InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Dark Hour ❯ In the End ( Chapter 25 )
Ch. 25
In the End....
Sesshomaru parked the car in front of a familiar brick house. He cut off the engine and stared at his childhood home. Kagome glanced at him before placing her hand over his.
"You sure this what you want to do, Sesshomaru? I mean, are you thinking clearly?" Sesshomaru shot her a look of irritation. He reached for the door handle and shoved it open. "I'm fine, Kagome and I do know what I'm doing." He said between clenched teeth. She sighed and followed suit, following him reluctantly up the flagstone pathway.
She stood beside Sesshomaru as he raised his hand and knocked on the door. They stood waiting for a response, but got nothing. Sesshomaru rang the doorbell impatiently and waited. Still nothing. Kagome glanced at him. "Maybe he skipped town. After all, he did betray Naraku and we all know how that ends." She gave Sesshomaru a knowing look. He frowned.
"It would be just like Inuyasha to do something that idiotic and take off afterwards." He muttered. Kagome couldn't help smiling. "Like brother like brother, huh?" She quipped. Sesshomaru glared at her before bending down to feel under the doormat. "There's got to be a spare key around here somewhere," He muttered. Kagome rolled her eyes.
"What is this, the '50s?" She pushed him aside and dug into her back pocket, triumphantly producing a plain plastic card. "Nobody keeps spare keys under doormats or under fake rocks, sweetie." She explained, slipping the card in the space between the door and the frame. She slid the card down towards the lock and turned the knob. The door opened slowly and she turned to Sesshomaru, a wide smile on her face. He looked at her, one eyebrow raised.
"Do you have a police record I don't know about?" He asked, only half-serious. Kagome stuck her tongue out before stepping inside. She looked around. "Place looks empty." She observed, noticing how various objects were in disarray. Sesshomaru nodded, peeking into a room. "You're probably right," He said. "Inuyasha more than likely took the first plane out of here."
He made his way to the living room and sat down on the sofa. Kagome noticed how tired and drained he looked. He closed his eyes and let out a pent up breath. Kagome sat down beside him.
"How are you feeling?" She asked. He inhaled sharply and before he could snap at her, Kagome held up a hand. "Don't give me that crap about you being fine, either. I can see that you're still in pain." Sesshomaru looked away from her gaze. After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, he said, "My body feels like it's on fire, like I was being pulled apart."
Kagome felt her heart tighten. She could've prevented this if she hadn't been so weak. "I'm sorry." She whispered. Sesshomaru looked at her, his gaze unreadable. "You have nothing to be sorry about," He told her. "It wasn't your fault."
Kagome shook her head. "If I could have snapped out of that hypno-state sooner, maybe I--"
"What? Could have taken on Naraku and Inuyasha and broken through those metal chains?" He asked sarcastically. He gave a decisive shake of his head. "There was nothing you could have done to stop what happened." Kagome looked down at her lap. She still didn't feel any better about it.
"Look, I don't know what that stuff I was injected with was supposed to do to me or what it might still do to me, but right now I just want to sleep." Sesshomaru rose from the couch and left the room without saying another word. Kagome sighed, not sure why he was acting so distant with her. She stretched out on the couch. Maybe after a nap she'd gain some insight.
Kagome felt the sensation of lips brushing across neck. Hands lifted her shirt slightly and the lips moved to her stomach, something wet darting out to lick her navel. She moaned softly. She didn't know if this was a dream, but if it was, she didn't want it to end.
Strong hands removed her shirt and she shivered slightly at the loss of warmth. She was lifted up and pressed tightly against a much better heat source. She peeked open her eyes and looked up into twin pools of liquid gold. She rubbed her cheek against his bare chest.
"Sesshomaru." She whispered huskily. An immense feeling of relief washed over her. Ever since the incident at Naraku's, he'd been acting strange, well, not so strange considering who he was, but she'd thought they'd gotten past his acting like a hard ass with her. Now, as she felt his hands unhooking her bra, he seemed to be making up for his earlier behavior.
She ran her hands through his hair, luxuriating in its texture. She studied his features, as if committing every minute detail to memory. He looked down at her, his gaze questioning. She smiled, leaning up to brush her lips lightly over his.
"I love you." She said simply, not expecting anything in return. The barest hint of sadness seemed to flash through his eyes. He nodded his head slowly. "I know."
Sesshomaru wrapped his arms tightly around her, crushing her against his chest. He wanted to keep her here, safe in his arms. The words she'd just uttered, words that caused his heart to both soar and turn heavy simultaneously, only strengthened his resolve. He knew what he had to do, but for now, he had this.
He pulled her down with him onto the couch, sitting her astride his lap. Saying nothing, he kissed her lips tenderly, his hands moving down to cup her soft breasts. Kagome moaned into the kiss, her own hands cupping his face. The kiss quickly turned heated, both burning with a need that would not be ignored. Sesshomaru's hands deftly unsnapped the button of Kagome's jeans, sliding them hurriedly off her slender hips. Kagome likewise made quick work of his own pants, standing up briefly to yank them off. With a slight groan, Sesshomaru pulled her back down, pressing her against his arousal.
Kagome looked at him, his golden gaze dark with desire. Her hand found its way to his hardened manhood, cupping him through the cotton material of his boxers. A growl reverberated through his chest, his hands gripping her hips tightly. Kagome needed no further prompting as she slipped out of her panties while Sesshomaru shoved his boxers below his hips, erection springing free. Gripping his shoulders for balance, Kagome lowered herself onto his straining member.
Sesshomaru grit his teeth, the feeling of her wet heat enveloping him making him want to thrust up into her violently, but he held back. He watched her, her eyes closed and mouth parted slightly. Her nails dug into his shoulders after she'd taken the entire length of him, her breathing uneven.
He had to admit that he enjoyed watching her ride him slowly, her breasts bouncing slightly with the motion. He couldn't help reaching out to give one of the luscious globes a squeeze, eliciting a soft groan from Kagome.
She opened her eyes, startled to find Sesshomaru staring at her so intensely. There was something in his gaze that worried her, but the feeling was swept away as another wave of pleasure crashed over her. He was so deep inside her, his length seeming to touch her womb with each thrust. She wanted to make this feeling last as long as she could, but she could already feel the pressure beginning to build.
Sesshomaru gripped her hips tighter, urging her to go faster. Even though lust was clouding his mind, he couldn't help the sadness that weighed down on him. This would be the last time he was with her like this, locked deep inside of her, feeling her inner muscles clench him so deliciously. He growled in the back of his throat, frustrated with the route his thoughts had taken. He didn't want to think about that now. All he wanted to do was get lost in her.
Kagome threw her head back as Sesshomaru, no longer able to control himself, lifted her hips and brought her down, his hips thrusting up roughly. He did so rapidly, their bodies slick with sweat.
"Oh, Sesshomaru..." Kagome purred, her hands moving to his chest, clutching at him desperately. It felt so good. She leaned her head forward until she was resting her forehead against his own.
"I want to feel you...come inside...me." She gasped, looking into his gaze that seemed to swallow her whole. She kissed him passionately, her mouth devouring his hungrily. He quickened his pace, slamming her down onto him almost brutally.
"Oh...god!" Kagome cried out just before her orgasm hit, rocking her entire body. Sesshomaru was right behind her, tensing as his own orgasm overtook him. Kagome slumped against him, her energy drained. He ran a hand through her hair absently.
"Was that your way of saying sorry?" She joked leaning back to look at him. Sesshomaru gave her a look. "What do I have to be sorry about?" Kagome looked at him knowingly. After a few seconds, he shrugged. "Worked, didn't it?" Kagome slapped him lightly on the arm before rising to her feet. "Where's the bathroom? I need a shower." She said, stooping to pick up her discarded clothing. "Upstairs, second door on the right." He told her. Before leaving, she turned to him, giving him a suggestive look. "Want to join me?"
Sesshomaru nodded his head. "I'll be up in a minute." He watched her leave, the sadness returning. He'd be leaving her soon. Her voice echoed through his head.
I love you.
"I love you too, Kagome." He whispered, burying his face in his hands. That's why he had to leave her.
~~~~~~
The wind rushed past him, the world a blur as he raced towards his destination. The moon illuminated the landscape, lighting his way. He tried not to think about her, how peaceful and serene she looked asleep on the bed. He felt something tug at his heart.
'She's no longer a part of your life.' He told himself. That didn't stop the ache in his chest, no matter how many times he told himself this. He focused on the ache; it fueled his anger and only strengthened his resolve to deal with Naraku once and for all.
~~~~~~
Kagome awoke sometime in the night, slightly disoriented. She absentmindedly reached out for Sesshomaru, but found only emptiness. She rolled over onto her side, thinking sleepily that this night was different from no other. He'd be back by morning.
~~~~~~
Sesshomaru stood outside of the darkened building. His eyes narrowed in suspicion. He didn't sense any security, leaving the house vulnerable. This wasn't like Naraku. He didn't believe in the word vulnerable.
He proceeded cautiously toward the back of the house, his unease growing by the minute. Still no sign of Naraku's goons. This could only mean one thing. Naraku was expecting him and he was, in essence, walking straight into a trap.
He reached the side door he'd been looking for and effortlessly ripped the door from its hinges. He stepped into the room where a single lamp was lit. He saw a figure sitting in a chair near the fireplace.
"Right on time, cousin."
Sesshomaru smirked. "You're losing your edge, Naraku." He said, his eyes glinting in the semi-darkness. "It was too easy to find you here, in this room." He gestured widely. Naraku laughed a short humorless laugh. "The interrogation room. My favorite room in the entire house." He rose from the chair, placing his hand on the fireplace mantle.
"But what makes you think I didn't plan this, Sesshomaru?" He asked, his voice giving away nothing. In truth, Sesshomaru had considered that. He knew there were few things Naraku did that were accidental.
"I knew you'd come back," Naraku continued. "The questions were just eating away at you, weren't they? What were you injected with? What was going to happen to you?" Another laugh. "You really are too predictable, Sesshomaru." He said, his voice colored with disdain. "If you were smart, you would have taken your bitch and hightailed it out of here...much like your idiot brother tried to do."
Sesshomaru hid his surprise. So Inuyasha hadn't made it out of town alive?
"He should have known better than to cross me," Naraku said matter-of-factly. "And to think he'd get away with it!" A note of genuine surprise could be heard in his tone, as if it were unthinkable that anyone could get the best of him.
"I did." Sesshomaru said, not without a hint of smugness. Naraku spun around, his demeanor instantly turning angry. "You should have stayed dead!" He spat. "You've managed to stay alive long enough, but unlike your poor dead brother, your fate will be much, much worse."
Sesshomaru flexed his claws, tiring of this little game Naraku was playing. "I will stay alive long enough to see you dead, Naraku." He said, his tone low. Naraku made a sound of disgust. "You think that you will be the one to bring me down? Of all the things I've ever thought about you, insane was never one of them."
"Sorry I can't say the same about you." Sesshomaru retorted. Naraku made as if to move towards him, but didn't, instead remaining where he was. "Be careful of what you say, cousin, because soon enough you'll be singing another tune." Sesshomaru frowned, Naraku's words confusing. What did he mean?
"Are you afraid to take me on?" Sesshomaru goaded, trying to force Naraku into making a move. It was the only way he would have the upper hand since it was obvious Naraku had something planned. He could tell that his words were getting to Naraku by the sudden spike in his scent.
"Don't be ridiculous," Naraku growled. "I'd take you on and win, but that's not what we're here for." Sesshomaru cocked an eyebrow. "Really? Then what are we here for? Stimulating conversation?" Naraku gave a snort of laughter. "Even in the face of your demise, you manage to keep that dry wit! I admire that, I really do."
"The face of my demise? What kind of shit are you talking about?" Sesshomaru snapped, his patience wearing paper-thin. Naraku clapped his hands together. "There! I finally cracked through that icy demeanor. Now the fun really starts." He took a few slow steps towards Sesshomaru, his features finally visible in the pale slats of moonlight coming through the window. His eyes were a dark, swirling red, his face hard.
"You wanted to know what was going to happen to you earlier," He said quietly. "Well, in short, your truest, deepest nature, what you were meant to become." His eyes glinted in the light. "This form that you're in now, this...facade, is nothing compared to what you're truly capable of."
Again, Sesshomaru got that dizzying feeling that he was not himself, rather someone else in a different reality. "What are you talking about?" Naraku walked closer, seeming to study him. "The curse that was placed on our family all those centuries ago goes deeper than what we have been led to believe. It's always been told that the priestess cursed us to change into a half-demon, but that wasn't the truth."
Sesshomaru looked at him, still not understanding what Naraku was telling him. "Somewhere over the years, the translation was misread, misunderstood. Our family wasn't cursed to change from human to half-demon form; we were cursed to change from true demon form to half demon form, the greatest of castrations in the days when demons walked the earth."
Sesshomaru blinked, shocked by what he'd just heard. Could it be true? Or was this just another of Naraku's lies? He shook his head slowly. "Why should I believe any of this? Why hasn't this been discovered before?" Naraku shrugged. "With our family becoming more westernized, the language barrier proved to be an obstacle...words were left out, changing the entire story."
"So you're telling me that our ancestors were full-blooded demons?" Sesshomaru said slowly, the words sounding unbelievable to his own ears. Naraku nodded. "And that, dear cousin, is the surprise." His voice took on an excited edge. "I've discovered a way to access that long dormant gene, to call forth the demon at will."
Sesshomaru took an involuntary step back. He felt himself being sucked in a dark hole and there was no way to stop it.
"I experimented with my father, but he was too old, his body not able to handle the full transformation, but you," An evil smile spread slowly over his lips. "You're young and strong; it will be a piece of cake for you." Sesshomaru almost laughed out loud. If what he'd gone through earlier was what Naraku called a piece of cake, his perception of pain was more than a little off.
"I'm not letting you get near me to perform whatever twisted experiments you have in mind." Sesshomaru warned, his body tense. Naraku shook his head. "You have no idea what an important part you play in the big picture," He said. "You will be my enforcer, the head of my own personal army of assassins." His eyes glazed over. "The Iakouy name will be feared worldwide and my empire will continue to grow until no one can rival it!"
He was past the point of insanity, Sesshomaru realized. The words spewing forth from Naraku's mouth were pure madness, the words of a man not in his right mind. The quicker he got rid of Naraku, the better. He lunged toward Naraku, but before he could make his move, Naraku spoke.
"I am the darkness that swallows you whole."
Sesshomaru was instantly brought to his knees, every inch of his body pierced with pain. He tried to stand, but couldn't, the pain crippling. His skin seemed to be stretching, tearing apart. He let out a howl of pain that sounded somehow animal.
"Just give in, Sesshomaru. It is inevitable." Naraku advised coldly. His voice sounded far away, as if coming from the end of a tunnel. Sesshomaru squeezed his eyes shut, giving in to the darkness beckoning him like a gentle lover. He could only think of one thing as he felt himself being taken over. He had failed her.
