Shazar walked through the halls of the Eastern Kingdom's best hospital angry. Actually, he was beyond just angry, he was furious. Ever since the attack on the Priestess' village, everything had gone to hell.
Kouga had been injured and bedridden for weeks. Several revolts had sprouted up against the royal family, now just Kouga. And if that wasn't enough, there was the knowledge that he had known this would happen
His thoughts led him back to after their victory against the south. After that, Shazar had pushed Kouga to attack the west before the Southern troops could be properly assimilated. Instead, he had listened to Naraku's rumour about his woman and sped off to get her.
As he approached Kouga's room, he was filled with conviction to tell Kouga what was the best course of action. They should attack the west and finish off their enemies once and for all. This would also serve to quell the rebels in their country with the show of force.
Turning into Kouga's room he prepared to give him his ideas, but was immediately faced with a problem. An empty bed, a shattered window and Kouga nowhere in sight.
The group had been moving with little rest for about a week. After the return of Miroku and Sango, Miroku had put on a funeral for the enemy. Inuyasha flat-out refused having anything to do with it from his place lying on his stomach. Kagome had uneasily agreed to help after she finished treating his raw back.
They had recently left the forested areas they had been navigating for a long time. Upon coming out they could see their destination over the horizon in the distance. “Geez, it's still so far away…” Kagome sighed.
“Yes, but when we get there it will not be far to our goal.” Miroku said from behind her. “So, Inuyasha what do you suggest we do?”
Inuyasha looked over the plains that stretched between them and the far-off village. “We stop here and continue tomorrow morning, early.” He said.
Miroku nodded. “I agree. Well then, let us set up camp for the night.” The others nodded and set about preparing the camp.
After a few minutes, Sango looked up from her work and looked around them, “Hey, has anyone seen Shippo?”
Said fox was at that moment a little distance away crouched in the trees. He was giggling to himself as he set about with his experiment.
He had seen what the man that had attacked them earlier could do with those explosives. His were so much more powerful and could even injure Inuyasha! So, after Miroku and Sango came back with the corpse he had left to search for some of the man's weapons.
He had found some and had been waiting for a proper time to slip away with everyone else occupied. The second he got far enough away, he tore open the explosive with his claws and began adding the insides into some of his own explosives.
`With this I will be the strongest one of our group! Inuyasha will never pick on me again!' He thought as he held up two completed explosives. He turned to his right and targeted a tree. If this one worked he would make more with some of the remaining materials.
He stuffed one of the two in his jacket, before lighting the other one with foxfire. He took a deep breath, pulled his arm back, and let it fly…
BOOM!!!!
“What the fuck?!” Inuyasha roared as the ground shook around them with the giant sound.
“What was that?” Sango asked as the tremor subsided. Miroku looked over in the direction of the noise.
“I do not know, but it came from over there.” He said pointing. Inuyasha was off like a shot with everyone else close behind.
They came upon a brand new clearing filled with smoke and fried trees. Inuyasha held his sleeve up to his nose to shield the smell of gunpowder out.
“What happened?” Kagome asked as she came up behind him.
“Seems like someone let off a big explosion… but whoever did it is an idiot. By the smell of it they used way too much—” He was interrupted by coughing a short ways from where he was standing.
His mouth dropped in disbelief as Shippo came walking towards them with a giant goofy grin on his face black as ash. He let out a small, “Whoops” before falling forwards and hitting the ground face first.
Shippo woke feeling much better. He felt warm and safe. That all changed when he took a small sniff to ascertain what was going on. Inuyasha was obviously less than happy with Shippo's experiment, the anger was radiating off him in waves.
Deciding it was better not to let him know he was awake just yet, Shippo kept his eyes closed. They flew open when he was yanked off the floor by his tail, “Nice try runt!” Inuyasha growled at the dangling kit, “What the hell where you thinking?”
“I-I-I-I was just…” He stuttered over himself in an attempt to get out of trouble.
“You got that crap from the human Sango wasted, didn't you?” Shippo nodded slowly. “And you thought you could use it yourself.” He gulped and nodded his head again. “Well then you're an idiot!”
He tossed the kit to Kagome who was standing nearby, “You take the stupid brat before I do something I regret!” He snarled and leapt off into the trees deciding to use his tension to hunt.
Shippo, now close to tears, buried himself in Kagome's chest. Never had he seen the half-demon so angry. “Calm down Shippo, it's alright, he was just worried.” Kagome soothed the shaking bull of fur.
“That's right Shippo.” Sango joined in. “He does that because he's worried about what could've happened.”
Shippo began to calm down before gasping realizing something. He rummaged around in his jacket looking for the other explosive. “Where did it go?” He moaned knowing what Inuyasha would say if he lost it.
“Inuyasha took it Shippo.” Kagome said noticing his distress. Shippo sighed in relief. “But you're still in trouble, what were you thinking?”
“I was…I was…” He looked up at Kagome's scolding face and all excuses left him. So, he tried the truth. “I wanted to help you guys sometimes and I wanted to get stronger.” He admitted softly.
Kagome's face softened. “Oh Shippo…” She said and cuddled him harder. “I know you would love to help us but this wouldn't help. In fact, one of those would hurt us more than it hurt an enemy.”
Shippo nodded and sniffed. “Ok… I won't do it again, I promise!” He said smiling at her. `Yikes, good thing I didn't test the other one… That one had even more in it.' He thought quietly to himself.
Inuyasha leapt through the trees, muttering to himself darkly. Once he got far enough away he took out Shippo's explosive and sniffed it. “The moron put even more in this one?” He asked himself.
“What one?”
Inuyasha jumped and almost fell right out of the tree. “Shit!” He leapt backwards drawing his sword.
“Lord Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha sighed angrily as recognition set in and he slapped his cheek, interrupting his visitor's snack. “Myouga…” He muttered annoyed. “What have I told you about doing that?”
He pulled his hand away from his face and staring at the flea demon in his hand. “Urgh… My deepest apologies, my lord.”
Inuyasha shook his head. “Yeah right, spare me. Now what do you want? I've already told you I'm not going back so if you're trying to sell that again I'll—”
Myouga shook his head, “That is not why I have come, I bear grave news. You enemy with the black sword fast approaches.”
“WHAT?!” Inuyasha roared.
Myouga nearly fell over from the force of Inuyasha's reaction. “I am sorry Lord Inuyasha, but it seems he snuck out of his kingdom to chase you down.”
“How far away is he?” Inuyasha questioned. Myouga shook his head.
“He was found missing by our insurgents about a week ago… but he could have left as much as two weeks ago.” Myouga said darkly.
“Damn it all to hell, how long will it take for him to catch up?” Inuyasha asked.
“I do not know my lord… my guess is he would probably take a week to find you. He would've heard where you were going from his spies and is probably moving at full speed to catch you.”
Inuyasha growled. “Damn it… We have no choice…” He said closing his palm into a fist. “We'll have to pass through the town within a day and go through the tunnel. If we're not fast he'll catch us…”
He turned and threw his hand out sending the small demon flying. “Thanks Myouga.” He muttered as the demon careened away and he sped off back to camp.
The demon hit the tree and held on to it recovering from the crushing force of his lord's fist. “Godspeed Lord Inuyasha” He coughed out before turning and leaving.
