. I think I can control myself, just as long as you don't do anything to arouse me too much." Sesshomaru told her, setting himself on the floor, and then guided Kagome into his lap and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
Kagome leaned back into his chest as he leaned back into his desk. Sesshomaru bent his head down and rested his forehead on Kagome's shoulder and inhaled deeply through his mouth, tasting her scent as the air passed over his tongue. Kagome's breathing slowed and evened out, and Sesshomaru knew she was asleep. He relaxed and fell asleep himself shortly after.
When Sesshomaru woke up, Kagome was still peacefully asleep, her face turned into the crook of his neck, her hands on top of his. Then, he noticed where his hands were. One was resting high on her inner thigh, the other resting on her breast. He took a deep breath and found that her heat scent had passed, and gratefully nuzzled into her hair. Sesshomaru got an idea of how to wake Kagome up and put it into action.
Kagome slowly came back to reality, feeling a pleasant pressure on her chest. She gradually opened her eyes and looked down to her chest where the sensations were coming from. She was suddenly wide awake from the scene that she saw. Sesshomaru had leaned around her from behind, moved one side of her kimono out of his way, and was gently sucking on her right nipple and massaging her other nipple through the fabric with his free hand.
'Free hand,' she thought. 'Where's the other one?' Kagome looked down and saw his other hand resting on high on her inner thigh. "Oh God." Kagome said, but it ended in a moan as Sesshomaru increased his suckling and massaging motions. He also gently squeezed her thigh where his hand was resting and slid it up a little more. Kagome closed her eyes and leaned her head back, just enjoying the sensations.
Suddenly, everything stopped. "Morning." a voice said. Kagome opened her eyes and saw Sesshomaru with a wicked smile on his face that made her heart flutter. "Did you enjoy your wake up call?" he asked, the smile still in place.
"Did you have to do that to me?" Kagome asked, her breathing a little shallow from his minstrations. She then looked down, and saw that her kimono top was still open, and hurriedly closed it.
"Well, I don't think you would have liked the other the other idea that I had for your wake up." Sesshomaru said, making Kagome blush, just thinking of what he might have had in mind. "So, yes, I had to do that to you." Sesshomaru said, sitting back upright and leaning back against the desk behind him, and pulling Kagome back against his chest.
"Why did you do it. I thought there was a small problem." Kagome said, snuggling into his arms.
"No more problem." Sesshomaru said, moving his hands to massage her breasts again. "The problem went away." he whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine. He then nibbled on her ear lobe and eased one had into her top, rolling her nipple, causing her to moan.
"Before we do anything, I want to go see my mother and grandfather. I want them to know that I'm staying here and becoming your mate. They need to know. They deserve to know." Kagome said, arching her back to push her chest harder into his hand.
Sesshomaru took his cue and increased his massaging. "I hate to tell you this, but we have already done things." he whispered into her ear. His voice had a seductive tone to it, but there was also an underlying tone of joking in it. "When do you wish to go?" he asked.
"Today. Maybe stay the night. Stay in my old bed for a night." Kagome said tentatively.
"You haven't said 'home', and you said your 'old bed'. Why?" Sesshomaru asked, getting serious and settled his hands on her hips.
Kagome looked a little startled. "I didn't even realize i did that." she said and then thought for a minute. "It's not my home any more and it's not my bed any more. Where you are is my home. I don't need a bed." Kagome said, turning her head to see his reaction.
"Good." Sesshomaru said, bending his head down and kissing her gently on the lips. When he released her lips, he just stared at her chocolate eyes for a minute. "I like that. That's how a mate should act." Sesshomaru told her. "We can leave after breakfast. I promise I will behave while we are there." he said, complete honesty shining in his eyes.
Kagome turned around and straddled Sesshomaru's lap. "Thank you." she said, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in for another kiss.
Right before their lips touched, the door to the study opened and they both heard Rin and Shippo calling for them. "Okaa-san, there you are. She's over here with Sesshomaru-sama." Shippo called to Rin. By the time they came completely into veiw, Kagome had turned back around and had readjusted the top of her kimono. "What were you two doing, okaa-san?" Shippo asked.
"We were talking. What are you two doing here?" Kagome asked.
"We were looking for you. You left last night and we couldn't find you. Then the servants made us go to bed. And now it's almost time for breakfast." Rin told her parental figures.
Kagome smiled at them and motioned them closer. "Come sit in my lap." she told them.
"But you are already sitting in Sesshomaru-sama's lap." Rin said, looking to Sesshomaru to see if it was okay. He nodded and she hurriedly jumped into Kagome's lap. Shippo scurried over and jumped up on her shoulder the opposite side that Sesshomaru was looking over.
Kagome wrapped her arms around Rin and Sesshomaru hugged them both close to him. Shippo then moved down and sat on Rin's shoulder and was surprised when Sesshomaru settled a hand on his shoudler, but smiled and relaxed after a minute.
Kagome told the children of her plans to return to her time for the night, and that Sesshomaru would come with her. At first, they wanted to go with them, but Kagome talked them out of it. After that, the children asked questions and Kagome answered them until a servant informed them that breakfast was ready.
They all stood up and went to the dining hall, where Miroku, Sango, Raven and Rosuto were waiting for them. All through breakfast, Rin and Shippo kept asking Kagome to bring them back some presents from her 'old home', as it was called around Raven.
Sesshomaru knew that there was no malice behind her attack of him, but he still didn't completely trust the youkai woman. He would have to talk to Rosuto, she had already talked to her.
After breakfast, Kagome went to get her bag and then her and Sesshomaru headed off towards the well, leaving Rosuto and Sango to watch Rin and Shippo. When they reached the well, Sesshomaru picked Kagome up bridal style and jumped into the well. They both felt the warmth of the magic surround them and when Sesshomaru hit bottom, he looked up and saw a roof.
He once again thought about how only humans would put up a building for a well. He discarded the thought quickly and jumped out of the well into the musty wellhouse. In another jump he was at the top of the stairs and Kagome opened the sliding door to the outside world. Sesshomaru stepped out into the bright sunlight and set Kagome down and closed the shrine door.
Kagome led the way up to the house and entered through the back door. She called out for her mother, who answered from the kitchen, and went to see her with Sesshomaru following behind her, his mask of cold indifference in place.
Kagome dropped her bag and ran to give her mother a hug. Her mother took a step back to take a look at her daughter and smiled. Then she noticed Sesshomaru standing behind her little girl.
"Oh, I see you brought your friend along again. What happened to Inuyasha?" she asked, oblivious to any of what had transpired, but she did see them both stiffen and straighten at the mention of the hanyou.
"Uh, I don't know where he is. He did something that I don't want to talk about, and we parted ways. I've been staying with Sesshomaru since then. And there's other stuff we need to talk about." Kagome said, not looking her mother in the eye, feeling a little worried about how her mother would react to the news she had to tell her.
Her mother noticed how Sesshomaru stiffened even more when Kagome got worried. She also saw the flash of protectiveness in his eyes and Kagome's mother quickly put the pieces together in her mind and smiled a little.
"Mama, where's Grandpa? I need to talk to you two." Kagome said.
"He will be in for lunch. Can it wait until then? I'm preparing it now, so it should be done before too long." her mother inquired. "Sota is at a friends house, so you don't have to worry about him." she said, going back to her cooking momentarily.
Kagome nodded. "It can wait until then. I can go pack some things before lunch. What are we having?" Kagome asked as she headed back towards where she had left her bag.
"We're having oden. I had a feeling that you would be here for lunch and just had to make it. Now, I'm glad I did." her mother said, turning back to the two young adults, smiling.
Kagome once again ran to her mother and gave her a bear hug. "You're the best." she said. Kagome released her mother and bow out of respect for her. "I'll be up in my room, packing. Please let me know when lunch is." Kagome said in a very respectful tone. She then turned back to her discarded pack only to find it in Sesshomaru's hand.
Kagome went over to Sesshomaru and tried to take her bag from him, but he shook his head no. She sighed and headed up the stairs, Sesshomaru right behind her. She was actually kind of glad that she had changed back into some of her modern clothes, she didn't want her mother to get overly excited about the fine silk kimono's she had been wearing.
Kagome went up to her room, stopping to put her dirty clothes the hamper. She had Sesshomaru set her bag on the floor as she sat down. Then she went through the remaining contents of the bag, sorting out things that she would take back with her and things she would leave in the future.
About a half hour after she had gotten home, her grandfather came into her room and told her that lunch was ready. He didn't say anything about Sesshomaru being there, but Kagome could see that he wasn't exactly excited to have the demon lord in his home.
Kagome and Sesshomaru followed the older man down the stairs, into the dining room. When Kagome walked into the room, her mouth started to water from the smell of oden. They all sat down and ate in silence. After her mother had cleared the dishes and what little left over food there was away, she gave her daughter a look that said Kagome would be heard out.
Kagome looked down, still not sure how her family would react to her decsion. "I plan on staying in the past." Kagome said. She wanted to find out how they would react to that first, before she dumped the big one on them. Kagome finally looked at them. Her grandfather had a look that said he wanted to say something, but had probably been told by her mother to stay quiet. Her mother had a questioning look on her face.
"Why do you wish to stay in the past?" she asked, wanting to understand her daughter's motives.
"I want to stay for Rin and Shippo. I've sort of adopted them and they even call me okaa-san." Kagome said, a small smile appearing at the mention of her children.
"Shippo is the kitsune that lost his parents, right?" her mother asked, to which Kagome nodded. "Who is Rin, then?"
"She's a human girl that Sesshomaru saved and takes care of. Her parents were killed by bandits, then she lived alone until she met Sesshomaru." Kagome explained to them.
Her mother nodded. "That can't be the only reason you want to stay, is it?" she asked her daughter, having an idea, but wanting it confirmed.
Kagome looked down and blushed a little. "Sesshomaru asked me to be his mate and I said yes." Kagome said, still not looking up.
Her grandfather snorted. "I'm sure he said he loved you, too." he grandfather said with a bit of disdain coloring his voice. "He's a youkai, he doesn't even know what love is."
Sesshomaru stood up, mad at the human's ignorance. "Do not presume to speak of what you know nothing of." he said, his anger showing in his voice. Kagome got worried and placed a hand on his forearm, trying to calm him. Sesshomaru looked at her distressed face and sat back down, placing his other hand upon her hand, then linking fingers with her.
Kagome's mother and grandfather just sat and watched them, amazed that the girl could calm the youkai with just a look and touch. Kagome's mother knew then that her daughter would be safe with the youkai lord in the past.
"How often will you visit?" her mother asked.
"I'm not certain. I'll visit as often as I can." Kagome reassured her.
Her mother nodded and then smiled. "Why don't we go shopping?" she asked her daughter. "If the boys here can get along with one another while we are gone." she said, giving Sesshomaru and grandfather knowing looks.
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru. "I'm sure they will be just fine together." she said, a warning in her voice if he didn't comply. Kagome stood up and went to get changed as well as did her mother.
Grandfather looked at Sesshomaru. "We might as well move into the living room and comfortable. I don't suppose Kagome taught you about the TV the last time you were?" he asked standing up from the table and moving towards another room. Sesshomaru shook his head, following after the older human.
Kagome and her mother returned from changing and found the boys in the living room, grandfather showing Sesshomaru about the TV. "We're leaving now. We shouldn't be gone for too long." they called as they went out the door.
Kagome and her mother were gone for a few hours, back in time to make dinner. Sesshomaru and Kagome's grandfather talked about many things while they were gone. After dinner, Kagome and Sesshomaru watched some TV with her grandfather, while her mother did the dishes and laundry. Kagome fell asleep leaning against Sesshomaru's shoulder, with his arm around her waist. After a while, Sesshomaru decided to take Kagome up to her room and put her in bed and crawled in with her.
When Kagome woke up in the morning, she felt safe and secure. She opened her eyes to see Sesshomaru lying next to her. She smiled and hugged him closer and felt the arms around her tighten as well.
"Morning." he said, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "What did you do while you were with your okaa-san?" he asked.
"We shopped and talked. I got you a present, but you have to wait until we get back home." Kagome said, smiling when she saw his eyes brighten when she called the past her home. Then she smirked. "Come on, we should get up." Kagome said, smacking his ass as she jumped out of her bed.
Sesshomaru stared at her, shocked for a minute, then jumped out of the bed and caught Kagome quickly. He had seen the smirk, so he expect something, but not that. Sesshomaru turned Kagome towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "No fair." he said against her neck.
"Oh, really?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his neck. She then reached up and took his ear lobe in her teeth.
Sesshomaru groaned. "We can't do this here." he said.
She nodded. "You're right." Kagome said, releasing his earlobe and stepping back.
There was a knock at her door and then Kagome's mother poked her head in. "Breakfast is ready." she said, then left, closing the door behind her.
That was when Kagome realized Sesshomaru didn't have his shirt on. "Put your shirt on and go down. I've got to get changed and then I'll be down." Kagome said, blushing at Sesshomaru's well muscled chest.
Sesshomaru nodded and put his shirt back on. He then left for the dining room to wait while Kagome got changed. She quickly got changed and went down to eat breakfast. After breakfast, Kagome went back up to her room so that she could finish packing.
After she had packed, she took her bag down stairs and set it by the back door. She then went into the living room where her family and mate were sitting, talking about raising children.
"You guys aren't talking about me, are you?" Kagome asked her mother and grandfather.
Her mother looked at her. "No. We are talking of raising children in general. You may benifit from it." she said.
Kagome blushed a little. "MOM." she whined. She sat down on the couch next to where Sesshomaru sat on the floor. "I've done a good job of raising Shippo so far. Besides, we don't want children of our own yet. There will be plenty of time later." Kagome said.
"So when are you going back?" her mother asked.
"Whenever. I'm all packed. I'd like to be back to the castle before dinner, though. I'm sure Shippo and Rin will be worried. Maybe next time I can bring them along. I'm sure they would love it." Kagome said, smiling, but Sesshomaru looked at her doubtfully.
"Why don't you stay for lunch, then. That way you won't leave with empty stomach's." Kagome's mother offered.
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru. "Do we have time?" she asked, hopefulness showing in her voice.
"Yes, we can stay." he said.
"Good, you can come help me make lunch." her mother said to Kagome, smiling and getting up, heading towards the kitchen.
Sesshomaru stood up. "I will join you." he said. Kagome and her mother looked at him weird. "You do not think I can cook?" he asked.
Kagome smiled and shook her head. "I guess it never occurred to me that you could, but I suppose you would have to know how." she said. "Come on."
Sesshomaru nodded and followed them into the kitchen. Sesshomaru wasn't sure what many of the items in the room were, but he still managed to help out and learn about the items.
Lunch was finished quickly and Sesshomaru and Kagome left for the past. When Sesshomaru jumped out of the well, he hit the ground running. Kagome just stayed curled up in his arms the entire time. They reached his castle about an hour before dinner was to be served, so Kagome went to get changed and play with Rin and Shippo for a while before dinner. Sango and Miroku sat out in the garden, talking to Kagome as she played.
After a while, a servant came to inform them that dinner was ready to be served. They all went inside and ate dinner in silence. After dinner, Kagome and Sango took Rin and Shippo for a bath. Miroku offered to help, but was stiffly refused by Kagome and a growl from Sesshomaru made him sit back down.
Kagome let Sango and the children go out first and stopped to talk to Sesshomaru breifly. "Come to my room later." she said and only stayed long enough to see him nod his consent.
Kagome met up with Sango in the hall and they continued on to the hot springs. Rin and Shippo kept asking Kagome about the future and what she brought for them. She told them about the future, but she wouldn't tell them what she brought them. She just kept telling them that they had to wait and it was a surprise.
After a while, they all got out and Sango and Kagome helped the children get ready for bed. Kagome asked Sango to take the children to their room while she got something from her room and she would meet them there.
When Kagome got back to Rin and Shippo's room, Sango was already getting them tucked into bed. Kagome smiled at them and handed them each a stuffed animal.
"This is a toy for kids. A lot of children sleep with them at night." Kagome explained as she handed the stuffed animals over. Sango smiled at her and left the room while Kagome tucked them into bed.
"Thank you, okaa-san." they said together. Kagome hummed until they fell asleep and then she quietly left the room.
Kagome stepped out into the hall and started towards her room. Suddenly, she was grabbed by a hand from the shadows in the hall. At first, she was startled, but then she felt a familiar presence coming from the same shadows.
"Sesshomaru," she asked, uncertainly.
"I thought you told me to meet you in your room?" he asked, stepping out of the shadows to ease Kagome's fears.
"I did. I was just tucking Rin and Shippo into bed and now I'm heading back to my room." Kagome told him.
"Good. I'll be there shortly. I wish to take a bath before I go to sleep tonight." Sesshomaru said, not losing his grip on her arm. They just stared at each other for a minute before Sesshomaru released her arm.
Kagome took a step away towards her room and smirked at him. "Who said anything about sleeping?" she asked before she walked towards her room, leaving a stunned Sesshomaru behind. Then, she stopped, turned back to the shocked demon lord, and put a hand to her chin like she was thinking. "But still go take your bath. I need a few minutes to get changed." Kagome told him before turning and walking into her room.

Sesshomaru told her, leaning forward a little more, pressing Kagome back more.
"What are you talking about?" she asked, confused by his response and his behavior.
"You're in heat." he told her, nuzzling into her neck.
"I'm what?" she squeeked.
"You're fertile and your body is sending off a scent that is driving me crazy. I could hardly resist you before, and when you went into heat, I didn't think I could. That's why I was avoiding you." Sesshomaru explained to her, trying to keep his thoughts straight, but her scent was starting to get to him.
Kagome looked at him, shocked at what he had said. She tried to say something, anything, but she couldn't. Her mind couldn't form a coherent sentance due to Sesshomaru's body pressing against hers.
"You should leave before I do something you aren't ready for." Sesshomaru warned her, stepping back from her a little so that she could get out.
Kagome didn't move from her place, only standing up a little straighter. "What if I am ready?" she asked him.
"Oh Kami-sama, don't tell me that. I would never be able to stop myself." Sesshomaru said and Kagome could see him physically stop himself from reaching out to touch her by clasping his hands behind his back. "If I do what my instincts and body are telling me to, you will get pregnant, and I don't want that yet." he told her, desperately trying to keep some distance between them.
"Why don't you want me to get pregnant? I thought you wanted pups with me?" Kagome asked, completely confused.
Sesshomaru growled at himself as he lost the battle and walked up to her and embrassed her. "I do want pups with you, but that can wait. I know that many human women die during childbirth. I don't want to lose you." Sesshomaru said, burying his head in the crook of her neck.
"What about what you told me before? What would happen when we mate." Kagome asked, timidly as she wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled into his arms.
"That will just make you live longer. You will still be wholey human. Pups can wait for a few years. I just want to be with you for now." Sesshomaru said, holding her body tight against his and rubbing her back.
"Now?" she asked and Sesshomaru nodded. "What about my scent? You said it drove you crazy." Kagome said, leaning her forehead on his shoulder.
"The scent of your heat isn't as strong. The intensity has been going down since you came in. I think I can control myself, just as long as you don't do anything to arouse me too much." Sesshomaru told her, setting himself on the floor, and then guided Kagome into his lap and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
Kagome leaned back into his chest as he leaned back into his desk. Sesshomaru bent his head down and rested his forehead on Kagome's shoulder and inhaled deeply through his mouth, tasting her scent as the air passed over his tongue. Kagome's breathing slowed and evened out, and Sesshomaru knew she was asleep. He relaxed and fell asleep himself shortly after.
When Sesshomaru woke up, Kagome was still peacefully asleep, her face turned into the crook of his neck, her hands on top of his. Then, he noticed where his hands were. One was resting high on her inner thigh, the other resting on her breast. He took a deep breath and found that her heat scent had passed, and gratefully nuzzled into her hair. Sesshomaru got an idea of how to wake Kagome up and put it into action.
Kagome slowly came back to reality, feeling a pleasant pressure on her chest. She gradually opened her eyes and looked down to her chest where the sensations were coming from. She was suddenly wide awake from the scene that she saw. Sesshomaru had leaned around her from behind, moved one side of her kimono out of his way, and was gently sucking on her right nipple and massaging her other nipple through the fabric with his free hand.
'Free hand,' she thought. 'Where's the other one?' Kagome looked down and saw his other hand resting on high on her inner thigh. "Oh God." Kagome said, but it ended in a moan as Sesshomaru increased his suckling and massaging motions. He also gently squeezed her thigh where his hand was resting and slid it up a little more. Kagome closed her eyes and leaned her head back, just enjoying the sensations.
Suddenly, everything stopped. "Morning." a voice said. Kagome opened her eyes and saw Sesshomaru with a wicked smile on his face that made her heart flutter. "Did you enjoy your wake up call?" he asked, the smile still in place.
"Did you have to do that to me?" Kagome asked, her breathing a little shallow from his minstrations. She then looked down, and saw that her kimono top was still open, and hurriedly closed it.
"Well, I don't think you would have liked the other the other idea that I had for your wake up." Sesshomaru said, making Kagome blush, just thinking of what he might have had in mind. "So, yes, I had to do that to you." Sesshomaru said, sitting back upright and leaning back against the desk behind him, and pulling Kagome back against his chest.
"Why did you do it. I thought there was a small problem." Kagome said, snuggling into his arms.
"No more problem." Sesshomaru said, moving his hands to massage her breasts again. "The problem went away." he whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine. He then nibbled on her ear lobe and eased one had into her top, rolling her nipple, causing her to moan.
"Before we do anything, I want to go see my mother and grandfather. I want them to know that I'm staying here and becoming your mate. They need to know. They deserve to know." Kagome said, arching her back to push her chest harder into his hand.
Sesshomaru took his cue and increased his massaging. "I hate to tell you this, but we have already done things." he whispered into her ear. His voice had a seductive tone to it, but there was also an underlying tone of joking in it. "When do you wish to go?" he asked.
"Today. Maybe stay the night. Stay in my old bed for a night." Kagome said tentatively.
"You haven't said 'home', and you said your 'old bed'. Why?" Sesshomaru asked, getting serious and settled his hands on her hips.
Kagome looked a little startled. "I didn't even realize i did that." she said and then thought for a minute. "It's not my home any more and it's not my bed any more. Where you are is my home. I don't need a bed." Kagome said, turning her head to see his reaction.
"Good." Sesshomaru said, bending his head down and kissing her gently on the lips. When he released her lips, he just stared at her chocolate eyes for a minute. "I like that. That's how a mate should act." Sesshomaru told her. "We can leave after breakfast. I promise I will behave while we are there." he said, complete honesty shining in his eyes.
Kagome turned around and straddled Sesshomaru's lap. "Thank you." she said, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in for another kiss.
Right before their lips touched, the door to the study opened and they both heard Rin and Shippo calling for them. "Okaa-san, there you are. She's over here with Sesshomaru-sama." Shippo called to Rin. By the time they came completely into veiw, Kagome had turned back around and had readjusted the top of her kimono. "What were you two doing, okaa-san?" Shippo asked.
"We were talking. What are you two doing here?" Kagome asked.
"We were looking for you. You left last night and we couldn't find you. Then the servants made us go to bed. And now it's almost time for breakfast." Rin told her parental figures.
Kagome smiled at them and motioned them closer. "Come sit in my lap." she told them.
"But you are already sitting in Sesshomaru-sama's lap." Rin said, looking to Sesshomaru to see if it was okay. He nodded and she hurriedly jumped into Kagome's lap. Shippo scurried over and jumped up on her shoulder the opposite side that Sesshomaru was looking over.
Kagome wrapped her arms around Rin and Sesshomaru hugged them both close to him. Shippo then moved down and sat on Rin's shoulder and was surprised when Sesshomaru settled a hand on his shoudler, but smiled and relaxed after a minute.
Kagome told the children of her plans to return to her time for the night, and that Sesshomaru would come with her. At first, they wanted to go with them, but Kagome talked them out of it. After that, the children asked questions and Kagome answered them until a servant informed them that breakfast was ready.
They all stood up and went to the dining hall, where Miroku, Sango, Raven and Rosuto were waiting for them. All through breakfast, Rin and Shippo kept asking Kagome to bring them back some presents from her 'old home', as it was called around Raven.
Sesshomaru knew that there was no malice behind her attack of him, but he still didn't completely trust the youkai woman. He would have to talk to Rosuto, she had already talked to her.
After breakfast, Kagome went to get her bag and then her and Sesshomaru headed off towards the well, leaving Rosuto and Sango to watch Rin and Shippo. When they reached the well, Sesshomaru picked Kagome up bridal style and jumped into the well. They both felt the warmth of the magic surround them and when Sesshomaru hit bottom, he looked up and saw a roof.
He once again thought about how only humans would put up a building for a well. He discarded the thought quickly and jumped out of the well into the musty wellhouse. In another jump he was at the top of the stairs and Kagome opened the sliding door to the outside world. Sesshomaru stepped out into the bright sunlight and set Kagome down and closed the shrine door.
Kagome led the way up to the house and entered through the back door. She called out for her mother, who answered from the kitchen, and went to see her with Sesshomaru following behind her, his mask of cold indifference in place.
Kagome dropped her bag and ran to give her mother a hug. Her mother took a step back to take a look at her daughter and smiled. Then she noticed Sesshomaru standing behind her little girl.
"Oh, I see you brought your friend along again. What happened to Inuyasha?" she asked, oblivious to any of what had transpired, but she did see them both stiffen and straighten at the mention of the hanyou.
"Uh, I don't know where he is. He did something that I don't want to talk about, and we parted ways. I've been staying with Sesshomaru since then. And there's other stuff we need to talk about." Kagome said, not looking her mother in the eye, feeling a little worried about how her mother would react to the news she had to tell her.
Her mother noticed how Sesshomaru stiffened even more when Kagome got worried. She also saw the flash of protectiveness in his eyes and Kagome's mother quickly put the pieces together in her mind and smiled a little.
"Mama, where's Grandpa? I need to talk to you two." Kagome said.
"He will be in for lunch. Can it wait until then? I'm preparing it now, so it should be done before too long." her mother inquired. "Sota is at a friends house, so you don't have to worry about him." she said, going back to her cooking momentarily.
Kagome nodded. "It can wait until then. I can go pack some things before lunch. What are we having?" Kagome asked as she headed back towards where she had left her bag.
"We're having oden. I had a feeling that you would be here for lunch and just had to make it. Now, I'm glad I did." her mother said, turning back to the two young adults, smiling.
Kagome once again ran to her mother and gave her a bear hug. "You're the best." she said. Kagome released her mother and bow out of respect for her. "I'll be up in my room, packing. Please let me know when lunch is." Kagome said in a very respectful tone. She then turned back to her discarded pack only to find it in Sesshomaru's hand.
Kagome went over to Sesshomaru and tried to take her bag from him, but he shook his head no. She sighed and headed up the stairs, Sesshomaru right behind her. She was actually kind of glad that she had changed back into some of her modern clothes, she didn't want her mother to get overly excited about the fine silk kimono's she had been wearing.
Kagome went up to her room, stopping to put her dirty clothes the hamper. She had Sesshomaru set her bag on the floor as she sat down. Then she went through the remaining contents of the bag, sorting out things that she would take back with her and things she would leave in the future.
About a half hour after she had gotten home, her grandfather came into her room and told her that lunch was ready. He didn't say anything about Sesshomaru being there, but Kagome could see that he wasn't exactly excited to have the demon lord in his home.
Kagome and Sesshomaru followed the older man down the stairs, into the dining room. When Kagome walked into the room, her mouth started to water from the smell of oden. They all sat down and ate in silence. After her mother had cleared the dishes and what little left over food there was away, she gave her daughter a look that said Kagome would be heard out.
Kagome looked down, still not sure how her family would react to her decsion. "I plan on staying in the past." Kagome said. She wanted to find out how they would react to that first, before she dumped the big one on them. Kagome finally looked at them. Her grandfather had a look that said he wanted to say something, but had probably been told by her mother to stay quiet. Her mother had a questioning look on her face.
"Why do you wish to stay in the past?" she asked, wanting to understand her daughter's motives.
"I want to stay for Rin and Shippo. I've sort of adopted them and they even call me okaa-san." Kagome said, a small smile appearing at the mention of her children.
"Shippo is the kitsune that lost his parents, right?" her mother asked, to which Kagome nodded. "Who is Rin, then?"
"She's a human girl that Sesshomaru saved and takes care of. Her parents were killed by bandits, then she lived alone until she met Sesshomaru." Kagome explained to them.
Her mother nodded. "That can't be the only reason you want to stay, is it?" she asked her daughter, having an idea, but wanting it confirmed.
Kagome looked down and blushed a little. "Sesshomaru asked me to be his mate and I said yes." Kagome said, still not looking up.
Her grandfather snorted. "I'm sure he said he loved you, too." he grandfather said with a bit of disdain coloring his voice. "He's a youkai, he doesn't even know what love is."
Sesshomaru stood up, mad at the human's ignorance. "Do not presume to speak of what you know nothing of." he said, his anger showing in his voice. Kagome got worried and placed a hand on his forearm, trying to calm him. Sesshomaru looked at her distressed face and sat back down, placing his other hand upon her hand, then linking fingers with her.
Kagome's mother and grandfather just sat and watched them, amazed that the girl could calm the youkai with just a look and touch. Kagome's mother knew then that her daughter would be safe with the youkai lord in the past.
"How often will you visit?" her mother asked.
"I'm not certain. I'll visit as often as I can." Kagome reassured her.
Her mother nodded and then smiled. "Why don't we go shopping?" she asked her daughter. "If the boys here can get along with one another while we are gone." she said, giving Sesshomaru and grandfather knowing looks.
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru. "I'm sure they will be just fine together." she said, a warning in her voice if he didn't comply. Kagome stood up and went to get changed as well as did her mother.
Grandfather looked at Sesshomaru. "We might as well move into the living room and comfortable. I don't suppose Kagome taught you about the TV the last time you were?" he asked standing up from the table and moving towards another room. Sesshomaru shook his head, following after the older human.
Kagome and her mother returned from changing and found the boys in the living room, grandfather showing Sesshomaru about the TV. "We're leaving now. We shouldn't be gone for too long." they called as they went out the door.
Kagome and her mother were gone for a few hours, back in time to make dinner. Sesshomaru and Kagome's grandfather talked about many things while they were gone. After dinner, Kagome and Sesshomaru watched some TV with her grandfather, while her mother did the dishes and laundry. Kagome fell asleep leaning against Sesshomaru's shoulder, with his arm around her waist. After a while, Sesshomaru decided to take Kagome up to her room and put her in bed and crawled in with her.
When Kagome woke up in the morning, she felt safe and secure. She opened her eyes to see Sesshomaru lying next to her. She smiled and hugged him closer and felt the arms around her tighten as well.
"Morning." he said, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "What did you do while you were with your okaa-san?" he asked.
"We shopped and talked. I got you a present, but you have to wait until we get back home." Kagome said, smiling when she saw his eyes brighten when she called the past her home. Then she smirked. "Come on, we should get up." Kagome said, smacking his ass as she jumped out of her bed.
Sesshomaru stared at her, shocked for a minute, then jumped out of the bed and caught Kagome quickly. He had seen the smirk, so he expect something, but not that. Sesshomaru turned Kagome towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "No fair." he said against her neck.
"Oh, really?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his neck. She then reached up and took his ear lobe in her teeth.
Sesshomaru groaned. "We can't do this here." he said.
She nodded. "You're right." Kagome said, releasing his earlobe and stepping back.
There was a knock at her door and then Kagome's mother poked her head in. "Breakfast is ready." she said, then left, closing the door behind her.
That was when Kagome realized Sesshomaru didn't have his shirt on. "Put your shirt on and go down. I've got to get changed and then I'll be down." Kagome said, blushing at Sesshomaru's well muscled chest.
Sesshomaru nodded and put his shirt back on. He then left for the dining room to wait while Kagome got changed. She quickly got changed and went down to eat breakfast. After breakfast, Kagome went back up to her room so that she could finish packing.
After she had packed, she took her bag down stairs and set it by the back door. She then went into the living room where her family and mate were sitting, talking about raising children.
"You guys aren't talking about me, are you?" Kagome asked her mother and grandfather.
Her mother looked at her. "No. We are talking of raising children in general. You may benifit from it." she said.
Kagome blushed a little. "MOM." she whined. She sat down on the couch next to where Sesshomaru sat on the floor. "I've done a good job of raising Shippo so far. Besides, we don't want children of our own yet. There will be plenty of time later." Kagome said.
"So when are you going back?" her mother asked.
"Whenever. I'm all packed. I'd like to be back to the castle before dinner, though. I'm sure Shippo and Rin will be worried. Maybe next time I can bring them along. I'm sure they would love it." Kagome said, smiling, but Sesshomaru looked at her doubtfully.
"Why don't you stay for lunch, then. That way you won't leave with empty stomach's." Kagome's mother offered.
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru. "Do we have time?" she asked, hopefulness showing in her voice.
"Yes, we can stay." he said.
"Good, you can come help me make lunch." her mother said to Kagome, smiling and getting up, heading towards the kitchen.
Sesshomaru stood up. "I will join you." he said. Kagome and her mother looked at him weird. "You do not think I can cook?" he asked.
Kagome smiled and shook her head. "I guess it never occurred to me that you could, but I suppose you would have to know how." she said. "Come on."
Sesshomaru nodded and followed them into the kitchen. Sesshomaru wasn't sure what many of the items in the room were, but he still managed to help out and learn about the items.
Lunch was finished quickly and Sesshomaru and Kagome left for the past. When Sesshomaru jumped out of the well, he hit the ground running. Kagome just stayed curled up in his arms the entire time. They reached his castle about an hour before dinner was to be served, so Kagome went to get changed and play with Rin and Shippo for a while before dinner. Sango and Miroku sat out in the garden, talking to Kagome as she played.
After a while, a servant came to inform them that dinner was ready to be served. They all went inside and ate dinner in silence. After dinner, Kagome and Sango took Rin and Shippo for a bath. Miroku offered to help, but was stiffly refused by Kagome and a growl from Sesshomaru made him sit back down.
Kagome let Sango and the children go out first and stopped to talk to Sesshomaru breifly. "Come to my room later." she said and only stayed long enough to see him nod his consent.
Kagome met up with Sango in the hall and they continued on to the hot springs. Rin and Shippo kept asking Kagome about the future and what she brought for them. She told them about the future, but she wouldn't tell them what she brought them. She just kept telling them that they had to wait and it was a surprise.
After a while, they all got out and Sango and Kagome helped the children get ready for bed. Kagome asked Sango to take the children to their room while she got something from her room and she would meet them there.
When Kagome got back to Rin and Shippo's room, Sango was already getting them tucked into bed. Kagome smiled at them and handed them each a stuffed animal.
"This is a toy for kids. A lot of children sleep with them at night." Kagome explained as she handed the stuffed animals over. Sango smiled at her and left the room while Kagome tucked them into bed.
"Thank you, okaa-san." they said together. Kagome hummed until they fell asleep and then she quietly left the room.
Kagome stepped out into the hall and started towards her room. Suddenly, she was grabbed by a hand from the shadows in the hall. At first, she was startled, but then she felt a familiar presence coming from the same shadows.
"Sesshomaru," she asked, uncertainly.
"I thought you told me to meet you in your room?" he asked, stepping out of the shadows to ease Kagome's fears.
"I did. I was just tucking Rin and Shippo into bed and now I'm heading back to my room." Kagome told him.
"Good. I'll be there shortly. I wish to take a bath before I go to sleep tonight." Sesshomaru said, not losing his grip on her arm. They just stared at each other for a minute before Sesshomaru released her arm.
Kagome took a step away towards her room and smirked at him. "Who said anything about sleeping?" she asked before she walked towards her room, leaving a stunned Sesshomaru behind. Then, she stopped, turned back to the shocked demon lord, and put a hand to her chin like she was thinking. "But still go take your bath. I need a few minutes to get changed." Kagome told him before turning and walking into her room.
Sesshomaru stood there for a few minutes, letting her words sink in. They wouldn't be sleeping that night! Sesshomaru quickly headed towards the hot springs to wash up. He stopped by his own room and grabbed a clean kimono to change into after his bath. He hurriedly washed and then quickly made his way to Kagome's room.
When he got there, he knocked lightly, to let Kagome know he was there, and when he heard the quiet 'come in', he slid open the shoji door and walked in, closing it behind him, not daring to look at her yet.
