Taiyoukai of the Western Lands, Lord Sesshomaru, silently watched the moons rising from the roof of his castle. From his cold and cruel demeanor that was feared throughout the lands, you would never know that underlying was a kind heart. He turned his golden gaze down towards the garden from his high and lonely view point. Most would never see the small smirk he let pierce through his usual cool facade, as he watched Rin tackle Jakken to the ground and pull mercilessly at his ears while Jakken muttered to himself about sickening humans.

A light drizzle started as dark clouds, emanating an evil aura moved through the darkening sky, drawing Sesshomaru out of his daze. Replacing his usual indifferent mask he gracefully bounded from the roof of his castle to his garden, several hundred feet below. Taking in a deep breath he caught the stench of who was within the dark mass of clouds.

"Naraku" he whispered the name unto the winds. "Lord Sesshomaru" came a small voice from beside him. Without even glancing at the child who was now prancing her way in circles around him he replied "What, Rin" in his usual icily commanding tone. The girl let out a happy giggle, completely unfazed by the fact that he was the most powerful demon alive and feared by all.

"Rin wishes to know for how long we'll be staying here milord" she said in a particularly gleeful tone, now clinging to his leg.

Turning to face the child staring up at him he could not help but let his eyes soften at the smile on her angelic face. "Until the next moon cycle, now release me at once Rin" he commanded. "Aye milord" replied the girl now happily spinning around in the now fully raining garden.

"Go inside Rin and dry off it would not do for you to catch a cold" he told her, even though it was not his true reason for wanting her to retreat to the safety of the castle. "Aye milord" came her immediate response as she quickly ran through the garden towards the marble steps leading up to the castle.

Once he was sure that she was safely inside he took one more glance at the ominous clouds housing Naraku to make sure that they did not come too close to his territory. Reassured that they were at a safe enough distance he turned, walking briskly after the girl.

'Something is missing' Sesshomaru wondered. Turning he looked to his loyal retainer looking quite pitiful, staring forlornly into nothingness with blood running in rivulets from the corners of what passed as his mouth. Multiple angry red lumps formed on his head making the demon toad appear even more disfigured than usual. Mentally sighing he walked over to his vassal and stared down at him.

"Jakken, get up now" he told him coldly. Looking up upon his lord, the foot tall demon gave a screech "Lo-lo-lord Sesshomaru you have come back for this lowly Jakken. Thank you my lord" stuttered the groveling demon bending and kissing at his feet. It was quite hard to resist the urge to kick him. He simply glared down at the toad for an instant and then abruptly turned, and walked away Jakken quickly waddling after him.

Once at the entrance to the castle, he calmly climbed up the same staircase as Rin had so recently ascended. He checked the barriers on the door that blocked any creature from entering without his immediate knowledge, then followed the girls scent to her room across a great many maze-like halls. He sped through the halls in such quick grace, that he would not even be seen as a blur, but as a flickering that you would dismiss as your imagination.

Arriving at her elaborately carved mahogany door he awaited outside for a few moments then knocked, "Are you properly attired yet Rin? "He asked to the door "Aye milord" came the muffled response from the other side.

Opening the door into her room, with marble white tiles in a flourishing design. It was furnished with a small table with four chairs, and a tea set in the center where he had been forced to endure many uncomfortable 'Tea Parties', as well as an oak vanity dresser, a matching closet and the queen sized bed with a pink canopy over it.

Sometimes he wondered if Rin would have a problem with it being dyed by the watered down blood of a bear demon he slayed one night when he needed its fur for her during the winter. She never questioned him when he brought her the meat and cleaned skin. He did not think it was something for a child to know.

Her bed was covered in a pink oriental down comforter with white silk sheets where Rin waited patiently for him to tuck her in. He gave a small smile at his adoptive daughter, who then gave him a toothy grin showing her missing tooth where she had been abused by villagers in the past.

Of coarse it was only a baby tooth and was already growing back or he would have revived the villagers only to kill them ten times over for marring his angel. Taking a few long strides he was at Rins side gently tucking her in.

Silently closing her eyes and relaxing she addressed him, eyes still sealed shut, "Lord Sesshomaru?". "What is it Rin? " "What do you do in that room" the girl asked curiously now wide open honey brown eyes sparkling.

Standing abruptly away from the girl, as though her look had scorched him he felt his eyes hardening as he told her in a voice gone rough and angry,, "I do nothing Rin. Do not ever ask me again". "Yes, milord" said the girl softly, her usual happy smile replaced with a look of sadness.

"Go to sleep Rin" he ordered turning and picking his way across the many scattered toys on the floor to the door, swinging it open hard enough that it swung back after hitting the wall and thoroughly closed behind him.
