“Inuyasha…”

The silver haired boy instantly tensed at the sound of the girl on the ground below him. The blood red fabric of his haori rustled as he shifted his body to face her, brow twitching slightly and adorable ears flattened against his head in growing apprehension of the inevitable doom that was fast approaching. His mind was racing to come up with some sort of lifeline, some sort of salvation….
“Feh, What is it this time Wench?!” -Damn, Wait! I don't think that came out right…- “Kagome Wait!” He squeaked.

“INUYASHA! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! AND HEY JUST TO SHAKE THINGS UP A BIT, SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!” the raven haired Miko spat out each command and let each word be punctuated by a thump in the ground as the offender was driven ever deeper into the unfortunate soil. Once her rage ebbed, the fed up teenager folded her arms and trumped over to the near by campfire where a woman clutching humongous boomerang was trying to control the threatening giggle fit. “Kagome, maybe you should try and relax for a while, ne?”

Kagome Higurashi sighed as she sat down beside her friend, “Hai Sango. If only Inuyasha would learn some manners,” she sighed. Her gaze wandered to the fairly large hole that said hanyou had just managed to drag himself out of. - Ouch, maybe I did overdue it just a little- She looked on with mild curiosity as Inuyasha sauntered over to were a little red headed kitsune was laughing his head off and happily scribbling on the sketchpad she had brought for him. Curiosity then gave way to anger as Inuyasha brought a closed fist mercilessly down on the unsuspecting child`s head. -Scratch that thought-Within an instant Kagome was on her feet and holding out her hands as the petrified child sought refuge in his surrogate mother's arms.

“Okaa san”, he wailed, “Inuyasha is being a Baka again!”

A smirking Hanyou leaned up against the nearest tree and let his lips settle themselves in a devilish smirk that revealed one glinting dog like fang, “Hn. And what exactly is a little runt like you going to do about it? After all…”He stopped cold when he caught the daggers in Kagome's eyes. She continued to glare at him until she was sure he was done, shut her eyes, and with a very deep breath let her wrath fly.

“INUYASHA! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, LEAVE SHIPPO ALONE! KAMI INUYASHA, HE IS JUST A CHILD! YOU ARE SUCH AN ASS! SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

A purple clad monk emerged from the surrounding foliage with a pile of firewood in his hands. He set his load down next to the fire and seated himself in the spot that Kagome had occupied. Glancing from the steadily sinking form of the inu hanyou to the raging Miko and the smug kitsune, he turned to his companion and calmly stated “I'm assuming that he called Lady Kagome a wench again?” Sango finally removed her hand from her mouth and let the laughter pour from her mouth as the sounds twirled with sparks and floated into the starry sky. Letting herself laugh so hard she wasn't aware of the bead-laden hand that was trekking towards her backside until it was too late…
“HIENTA!”
There was a bone-chilling smack as bone collided with scalp and a fresh Miroku shaped hole joined the roster of Inuyasha shaped holes that riddled Feudal Japan.
An odd looking creature that resembled something like a house cat blinked her wide red eyes before repositioning herself on the lap of her mistress and mewing softly. She was undisturbed by the thundering racket of her human and nonhuman guardians.
-Any less noise and this one would think that someone was ill…-

The crystal starlight bathed the horizon in a pale unearthly hue and the knee high grass weaved and bobbed in sync with the summer breeze that journeyed through every few minutes or so. Each puff of wind brought a new multitude of scents that were investigated by the still half demon. He had slipped into a peaceful sort of trance as each smell weaved in and out of his nose. Slipping contentedly into relaxation Inuyasha felt his eyes slowly close in suit with the atmosphere.

A snap nearby brought him crashing down into the world of the living; a clawed hand flew to the hilt of his sword, ready for action.

“Hey, Inuyasha. Don't be so jumpy, it's just me.”

The grip on his sword loosened and went slack as Kagome awkwardly jumped up to the rocky perch her friend had slunk into. She let out a small “eep” as she lost her footing and began to tip backward. Body tensed as she prepared for impact, though it never came. She opened one eye cautiously and found herself swimming in two pairs of deep golden eyes riddled with worry. Once he was aware that they were staring at each other, Inuyasha felt his cheeks grow warm and set her down securely next to him. He looked over and was instantly glad that he'd managed to catch her because her face was almost as red as his kimono. Though he would never manage to say it out loud, she looked hilariously adorable and innocent. He had to suppress the urge to burst out laughing at her expression when she realized he was staring at her again. Shaking his head he returned to gazing at the landscape in front of him, although he had the feeling it was a lousy trade off.

“Wow. This is different from your usual hangouts. ,”Kagome mused as she looked around. They were seated on a collection of flat-topped moss covered boulders that stretched up and out to give the scenery. Well at least what was left of it? On one side there was a sea of grass, flowers, and hills that gave off a calming feeling as another breeze wandered by. It was beautiful. Unfortunately, on the other side was the charred black ground of a former village. Everything was burnt, and dead, and… lonely. Kagome frowned as she remembered that this was the place that Sango had called home. “Or at least it was until Naraku got involved. ”, she thought bitterly.
Her head snapped up when she heard a growl at the mention of the hated name. “Oops. Did I say that out loud?” The hanyou folded his arms across his chest and nodded slightly. Kagome instantly felt guilty. - Whatever good mood he was in is ruined now- she thought, depressed. Then her face brightened up. “Hey dog boy,” Kagome tried to cover her giggle when one white ear twitched in annoyance, “C'mon cheer up! I remembered why I was looking for you, silly.” She rolled her eyes as he scoffed as though that was the most useless peace of information in either era. This did not bother the girl in the least as she peeled back the foil lid and released a river of steam under his nose. The odor spoke for itself. Inuyasha felt his body immediately snap to attention as Kagome handed him a still steaming cup of Ramen. She smiled triumphantly as he inhaled it, and then focused on the glowing sky above her.

“Hey Kagome?”
She turned and then had to grab his knee to keep from falling off as her body shook in tides of full out hysteria. He frowned, “Hey what's with you, girl?” He shook her shoulder and somehow she managed to point to her lip. He did the same. Then felt his eyes widen in horror as he removed what had to be the grossest looking Ramen noodle that had been hanging out his mouth. And his being almost drowned in the embarrassment. He wanted to crawl under this rock and never come out again. Inuyasha rose for a retreat when the shaking fingers of the still giggling stayed him human. “ Inuyasha… I'm sorry, you know… that I would never laugh at you but it … TOO FUNNY!” She gave him a slight squeeze that tinted his cheeks in the moonlight. He then felt a sudden urge of joy at the sight of the wheezing girl next to him. Her face was flushed in the wake of her laughter and the ebony waterfall of her hair stretched forward with the next gust of wind. Her chocolate eyes lit up with the comedy of the moment as the sea of laughter ebbed. He found himself wishing he could keep her like that. Always happy. -Happy for me, away from demons and shards, carefree like she must have been before she met me…. - He hadn't noticed that she had stopped until she reached out and smiled while rubbing away the last of the noodle from his lips with the edge of her thumb. He instinctively tensed and watched as her face darkened a bit, though she didn't pull away until she had traced the entire left side of his jaw. Inuyasha almost cried out when she lifted her hand away. He found his fingers feeling his mouth were the tender flesh still thrummed at the interaction. -She is always so gentle with me. But why am I feeling this way? It's not like I haven't been alone with her before… It must be the Ramen. Maybe I should lay off it for a while? -

-Why did he want to pull away from me? IT WAS JUST A Finger! Hah I bet it would be different if it were Kikyo. I wish he would relax just a little bit around me…. He hasn't been the same since Kaguya's Castle. I wish I could figure it out. - Kagome looked up absently while fiddling with the pink shards around her neck and found her favorite hanyou `s eyes murky with confusion. “Dammit Inu!” she muttered dragging him out of his daze. - What the hell?! Since when does Kagome curse? And when does she call me Inu-

“You should relax, ya know? ”Kagome considered how strange it would be for him to relax and it depressed her.
“Why should I?” He didn't take to the idea that Kagome was able to tell him what to do, sit or not. “ As soon as Sango gets her weapons fixed it's back to shard huntin. And ya better not have any a those lousy tests in your time, cuz I ain`t gonna wait around for ya and neither is Naraku.” He looked over and felt a pang of guilt when Kagome shook her head with shiny eyes. She shifted her weight to get a better look at the decaying village and was silent for a while. “Kagome… I didn't.” But he left the sentence unfinished, somehow loosing the apology in his throat. There was an eerie silience between them until she opened her mouth again.

“Hey Inuyasha? He turned towards her and was relieved that her face regained its normal contented look. “ You know, you really shouldn't worry about Naraku, not right now anyway. We haven't had a vacation in a long time. Enjoy it while you can and know that when it's time to kill his sorry ass then we'll be ready.” She winked at him with a soft smile on her face. “Besides…” He followed her gaze to the village and felt his skin tingle as she released a few light waves of her Miko energy from her body. Kagome softly closed her eyes and placed her hand over her hearty and let the flow become larger. Inuyasha watched with a bemused expression as the surrounding village sung as it was blanketed in the warm pink glow. He watched as her expression deepened in concentration and nearly fell over as the cracked dirt began sprouting new greenery. Bushes trees and flowers of all sorts began to cover the once dead land until - It's living again …No she healed it- Inuyasha felt a soft smile spread across his face as the last flower bloomed. His gaze returned to Kagome who was smiling at the victory though her face looked tired from the effort. She looked up at him “Besides we've already undone most of his evil.”

She fell back with a sigh and looked up to see he was smiling, slightly but the emotions that played in the golden eyes of her dear hanyou told something of a much magnitude. She let herself become drunk with the sight of his snow white hair billowing around his kimono as his mind tried to comprehend what she had done for him. She snapped back into the real world as he reached over the side of his perch and returned with a single violet colored flower. He let his eyes soften and his body runs on autopilot. He closed the distance between them and barely noticed Kagome's shocked look as he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and, with all the calmness he had, let his clawed fingers mingle in the silk like tresses as he pinned them back with the flower.

He drew back and was mildly shocked when he registered his own actions. Panicking, he struggled to find an explanation but stopped as he noticed her head had somehow found it's way into the crook of his neck. “Hey Kagome?”

“Hm?” came the sleepy reply
“Thanks.”
She giggled softly and he regarded how wonderful it felt as the sound vibrated through his chest. “Hai, Inuyasha, enjoy your vacation.”

The inu hanyou laughed softly as he leaned back and shut his eyes. Nestling deeper in the warmth that he was almost positive had nothing to do with Ramen.

The temperature had dropped considerably when Inuyasha sat up again. He felt slightly disoriented and shivered, “What the hell am I doing out here?” Looking up it was obvious that several ominous black clouds that even blocked out the moonlight had replaced the once clear sky. The wind had picked up considerably and his hair spun about so furiously he was having difficulty seeing anything. -Geez. It's a good thing Kagome isn't out in this weather. - His golden eyes widened in realization as he wheeled around. He was able to make out a quiver of arrows and a bow along with the annoyingly large yellow backpack that she was always complaining about, but no Miko. “Kagome!” Inuyasha tried to shout over the howling wind. He paused for an answer but the only sound that reached his acute ears was a clap of thunder in the distance. With each passing moment he felt the anxiety of his mind rise with pitering of his heart.
- This isn't right. Where would she go at a time like this? Stupid wench didn't even bring her arrows. She's walkin around with the Shikon shards in the middle of the night and she didn't even bring any weapons! She's just beggin to get attacked and who knows what'll happen then…Gah that's it! I'm going to find her! - With that resolved he sniffed the air tentively until his nose caught the out of place smell of Jasmine and water lilies. Smirking, he grabbed his missing companions arsenal and took of toward the nearest cluster of trees.
***************************************************************** *************

Inuyasha found himself rushing from treetop to treetop at a speed that would have probably rivaled that of Kouga. He cursed occasionally, as he would get whipped in the face by an occasional piece of air born debris. The weather had worsened into a full-blown thunderstorm and the rain was making it extremely difficult to keep a purchase on the branches. This fact alone made Inuyasha's steadily increasing speed one of the less intelligent options and the hanyou knew it. He just couldn't stop yet. Her sent had grown much stronger and he could also sense some sort of demonic aura closing in on her. Inuyasha knew that she was in no condition to fight, most of her energy still lost from her earlier performances. “Damn Kagome and her friggin magic tricks!” he shouted to no one in particular. Several other curses were voiced as he finally slipped off his current tree and sank headfirst to meet the ground faster then a lead balloon. After pulling himself up and a few more curses he continued running through the sticky mud. -Damn, that aura is getting closer! Kagome doesn't stand a chance if I don't get there first! -

As if his thoughts had summoned her, Inuyasha could finally see Kagome's silhouetted form as the last of the forest gave way to a clearing. He paused for a moment and allowed his heart to resume its normal rhythm in his chest. He noticed that she had not turned to face him, though his entrance had been loud enough to be heard by a deaf man. She simply continued forward with small steps, arms at her side and hair swaying with the curves of her body. From where he was, he could smell no blood on her, so she was not injured. “Hey Kagome!” he called her name and readied himself for the immense lecture she was about to give her. Whatever answer he expected from the girl never came, as she didn't even break her pace. Kagome continued moving forward with her back to him, oblivious to any attempts her friend made to catch her attention.

Now the hanyou was severely confused, not to mention annoyed. He made a leap into the still turbulent air and in one fluid movement was in front of her. Clawed hands grasped firmly over her shoulders, Inuyasha began to rant, “ HELLO IN THERE? Kagome what the hell did ya think ya were doing out here on your own? There's a weird feelin demon comin and ya coulda been hurt! Ya coulda been…” Inuyasha stopped when he saw the glazed over look in the Miko's eyes. They were dull and lifeless and it reminded him of the fist time they had met Kanna and her mirror. Inuyasha instantly worried that Naraku had managed to take her soul away. Yet somehow that seemed unlikely since there was no stench of him or any of his “children” nearby. Relieved at that he relished that Kagome was still trying to move forward though. Since he was in her way, all she managed to do was smash her body into his chest, unable to move any farther, yet still her feet shuffled uselessly in the mud beneath her. -What in the hell is she doing? Though I must say it isn't to bad holding her like this…Wait, What? I must stop hangin with Miroku! - Inuyasha was now a sufficient shade of red when he looked down and realized that Kagome had managed to escape and was now on the other end of the clearing.

Inuyasha swore once for being so careless and again when he realized exactly where they were. “What is she doing at Midoriko's Cave?” he asked the thunder as it boomed overhead. Another flash of lightning illuminated his companion's stiff figure as she vanished into the jagged formations that marked the entrance. Now he was getting really annoyed. With a huff he crossed his arms and made his way towards the cave…. Only to be thrown back a good three feet when he collided with a blueish colored barrier. He swore and unsheathed the Tetsiega though he seriously doubted that it would do much good against the powers of an ancient priestess. So, he settled for yelling instead.

“Listen up ya old hag!” -Alright, maybe that wasn't the best thing to say - “This has nothing to with the Shikon no Tama. It's about Kagome, so you better let me in or, or else! ”To be honest, he wasn't entirely sure what he could do to threaten Midoriko but he wasn't backing down now. He paused for a moment and just he was about to do a serious number on that barrier, Inuyasha was pulled inside before he had time to react.

“What am I doing here?”, Kagome wondered as she gazed up in awe where the crystallized form of Midoriko was doing battle with a giant Snake demon. She searched her mind any memory of leaving Inuyasha and upon finding none, she looked up. Laughing, she asked, “Do you happen to have any idea why I'm here, Milady?”

“You must save her….”

“NANI?!” Kagome shrieked. She heard her own screeching bounce around in the recesses of the cave.

“Please you must save her…”

“Midoriko…” she squeaked and fell backward on the stone floor with a smack. She was vaguely aware that there was a hand on her shoulder.

She looked up with a bewildered expression to see Inuyasha glancing down at her with a relieved expression. “Good, your back to normal.” , He sighed -Her eyes hold life again-

She latched her hands around his waist and started talking abnormally fast, “Oi, Inuyasha I woke up here and, and, I couldn't remember how I had gotten…”she was near sobbing now and could no longer keep her voice steady until she felt the pressure of his finger on her lips. She looked up at his darkened eyes in confusion.

“Kagome…” he whispered into her ear, “We need to get outta here now! There was something I sensed earlier and now I think it's here…”

Whatever he had to say never left his lips. At that moment, a huge crimson tidal wave of mist came crashing through the cave. It felt like a thousand tiny spiders crawling on her miko senses and it burned Kagome's skin like fire. She wanted to cry out but apparently she had lost the ability to breathe, to move, to think, or even to sense Inuyasha. It was as if all that existed now was she and this pain. She barely registered the slowing of her heart, or when it finally stopped. She knew what it felt like to die and she was ready to succumb to the bottomless void that threatened to consume her mind and flesh alike. Before her eyes closed she noticed a pink glow off in the distance that seemed to pull her towards it. -Interesting… This feeling reminds me of the well…. -

Save her. She is the key.
She is destruction
She is salvation
She is the beginning, She is the end. You must save her.

“Kagome! Kagome…C`mon wench! WAKE UP! ”

- Gah! 5 more minutes…wait…. Inuyasha just called me wench again, didn`t he? Why I ought to! -

Two caramel colored eyes snapped open. “Inuyasha sit!” Kagome was expecting the thunking sound of stupid boy against dirt. She just wasn't expecting him to land with his head smashing up against her chest. This turn of events caused both hanyou and miko to land in a very awkward position, with both as red as tomatoes.

Kagome let out a shriek of horror that made a painful twinge in his ears. When the spell wore off, Inuyasha sat bolt upright while rubbing his ears and shouting, “What the hell did ya do that for?!”

“Hn! Well you did call me wench, Baka! I'm so sorry that we were in such a tiny space.” she answered sarcastically.

“Feh! Whatever! It's always excuses with you humans, ain't it?”, he scoffed and folded his arms while glancing around. “Hey where da ya think we are anyway?”

Kagome looked up and noticed the familiar rectangle shape of the stone tower as it stretched upward. Her eyes widened and she tugged a damp red sleeve.

“Inuyasha”, she whispered, “We're in the well…” she then proceeded to climb up the rotten wooden ladder with him grumbling behind.

When she flung her legs over the top, Kagome realized she was right. Far in one corner was the God Tree that even held the mark where Kikyo had sealed Inuyasha. She could even see the thatched rooftops of Keade' s village in the distance. She was thoroughly confused, -How did we get here? - Kagome looked over at Inuyasha and saw he was asking the same question. She shrugged her shoulders and watched his confusion deepen. She was about to speak when she noticed someone watching them from the trees. Inuyasha saw it too and was about to unleash his sword when the figure leapt down. Landing right in front of them was a girl of about 6 in a white kimono. Before either had a chance to move she let out an ear splitting screech and flung herself with surprising accuracy at Inuyasha's unsuspecting form, all the while screaming, “DADDDDDDDY!”
