"So make sure to call me later, ok?"

Kagome nodded and gave Sango a quick hug before leaving. She felt much better now that she knew Sango was safe. However, she still felt unsettled. Who was the mysterious woman who'd been the warning? And why was Kagome getting a warning? From who?

Kagome rubbed her temples, feeling drained. She didn't have the answers and right now all she wanted to do was sleep. She considered going up to her own apartment and crashing in her bed, but that just didn't have the same appeal as falling asleep with Sesshomaru's body next to hers. She decided to grab some clothes to bring with her.

After making the short trip to her apartment, Kagome was back in her car and on her way to Sesshomaru's. She needed to see him. Seeing his face would erase all of the fear and worry clouding her mind.

"We may have some more questions for you later on, Mr. Iakouy."

Sesshomaru nodded his head, his face blank. He noticed the way the officer looked at him, with a mixture of trepidation and resentment. Sesshomaru understood the man's feelings even though they were unwarranted. The officer had already made up his mind that Sesshomaru was responsible, being apart of the Iakouy family and all, and would probably be cleared of any charges. It didn't affect him, not anymore. He'd become used to it.

The officer tipped his hat and left to talk with the other officers. Sesshomaru stood where he was, looking around. He felt empty, like he'd been drained of whatever had been left in him. Even looking at Kagura's belongings, her personal items, did nothing. There was no sadness, no anger. Only an immense void of swirling black nothingness.

Abruptly, he turned to leave the apartment. As he neared the door, he spotted a framed picture of Kagura and himself, taken last year when they'd vacationed in the Bahamas. He grabbed the picture and started to leave.

"Hey! You can't take that." One of the officers nearest him said. Sesshomaru shot him a look, a look that dared the young officer to stop him. The officer gulped and looked away, not wanting to try his luck. He watched as the taller white-haired man silently left the apartment, a menacing presence seeming to trail after him. The officer shrugged before joining the rest of the officers.

Kagome checked the food for what seemed like the umpteenth time. After arriving back at Sesshomaru's, she'd decided to prepare dinner, scrounging around for whatever was available. She was able to put together a lasagna and had also prepared a fresh salad. She figured Sesshomaru had someone come to the house to deliver groceries since his kitchen was so well stocked. He definitely wasn't the type to concern himself with food shopping.

Kagome glanced at the wall clock and frowned. It was nearly 8:30 and Sesshomaru still hadn't made an appearance. Onigumo had called earlier, but he'd said he had no idea where Sesshomaru was. She didn't want to admit it, but she was beginning to get worried.

She placed the lasagna in the over to warm and put the salad in the refrigerator. He was probably handling some business and was running a little late. After all, they hadn't specifically said they would be doing dinner. She yawned, surprised to realize how tired she was. After today's ordeal, she felt weary and decided a quick nap wouldn't hurt. She went into the living room and stretched out on the soft suede couch, the material instantly cradling her tired body. She let her eyes drift close.

'I'll only sleep for a few minutes,' She thought to herself. 'And then by the time Sesshomaru comes back, I'll be....' The thought was lost as she started to snore softly.

Kagome didn't know what woke her, but she opened her eyes, feeling refreshed. She sat up and stretched, noticing suddenly that twilight had fallen. The living room was dark, the only light glowing dimly from the direction of the kitchen.

"Sesshomaru?" She called out, already knowing she was alone. She went into the kitchen and looked up at the wall clock.

"Twelve-fifteen?" She said aloud. The worry that she'd felt earlier now returned with a vengeance. She glanced at the oven, noticing that the knob was still set to warm. She flicked it off. Sesshomaru hadn't been home yet.

Kagome hurried upstairs, going straight to the guest bedroom. She spotted her cell phone on the nightstand and snatched it up. She could be overreacting, but her gut was telling her something was wrong. If the day she'd had was any indication, her concern might not seem that farfetched.

She quickly dialed Onigumo's number at the hotel and waited impatiently for him to answer the phone. She waited a few moments before she hung up. Of course Onigumo wouldn't answer the phone. He was more than likely going through his nightly transformation, just as Sesshomaru surely was.

Kagome sighed and placed her phone back on the nightstand. There was nothing she could do now but wait. She slipped into a short, thin-strapped black nightgown and threw on a matching robe. While she waited, she decided to fix some of the lasagna she hadn't gotten a chance to eat. She doubted she'd be able to eat much, but she hadn't eaten all day and needed to get something in her system.

She descended the stairs slowly, flicking on the light switch once she reached the bottom. The room was immediately bathed in a soft glow from the overhead lights and Kagome made a move toward the kitchen but stopped. She saw a flash of movement from beyond the sliding patio doors. She wasn't sure of what she'd seen, but suddenly she was aware of how vulnerable she was all alone in the big house.

She pulled the robe tighter around her body, her eyes searching for possible weapons. She spotted an umbrella near the front door and quickly grabbed it, holding it before her like a sword. She was fully aware of how ridiculous she looked brandishing the "deadly" umbrella, but she would rather look ridiculous than be dead.

Approaching the patio doors cautiously, she strained to see out into the penetrating darkness. It was too dark and there were too many shadows for a person to hide in. Kagome flicked on the light switch next to the door. The world beyond the doors remained draped in night. Kagome frowned and flicked the switch rapidly.

"Great." She muttered. The lights were blown. Looking down at the handle, she contemplated going out to investigate herself. The rational part of her mind told her what a bad idea that was, referring to the countless horror movies she'd watched over the years in which the defenseless virgin always went where she wasn't supposed to and ended up getting sliced and diced.

'Well, lucky for me I'm not a virgin.' The pigheaded part of her mind quipped. She hesitantly undid the lock and slowly slid the door open.

The night breeze tickled her legs and ruffled the flimsy material of her outer dress. She shivered slightly and poked the darkness with the umbrella.

"Is someone out here?" She called out timidly, hating how her voice came out in a peep. The wind rustled through the trees and an owl responded somewhere off in the woods, but there came no other sounds. Kagome glanced around, seeing only the faint outlines of patio furniture and a grill in the corner. She let out a nervous laugh. She'd probably just seen a bat or some--

"You shouldn't be out here."

Kagome let out a startled scream. She swung the umbrella in a wide arc, expecting it to connect with flesh and bone, but found that all she hit was air. She took a step back, confused. No one was there.

"Who's there?" She whispered in a frightened voice. There was a slight rustle of clothing and a split second later Kagome found herself face to face with Sesshomaru. She sagged with relief against the glass patio doors, dropping the umbrella.

"Damnit, Sesshomaru! You scared the living..." She paused, her irritation dissipating at the expression on his face. Even in the dim moonlight, she could see the crescent moon tattoo on his forehead, the slashes on his cheeks, the pointed ears. His demon appearance wasn't what halted her, however. It was the strange emptiness in his eyes. Even though they were crimson at the moment, she could imagine their familiar golden hue.

She peered up at him, her eyes shining with concern. "What happened?" She asked quietly, knowing something must have happened to cause that awful blankness in his eyes. She knew the difference between his usual guarded gaze and this empty stare.

His eyes flicked to her face before settling on a spot behind her head. He said nothing, neither wanting nor needing to say anything. Kagome watched his face closely, catching the almost imperceptible tick of his jaw. Something was definitely going on with him and if he didn't tell her, she was almost sure he would explode.

"Sesshomaru," She said, keeping her voice low and calm. "Please tell me what's bothering you." He continued to stare straight ahead. The lights shining from within the living room shone reflectively in his glowing red eyes. Kagome saw a slight flicker of emotion, which gave her hope. She placed her hand on his cheek, cupping it softly.

"Sesshomaru, please--" A low rumble disturbed the quiet of the night and it took Kagome a few seconds to realize that the noise was coming from Sesshomaru himself. His gaze was locked with hers, holding her in it's blank stare. The deep growl reverberated throughout his entire body, traveling from Kagome's hand to her own body. Her first instinct was to snatch her hand away and place as much distance between them as she could, but she didn't. Even though Sesshomaru wasn't exactly human at the moment, she knew in her heart that he would never hurt her. And right now, she knew he was hurting.

Showing him she was not to be dissuaded, she cupped his other cheek, holding his face gently in her hands. The growl deepened, Sesshomaru's mouth opening slightly to bare his glistening fangs. Kagome glared at him.

"Sesshomaru, all the growling in the world isn't going to make me leave you alone!" She hissed, her eyes beginning to glisten with moisture. "I know something happened, something terrible, but I'm here and I'm not going anywhere!"

Sesshomaru gripped her arms, his claws digging into her tender flesh and Kagome flinched, but didn't cry out. He roughly pushed her back against the glass doors, his eyes flashing. Kagome returned his gaze, not backing down.

"I'm not going anywhere." She repeated in a whisper. She stroked her thumbs across his cheeks, tracing the vivid markings. Sesshomaru shook his head, shaking off her touch. A tear slipped down her cheek as she desperately tried to get through to him.

"Talk to me!" She pleaded. He only looked at her, his eyes revealing nothing. She threw her hands around his neck, pressing tightly against him.

"Please, Sesshomaru!" She whispered, placing soft kisses along his jaw line. She wanted him to say something, do something to show her that he wasn't completely lost to her. He was still painfully gripping her arms, but she ignored the pain. Her only thought was of getting him back to her.

She moved her lips to his own and kissed them lightly. He was still unresponsive, but Kagome felt the quickening of his breath and knew she was getting to him. She pressed her lips more firmly against his own, her tongue darting out to lick them. Sesshomaru's grip tightened and she couldn't help the small cry that escaped her. He looked into her eyes, seeing the tears that sparkled there. He wanted to tell her everything that had happened, but something kept him from doing so.

He loosened his grip on her arms, noticing with a prick of shame that he'd drawn blood. She seemed oblivious, however. Her smooth black hair fell in a molten black cascade down her back, almost integrating with the silky black of her robe. She looked so fragile and vulnerable, yet she'd never displayed more determination.

He took a step away from her. He needed to get away from her before he did something he would regret. Kagome reached out, clutching at him. "Don't leave Sesshomaru." She said. "I need you to talk to me." Sesshomaru shook his head sharply.

"Not like this." He ground out, turning his gaze away from her. Kagome looked at him, surprised. "Why?" She asked. Sesshomaru hissed. "I can't be around you like this because I don't know if I can control myself." Kagome took a step towards him, reaching out for him.

"What happened to make you so unsure of yourself?" She questioned, her hand finding its way to his chest. Sesshomaru felt his blood heating in his veins.

"Kagome," He warned, his voice low. Kagome encircled his waist with his arms, pressing against him. "Tell me." She said softly, looking up at him. Sesshomaru was consumed with her scent and it was getting to him. "You don't know what you're doing." He said. Kagome tilted her head to kiss his neck, her eyes speaking volumes.

With a swiftness that surprised Kagome, Sesshomaru crushed his lips down onto hers. He pressed her forward until she was trapped against the patio doors. His hands fastened onto her hips, pressing her firmly against him. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss with equal fervor.

Sesshomaru didn't want to do this, doing everything in his power to stop it, but his demon blood roared, blocking out any rational thinking. He growled deep in his throat, forcing his tongue into her mouth. Kagome was helpless to the onslaught, her body reacting instantly to Sesshomaru's touch. She wanted him and her body was his to do with as he pleased.

He moved his mouth down her chin and to her neck, kissing the juncture of her neck. Her pulse beat erratically against his lips and this only turned him even more. He licked the spot, causing Kagome to moan, her head lolling back against the glass. Sesshomaru's hands moved to her breasts, squeezing them roughly through the material of her robe. Kagome gasped and arched her back, enjoying the sensation of pleasure and pain.

Sesshomaru impatiently flicked the robe from her shoulders, baring her soft creamy flesh. He kissed over her shoulders, inhaling her scent. It sent a shot of arousal straight to his groin, hardening painfully. He ground his hips into her, causing them both to groan in fierce need.

No words were needed as Sesshomaru tore her panties away and hoisted her onto his hips, pressing her back against the glass. Kagome instantly wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms secure around his neck. One arm held her waist while the other hurriedly worked at his pants. Kagome closed her eyes, the pressure building within her.

"Please, Sesshomaru." She whispered urgently. Kagome's eyes flew open as he thrust into her. There was no gentleness, only animal need. His thrusts were rough and hard, his body pounding against her. Kagome welcomed it, clutching him to her. She wanted him to pour all of his anger, all of his pain, everything into her. They didn't need words because their bodies communicated everything they needed to say.

Sesshomaru leaned his head against the glass, his lips pressing against her neck. He couldn't stop, wouldn't stop. It felt too good and he needed her, whether he admitted or not. He continued his bruising pace. She needed to know how much he needed her, how much he wanted her. He couldn't say it, but he needed her to know.

"Sess--Sess..." Kagome was lost in a sea of emotion. She'd never felt such intense pleasure as well as pain. Sesshomaru filled her completely, her entire being filled by him. She wanted this, always wanted this.

Sesshomaru held her hips more firmly as he hammered into her. He was almost there...almost. Kagome clutched his shoulders, closing her eyes tightly. The sound of Sesshomaru rocking against her, their breathing heavy, made Kagome arch against him, feeling him more deeply.

"Ohhhh," She moaned loudly. It was too much and her inner muscles contracted. Kagome cried out and let herself be carried away in the fierce climax. Sesshomaru quickened his thrusts, his head buried against her shoulder. He licked the juncture of her neck, nipping at it lightly.

With one final crushing thrust, he came in a long, violent rush. Instinctively, he bit down into Kagome's neck, causing her to gasp. He filled her until he was empty, his chest heaving. Kagome's head lolled to the side, her eyes half closed. She'd taken all he had to give and would gladly do it again, as long as he always came back to her.

Sesshomaru licked at the wound he'd inflicted, kissing it lightly.

"Mine." He whispered against her cheek. Kagome leaned her forehead against his chest.

"Always."
