InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The End is Only the Beginning ❯ Porposals of sorts ( Chapter 6 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Just for clarification, Logan is not Inuyasha's reincarnations. As for why Inuyasha gave up waiting for Kagome, he simply lost the faith to go on. Besides, he is a man that keeps his promises and when Kikyo approached him, he figured the least he can do for her is keep her company and stay by her side. Sorry for the scarcity of updates, it is hard sometimes to come up with things. My muse seems to enjoy abandoning me in the middle of chapters. I hope that I could get my butt in to gear and crank out more chapters faster. Thanks to all my readers and reviewers. Your reviews are greatly appreciated, they make me feel wanted. For all the spelling and grammar Nazis out there I beg your forgiveness for my errors. Someone commented on my spelling of the word youkai, well to the extent of my knowledge (which is limited), youkai are animals with super natural powers, youki is the energy youkai give off, and jyaki is the energy evil youkai give off. If you disagree with my usage of these terms, sorry but that is what I am sticking with. I realized my fight scenes are lacking a bit in suspense and such but I tried. Any suggestions are welcome as long as you put them nicely.
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or X-men
Early the next morning, Logan has called Professor Xavier, Scott and Jean to the danger room for unexplained reasons. The three of them waited in the control room for Logan to show up. When Logan stepped in the door, Scott spared no time in expressing is dislike for the early emergency meeting. “Logan you better has a damn good reason for call all of us here this early!”
“Cool it hot shot, I call you guys her to show you something. It seems there is a lot more to Kagome than any of us could ever imagine.” Logan said as he set up the footage recorded from the pervious night.
“What do you mean? I agree that she may be hiding some things about her self, but what could be so important for you to call us here on such a short notice?” Scott questioned Logan. Giving Scott a knowing smirk, “you will see, after you watch this you will be glad I dragged you all down here.”
Everyone watched the recorded footage intently waiting to see what the big deal is. The first few minuets were of Logan running through the simulation by him self. Growing impatient, Scott looked at Logan with disbelief. “Don't tell me you dragged us down here to watch you.”
Slightly annoyed by Scott's remarks, Logan snapped back. “Just sit tight and watch will you.” The footage of Logan ended when Kagome walked in, then after a pause to signify the beginning of the next recorded simulation. The screen returned to normal to show Kagome standing in the middle of the danger room in a defensive stance. While still watching the screen, Xavier asked seriously, “What level was this set on?”
Seeing that he has caught the Professor's interest, “The first round was set at a singles level eight. The footage after that is a five person team level ten.” Hearing this, every one stood shocked in disbelief with their jaws on the floor. No one can believe that the little Japanese girl can run through a simulation level by her self so easily, when five of the top members of the team put together would have difficulties completing the same level. Jean skeptically asked Logan, “are you sure you got the level right? I mean how is this possible, especially since she is just a regular human?”
Logan confidently replied, “Oh you better believe it Jean, I can tell you from personal experience her punches hurt as much as the look like they do.” The recorded footage ended and the room was silent for a while as the images they just saw registered in their brains. “So what do you think of this Professor?” Logan said shaking them all out of their stupor. Xavier contemplated on the question, giving Logan a sly smile; it looks like you will not only have a new teaching staff but also a new teammate. Jean, Scott, I believe it may be a good idea to send Kagome with you on your next mission.
Since it will not be a life threatening mission, I think it maybe a good opportunity for her if she is willing to join the team. I shall go speak to her today and I will inform you if she will be joining you for departure tomorrow.”
Kagome has spent most of her morning reading the newspaper and laying out her lesson plans for the year. The school year is still a while off, but Kagome like to be prepared, you never know when something unexpected comes up. Sitting at her desk sipping some freshly brewed coffee, a knock was heard from the door. With out look away from her papers she answered the person at the door. “Come in the door is unlocked.”
Jean opened the door and stepped in, “Good morning Kagome, I came to tell you the Professor wishes to speak with you right now in his office.” Putting down her coffee, Kagome stood up smiling cheerfully. “Sure I will be there right away. Do you have any idea what he wants to talk to me about Jean?” Unsure of wither she should tell her or not, Jean decided to try to avoid answering. “Um I am not really sure, but you will find out when you get there.”
Kagome softly knocked on the Professor's door. Entering the office, Kagome took a seat across from the Professor. “Ah Kagome I am glad you could come by on such a short notice. I have asked of you to come here today to see if you would like to become one of the X-men. I understand you are not a mutant, but your abilities would be helpful in keeping peace between humans and mutants. This would be a big step in bringing together human and mutant kind. Do you accept?”
The news did not surprise Kagome much, since she did go a bit over board with the danger room the night before, she had expected Logan to tell the Professor about her little demonstration. Kagome thought intently on the proposition. `I suppose this could be a good thing, I mean it would be almost like old times, fighting demons. Well not exactly, like how it was in the past, at least back then there were full demons. This could prove interesting, and I could actually put my training to use. This is not going to bode well with Sesshoumaru; I just know it. He was right when he said I attract nothing but trouble to my self. I guess I could give this a try.”
Returning her attention to the Professor, who has been patiently awaiting her answer, “Yes, I will join your team.” The Professor was relieved to hear she was willing to join the X-men. “I am glad you decided to join. This may be a short notice, but you will be going on your first assignment with Jean and Scott. You will be leaving tomorrow morning. This is should not be too difficult. You, Jean and Scott will be going underground to gather information on recent attacks and kidnappings that have been rumored to be caused by the Morlocks. The Morlocks are a group of mutants who life below the city to hide from society. Most of these mutants are in hiding because of their appearance. Over the past years, the Morlocks have been a mostly peaceful group, living their own life away from society. You will be provided a uniform; it will be available by tonight. If you have any other questions about the mission, Jean and Scott will be able to answer your questions. Logan will show you around the X-men facilities, good luck.”
Leaving the office, Logan was already out side the door waiting for her. Kagome was guided though a series of hidden passages with high security. “You know I demand a rematch, I want to fight you when you are at full strength. I know you are a better fighter than what I saw last night.” Kagome said breaking the slightly uncomfortable silence. Inwardly Logan thought to him self, `after training all day of course I was not fighting at full strength not to mention you are such a distraction.' Logan chuckled lightly at her demand. “Are you really that eager to get beat? I have no problem with that request, but let us make it more interesting, if I win, I get to take you out to dinner, and if you win well you could do to me what ever you like. How `bout that?”
Kagome was speechless after hearing this. Blushing lightly, Kagome turned her face away from Logan's view to try to hide he blush. `What is wrong with me, it is not like this is the first time someone asked me on a date. I have had boyfriends before, but I have never felt butterflies like this.' Trying to ignore the summersaults her stomach was doing, Kagome answered, “Sure I'll take you up on that, but if I win you better not back out of what I want from you.”
Logan was more than happy Kagome did not reject his offer. With a smug smile, Logan replied, “How about next week, Wednesday eight in the morning sharp. Might as well start picking out what you want to wear to dinner, because I am going to win.” Kagome responded to Logan's comment with a sly look, “We'll see, you never know what could happen.”
For the rest of the morning and afternoon, Kagome spent touring all the X-men facilities. She knew this mansion has its secrets but she never expected it to be like a military intelligence base. Like a kid in a candy store, Kagome ooh and awed at the high-tech artillery and security. `Wow, this place is amazing. All of a sudden, I feel like a superhero and I just found the bat cave. All that is missing is some yellow spandex' Kagome thought to her self. After the tour ended, she returned to her room to continue working on her lesson plans, glad that she started on them early. The rest of the night passed peacefully, and after dinner Jean and Scott filled Kagome in on their plans of action.
When she went back to her room after dinner, she found a black uniform lying on her bed. Picking it up, Kagome tried it on. The suit was comfortable, and the material was tough enough to act some armor, but at the same time, it was flexible. The suit fit snugly on her body, like a glove. Taking off the back suit, Kagome took a quick shower and got ready for bed. Although the Professor said her first mission was an easy one, she could not help but feel like something big is going to happen. Pushing that thought aside, Kagome settled in for a good nights rest.
