InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Centre ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Hey everyone! This is just an idea that kinda popped into my head one day, and it's been bugging me so I decided to see if I could make it into some kind of fic. “Fading” is still my main focus, but I needed a break (you all know how it is, right?) so this seemed like the perfect way to do that. I know this chappy's short but it's just a prologue so that's allowed right? Anyways, tell me what you all think, mmkay? R&R!
Oh, and one more thing:

Got it? ^_~
Summary: AU - Both Inuyasha and Kagome attend the Centre, a training academy for mikos and demons alike. Supposedly they're being taught to fight side by side - a miko and her demon counterpart - against an organisation that threatens the world as they know it. But with discovery comes realization, and a truth that will rock the foundations of all they've ever known…
The Centre
Prologue
The building was enormous, a massive architectural wonder of white stone and polished oak that sprawled over the pristine lawns in the surrounding area. Well-groomed hedges kept it out of sight from the road and a beautiful, wrought-iron gate was the only indication that the long strip of gravel was a driveway, not another street. The driveway wound around gently rolling hills and artistically placed gardens to a second iron gate built into one huge white wall. Beyond this gate was a grassy, open courtyard filled with what looked like the kind of training equipment you would see at a dojo. The building's walls surrounded the acres of grass on all sides, though hundreds of doors leading to different places could be seen from the courtyard.
All in all, the place looked more like a castle than anything else. In reality, it was what you might call a school - one with a policy of only accepting those of demon and miko blood.
Not much was known about this school - it didn't have a name, as far as anyone who lived there was concerned. Most simply called it the Centre, and then quickly changed the topic. It didn't teach much in way of math or science or any other normal subjects. Instead, the unusual few who were accepted learned to harness their abilities and use them to their best advantage, for the benefit of the whole world. You know, show the world what you're made of, fight the bad guys, become a hero… At least, that's what they were told.
Most of their time was spent learning how to fight in every possible situation, and brawls were even encouraged between classes. It was hard work, requiring both demons and mikos to push themselves to the limit day after day, but by that point in their lives they eagerly did so. Every single one of them had been told, at some time, that they were not normal, and could therefore not exist side-by-side with normal people. Some had it worse than others, but each had the same feeling of not belonging, an empty feeling that needed something to fill it up. Fighting was the only way to release so much frustrated energy, and the students at the Centre did so willingly.
And so, as each day went by, the young demons and mikos slipped a little more into the role that the Centre thrust upon them, and a little farther from who they truly were. It was a slow process, and one that had to be done gradually, so the students lived in the luxurious facilities that the strange academy had to offer and tried to ignore the way the empty feeling grew, instead of diminishing.
However, the truth never stays hidden for long, and there's nothing like a little identity crisis to give you a nudge in the right direction…

So there's the prologue - I was kind of struggling with how much to tell and how much to simply suggest at, but I really hope I did a good job of making you guys want to read the actual story. Reviews would be much appreciated, whether they have suggestions, praise, or CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Flames will be used to fulfill my secret pyromaniac fantasy of burning down my school ^_^; Hehehe….
