Chapter 8: The First Lesson

Last Time:

As evening fell, they made camp near a hot spring and Kagome was almost immediately up for a bath. InuYasha moved to join her, but Sango, out of instinct, swatted him away. Kagome giggled and told InuYasha to stay at camp as she and Sango headed for the spring.

“Are we invited?” asked Shadow, an eyebrow perked slightly.

“Sure! The more the merrier!” giggled Kagome as the other two females rose to follow.

Minutes later, a sleeping Shippo didn't notice as the males snuck off one by one to spy on the women.

Now:

Each male was in a different location near the edge of the hot spring, watching as the girls talked and laughed with each other. Koga and Sesshomaru masked their scents as they hid in the branches of the trees. InuYasha had also taken to hiding in the dense bows of a tree; however, he did not know how to mask his scent. Miroku was stuck hiding the bushes near the water…easily within striking distance if one of the females decided to throw something at him.

Unbeknownst to any of them was the fact that, although Kagome didn't know how to use her advanced senses yet, Shadow and Death Strike did, and knew that they were there.

***************************************************************** *******

“So, Kags…how big is Inu? My bet is that Koga's is larger,” Death Strike smirked at her cousin as Kagome stared open mouthed in shock.

“I…he's….I'm betting you're wrong!” sputtered Kagome as she attempted to defend her mate's honor.

Shadow exchanged a glance with a blushing Sango before rolling her eyes.

“Well, then how big is he?” pressed Death Strike.

“I…uh…didn't measure…” Kagome muttered, slowly turning red.

“Don't tell me you didn't bother to look? Tell me that you at least gave him head!?” Death Strike was fighting hard not to laugh as her cousin turned a bright cherry red.

“Of course I looked! And yes, I gave him head…I just didn't have a measuring tape on me…it wasn't something I thought about needing!” Kagome swatted water at her cousin, embarrassed and angry at the questions being thrown her way.

“Well, approximately….Is he this big? This big? How about this?” asked Death Strike as she held her hands apart. She started with her palms about six inches apart and only increased the space between them as she want on.

“Uh…I don't know! Alright? But I bet he's bigger than Koga!”

Sango had long ago turned away from the scene, pretending she wasn't hearing them as she attempted to stop blushing. She concentrated on washing herself as she listened to Shadow's muffled snickers.

***************************************************************** *******

Koga and InuYasha listened dumbfounded to their mates' conversation. Neither could see Death Strike's hands from either vantage point and it was swiftly beginning to irritate them.

Miroku and Sesshomaru; however, could see the motions Death Strike was making and they too were laughing at the questions. Although neither really wanted to know how big their traveling companions' cocks were…it was still interesting to see the girls tease each other about it.

It was what Death Strike said next that knocked all three demons from their perches and made Miroku's jaw drop.

***************************************************************** *******

“Well I say that Koga is bigger!” Death Strike shot back, turning to her giggling sister, “Shadow, you judge!”

“HUH?!?” shrilled Kagome and Sango in unison as Shadow stopped laughing.

“I don't think the guys would agree to that. Even as hot headed as your mates are…” Shadow trailed off with a shrug.

“Why stop at just comparing Koga and InuYasha….why not add Sesshomaru and Miroku to the game?” said Sango very softly as she drew circles in the water with her fingers.

The other three turned to look at the demon slayer…each more than a little shocked at her suggestion.

“They'd never agree!” Kagome gasped.

“Says who?” came Koga's voice just before he stepped from between two bushes….completely nude.

Kagome and Sango gasped and turned away while simultaneously dropping in the water. Shadow perked a brow at them and shrugged…Death Strike simply beamed at her mate. With a growl, a very nude InuYasha made his way to Koga's side.

“Well, you wanted to compare…go ahead!” he snapped, trying to get Kagome to look at him.

Shadow chuckled again noticing that Kagome had turned around to see her mate, but still hid the majority of herself below the water.

*Shy are we?* Shadow asked her through the link.

*Uh…well…* sputtered Kagome.

*Modesty…ha!* Shadow snorted in reply.

“I can't tell if neither of you is aroused…” stated Shadow, hands on her hips as she looked them over. She forced herself to not smile…they were indeed very handsome and well endowed…

Koga and InuYasha glanced at each other, both blushing profusely.

Sighing, the twins rolled their eyes and got out of the spring. They grabbed the towels they'd hung on a low hanging branch and dried off. Wrapping themselves modestly, they walked back to camp.

“Another time guys. Let Kags and Sango finish washing in peace,” they called back over their shoulders.

***************************************************************** *******

After everyone returned to camp and had settled in for the night, Kagome turned to her cousins.

“Sing for us,” she said simply. When she'd been little her cousins had sung to her regularly. She'd missed them…and their sweet songs. For some reason their singing had always relaxed her…

Death Strike turned to her sister and shrugged. “Go ahead sis; I'll follow your lead.”

Shadow nodded to her sister as she watched their cousin cuddle into InuYasha's lap. Death Strike also snuggled up to her mate while Sango, not thinking, leaned her head against Miroku's shoulder. Kirara slept in her mistress' lap as Shippo curled up in Kagome's. Sesshomaru sat off slightly by himself; his back to a tree as he watched the group. Shadow smiled slightly as she searched her mind for an appropriate song. The others watched her expectantly for a few moments before she finally hummed a few bars and then lifted her soft, sweet voice to the sky….

“Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll look out,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
Isn't something missing?

You won't cry for my absence, I know
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that unimportant?
Am I so insignificant?
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?”

Death Strike leaned her head against Koga's shoulder as she closed her eyes and joined her sister in the song's chorus. Their voices blending harmoniously as one as they sang...

“Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?

Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
I know what you do to yourself,
I breathe deep and cry out:
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?

Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?

And if I bleed, I'll bleed,
Knowing you don't care.
And if I sleep just to dream of you
And wake without you there,
Isn't something missing?
Isn't something...”

Shadow's eyes closed as her sister's voice faded away...leaving her to finish the song.

“Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?”

Opening her eyes, her gaze locked with Sesshomaru's. Noting that everyone else was fast asleep, she held his eyes...unflinching...unblinking...until he finally looked away. She smiled smuggly and leaned back against the rock behind her. She stared at the stars until she too drifted off to sleep.

***************************************************************** *******

Morning came, but it wasn't Shadow that woke everyone up as the sun poked its head above the horizon.

“LORD SESSHOMARU!” a little girl's screech rent the still morning air, causing the party members to leap, wide eyed, to their feet...weapons at the ready.

Before he even realized what was happening, little Rin had leapt into Sesshomaru and wrapped her arms around his leg as she smiled up at him. Jaken came puffing through the trees, leading the two headed dragon, AhUn.

“Master Sesshomaru...I tried to get her to stay at the castle, but she refused to listen. Please forgive me!” cried Jaken as he groveled at his master's feet. The rest of the group relaxed...until Rin screamed.

“Ahhhhhhhh! Wolves!” she cried as she hid behind Sesshomaru, tears running down her dirty little cheeks. The sight moved Shadow...although she was confused as to why the little girl was afraid of wolves. “It's him! It's him!” whimpered Rin pitiously as she stared wide eyed at Koga.

Koga tried not to be nervous as Death Strike narrowed her eyes at her mate. The rest of the group had turned to stare at Koga by now as well. Sesshomaru drew tokijin and stepped towards the ookami youkai, but Shadow leapt forward to swat the blade from his hand before standing nose to nose with him. Her growl echoed in the stillness, but Sesshomaru was unfazed and growled right back at her.

Death Strike had stepped protectively in front of her mate as Sesshomaru had drawn his sword, but now she stood staring at her sister's back in shock.

“Would someone care to explain?” Kagome finally asked, but no one had a chance to answer as Rin tugged on Shadow's tail.

“Are you a bad wolf too? You're really pretty....” Rin blushed as she tugged gently on Shadow's tail again. Her growls ceased as she broke her eye contact with the Ice Prince and looked down at the little girl. Gently extracting her tail from the girl's grip, Shadow dropped to her knees and tilted her head to one side.

“No, I'm not a bad wolf...” replied Shadow, slightly confused, “I'm assuming you asked such a question because you've met one?”

Rin nodded and pointed again at Koga. Death Strike glanced at her mate and growled in displeasure. “What did you do?” she muttered and he simply shrugged.

“The bad demon let his wolf pack attack Rin. Lord Sesshomaru saved Rin...” stated Rin as she shot Sesshomaru a heart melting smile.

“I see,” said Shadow with a glare at Koga, “Well, he's sorry and I'll make sure his mate gives him a good thrashing for harming you. But he's a good demon now...just like me...you don't have to be afraid anymore. Besides...we wouldn't want Sesshomaru to harm my sister's mate..would we?”

Rin shook her head and leapt into her arms. “You're really nice....will you be my mother?”

Shadows ears went rigid as she hugged the child back. “Uh...” she glanced over her shoulder at Sesshomaru for some help, but he offered none and she narrowed her eyes at him. “How about I just be like your older sister for right now? We can talk about the mother thing another time, ok?”

Rin pulled back, a little downhearted at first, but then she brightened, “Ok! Rin has never had a sister. Will you play with me?” The hopeful look on the child's face made Shadow smile, reminding her immediately of her youngest sister.

“Later, right now I have to teach my cousin, her mate, and my sister's mate some things. Would you like to watch?” Shadow said softly.

“Yes, yes!” squealed Rin in excitement as Shadow got back to her feet.

“Well Kags, Inu, and Koga...seems we only have time for a short lesson this morning. Let's eat and then we'll get to it. After the lesson we can move on and look for that shard.” Shadow ushered Rin back to Sesshomaru's side before addressing the others.

Sesshomaru let Rin tug his hand as she wandered closer to the rest of the group. His eyes never left Shadow as she helped get breakfast made and served. He wasn't surprised that Rin had taken to her...but he was surprised by the confidence she inspired in the child. Her fear of Koga had almost completely disappeared after her chat with Shadow...and this intrigued him.

***************************************************************** ***

After everyone had eaten and the morning mess had been cleaned up, Shadow decided that they could hold the lesson right at the camp site.

“Alright, Inu and Kags first. Since neither of you have ever taken demon form, you have no idea what you are supposed to look like. What I would like you to do is: disrobe, sit down and, with your eyes closed, clear your mind. Attempt to seek your other self...it may take a while, but you should get an image of yourself in your animal form. Once you see it imagine yourself in that form....” Shadow trailed off, her eyes closing as she attempted to describe to them what it felt like to shift between froms. “It is a sweet pain as your bones twist and bend...reshaping your form. You can hear them crunch ever so softly against each other as your skin ripples and stretches to accomdate your new form...the tingling sensation as your pelt grows thick and full...the sweet ache as your fangs elongate...” Shadow trailed off, lacking words for what the rest felt like.

***************************************************************** *******

Kagome was the first to discover here other form. She smiled as she saw it...a cross between what looked like Saarlooswolfhond and a German Spitz. Without realizing, she transformed into her other self as she contemplated her form. She had the wolf hound's build with the shaggier coat of the German Spitz…although not the coloring. She was midnight black with bright pink accents. The tips of her ears and the very tip of her tail were pink…her front paws and lower legs where also pink…making it look like she was wearing boots. Eyes still closed, she tried to chuckle, but was surprised when it came out as a soft rolling purr. Her eyes popped open and she jumped to her….paws! She looked down, noting the sheer size of her paws. Glancing behind her, she caught a glimpse of her tail and she yelped, again glancing down…this time looking for her cousin.

***************************************************************** *******

InuYasha grunted as he tried to `find his other self' as Shadow put it. He was annoyed and just about to give up when he saw a glimmer of light in his mind's eye. He gasped as he beheld what he was supposed to become. The long elegant muzzle and narrower chest belied the dog heritage as he stared at what he could have swore was a pure white wolf. As he studied the image further, his outer form shifted its shape. His eyes closed, he held the image and noted the large paws and the not quite wolf-like tail. He was definitely a dog, but he had some wolf characteristics as well.

After hearing Kagome's yelp of surprise, he opened his eyes to behold her true form, his jaw dropping before he realized that he was also in his true form. Like Kagome, he jumped to his feet and looked down at his paws in wonderment. Looking up at Kagome, he gave her a wide toothy grin. His eyes danced across her form and he suddenly found himself aroused.

***************************************************************** *******

The group jumped back in shock as Kagome and InuYasha assumed true forms. Shadow smirked as she realized that they weren't even aware of the change. Sesshomaru and Koga where both extremely impressed by the two half demons...they noted that InuYasha was larger than Kagome, and even larger than Koga, but not as big as the taiyoukai. Kagome was only slightly smaller than InuYasha and at least the same size as Koga; which surprised everyone except the girl's cousins.

Shadow watched the two circle each other in true form, but when InuYasha growled low and semi-seductively...she darted forward. Swiftly assuming her own true form, she jumped between them. Hackles raised, she bared her fangs and growled softly at InuYasha. Sango and Miroku wondered what was happening...but those that could smell the arousal in the air knew...

*Not now, InuYasha!* Shadow told him softly, her fur laying back down as he backed away. *We have yet to finish this lesson...perhaps another time you can test your stamina in this form...but for now, you have an audiance.* The group could have sworn that they saw InuYasha blush through his fur, but no one mentioned it.

*Sorry....* InuYasha's appology rang gently through everyone's minds and Shadow looked down at her sister...who looked as surprised as she felt. InuYasha shouldn't have known how to mind link like that yet....

*Next step is fae forms....* stated Shadow to everyone. *Koga, if you would please take true form, you get to learn this next part.*

Koga shucked his clothing and took true form in a matter of moments. Casually, he sat back on his haunches...his tail wrapping immediately around his paws, as he waited for Shadow's next instructions.

*Good, now this part is very simple. Koga...InuYasha...you don't need to think about linking with your mate's mind to do this...the blood will simply react, so don't concentrate too hard. Now, all I want you three to do is visualize yourself smaller. Think of how small your cousin counterparts are and visualize yourself the same size.* Shadow gave them a nod, and all three closed their eyes to help them concentrate.

Shadow was the first to take the smaller animal size, followed almost immediately by the other three. Death Strike smiled as she watched her sister's `pupils' open their eyes slowly...only to have their mouths fall open in shock. She chuckled softly as she looked them over.

Shadow was completely black in her other form...except for the tiny patches of silver at the tips of her ears and the tip of her tail. She was larger than most cousin wolves...coming close to being as large as an average Noble Wolf, standing an easy 36” at the shoulder. In simple terms....she was HUGE! Her size and her eye color were the only indications that she was more than what she seemed.

InuYasha reminded Death Strike of a Samoyed….minus the curling tail, and she chuckled. He was so much more dog-like in his fae form that it was funny. His coat was thick and fluffy, making him look kind of like a puff ball, and his ears were perked forward. He was smaller than Shadow, but larger than an average Samoyed…standing close to the size of the average grey wolf at approximately 28” at the shoulder. With his golden eyes…InuYasha could easily pass as just another large dog if he so chose.

Kagome showed more of her wolf heritage in her fae form. Standing around 26” or 27” at her shoulders, she kept with the trend that the female is smaller than the male. Her pink accents completely disappeared in her smaller form...leaving only a jet black wolf to those who were not paying attention. Her bright pink eyes were the dead giveaway that she was not a normal wolf.

Finally, Death Strike looked to her mate and smiled. Although in his demon form he was mainly black...in his fae form he looked the part of a blue eyed, grey wolf. He was easily the same size as InuYasha in his current form, which she found odd. She shrugged and nodded once to Shadow.

Reverting back to her humanoid form, Shadow turned to the other three. “Now, the final part of this lesson...turning back. Koga, you already know how to do it. You change back from this form the same way you would shift back from your true form.”

Koga nodded once, and seconds later he stood on two legs again. Death Strike handed him his clothing as Shadow explained how to change back to the other two.

“Simply visualize youself as you are in human shape...” she began. As soon as it was past her lips a very naked Kagome and InuYasha stood before her. “Very good,” she complimented them, “That's all for right now. We should get a few hours of travel in before lunch...and you can practice again after that.”

They nodded and gathered up their clothing. As they redressed, the rest of the group swiftly picked up camp and got ready to move on. They would not travel as fast today...opting to walk rather than run or fly. InuYasha showed Kagome how to sprint like him and the two would occasionally bound off ahead and then come back so that Kagome could get the hang of it. Sango, Shadow, and Miroku walked together...Shippo deciding to ride on Shadow's shoulder today while Kirara walked beside Sango in her larger form.
Behind them was Death Strike and Koga, with Sesshomaru following last; Rin and Jaken riding AhUn beside him.

For some reason, Koga was rather uneasy, and Death Strike watched him curiously. She scented the wind and cast out with her mind, but could find no reason for her mate to be so...ill at ease. She sighed and wrapped her arm around his waist, causing him to smile and rub his cheek agaist her hair. The day was going wonderfully, thus far.....

Author's Note: I don't own the song “Missing.” It's by Evanescence; I'm just borrowing the lyrics. I am also borrowing the concept of “Noble” animals…I got this idea from the Wolf Series by Jane Lindskold...she refers to hers as “Royal” animals, but same idea. If you like fantasy reading…I recommend it. The first book is called Through Wolf's Eyes. I've included some links with this for those that have never seen a wolf…or if they would like to take a look at the dog breeds I mentioned earlier in referring to Kagome's other form. There is also a link if you want to check out the book I mentioned…it has synopsis you can read.

Review Responces:

SilverShadowKitsune: I'm glad you liked the lemons....and I think everyone is a little perverted deep down...thus the reason we like them. Fae is just another spelling for Fey....or the Fair Folk....or even the Faerie/Fairy Folk. I just twisted it for my personl use. I tried to explain in chapter 5, but if you need something clarified, I'd be happy to try.

Xiantaru89: I'm really glad you're enjoying the story. I'm noticing that almost everyone likes the idea of Kagome becoming hanyou...yet I don't see it happen all that often in fanfics. *Shrugs* Oh well...

InuYashasLoveLorn: Thanks for the review hun. Sorry you were so tired. *Big hugs* Hope you're less tired now.

Kawaichan: *Chuckles* I understand where you are coming from. I try to keep my spelling and grammatical errors to a minimum...I know I'm not perfect. I also try to proof read and make corrections a couple of days after I post any given chapter. But I'm so out of practice on my writing that I know I'm not catching all the grammar errors, lol. As for the bad guy...well Naraku is still the main villain, but considering I brought in two rather powerful characters for the good side, I'm also going to bring in a powerful villian to aide Naraku. Her name is Sindel, borrowed from Mortal Kombat because I think that character is absolutely awesome. The only similarities between the game Sindel and my character; however, is that they are very very very (enough veries?) evil. I will also tell you that Sindel and Shadow really don't get along. But that's all I'm giving away....for now.
