InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Closed Door Just Might Open ❯ meeting the brother ( Chapter 7 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
At the very end of the 6th chapter I was too lazy to exit out and so I fell asleep with the computer on. When I woke up at 2 in the morning to close out and maybe start this chapter, my wrist hurt like hell. Thank god I have a wrist guard. I always get hurt. So now I'm writing with a bum wrist. Don't worry. I'll still write this. I think I'm keeping it Kagome's and Inuyasha's PoV's. I'm about 80% sure. Still don't know though.
On with the story.
The Closed Door Just Might Open
Chapter 7: meeting the brother
We came home from another student council meeting. Nothing new here. They didn't give us any assignment this time. So we're just walking home. And then Kagome surprises me.
“You know, we never go to your house. We're always at mine. Could we go to yours for once.” Nerves wrack my body all over but I don't let it show. I don't have a good excuse for why she can't. Oh, shit.
“Sure. Yeah, ok,” I try to say calmly. We walk up to the front door. I stop her at the porch.
“Now you have to wait here.”
“Why?”
“Well, I'm supposed to tell my brother when I bring people over. He gets kinda mad if I don't. And I don't feel like getting beat up today so I'm just gonna tell him you're coming. So wait here,” I tell her and rush in before she can see Sesshomaru on the couch reading yet another book.
“Sesshomaru!”
“Hmm,” comes his disinterested reply. I grab his arm and shove him off the couch into the hall.
“What the hell?!” he asks sounding pissed. Who cares? He's always pissed at me.
“I need a big favor.”
“Whatever it is, no.”
“C'mon, I really need you to do this.”
“Oh, for you,” he says sounding so heartfelt, “no,” he says flatly. He starts to walk toward his room.
“It's not that big of a deal, could you just do it?” He turns back towards me with a disappointed look on his face.
“Do you even know the definition of `no.'”? My eyebrows furrow.
“Care to enlighten me?” he scoffs and heads back to his room.
“Please, Sess.” That stops him. He slowly turns back to me.
“Whoa…you said `please'. And you haven't called me Sess since you were in elementary school. This must be serious.”
“Would you just hear me out?”
“Fine.”
“Kagome's outside the door—” his face lights up and I know he's gonna interrupt.
“Let me finish. And she doesn't know I'm a half demon. Do you see where this is going?” He looks toward the ceiling while thinking.
“No.” I sigh.
“If she sees you, the way you are, she won't think we're brothers. Are you getting it?” He makes a face as he thinks.
“What is it you want me to do, Inuyasha?” I slap my hand to my forehead and let it run down my face.
“I thought all those books you read was supposed to make you smart.” He glares at me.
“I want you to be human,” he looks at me like I'm crazy, “ just until Kagome leaves.” He crosses his arms and looks at me strangely.
“You may not realize this, but…I'm a demon!”
“I realize that. Can't you hide it?”
“I don't have anything to hide it, unlike you.” I glare at him, and then I remember something.
“But I can change that,” I say while I rifle through my backpack. He's gonna be so pissed. He leans forward toward my bag, obviously interested in whatever I have to get. I quickly pull out a necklace and place it around his neck before he has a chance to react.
“What the hell did you do to me?” he asks threateningly low. I shrug my shoulders. Then he notices his bangs covering his eyes are inky black like mine. He reaches up to touch them and notices no markings on his hand. His eyes flit towards mine filled with rage.
He tries to take off the necklace I placed on him, but it resists.
“Why can't I get this off?”
“Because I'm the only one who can take that necklace off.” He stops trying to pull the necklace.
“Damn you! Take this off and change me back!” I shake my head, smiling at his misfortune.
“Change me back now!”
“Not until Kagome leaves.” He seems to calm down, somewhat. He lets out an irritated sigh.
“Fine,” he says, then heads over to the door to let Kagome in.
“Oh, Sesshomaru.”
“What?” he asks obviously annoyed.
“You have to be nice to her.” He rolls his eyes and turns around swiftly only to notice his hair turn with him. He grabs the end of his hair to find out it only goes to his collarbone.
“You made my hair short?” he furiously asks. I shrug my shoulders again.
“I had to. There had to be some difference between us.” His eyes narrow into slits.
“Don't worry. It'll go back to how you want it when I change you back.” He looks at his hair miserably, and then lets it fall as he looks at me.
“I hate you,” he says lowly and calmly.
“I love you, too, Sess.” I say coming up to pat him on the back. It's as if my pat offended him and he points his finger at me as if to watch myself. He heads back over to the couch and starts reading.
I open the door to find Kagome sitting on the front step of the porch, yet again listening to her iPod. I wonder what she listens to all the time. I sit down beside her and shake her shoulder.
“Hey,” I say. She seems startled and takes out her earphones.
“Hey, what took you so long? I've listened to six songs already.”
“C'mon. It wasn't that long.”
“Ok. Four. I thought he killed you actually.”
“No…it was just a long argument.” She nods as she looks ahead.
“So can we go in now?”
“Yeah, yeah. Let's go.” I say as I stand up and offer my hand to help her. She takes it and we head inside.
“Sesshomaru,” I call.
“Hmm,” he said, too absorbed in his book.
“Sorry. He's addicted to books,” I quietly tell Kagome.
“There's nothing wrong with being addicted to books. Some books are very good.” I see Sesshomaru's head shoot up in interest.
“Did one of your friends just say some books are very good?” asked Sesshomaru.
“Yeah, I did,” said Kagome. Sesshomaru's eyebrows disappear into his bangs.
“I think I like her,” says Sesshomaru before he gets up from the couch and shakes Kagome's hand.
“Sorry for not properly introducing myself. I'm Sesshomaru Tsunaka, his older half brother. Unfortunately.” He mumbled the last part but obviously Kagome heard it by the way she's quietly laughing. I glare at Sesshomaru while Kagome's back is to me.
Kagome turns back toward me to say, “Your brother doesn't seem as bad as you described him to be.” Sesshomaru looks toward me.
“So you've been saying bad things about me, Inuyasha?” Now they're both looking at me.
“No, never!” I say as if it's ridiculous to even ask. He sees right through me though. He walks past me to the kitchen, but on his way there he's able to punch me in the arm. Why does everyone hit me?
Sesshomaru comes back with a soda for Kagome and himself. Kagome thanks him as he sits back on the couch to read.
“What? None for me?” I ask sounding offended. I honestly don't care if he gets my drink. He could have poisoned mine for all I know.
He looks toward me in disbelief before saying, “Did you honestly want one from me?”
“No.”
“Then you shouldn't be complaining,” he said before turning back to his book.
“Sesshomaru, I have a guest here and you're just sitting there like you always do reading. Why is it you only read 24/7 anyway?”
“Well, I'm sorry I wasn't able to prepare games for your guest since you just let her come here unannounced,” he says, his voiced filled to the brim in sarcasm.
Then Kagome decided to speak up, “What is it that you do, Sesshomaru?”
“Could you specify that for me?”
“Like the job you do.” Sesshomaru was silent for a while, eyes never leaving his book.
“I'm…transitioning right now,” he said smoothly.
“Meaning, he's unemployed,” I translated.
Sesshomaru sent a glare my way before answering, “Is it my fault there were no bookstores available for hire?”
“Couldn't you just work at a place like Burger King?” I suggested, knowing he would turn it down.
“As if I would lower myself to such a place as that.”
“You know; if you hadn't dropped out of college you wouldn't be in this situation right now.” Kagome gasped, obviously shocked someone like Sesshomaru would actually drop out of college.
“You dropped out of college, Sesshomaru?” she questioned.
“Yeah, it was too much work for him,” I commented. I was too far away for him to hit me and he couldn't do much considering he had to be nice while Kagome was here. To bad I didn't account for Kagome on the no hitting.
“You shouldn't be so mean to your brother.”
“Yeah Inuyasha. You shouldn't be mean to your brother,” Sesshomaru declared. I look at Kagome incredulously.
“You have your own brother. You should know what this is like.”
She looked thoughtful before explaining logically, “Yes, but my brother is annoying. Yours, on the other hand, is nice.”
“What is it with you and thinking that thing is nice,” I asked gesturing to the thing that was currently staring at me.
“He is nice, you just can't see it. He's nicer than you at least.” Ouch. That hurt.
“Thank you for that compliment, Kagome.”
I'm becoming more irritated with Sesshomaru by the minute. Maybe having both Kagome and Sesshomaru around me was a bad idea.
“You, shut up,” I say pointing toward Sesshomaru, “Go back to your books.”
“Gladly,” came his reply as he lied back down on the couch to read.

Kagome got along with Sesshomaru so well; it was making me sick. I had to get out of there. Kagome and I went back to her house. There we found Rin and Souta playing poker on the couch.
“Hey, what took you so long?” asks Rin still focusing on the game.
“I met your boyfriend just now. He was very polite.” Polite. Are we sure we're talking about Sesshomaru.
“He's not polite,” I tell them both as if it's the most ridiculous thing.
“ Well, polite to me! You only say that because he's your brother,” Kagome said deciding to sit next to Rin on the couch.
“You didn't tell me what he looked like. I loved his black hair, it looked better than mine.” Rin gets a confused look on her face. Uh-oh.
“Black? But Sessh—”
“Hey Rin. Can I talk to you? Like in the kitchen?” I ask already heading over there.
“Sure Inu.” I resist the urge to shiver. Once we're in the kitchen, I start talking.
“You know I'm hiding the fact I'm a half demon, right?” She nods.
“Well, I haven't exactly told Kagome that yet. And I had to do something about Sesshomaru so it would look like we're brothers.”
“What did you do?” she asks like I'm a kid caught in the act.
“I changed him into a human while Kagome was there. No demon markings, human abilities, and short black hair.” Her eyes bugged out.
“Short? How could you make it short?”
“It wasn't that hard. All I had to do was put on this necklace and—”
“That's not what I meant. Short?! I live for his long silver hair and you made it short and black?” She's so emotional about this. I'm a little scared at the moment.
“Don't worry. It's only temporary.”
“Yeah, it better be. Sess must be pissed at you.”
“Yeah, tell me about it. Back to the original subject?”
“Sure.”
“Well, I was wondering if you could possibly, maybe go along with this.”
“Ok, but I'm not doing this forever. You're gonna have to tell her.”
“And I will.” She looks at me as if to find my lie.
“Ok,” she says doubtfully. She's about to walk away, but pauses.
“You did change him back, right?” she asks scared for me.
“I said I was going to as soon as I got back from here.”
“You mean he's still stuck like that? You're gonna have to hurry back and reverse it if you want to live,” she says then heads back to the couch.
I value my life so I tell everyone I had to get something done.
“Bye, Inuyasha,” they all say.
