InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The End is Only the Beginning ❯ Questions answered ( Chapter 5 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

So sorry for the very long wait, I made an extra long chapter to make up for lost time. I hope the chapter will answer some of your questions. Thanks to all my reviewers, it is always nice to know my work is appreciated. As for the spelling mistakes, I can only apologize. Microsoft word is a pain with their auto correct settings, they do not seem to want to let me spell words a certain way. As for some clarification, Rouge and Remy are not Sango and Miroku's reincarnations. They just have a sort of on/off relationship. The story will slowly unfold; I really do not want to rush things. As for the pairings, you will just have to keep guessing, do not worry hearts will not be broken. Personally, I hate love triangles, but who know where the story will be going. I am trying to be more disciplined and update more often, please be nice. I am trying. Once again I am sorry for my poor spelling and grammar.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or the X-men.

With the break of dawn, Kagome stirred from her peaceful sleep. The rays of the early sun crept above the horizon starting a new day. Blinking away the sleep from her eyes, Kagome sluggishly made her way to her bathroom. Waking up early was never Kagome's favorite thing to do, but all those years being dragged up at the break of dawn to travel across Japan or training have engraved waking up early into her life. After brushing her teeth and freshening up, Kagome walked over to open her window. The crisp morning air filled the room. Gazing out at the near by forest, Kagome decided it was a beautiful morning for early morning run through the woods. Slipping on a pair of black shorts, sports bra and loose t-shirt, Kagome tied her hair up and started her run through the woods.

The forest was nowhere as wild or as lush as the forest of Sengoku Jidai. Running along the trail brought back memories of traveling across Japan with her friends collecting jewel shards and hunting down Naraku.

Memories of the past played before her, reminding her of all her friends she would never see again. A sad smile graced her lips, grateful that at least she still had one link to the past. Banishing the sad thoughts out of her head, she made a mental note to call Sesshoumaru and make him come over for some interrogation. All the questions she has had concerning her friends have been eating away at her, and she wanted answers.

After an hour and a half of running, Kagome has abandoned her t-shirt. Tucking the shirt in the back of her shorts, she returned clad in only her sports bar and shorts. Every one has woken up when Kagome made her return. As she walked down the halls towards her room, every male stared at Kagome's hard toned body. The sweat made her skin glisten in the light gives her an eerie glow and her tendrils of her clung to her face. Oblivious to the stares, Kagome got to her room and made a call to Sesshoumaru, demanding he come over in a half hour, Sesshoumaru grudgingly agreed. After hanging up, Kagome hoped into the shower.

Punctual as always, Sesshoumaru showed up in front of the Xavier mansion half an hour later. Hearing the doorbell ring, Rouge opened the door revealing Sesshoumaru in a pair of black slacks and a white silk button up shirt that was partially open allowing a glimpse of his muscular chest. Rouge had stars in her eyes at the sight of the man at the door. Leaning on the doorway, Rouge greeted the man. “Hi there sugar, I am Rouge, what can I do for you?”

Glaring coolly at the woman leaning on the doorframe, speaking in his usually indifferent tone Sesshoumaru answered. “I am here to see Kagome Higurashi.” Looking slightly disappointed that the fine ass of a man in front of her was taken, Rogue invited him in. “Yeah, she is here. I will call her down; can you wait here for a minuet?” Seeing that she will not get any reaction from the ice prince, Rogue turned around and yelled at the top of her lungs. “KAGOME, THERE IS SOMEONE HERE TO SEE YOU!” Sesshoumaru cringed at the sheer volume of voice causing his ears to ring for a while as her message echoed down the halls. Right after, the sound of feet pattering down the halls could be heard getting closer.

“Hi, I am so glad you could make it,” Kagome announced. The after affects of the endorphins coursing through her veins from her run have not yet worn off, Kagome leapt at Sesshoumaru. Luckily, Sesshoumaru caught her, preventing them from being both knocked over. With her arms around his neck and legs wrapped around his waist like a hyperactive child, Kagome smiled at him like there was no tomorrow. Amused at her childish behavior, Sesshoumaru could not help but tease her.

“You know if I knew you missed me like that I could arrange a more private meeting later on,” Sesshoumaru whispered into her ear. At this, Kagome burst out laughing. “Oh my gosh, I can not believe the great ice prince is such a perverted attention whore.” Glaring at the giggling girl in his arms, he brusquely dropped her on the floor. “Woman I am neither a pervert nor an attention whore, remember that before I decide to cease your existence.”

Stopping her little giggle tantrum, Kagome looked up and smirked at Sesshoumaru. “That is more like the you I know,” Kagome said as she off the floor dusting off her outfit. “Come on lets go for a walk.”

Through out the whole encounter, Rogue stood confused at their behavior. One moment they were playfully flirting and the next moment they looked like they would not hesitate to kill each other. The icy man looked especially dangerous; the look he gave her earlier is still sending chills up her spine.

Sesshoumaru walked along side Kagome in silence with his arm draped across her shoulder. A mile into the forest, Kagome began to feel nervous. As much as she wanted to know how her friends have ended up living their lives, a part of her is afraid to know the truth. Annoyed with the Kagome's fidgeting, Sesshoumaru spoke first. “Miko I know why you called me here today. Seeing as you can not build the courage to ask the questions I am just going to tell you all I know, but you have to understand I do not know much detail.”

Kagome took a deep breath readying her self for the truth that is about to unfold. Seeing Kagome relax a bit, Sesshoumaru continued on. “The two humans, the exterminator and the monk, married and had many pup the years they were together. About a decade after, the exterminator passed away. I suppose the years of strain on her frail human body and child birth was too much. I have seen a few of their descendents still around though they have lost much of the spiritual powers of their ancestors.”

Although Kagome was glad that Sango and Miroku finally realized their love for each other and got married, she could not help but feel sad for Sango's early death. “I have lost all contact with the kit you traveled with. After your departure the kit became more and more withdrawn. At first he stayed with the humans you traveled with, but after the monk passed away in his old age, the newer generations of humans in the village was not as tolerant of youkai. Soon after I heard the kit left the human village. I am not sure if he is still alive or not.”

Trying her best to hold back the tears in her eyes, Kagome clung on to Sesshoumaru for comfort. Inside Kagome felt terrible for ever leaving little Shippou alone. Even though Kagome had no choice in her departure, she regrets not being there for the little youkai she grew to love as a little brother or even as a son. Choking back a sob, Kagome managed to tell Sesshoumaru to continue on with what he has left to say.

Seeing her on the verge of tears, Sesshoumaru decided to move on to less sensitive subjects first. Holding Kagome a little closer, he continued. “The wind youkai and her sister you saved from Naraku are still alive in this era. Kagura and Kana are currently under my employment. They are mainly in charge of keeping watch over my company, making sure there aren't any spies or undercover agents from my competitors.”

Noticing the shift away from mentioning the last member for her companions, Kagome began to worry about what happened to Inuyasha. Looking up from under her bangs, Kagome asked in a pleading voice. “Please Sesshoumaru tell me what happened to Inuyasha.”

Seeing as he can no longer avoid the subject, Sesshoumaru gave out a heavy sigh. “As soon as you disappeared the hanyou wept. I have never seen him in such a state. In the following days he spent all his time jumping in and out of that old dry well. For weeks he hardly slept or ate. His condition got better though when the two humans mated and had children. At times it seems as if he had lost all will to live knowing he could not wait the 500 years to see you again. His hanyou blood only gives him a longer life span not immortality. He would have died of old age before he will see you again. I heard after a few years, he finally accepted you were never coming back. The undead miko you spared came to him; they lived together in to woods peacefully for a while. However they did not wed. The miko for reason unknown to me grew weak and began to fade away. Both she and my half brother descended to the other world together.”

Kagome could not hold back her tears any longer after hearing about the death of her first love and dearest friend. Falling to her knees Kagome wept for all her friends. Hot tears poured down her cheeks endlessly. Sesshoumaru hated seeing the strong woman in this state. In attempt to comfort the crying miko, Sesshoumaru scooped her up and carried her in his arms. On the walk back, Kagome fell asleep crying in his arms. Sesshoumaru brought her back to her room and placed her in her bed. Giving a comforting kiss on her forehead and pulling over her covers, Sesshoumaru made is leave.

Logan has never been one to sleep late. In the early morning, Logan has left the mansion to train in to woods. Spending most of the early morning running through the woods and leaping through trees, Logan settled down during the late morning for a short break. Finding a high branch to sit in, he began to doze off when he heard two people treading through the forest. Curious as to whom they were, he headed off towards the direction they were in.

Getting into viewing range, the two people Logan heard walking turned out to be Kagome and another man. The man appeared like he was in his late twenties, tall with a very unusual silver hair. The sight of seeing the man walk so intimately with his arms draped across Kagome's shoulder made his blood boil. Blinded by his rage, Logan ran off away from the infuriating scene to relieve his frustration thinking. `Damn fucking pretty boys. I could tear out your stomach and shove it down your throat and I bet he couldn't even dodge a punch. Better yet, I would like to tear up is pretty face and rip out his arms.'

Spending his whole day in the forest cutting up every thing that got in his way, Logan finally returned in the late evening. After his rage subsided and he returned to his right mind, Logan was confused as to why he reacted the way he did. After all he and Kagome were only friends, and she had every right to date anyone she wanted. The last time he reacted like that to any degree was when he found out Jean and Scott was getting engaged. He has long accepted the fact there is not chance for him and Jean, but he still enjoy pissing off the pretty boy.

The whole day spent running around in the forest did not help Logan sleep that night. Hearing all the females in the mansion talk about how stunningly handsome the man with Kagome was did not help either. After an hour of tossing and turning, he finally gave up and made his way to the danger room to work out.

Turning the difficulty setting to a level eight, he began fight off the obstacles. Level eight was about at high up as he was able to beat with out some help. From the walls lasers with motion sensors fired stun rays at him. Dodging left the right, Logan leapt toward the holographic replica of a Sentinel. Logan latched on to the head of the giant robot and dug is claws into the machine, effectively puncturing the outer metal and digging into the internal wiring. Leaping off before the robot exploded, Logan landed in a crutching position, then instantly dashed to the right avoiding the stunning lasers. While dodging the lasers he ran up to the nearest sung and sliced it to pieces. The remaining laser guns were disposed of in the same manner. Just as he was about to attack the last remaining set of guns, someone entered the danger room. Distracted by the new presence, the laser was able to hit him on his right shoulder. Falling to his knees for a second from the pain he managed to roll to his left, turning around he dug is claws into the walls of the room to help him climb up. Reaching the gun stationed up towards the ceiling, he sliced up the gun completing the level. Extracting his claws from the wall, he landed in front of the invader, who dare interrupt his training and cause him to lose his concentration.

Waking up, Kagome found her self in her own bed. It was already late evening and she has missed supper. Getting up Kagome made her way to her bathroom to wash off the tear stains on her face. Having slept for the whole day, there was not way Kagome was going to be able to sleep anymore. Still depressed over the new information she learned about her friends in the past, Kagome decided to go and distract her self from thinking.

The hall ways were empty and completely quiet, but it was only ten at night. It was very odd that the house would be so empty at this time, Kagome just shrugged it off. She recalled Logan telling her there were training ground located in the sub-levels of the mansion. `Perhaps there would be a dojo or something like that I could train in.'

Getting down the third sub-level, Kagome sensed another presence. As she got closer to the presence she realized it was Logan's aura. Kagome continued making her way towards Logan's direction until she came upon a set of metal doors. `Logan must be on the other side of these doors. Perhaps the latch over there would open these doors.' Reaching over and turning the latch, the doors opened. Inside was a large room line with metal walls. Logan was in the center of the room with his back to me. He looked as though he was in pain holding on to his shoulder for a second. It took a few seconds before Kagome realized she had just disrupted Logan in the middle of the simulation. Logan has just disposed of the last obstacle, leaping off the wall he landed right in front of Kagome.

Furious at the person who interrupted his training, Logan stood up to look at the face of the person he was about to kill. “If you want to live you better start running, nobody dares interrupt my training and gets away with it.” Looking up his eyes met with a set of bright blue depths, it was Kagome.

“Sorry there Logan, buddy I had no idea where I was going and I just kind of stumbled in here. I am really sorry for bothering you. Oh how `bout this, I really could not sleep for the rest of the night anyway, so why not I join you in a friendly spar?” Kagome said in a hopeful voice.

Slightly skeptical of her abilities to be able to do him any harm, Logan agreed anyway to humor her. “Sure why not, but don't go crying and complaining when I win; I promise I will not hurt you too much.” Inwardly Kagome smirked at Logan's comment. “Okay Logan, but do not go easy on me or you might be the one crying.” Logan did not expect to hear such a smug comment come from her. Regarding what Kagome just said a bluff; Logan made his way out of the danger room. “Yeah sure what ever girly, now come on there is a dojo in the second sub-levels.”

The dojo was large, but not any where near as extravagant as the dojo Sesshoumaru has in his humble abode. “How do you want to do this? Are any weapons allowed?” Kagome asked Logan. “You can use any type of weapon you want, we stop when one of us yields. There is a weapon storage room over there on the left. You might find something you would like to use, I have my weapons right here,” Logan said while extracting his claws.

Kagome strolled over to the room, inside there were racks of assorted weapons. Most were western style weapons, but in the corner there were a small section of Japanese styled ones. Over all the katana there were not the best quality, picking up the best one she can find, Kagome returned to the dojo. “That is fine with me but I can assure you, you will be the one to yield.”

Getting into stance, Logan took note that the Kagome in front of him looked like a totally different person. In place of the happy seemingly carefree young woman stood a warrior that looked as though she has seen many battles. Her face betrayed no emotions, her stance was perfect. Inwardly, Logan began to second think her abilities as a fighter. Logan made the first move, making a direct assault. Running towards her with claws extended, Logan made an attempt to swipe her with his claws across her shoulder. Bringing up her katana, Kagome slide the blade in between his claws turning the sword horizontally twisting Logan's arm in an odd painful angle.

Logan gave out a grunt in pain, in response he brought up his other arm to try to slice her offending sword into pieces. Kagome swiftly turned getting behind Logan. With his claws still entangled with the sword, his arm was twisted around his back. Moving in incredible speed, Kagome swiped her feet under Logan causing him to fall. Straddling his back and placing the tip of her sword at the side of his throat, Kagome asked, “Do you yield?”

Lying on the floor with Kagome on top of him, Logan can feel Kagome's heat pressed against his back. Slightly distracted, he completely forgot the fact that he could simply retract is claws and get out of his predicament, not that he really wants to. “Fine I yield,” Logan half heartedly grunted out. Kagome was slightly disappointed the spar was so short. She knew Logan was not fight at full strength and was mad that he was holding back. “I thought you would be more of a challenge Logan, I am disappointed.” Kagome taunted lightly.

“Humph.. I admit you know what you are doing kid, but you wouldn't be so lucky if I wasn't holding back. Now let's do this again this time it will be strictly hand to hand, no weapons of any kind.”

“I am fine with that, but this time no holding back. I could take you on, I have fought bigger things than you.” Tossing her sword aside, Kagome got into a defensive stance preparing her self for his attack. Then continued their friendly spar for an hour and a half, each match resulted with Kagome as the victor and a frustrated Logan in disbelief that the tiny woman could bring him down when he was fighting at full strength. With every punch and kick thrown or blocked, Logan's respect for the girl grew. By the end of their fight, Logan saw Kagome as equal, and that is saying a lot coming from Logan.

Collapsing on the dojo floor, Logan was sprawled out trying to catch is breath next to a slightly panting Kagome. It almost seemed like she barely started to break a sweat. Glancing at her lightly flushed face, Logan had to fight to urge to kiss her slightly parted lips. Shaking away those thoughts, he sat up. “You are pretty good kid, do you want to try out the danger room. I bet you would like it.”

Kagome looked at him confused, “what is the danger room?”

“The danger room is the room you found me in. It is a simulation chamber with weapons and holograms that would simulate a real battle. There are different difficulty settings, I could run though a level eight on the single setting with out too much problems. Would you like to give it a spin?”

`This sounds like fun, maybe it would be more of a challenge. I really have not had a good hard work out for such a long time. Perhaps I could start training with Sesshoumaru again soon. God knows he can be the slave driver form hell.' “This sounds like fun, I will give it a try. Lead the way Logan.”

Kagome entered the empty white room. Placing the setting on level eight, Logan observed as Kagome easily vaporized all the obstacles. Through out the whole simulation, Kagome tried hard to not use any of her miko powers. Although she trusts Logan and she is sure the people here would welcome her more warmly if they knew she has special powers, she wanted to keep her abilities unknown in fear of anyone finding out her secret her burden.

Looking up at the control room, she yelled out, “Is that it? Is there a higher setting?” From the intercom, Logan responded. “Yes there is, but are you sure you want to try the highest setting?”

Annoyed with Logan's lack of confidence in her abilities, Kagome retorted. “Just give me the toughest thing you have. Look if I do start getting in trouble you could always just stop the thing right?”

Giving that some thought, Logan finally gave in. “Okay I am going to set it on level ten for five people, but as soon as you seem like you are having trouble I am shutting this thing down got it?”

Kagome gave him a confident nod and readied her self for battle. The sound of machines started up and soon a set of three Sentinels appeared along with a range of chains, saws, lasers and flying spears. Forming invisible shield in her left hand she infused her katana with some of her energy to making it stronger she made her way towards the Sentinels and sliced off their legs causing them to fall. Leaping on top of the robots she swiftly decapitated their heads disabling them. Picking up the metal scraps scattered on the floor, she slung the energy charged pieces towards the weapons mounted on the walls and on the ceiling. Upon contact they devices would explode, destroying it completely. The entire simulation was finish in ten minuets. Logan stood in the control room in utter shock. Even the five strongest member of the team could not complete this level in this time and without injuries too. Seeing this he was glad the whole thing was recorded, he must show this to the Professor.

The last simulation run was not that bad, though it was still easy. If she could use all of her powers she would have finished a lot sooner. Disappointed in the lack of challenge, Kagome gave up and returned to her quarters for a nice long soak.

Later that evening after dinner, Professor Xavier called a meeting for all of the X-men. Every one showed up except Logan, which no one has seen the whole day. Taking their seat around a round table, Xavier began explaining the situation. “X-men, lately there have been reports of uprising of Morlocks all over the city. The Morlocks are a group of underground mutants that live beneath the city. Most of them are there to hide from society because of their appearance. They have never been much trouble, and kept to them selves most of the time, but lately there have been cases of kidnapping we believe have been their going. I want a team of two to go and investigate if there is any truth behind this and the cause for it. Try to resolve the situation with as little violence as possible. Would any one like to volunteer?”

Scott was the first to stand followed by Jean. “Jean and I would go on this mission professor, since we are better prepared for negotiations”

“That would be fine, Jean, Scott, you two will be leaving in two days. That would be all for now. I bid you all good night X-men.” With that said the Professor left and everyone else returned to their respective quarters.
