The Demon Game
Chapter 1: Prologue
Don't Own Inu-Yasha, don't report me
I walked down the busy streets of Chiba, but not as a normal sixteen year old (or fifteen turning sixteen, whatever) on the bustling streets of Chiba, I am an artist. An artist taking pictures of graffiti, not the most honorable job, but it's a personal hobby of mine, along with stamp collection and Beanie Babies. As I walked down the main street, wondering what my sweet sixteen present might be, I felt an arm on my shoulder and a hand over my mouth.
In case you're wondering, I'm Haruna Namioka, I have shoulder length black hair and I usually wear a t-shirt and jeans, nothing special. I have friends from all walks of life; rich, poor, dumb, smart, and the just plain crazy!
"Give me your money now!" a familiar voice ordered.
I growled and elbowed Taki in the stomach.
"Whazzat for?" he whined, winded.
"For scaring the crap out of me, you jerk!" I snapped.
"Touch-y, I just swung by to tell ya `bout the new graffiti I'm working on, got the gang workin' overtime. For your birthday present, ya know?" he dawdled.
"Damn it Taki, you got drunk again!" I fumed.
"Well I work better drunk, it gives me ins. .inspa… helps me work better." he finally gave up on trying to say inspiration.
"I have to get you back, you shouldn't be seen like this!" I scolded, dragging him back to the alley.
I deposited him there and hurried back home, my birthday was tomorrow! I had forgotten completely about it!!! I got home in a flash and was there WAY before Taki could say inspiration.
"Runie? Is that you?" my dad called from the third floor.
"Yeah, err, dad?" I called back
"About your birthday, right?" he guessed.
"Yeah, you're right." I admitted.
"Your mother and I have been thinking…" he started.
`Uh oh, that's never good'I thought.
"And we've decided to send you to Tokyo!" he finished.
"Your little friends---" Mom started.
"The ones we approve of…" he added.
"Pooled their money to get you a Polaroid camera!" she finished.
"You really are a lovely daughter, you have good manners…" he started.
"You're grades are never low…" she added.
"But your mother and I think you should see daylight once in awhile!" he joked.
"But I go to school and stuff!" I protested.
"Honey, as soon as you get home, you spend all your time in that darkroom of yours or in dark alleys, you rarely ever go to parks or outside anymore!" she stated.
"And you always wear those dark baggy clothing, wear something cute once in a while!" he added.
"I'm not four years old!" I protested.
"Neither is anyone else! So we got train tickets to Tokyo, you'll be staying at the home of a good college buddy of mine. They have a girl about your age, Kagome Higurashi, I think." she replied.
"You'll be going with the friends we approved of; Ayumi, Keiko, and Ryoku." he added.
"Can you quit doing the finishing each other's sentences thing?" I asked, annoyed.
"No!" the replied in unison.
"To keep you from backing out, the train leaves tomorrow!" dad said.
"I gotta pack now, then!" I yelped, running up the stairs.

I picked up my backpack, and duffel bag and set out on my way. I arrived at the train station in time to be early for baggage check.
"Hey, Haruna! Over here!" a 15 year old girl with short black hair and barrettes called from the back of the line.
"Hi, Keiko, where's Ayumi and Ryoku?" I called back.
"I was hoping you'd know!" she replied, shrugging.
"Here we are! Sorry we're late!" A 16 year old girl with long black hair and brown highlights apologized.
I envied her hair, it's so silky and long, but she liked my eyes and they way they always looked mischievous and laughing. I thought her eyes were good, they were big and it made her look kinda cute.
"I expected this from Ayumi, but Ryoku? I'm ashamed of you!" Keiko joked.
Ryoku was the only guy coming on this trip, he's a good friend but I must admit he's a geek. He's into computer games, mangas, and mythology. He also gets straight A's and is in the chess club, he's 18. He wears thick, coke bottle glasses but has naturally perfect white teeth and a sweet smile. It's not like he's scrawny or anything, he's got a job helping ship boxes. He has a nice personality and is very helpful, a perfect gentleman, he wears normal clothing and looked like any other really cute guy. I'd say a lot of girls would like him of he traded the specs for contacts and took his face out of a book or a video game. It would help too if he started to speak normal language and talked about something other than video games and fairytales.
We boarded the train and he `just happened' to get the window seat next to me, which he offered to me when I sat down, saying he'd rather I was happy and that he didn't care because he was playing Zelda. I agreed and thanked him, I had a haunch, but maybe my parents put me next to him since they `approved' of him and knew he had a thing for me. Why didn't he like Ayumi, you might ask. Well, she's a bit spoiled (not that I wasn't too, I mean, my dad owns a major car company and my mom's a lawyer. I just don't let it get to my head.) and I enjoy mangas and fairytales. I actually managed to beat him at Pokemon once!
While Ayumi was telling Keiko what she might want to wear once she turned sixteen next month, Ryoku and I were discussing the possibility of the legend of Inu-Yasha being real. In a matter of what seemed like only minutes, we were there. I led them to the Higurashi house where we were introduced to Kagome (who was sixteen at the time) and was directed to the guest rooms.

Hey! What did you think? Was it good? Bad? Awful? Tell me!!! I know it's a slow start, but it's a prologue, you know???
