Chapter Seventeen: Why Does Courtship Have To Be So Hard?

 

 

 

“Inuyasha. I need to speak with you-privately.”

 

Sango gave Miroku a “I hope you aren't thinking anything perverted look” but still tended to what she was doing.

 

“I know something happened between you and Kagome. I need to know what and how. I've been thinking and getting advice about I can get Sango to let me court her and…”

“…Wha?! Ka-kagome and me? Why would you think I'm courting her and…and…why would I be courting HER? She slows us down and broke the Shikon Jewel and has ridiculous bathing habits, plus Koga is the one who wants her” Inuyasha spurted out with his panicked red face quickly turning into a pouting one.

 

“Anyway, what is taking that wench so long?” She needs to get back here so we can keep on looking for the shards!” With that said, Inuyasha lunged into the well.

 

`If anything' thought Miroku `I have helped their relationship but sill have done nothing for mine.'

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Hello Kagome dear. How is Inuyasha doing? Rather” Kagome's mom said, “how are you and Inuyasha doing?”

 

“How do you always know?” said Kagome with a surprised face.

 

“It's in your eyes. Also, it looks as if you two have been away from everyone awhile. Your school uniform has hardly anything left, you look like you could use a long hot bath, and your backpack still has many of its things left…except the candy, which I assume Shippo found.”

 

“Oh…yeah. Well, Inuyasha asked me on a date…kind of. He asked me to `go on one of those fruit things' when we got back to my time.” Kagome had to smile at this memory. “The only problem now is that he isn't here-I thought he would especially follow me back now. He knows that Hojo likes to ask me on dates and he is overprotective of me when Koga is around, so why isn't he here now?”

 

“Well, he knows you hate to be bothered when studying for tests and doing homework. He is being considerate of you Kagome.”

 

“Hmmm. I should have kissed him sooner…I would have had as much aggravtion and it would have been easier to get more homework done without always fighting with him over it.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

“How does Miroku know” grumbled Inuyasha.

 

“Well, either he'll be even more watchful when I'm with Kagome-which I'll tear his eyes out for-or he'll be concentrating on himself and Sango. Also, next time I see/feel Mygoa, I'll have to ask how humans court each other…”

 

Inuyasha open the shrine doors and was instantly tackled by Souta.

 

“So” said Souta slyly “you finally asked Kagome on a date? We will be real brothers soon!”

 

“Feh. I guess so squirt. Where's Kagome?”

 

“In her room, but…”

 

Inuyasha quickly jumped on top of Kagome's house, went to her window. She was looking through her books…with her back turned to him humming a song. This gave him a wicked idea.

 

Silently, he opened her window and snuck in. She was in that chair that turned. He grabbed it, swung it around so she faced him, then kissed her.

 

 

 

 

 

`What was I thinking when I decided to take chemistry? At least all of my friends' notes are hel-epppppp!”

 

She was spun around suddenly to find Inuyasha kissing her again. She closed her eyes, put her hands around his neck, and deepened the kiss even more.

 

She forgot all her worries as total bliss and contentment overtook her from it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

`Now that I think of it…I should just ask Sango…I mean, her parents aren't alive and my parents are alive, so there is really no one who would disagree to our joining, and since none of our parents are alive, they can't tell us who we are suppose to marry. Also, times should change. Why should we have to marry who our parents tell us, and why should we care about our status and money. We both are in the same status range anyway-we both are distinguished demon destroyers, we both travel all the time…'

 

Miroku sighed. Usually, one's parents would set up the wedding choosing which two families should be joined. This was based on status, money, land…whatever so long as it benefited the families. This was the tradition. Since none of their parents were alive, and since Sango was nothing like a traditional woman, maybe she would agree if he asked her.

 

Still, he was too nervous to ask her-sure, he was a hentai, but that didn't take any courage really. It was all harmless fun..also, he “inherited” the trait from his Grandfather and Father. Flirting and asking girls to bear his children was no problem…very easy, but asking the girl of his dreams, who he had been traveling with, who put up with him and his groping, who actually would slap him and correct him, to marry him…that was the most fear invoking thing he could think of. Even the thought of facing off against Naraku didn't seems as scary as asking Sango to be his wife, and if she would accept him and believe him when he promised to only grope and look at her for the rest of his life.

 

 

 

 

 

`Word is that Master Inuyasha is going to wed Kagome. Oh! Why didn't he talk to me of his plans first?! I must talk to him indeed! Also, he must know about Sesshomaru and Kikyou! I must inform him at once of these events and warn him.'

 

 

 

 

 

It was settled; Inuyasha and Kagome would go on the “date” during the weekend when she didn't have school, then they would go back to the Feudal Era the next day. Kagome had insisted on buying Inuyasha “suitable” clothes to go on the fruit thingy with, and to escape that disaster, Inuyasha had made some excuse about going back and telling Miroku and Sango that they would be gone a few more days longer. Also, he did want to ask Myogya about the whole courtship thing with humans…he himself knew nothing of this topic-he had been too young to understand or watch the human do it, and also, his mother had died before he had been old enough to learn anything. Living in the forest, he had learn how the animals handled courtship, but he didn't think that humans did it that way; have males do crazy dances, mate, then leave…nope. Don't think that was the way that humans did it. He wanted also to do it correctly; he wanted Kagome to stay with him forever…

 

Now if he could only fin…

 

Inuyasha felt a pinprick on his nose..telltale sign of Myoga. He slaped the flea demon, who slowly floated to the ground.

 

“Oi. Myogya. I need to speak with you. Courtship with humans…spill what you know…”

 

“Well, as far as I know, the parents set up the couples, they wed, and after that, they er…um…produce pups..in your case. Er…they also find a suitable village and build a house in it. Master Inuyasha, because of your...eh hmmm…hanyou status…I do believe that living in a village is not possible.”

 

“Is that it?”

 

“Um…yes, I do believe so Master Inuyasha, except for…”

 

Inuyasha flicked the flea demon off his shoulder and ran back towards the well. It was about time for his date with Kagome.

 

“Hmmm…Master Inuyasha still doesn't know. Why must he always go before I tell him everything? He doesn't also seemed bothered about not being to live in the village…the villagers would not accept him though-they would get jealous of the fact that demons, even hanyous, don't age as fast as human do…also, the villagers would not accept a hanyou…even if he did save and guard the village…humans are just not accepting and trusting enough. A pity.”

Smartjock: Sesshomaru…getting soft? This Kendra thinks not! Hmmm…well, he has been getting soft…after all, he brought Rin back from the dead, as well as protects her. He has rescued her from Naraku several times-he also has been looking after his brother; he knocked out his brother so Inuyasha would return into hanyou form again (when he turned demony) as well as pushed Inuyasha away from a blast when they were fighting Sounga in the third movie…so…I guess he is.
