InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The End is Only the Beginning ❯ meetings and a familiar face ( Chapter 3 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Thanks to everyone who reviewed my story. You people are my inspiration, well you and my 36 oz of coffee. This chapter took me longer to put up that I had planed, better late than never right? Once again, I am still indecisive as to what the pairing will be. Well I will have to see where my muse guides me. Speaking of my muse, that little bitch has been trying to run away from me. Let us just hope it stays long enough to finish this piece. For those of you who are enjoying this type of crossover may I recommend checking out “Mutant Mission” and “Mutant X”, I do not remember the names of the authors right now, but they are good reads. Enough of my rambling and on with the story
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters used in this story.
All around, Kagome saw only darkness, never ending darkness. Out of the darkness, a soft masculine voice called out to her. “Miko wake up, wake up now or this Sesshoumaru will ensure you pain for wasting my time.” Cracking her eye lids open, she could make out a blurry image of an angelic face framed by silver hair. Shaking her head to clear her head, memories of what happened a few minuets ago came back to her. Upon realization, Kagome leaped toward Sesshoumaru giving him a bone-crushing hug. The sudden contact cause Sesshoumaru to stiffen momentarily, but he returned the embrace. As Kagome came to her senses, a blush rushed to her cheeks that would put a ripe tomato to shame. Rubbing the back of her head sheepishly, she tried desperately to regain some self-dignity.
“Oh sorry about that, its just that I have seen you for so long. I could not help my self. By the way what are you doing here?”
Sesshoumaru's eyes were dancing with amusement at the sight of Kagome doing her best impression of a tomato. Giving her one of his oh so arrogant smirks, “Well, it is quite alright and to answer your question I am here to pick you up. Now shall we stop standing here and get going; I believe you are running quite late as it is.”
Kagome only nodded in response. Picking up her luggage, they made their way to the car. Not much was said during the drive to the Xavier mansion. As they turn into the gates of the mansion, Sesshoumaru broke the silence. “As soon as you get settled in I expect you to continue your training. I do not want you getting rusty; you will need your training if you are going to be here. The school you are teaching at is full of youkia, so you need to be on your guard. The humans now days, they think these people have powers because of a mutation, such stupidity. They have absolutely no clue that they had some distant youkia ancestry. Most have so little youkia in them that the genes are not active unless it is triggered by something life threatening or feel some strong emotions. Those simple humans will probably never comprehend that.” Reaching into the side pocket of his coat, he pulled out a white card. “This is my contact information, I expect you to call me immediately if trouble arises”
Looking at the card at hand, Kagome spots the name on the card. “Sesshou Takaitaro? Is that what you go by now?”
“Yes, taking the same name for five centuries would get some humans to start asking questions.” Pulling up to the mansion, a young red headed woman was standing there waiting.
Stepping out of the care the woman greeted her. “Welcome to Xavier's Institute for the Gifted. I am Jean Gray; I will be taking to meet with the Professor. Some one will come and get your things.”
Jean looked over the new comer that was clad in a knee yellow length summer dress. `She look so delicate and frail, I hope there is more to her than meets her eye. If she doesn't she is going to have a hell of a lot of trouble here'
Kagome smiled kindly at the woman and shook her hand; upon contact, Kagome felt something odd about her aura. `This is odd; I feel two presences inside of her. One is definitely youkia, or as people now a days call it mutant. The other seems out of this world, a spirit of some sort. I think on this later.' Pushing that thought out of her head, Kagome quickly did a scan of the area with her miko senses. `This is a special school indeed. Seems like very one here is part youkia. Looks like there is more to this mansion than meets the eye, I could sense some people underground, there seems to be a few sub-basement levels.'
“Pleased to meet you, I look forward to my stay. I am Kagome Higurashi.” Turning her attention to Sesshoumaru, she waved good-bye. “I will call you as soon as I get all settled in Sesshou-san.” Looking back to Jean, “Shall we get going?” Jean nodded in response.
Walking through the halls of the mansion, Kagome took in the details of her new home. The walls were panel in oak, and the halls were spacious. In appearance, the mansion seems like a normal old-fashioned building, but there was much more to it. `This place is not too bad. I could get used to living here, though it could use some more ventilation' They stopped walking when they reached a set of doors on the first floor. Stepping into the office, Kagome was greeted by a bald middle-aged man. He looked wise and he held himself with a sense of self-confidence.
“Ah, Miss. Higurashi please come in and sit down. I am glad meet you finally. I hope the trip here was pleasant.”
“Please just call me Kagome. The trip was as pleasant as a fourteen hour flight can be.”
“Now down to business, Kagome; I hope that you are well aware that you will be teaching children that are very special. Classes will start the first of September. That gives you about six and a half weeks to familiarize your self with the staff and the facilities here. You will basically be teaching general classes. There are three classes of history and one class of Japanese, and mythology. All living cost is covered during your stay here. There may be times when the some of the staff will be away on assignments that would require them to be absent for a period of time. In those cases, you will need to fill in on a position as a substitute. Do you have any questions?”
“Yes, I do understand that the children here are very gifted. I would like to know what abilities you have.”
The question seems to catch the professor off guard for a moment, as a slightly shocked expression appeared on his face. “Well, I am a telepath. I have the ability to read minds and move objects.”
“I see, well I would like to ask for you respect my privacy and refrain from reading my mind or sifting through my memories. I have another question. Why was I chosen to take this job? I do not believe this institute hires normal humans regularly.”
Xavier was even for surprised at her statement. `What is she hiding that caused her to make such a request? Perhaps in time she will open up.'
“If you must know; you were recommended by a good friend of mine Takaitaro Sesshou. He insisted I hire you, I have good faith in his judgment so I took his suggestion.”
Hearing this Kagome could not help but smile. `So this is all Sesshoumaru's doing, well I guess I should thank him later for the job' Just then a knock came from the door.
“The staff as arrived to meet with you. There will be someone to assist you for the first week here. He will be able to answer any question you would have about the institute.” Giving Kagome a reassuring smile, Xavier looked up to the doors and called them all in. A group of people filed in. The first to walk in was the woman that greeted her upon her arrival, Jean. Walking in closely after Jean was a tall man with brown hair, wearing a pair of red sunglasses. Then a woman with dark skin and white hair walked in along with another woman with long brown hair and a white streak in it. Next was a tall man with red hair, `definitely looks like the Miroku type'. The last one to walk in I recognized as the man that “rescued” from the thugs that night back in Japan. `Oh my God, that is Logan. I did not know he worked here, though I guess I should not be so surprised to find him working among his own kind.' After that little thought Kagome shot out of her seat and practically leaped in to Logan's arms.
“Logan! I am so glad to see you here!” Kagome squealed in delight.
The others in the room stood frozen in shock, half expecting the ill tempered Wolverine to lash out at the girl. No one has ever had that kind of physical contact with Logan with out getting hurt, except Jean. However, to everyone's surprise he did not do that, instead Logan graced her with a smile and hugged her back.
