Chapter 5: For you:

Miroku and the villagers arrived at Kagome’s hut and were stunned. The brush behind the hut had been cleared and a pile of prepared wood was neatly stacked next to the tiny home.

“You guys ready to get your asses kicked?” they heard the voice say from the roof of the hut. Inuyasha jumped down in front of the men, looking rather tired as he had spent the night preparing the wood and brush to accommodate the two rooms he wanted added. With a smile the inu hanyou drew some plans on the ground with his claws.

“This is what I want.”

The villagers smiled and nodded their approval. They picked up their tools and started working.

Shippou bounded towards Inuyasha. Jumping up and down, and pulling on Inuyasha’s pant leg, he asked, “Oh please let me help, Inuyasha, please?”

Inuyasha picked the boy up by his tail and brought him to eye level.

“Oi, I’ve told you no, runt!” Inuyasha set the kit down facing away and gave him a slight push. Shippou stumbled but didn‘t fall, and looked back at the hanyou. He sadly looked down and began to walk away.

Miroku frowned and placed his hand on Inuyasha’s shoulder. “You know, for all intents and purposes, Kagome is Shippou’s mother.”

Inuyasha grimaced. Shit. I forgot about that. It’s not like he didn’t like the kitsune. In fact, while he saw himself as a bit of a father figure to the boy, he just didn’t want him slowing the process. I guess I’ll have to be nice to the twerp. He rolled his eye’s.

“Oi! Come back here, twerp,” he called to Shipoou, and the boy immediately ran back to Inuyasha. “You can help, but don’t get in the way and you must do what the men tell you to do.” The inu said pointing a finger at the fox.

“Thanks, Inuyasha! I won’t, and I will!” the kitsune yelled as ran over to the men.

“Good job, Inuyasha!” Miroku said with a laugh and a pat on the hanyou’s back.

Inuyasha turned and hit Miroku in the chest, causing the monk to fall over on his back. Miroku rubbed his offended chest and laughed out loud as a red faced Inuyasha stomped away.

By that evening the men had already finished the frame work and flooring for the new rooms. Inuyasha was quite pleased with the speed in witch the men worked. Thing’s were going better than planned. At this rate, the extra rooms would be done sooner than expected. Looking somewhat uncomfortable with the idea, Inuyasha thanked the men for what they had done. While Shippou got on his nerve’s a little during the day, he tried to ignore it the best he could. I don’t know how many times I had to tell him to quit asking questions, he thought as he ran to the Bone Eater’s well and jumped in.

Inuyasha was soon looking up at the ceiling of the well house in Kagome’s time. Leaving the well house, Inuyasha jumped into the branches of Goshinboku. Finding a place where he could watch over his mate unseen was hard, but he eventually found a branch that gave him a somewhat clear view into her room. He needed to make sure she didn’t arrive home too soon as he didn’t want to let his secret out.

Two weeks had passed and in that time Kagome had received her junior high school diploma and finished getting the supplies she needed to bring back with her. She walked into her room and closed the door. She leaned against the door and held up the diploma. Though here in the present it was frowned upon to not go ahead to senior high school, she and her family didn’t care. Kagome’s life was five hundred years in the past. And to their standards, she was already the most educated person any of them knew. And it’s not like furthering her education was totally out of the question. She could always go back to school if she ever felt the need.

Finally, No more worrying. Hunh? What’s that? Kagome thought as she looked at the pillow on her bed. On top of the lavender ruffles was a rolled up piece of old looking paper with a white magnolia flower perched on top of it. The miko walked over to the bed and picked up the flower and letter. Smelling the flower, she slowly opened the letter roll. Kagome was stunned at what she read.

Dear Kagome,

I know you may be surprised by this. Yes, I know how to read and write. My mother taught me. I’ve missed you more than you know. But I will be back before the sun sets to get you. Be ready to come home with me. You’ve had enough time here.

Love,

Inuyasha

Kagome smiled as she sniffed to flower again. Though to others, the short note would seem gruff, she knew better. Clutching the letter, the girl ran out the door to tell her mother she would be leaving.

Kagome was in her room packing all the things she needed to bring back with her. She was having a hard time cramming them all into her yellow backpack. A green duffle bag and a comically over stuffed box were prepared as well. Kagome stood and wiped her forehead as she finally got the backpack zipped up. Suddenly a pair of arms grabbed her from behind.

“Eekk!”

She turned around to see a grinning Inuyasha. “Are you ready to go, mean wench?”

“Inuyasha, you’ve gotta quit sneaking up on me, like that!” Kagome said as she put a hand to her chest to calm her rapidly beating heart.

Inuyasha ignored her outburst and looked behind Kagome to see the two bags and the bulging box. His eyes widened.

“Geezzze, Kagome, think you got enough stuff?”

Kagome smiled. “Well, I may not be back for a while, and I needed to make sure I was prepared.” She added a sultry tone to the word. Inuyasha, confused, looked at his mate.

“What do you mean prepared?” he asked in the same tone as she did.

“Well,” Kagome started, “I’m not sure what your thoughts are, or even what my thoughts are,” she lied, “on having, children so I thought, maybe we should take steps ‘til we know for sure.”

“What do you mean ‘steps?’” Inuyasha was getting really worried now.

“Well, let me show you.” The shy miko turned a million shades of red and turned to her backpack and in one of the pockets she pulled out a small plastic wrapped circular object, and handed it out to Inuyasha. “See?” she couldn’t look him in the eye as he grabbed it.

“What is this thing? It stinks.” he said as he sniffed it. She coyly leaned in to his ear and whispered what it was and what it was used for. Inuyasha’s eye’s popped wide open and he handed it back to Kagome. He waited as she put it back in the bag. He grabbed up the bags and box and began to head out the door. The inu hanyou stopped long enough to look over his shoulder and say, “We should go now.”

Inuyasha walked into the hall, thinking to himself, I knew it! I’m good enough to mate with, but not good enough to have pups with. Baka! I’ve fucked it all up now! He stopped at the top of the stairs, dropped the box and bags on the floor, and hung his head.

Kagome stopped a couple of feet behind him. Oh Kami! What’s the matter with him? she thought, sensing the sadness in her mate. Kagome’s eyes were wide and her hand was over her mouth.

“Kagome, I’m sorry.” He sounded as if he were thinking it was over. That he, in some way, was a disappointment to her.

“What’s wrong, Inuyasha?” All of her love and concern poured into those few words.

“You don’t want to have my pup’s, do you?” She could almost hear his heart breaking. Suddenly Inuyasha felt arms hugging him. Hands clenching the front of his haori from under his arms, and a head resting on his shoulder blade.

“Oh Inuyasha! I want to have as many of your babies as you will let me!” Kagome felt she was about to cry from happiness. “I just didn’t know if you wanted them. And if you did, how soon you wanted them. I was only being careful in case you didn’t want any. But I’m ready to have them now, if you want them.”

Inuyasha grabbed her wrists and pried her arms away from his body. He turned around and took her in his arms, and Kagome returned her arms around his body, now gripping the back of his haori. “You never stop amazing me. Giving up what you want if you thought it would make me happy. I want you to bare my pups.” I can’t believe I said that! I sound just like Miroku. “How could you think I wouldn’t be honored for you to carry the fruit of my seed?” Shit! Now I sound just like Sesshoumaru.

“I don’t know,” she said. “You just never seemed to like kids.”

Inuyasha couldn’t blame her. He always felt he had to keep up his ’I don’t care about you, you little twerp’ façade as a personal safety measure. But deep down the old dog always liked kids. Even Shippou.

“I’m sorry; I really do like them even if it doesn‘t look that way,” he said as he pulled away to lift Kagome’s chin with his finger to look into her eyes. “Besides, with our pups it will be different.” He leaned in to kiss her trembling lips.

As he pulled away Kagome looked up at him with happy tearful eyes. “I love you, Inuyasha.”

“I love you too,” he said softly, meaning every word with his entire heart and soul. He let her go and turned to pick up the bags and the box . Smiling, he said, “We should go now, koishii.” And began down the stairs.

“I wonder if my being a week late has anything to do with this?” Kagome thought as she followed behind him.

“Nah!! He would have told me if he knew anything. This just may be like the other time’s I had been a little late.”

Shippou paced back and forth a few feet away from the well. Sure it had only been a couple of hours science his surrogate father left to get his adoptive mother. But the hanyou said he would be back before dark, and dark was quickly approaching. The sky was turning orange and in about an hour it would be totally dark. Shippou wasn’t worried just anxious. He hasn’t seen his mother in three weeks and he missed her dearly. Any child would and he was no different.

Suddenly the kit felt a gust of wind and quickly turned towards the well with hopeful eyes. Then a green duffle bag flew out of the well and landed on the ground nearby. It was followed by the yellow backpack and a box.

“Inuyasha! Be careful, you might break something!” Shippou heard Kagome’s voice coming from the well.

“Oi. Mean wench! I can’t carry you and all that shit at the same time.”

“I have legs! I can climb out myself.”

“Just shut up!”

Shippou looked up and saw the hanyou jump out of the well with a sulking Kagome in his arms, bridal style. “KAGOME-OKAASAN!!!” He yelled and run up and jumped into her arms as Inuyasha set her on her feet. “I missed you so….” He paused and looked at her with a scrunched up nose and confusion in his eyes. Shippou turned up his nose to sniff better. “Kagome why do you smell…Eeeep!”

In the blink of an eye Inuyasha had Shippou by the tail and was nose to nose with the kit. “SHUT…YOUR…MOUTH!”

With a drop of sweat on his forehead, Shippou kicked his legs and flung his arms. “What did you do to her!? Why dose she smell like other women when… ahhhh!”

“If you keep talking, I’ll rip your tongue out and shove it up your ass!” Inuyasha threatened as he shook the kit.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome finally pulled out of her confused stupor.

Inuyasha glanced at Kagome, then glared back at the kit who had stopped struggling. He hollered back at Kagome without looking back at her,

“The kit needs to learn his place.” Between Kagome and Shippou, they had never heard Inuyasha sound so much like his brother before.

Suddenly Inuyasha’s face wiped itself clean of the anger, which only frightened Shippou more. Inuyasha sighed and sat the kit down to his feet. The hanyou closed his eyes for a moment and then looked at the frozen stiff kitsune. He smirked. “Shippou, It’s okay to ask questions sometimes. But if you keep quiet you will eventually find out what’s going on without pissing people off. Learn when to keep your mouth shut.”

Inuyasha leaned down and patted Shippou on the head, which only confused the miko and her charge more. He smiled and winked at the kit. The hanyou turned and walked to the bags and box, picked them up, and began to walk in the direction of the village with a smile on his face. Inuyasha called over his shoulder, “Come on, lets go home.”

Kagome still didn’t know what was going on but just shrugged thinking maybe Inuyasha was bonding with her “son”. She walked to and picked up the still stunned boy and hugged him. Shippou finally snapped out of it and smiled at Kagome. “Wait ‘til you see what Inuyasha did.”

“Shippou!!”

A/N: sorry this chapter isn’t as long but I refuse to make chapters ridiculously long and if I had continued with the rest of the scene it would have been too long. The rest will be in the next chapter. Please R&R. Thank you.

Thanx to Kira, my beta!!
