Afternoon Delight...

"Relax, what's the worst that can happen?"

Kagome sighed and got out of the cab. She handed the driver the cab fare and turned to Sango. "You saw how mad he was. I think the worst case scenario is that he kills me." Kagome said. Sango rolled her eyes and wrapped an arm around her best friend's shoulder.

"Come on, Kagome. He's not that much of cold-hearted bastard." She joked. Kagome didn't think it was funny. Sesshomaru had been adamant about her not going to the mental institution and she'd defied him. She had to admit, despite her anger at having been told what to do, Sesshomaru was probably right.

She stepped inside the elevator and leaned her head against the back wall. Sango shrugged her shoulders. "I don't see what the big deal was. All we did was go in there. The damn receptionist didn't even speak English, so what harm did we do?"

Kagome didn't respond. All she could think about was the way Sesshomaru had looked at her, as if he actually could kill her. The elevator doors slid open and the two women stepped out. Sango could sense her friend's distress.

"Kagome, I'm sure he'll understand that you weren't trying to disobey him. He'll see that all you were really trying to do was help him." Sango told her, trying to comfort her. She stopped in front of their hotel room. "Are you going to talk to him?" She asked. Kagome hung her head. She really didn't want to face Sesshomaru, but she knew she had to explain herself.

Kagome nodded her head. Sango gave her a quick hug. "Don't worry, Kagome. If he does try anything, remember I'm right next door. I'm not afraid to kick his ass." Kagome smiled. "Thanks, Sango."

After Sango went into the room, Kagome took a deep breath and squared her shoulders. She didn't know why, but she got the feeling she was back in high school waiting for the principal to discipline her. 'If only that were the case.' She thought to herself.

Forcing herself to face the music, Kagome hesitantly knocked on the door. She waited and was greeted with silence. She sighed and knocked again, this time with much more force. After a few minutes, she heard Sesshomaru tersely reply, "Come in."

Kagome twisted the gold handle and opened the door. She closed the door softly and stood in the hall, waiting uncertainly. The hall opened up into a sizable living room, with the bedroom and bathroom off to the left of the living room. Sesshomaru was sitting in a chair facing the balcony. Kagome fidgeted nervously, not knowing what to do.

"What do you want?" Sesshomaru asked, his voice colder than ice. Kagome jumped at the sound of his voice. She took a few steps towards him then stopped.

"I-I just wanted to tell you why I was at the mental institution today." Kagome said softly. Sesshomaru remained motionless, not saying a word. Kagome decided to press on.

"I was only trying to hel--"

"You almost blew my cover." Sesshomaru interrupted, rising from his seat and turning to face her. "I told you to stay away for a reason, Kagome."

Kagome nodded her head vigorously. "I know, Sesshomaru, but the way you said it made me feel like a child, like I needed to be told what was good for me."

"Which, as witnessed by your little stunt today, isn't too far from the truth." Sesshomaru snapped. He saw Kagome's eyes widen and then narrow, her misty depths swirling with anger.

"You know, all I've ever tried to do is help you, but every chance you get you show how unappreciated it is!" She spat, her voice rising. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. "So prancing into the mental institution announcing that you're a reporter is what you call help?"

Kagome looked away from his accusing glare, knowing she'd made a mistake. "You and your entourage nearly blew everything." Sesshomaru continued. Kagome looked down at the floor. "It wasn't an entourage," Kagome said quietly. "I brought Sango for support and I asked the cab driver to follow us in in case we encountered a language barrier."

Sesshomaru felt some of his anger dissipate at the sight of Kagome's defeated pose. Deep down he knew that her only purpose had been to help him, but he couldn't just forgive her for jeopardizing their entire reason for being here.

He sighed. "Kagome, I don't mean to order you around, I just wish that you would trust my judgment." Kagome raised her gaze slowly to meet with Sesshomaru's. His golden eyes held her in a trance.

"I do...trust you." Kagome whispered, taking a step forward. Sesshomaru ached at the sound of her voice, so soft and vulnerable. It was a total contrast to the fiery spirit he knew was lurking just beneath the surface.

"The real question is," Kagome said, taking another step. "Why can't you trust me?"

Sesshomaru was caught off guard with Kagome's innocent little question. He looked away from her intense gaze, but couldn't escape her presence, which was slowly engulfing him. Kagome was now directly in front of him. She noticed that he'd looked away from her, avoiding her question. Kagome almost backed off, but something told her not to. She was tired of Sesshomaru pushing her away.

She placed her fingertips on his chin and gently forced him to meet her gaze. "Do you trust me?" She asked, her eyes questioning.

She was too close. Sesshomaru felt his mind begin to cloud with desire. He wanted her...badly.

"Kagome, why ask--"

Kagome gave a forceful shake of her head. "Don't do that, Sesshomaru. Don't try to distract me with meaningless questions." Sesshomaru closed his eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling her scent. She smelled fresh, like sunshine and jasmine.

"Sessho--"

"If I wanted to distract you, I could think of better ways to do it." Sesshomaru said, his voice low. In one swift motion, he pulled her against him roughly and claimed her lips. Kagome gave a surprised yelp that quickly turned into a soft moan.

Sesshomaru growled low in his throat, reacting to the noises Kagome was emitting. His tongue swept across her lower lip, causing her lips to part, allowing him entry. Sesshomaru was overcome with how good she tasted. If he never tasted anything in his life again, he'd be just fine with that. There was nothing better than Kagome's taste. Well, almost nothing.

He groaned when his thoughts led to more carnal pleasures. He tried to steer his thoughts clear of that territory, but the way Kagome was moving against him ever so lightly made it really difficult.

Kagome's mind was in a daze. She hadn't expected Sesshomaru to react the way he did, not that she minded. She reveled in the feel of Sesshomaru's lips on hers, his tongue gently probing hers. Her body screamed for more.

"Sesshomaru." Kagome whispered, running her hands through his hair. Sesshomaru lifted his head and looked into her eyes. They were burning with desire. He brushed his fingertips across her cheek, loving the soft sigh that escaped her lips. She seemed to be silently telling and asking him something at the same time.

Kagome knew Sesshomaru wanted her. She could see it in his eyes, the way they darkened to a burnished gold. She wanted him just as much, maybe even more. Her body practically burned for him. Her eyes pleaded with his. Without a second thought, Sesshomaru swept her up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom, laying her down gently.

Kagome reached for him, pulling him down on top of her. She ran her hands over his chest, loving the feel of his lean, muscled torso. He let out a low groan that was music to Kagome's ears. Her hands found their way under his black t-shirt, exploring every inch of his smooth skin.

Tired of her subtle torture, Sesshomaru leaned down and nipped gently at Kagome's neck, his tongue darting out to lick at the exposed skin. Her hands clutched at him, momentarily forgetting their explorations. He smirked, pleased he'd found a weak spot.

Kagome moaned Sesshomaru's name, sending a jolt of desire straight to his lower region. He trailed his lips from her neck down to the swell of her breasts, which were in full view thanks to the tight tank top she was wearing. Sesshomaru dipped his head down toward the offered cleavage, but stopped when rapid knocking filtered through his lust-induced haze.

He lifted his head and listened, making sure he wasn't hearing things. Kagome whimpered at the loss of his touch and looked at him with confused eyes.

The knocking soon turned to banging and Sesshomaru knew he wasn't hearing things. He looked down at Kagome, her face flushed and her lips slightly swollen. Kagome could've sworn she saw what looked like regret in his eyes, but whatever was there soon vanished as Sesshomaru rose from the bed. He straightened his clothing, slowly regaining his composure.

"From the ungodly racket, I'd gather your friend has come looking for you." Sesshomaru said, his voice as smooth as ever. Kagome slowly sat up, brushing a hand through her hair. Now that the trance was broken, she felt awkward. She didn't know what Sesshomaru was thinking, but he acted as if he hadn't been kissing on her just moments earlier.

"I completely forgot about Sango." Kagome muttered as she stood up. Sesshomaru smirked. "Didn't know that was possible." Kagome looked at him, a small smile on her face. "Did Sesshomaru Iakouy just joke about something?"

Sesshomaru shrugged. "It happens every now and then." He said as he walked out of the room. Kagome shook her head. The man never ceased to surprise her. She checked herself in the mirror hanging by the door before heading out after Sesshomaru. He was waiting by the door waiting for her to give him the go ahead. Kagome was a little apprehensive about seeing Sango, knowing her friend would have more than a few questions for her.

She nodded at Sesshomaru, who calmly opened the door to a very concerned looking Sango.

"What the hell is going on?" Sango demanded, glaring at Sesshomaru. He merely returned her glare with a bored look of his own. Kagome sighed and stepped from behind Sesshomaru.

"Nothing, Sango." She told the other woman. Sango glanced at her, her worry turning to relief. The relief soon turned to suspicion.

"What happened?" She questioned, her gaze alternating from Kagome to Sesshomaru. Neither said anything, Sesshomaru looking at her with an air of irritation while Kagome fidgeted with her shirt nervously. Finally, Sesshomaru spoke up.

"Nothing happened, you harpy. Kagome explained why she was at the mental institution and that was it." He said. Sango's expression told him she wasn't buying it. Sesshomaru sighed.

"Fine, if you must know, Kagome and I were just about to have sex until you came banging on the door." Sesshomaru said, his face completely blank. Kagome nearly fell over when she heard the words spill from Sesshomaru's lips. She threw him a look of utter disbelief. Sango, on the other hand, burst out in a fit of laughter.

"Yeah, I'm sure Kagome would just throw herself at you!" Sango gasped in between laughs. She had to clutch her sides, she was laughing so hard. Sesshomaru glanced at Kagome, one eyebrow raised. Kagome glared at him. She couldn't believe he'd just said that, even if it was true and Sango didn't believe a word of it.

"Thanks for the laugh, Sesshomaru. I needed it." Sango said, her laughter dying down. She turned to Kagome. "Miroku called your cell and I told him where we were staying. He's on his way over." Sango said, her eyes twinkling. Kagome grinned. The thought of seeing Miroku made her giddy.

"He said he's taking us out to dinner and he won't take no for an answer so get your butt back to the room so you can change." Sango ordered. Kagome nodded, giving her a salute. "Yes sir!" She barked. Sango made a face and returned to their room, humming merrily.

Kagome turned to Sesshomaru. She didn't know what to say to him after what had almost happened between them. He gazed down at her, his face unreadable.

"You're welcome to join us for dinner." She offered. Sesshomaru shook his head. "As tempting as that sounds," He said sarcastically. "I'll have to decline. I've got other matters to attend to." Kagome gave him a questioning look. "None of which is any of your concern." He added. Kagome looked away, but not before Sesshomaru caught the look of hurt that flashed in her gray orbs.

"Alright then, I guess I'll see you tomorrow." She said, turning to leave. Sesshomaru reached out and grabbed Kagome's arm. He gently turned her to him. She looked up at him. "Sesshomaru?"

He lifted her chin and placed a soft kiss on her lips. He knew he'd taken her by surprise by showing such uncharacteristic tenderness, but she deserved it.

"I trust you, Kagome." He said simply, releasing her chin and returning to his own room. He closed the door softly behind him, leaving a very bewildered Kagome behind.

~~~~~~
Kagome gave herself one last look in the mirror. "Not bad." She said, turning around and looking at herself over her shoulder. The light pink silk dress hugged her in all the right places and accentuated all the right curves.
Her hair was piled atop her head in a mass of soft curls, a few tendrils hanging down to brush her neck. She smiled, pleased with the overall effect and reached for the matching pair of open-toe six-inch heels.
Sango came waltzing out of the bathroom, stopping in front of Kagome and planting her hands on her hips. "What do you think? Will I knock Miroku dead?" She asked. Kagome looked up at her friend, giving her a sly smile.
"In that dress, I think he'd come back from the dead and jump you." She responded. Sango smiled, running her hands down the dress to smooth out any wrinkles. The simple black dress she wore was anything but. The material clung shamelessly to Sango's body, defining her well-taken-care-of body. The dress dipped dangerously low in the front, showing an ample amount of cleavage, and dipped even more dangerously in the back, stopping just short of where her back curved into her butt.
"You're one to talk." Sango commented, her eyebrow crooked at Kagome's own attire. "That dress looks gorgeous on you, especially the way it's cut at the thigh." Kagome looked down at her exposed thigh and frowned. "Do you think it's inappropriate?" Sango shook her head while she put on a pair of pearl drop earrings. "Not at all. It looks perfect on you."
Kagome nodded, satisfied, and searched through her suitcases for a purse. She finally decided on a small black clutch when her cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Kag, baby! How are you?" Miroku greeted. Kagome smiled. "Great! Me and Sango are just doing a few finishing touches, but we should be ready in a few." She said.
"Well, whenever you're ready, I'll be in the lobby waiting for you guys." Miroku said. Kagome told him they'd be down right away and hung up. She turned to Sango, who was smiling from ear to ear. She couldn't help laughing at how insanely happy her friend looked.
"Somebody's overly excited to see Miroku!" She teased. Sango tried to wipe the grin from her face, but it was no use. She was just too damned happy. "I don't care what you say, Kagome. I'm just happy to see an old friend that's all."
Kagome nodded knowingly. "Sure you are." She said as she put a few items into her purse. She walked to the door and turned to Sango. "You ready?" Sango gave herself a once over in the mirror and nodded. "Let's go."
The two walked out of the room, giggling and chatting about old college memories. Kagome threw a glance over her shoulder, looking wistfully at Sesshomaru's room. She touched her lips, remembering how softly he'd kissed her.
I do trust you, Kagome.
The words rang through her head, making her feel warm inside. For the first time, Sesshomaru had showed her how he really felt. She smiled, feeling a slight blush heat up her cheeks as she recalled their encounter. They'd been so close...
"Earth to Kagome!"
Kagome blinked and looked at her friend. Sango was standing inside the elevator, motioning for her to step inside. Kagome gave a nervous laugh and moved inside the elevator, watching the doors slide close. "What were you thinking about?" Sango asked, running a hand over her loosely curled hair. Kagome shook her head.
"Nothing." She responded. Sango shrugged, too occupied with thoughts of their coming activity to give it much thought. They continued chatting about old times until they arrived at the lobby. Sango and Kagome stepped out and instantly started squealing like two little schoolgirls.
"Miroku!" They yelled simultaneously. A few employees looked at them curiously as they ran towards the man dressed in black slacks and a white button up dress shirt.
"Ladies!" Miroku greeted, catching them both in a hug. Kagome giggled. "It's so good to see you, Miroku!" She gushed, leaning back to get a better look at him. He hadn't changed much since the last time she'd seen him. His eyes still held that same mischievous twinkle and he was as perverted as ever Kagome discovered when she felt a hand cup her butt.
"Miroku, you perv!" Kagome said, stepping out of his grasp and swatting at him. Miroku grinned. "Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself!"
Kagome shook her head. She couldn't stay mad at him. His boyish good looks and charm were too overpowering. Sango smacked him in the head when his hand crept a little too far south for her comfort. Miroku gave them a sheepish grin that seemed to say, I'm just a man and I can't help myself. Kagome and Sango both rolled their eyes.
"Shall we paint the town red, ladies?" Miroku said, throwing his arms around their shoulders. Kagome knew they were in for one hell of a night.
~~~~~~

Sesshomaru crept closer to the building, making sure he stayed in the shadows. For the most part, the building was dark, indicating most of the staff was gone for the night. Sesshomaru glanced at his wristwatch. The illuminated green numbers read 10:22. He wanted to be out of here by 11. It wouldn't due to transform while he was breaking into a mental facility.

He scanned the building and noticed a door near that side that read AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY. Sesshomaru made his way quickly to the door. He dug into his back pocket and pulled out the key card. He swiped it through the electronic reader, watching as the little light went from red to green. He pulled open the door and slipped inside, making sure to close the door quietly behind him.

He was standing in a darkened corridor. Hadn't these people ever heard of lights? Sesshomaru let his eyes adjust to the dark and looked around. The corridor was empty except for a set of heavy metal doors at the end of the corridor. Sesshomaru made his way towards the doors, his senses alert. The place was completely quiet, which didn't exactly put him at ease.

Once he reached the doors, he looked down at the handle. There was a rectangular screen next to it with an outline of a handprint. Sesshomaru frowned. This was going to be a problem. He couldn't very well pass his hand off as someone else's and he couldn't get through without a valid handprint. Doing the only reasonable thing he could think of, Sesshomaru smashed his fist through the screen, automatically tripping the system. The doors swung open slowly.

Sesshomaru stepped through the doors and was blinded by a roomful of brilliant bright lights.

"What the--" Sesshomaru never got to finish the sentence as something heavy connected with his head. He dropped to his knees and looked up, his vision beginning to blur.

"Mr. Hamada, I didn't expect you back so soon."

Sesshomaru squinted up at the figure that stood before him. He was losing consciousness, and could feel his body succumbing to sleep. Even though he couldn't make out the face, he recognized the voice.

"Dr...Fujiwara...w-what...." The words died off as Sesshomaru fell back, losing complete consciousness. Dr. Fujiwara looked down at him, her face blank.

"What do you want me to do with him?" She asked, turning to the man standing behind her. His amber eyes glinted with pure hatred.

"Secure him in chamber 6." He said coldly. The doctor glanced at him, a small emotionless smile on her lips. "Hmmm...the torture room. You must really hate him, Inuyasha." She observed. Inuyasha nodded his head slowly.

"You have no idea."
