Summary: Just when Rin thought they were getting settled, Naraku mixes things up on her all over again…

 

 

Rin wrung her wrists as she rocked back and forth in her seat. All of the children were out and about she knew, and she kept glancing up at Naraku as he paced, as he watched her. For once, she couldn't read his facial expressions or his body movement. For once, she had no way of knowing what he was thinking.

 

“Is this what you had planned for me all along?” she asked him, her entire body numbing in terrified anticipation of the answer.

 

He stopped and stood still only to shake his head at her and murmur, “No, Rin, my baby. This is just a new plan that I am coming up with now.”

 

She took a deep breath. “How can you ask this from me?” she wanted to know. She shook her head with angry tears in her eyes. “After everything that we have been through together, you ask me to forsake it all? Everything?”

 

As Rin rose to her feet, Naraku nearly dove to her side, taking her tiny hand in his. “There is only one thing that would make me want to give up all that we have built together,” he told her, his voice barely above a whisper. “You have stirred within me a passion I couldn't have known otherwise. I can never fully thank you for that.”

 

His words rang loudly in her ears as she made her way up the endless steps, and she sucked in a deep breath before passing beneath the sturdy torii.

 

“This is all that I can give you, my Rin. A way out. An escape.”

 

She plastered a smile on her face as she entered the main building, and a man ushered forward to greet her.

 

“Hello,” she told the old priest pleasantly. “I'm looking for Kagome Higurashi…”
