JUST TO END IT ALL
“No!” Inuyasha screamed and bolted upright, his whole body drenched in a cold sweat.
He looked around himself frantically, jumping when something brushed against his arm. He gazed down and found himself staring into the face of a cream colored kitty with black markings.
He sighed and scooted backwards until his back hit a tree trunk. He reached down and picked up the kitty who had sat patiently, watching him.
“Kilala, what are we going to do?” He asked, running his hand over the cat demons smooth fur. She just looked up at him and meowed before butting her head against his hand.
They sat there together watching the sun rise up, sending color splashing over the land. He looked down at his clothes and decided that it was time that he cleaned them. They were still covered in blood and guts of demons he had killed two weeks earlier. They had been terrorizing a village so he took it upon himself to help and he killed them. He hadn't gotten so much as thank you.
When the others had still been alive, they had always gotten to stay the night in the fanciest house in the village and had gotten a celebratory meal, as thanks for killing the demons. That had all changed once the others had gone, now the only thing Inuyasha got when he helped out a village was whispers and murmurs about himself going on behind hidden hands.
Inuyasha looked down at the kitten sleeping on his lap and thought back to when he had found her again. It had been a couple weeks after Naraku had killed ther others and he had been wandering through the woods trying to find something to eat.
FLASHBACK
He was stalking a deer when all of a sudden a creamy blur shot out of the bushes tackling the deer to the ground, silently and swiftly killing the animal. He froze in the bushes, letting out a silent cry of anger that some demon had stolen his dinner. He growled quietly and sat back to wait for the demon to finish so he could steal whatever was left. (*wah!!! Poor Inuyasha acting like a-a-a-a homeless person! I feel so bad for writing that.)
His heart stopped in his chest when the demon stopped and cocked it's head in his direction. Mentally, berating himself as he crawled backwards slowly. He froze he stepped on a branch, making it snap in half, alerting the demon to where he was. He saw the demon turn in his direction and gave up on trying to make a silent escape. He turned and ran, twigs and branches snapping off as he crashed through the forest. He let out a small yell as he tripped over a raised tree root.
Before he even got the chance to jump to his feet he was pushed into the ground by a huge paw in the middle of his back. He closed his eyes and turned his head to the side, taking in what he thought was going to be his last breath of the forest. He paused as a scent waved across his senses, some how it smelled like someone very fimiliar to him, but that couldn't be possible, `cause everyone he loved had died in the last battle with Naraku. He took another deep breath and frowned when Kilala's scent became even stronger.
He was stunned when the demon on top of him leaned down and started to sniff his hair, before stepping back off his back, releasing him. He stayed on the ground completely floored, before jumping to his feet and whirling around, prepared to fight the demon incase it was just toying with him. His heart nearly stopped as he came face to face with a cream colored fire neko demon, with cream colored fur and black marking on her legs, ears and face.
“k-Kilala…” he whispered his heart thudding uncomfortable in his chest. Before his eyes, she changed into her smaller form and meowed, running forward to rub against his legs, proving that it was her.
A choked noise sounded from the back of his throat and his knees gave out, sending him plummeting to the forest floor. Hestitantly, he reached out a hand to her a she brushed her head against it, purring at the contact. (*how many people wanna guess if I have a cat or not? Hehe tell me in a review) He picked her up and walked back to the clearing where the dead deer layed. He set her down and she changed into her larger form and together they finished off the deer, Kilala eating it raw, Inuyasha roasting it, very impatiently, he had eaten in weeks.
END FLASHBACK
He sighed and got up, looking down at Kilala. “Come on, it's time to find some food again.” She made a noise like she understood and slowly got to her feet, sticking her rear end up in the end as she stretched. She walked over to Inuyasha and knocked her head against his ankles before transforming into her larger form. He smiled at her thankfully, knowing she was trying to distract him from his thoughts. Together they walked through the forest stopping every once and a while when one of them thought that they smelled a wild animal or a hot spring. Finally after wandering around for about a hour or so, they finally stumbled upon a cliff that dropped off, and at the very wee bottom he spotted a river winding through the canyon.
LATER THAT NIGHT
He stared into the fire, remembering all the times that he had sat around the camp sight, listening to Miroku, Sango, and Kagome ramble on about random things, occasionally bursting out laughing. Their laughter seemed to ring about in his ears, reminding him of all the times they had laughed together at one another's expence. Their faces flashed before his eyes; Kagome's happily light one, a perfect smile making her whole being light up; Sango's red faced one her breath coming out in bursts when Miroku copped a feel, her hand raised to strike her fiancee's face; Miroku's thoughtful, peaceful, expressions which could quickly turn to a lecherous grin when a female was present, the love that twinkled in his eyes as he gazed at Sango laughing with Kagome.
Inuyasha jumped to his feet and strode away from the fire, ignoring both the firecat demon who looked after him curiously, and the heavy weight that seemed to appear on his chest, as his closest companions faces flashed before him.
He walked quickly up the giant slope that led to the top of the canyon, which overlooked a huge portion of the land. He stood on top of the canyon, close to the edge, his hair blowing back away from his face as a gentle wind blew around him.
His eyes stayed closed as tears started to pour silently down his cheeks, the emotions he had been trying to smother for the past couple of months, finally breaking past his shields.
He stood up there trying to remember what he had done befor he met the others but the only thing he could remember was Miroku's kind words as Inuyasha berated himself for letting get hurt, as the monk had done so many times for him before.
Sango's fierce determination to save her brother and protect all those who she loved.
Shippo's cocky little mouth which had often got him into trouble with his adoptive mother but yet still made him laugh. The little kitsune's attempts to protect the other's from the fire that the Renkotsu had started while they were still under the affects of Mukotsu's poison.
Kagome, who had cried for him so many times, that he could not even remember, while others had simply left him to die. She was the one who had saved him, more times than she ever would have known.
He held back a sob, and tears continued to fall down his cheeks as he took a giant step forward letting himself fall forward, the fast flowing air whipping back his hair as he tumbled through the air.
All their faces continued to flash through his mind as he fell, Kagome whose face got red when she yelled at him. Sango who cried for him. Miroku who had protected the girls to the end when Inuyasha asked him to.
`Kagome….Kaede…Shippo…Miroku…Koga̷ 0;Sango…Kohaku…Kilala….Ginta…
Hakaku...Myoga….everyone….I'm sorry..' he thought his eyes opening as fell, and the last thing he saw was the dark night blue sky, the stars winking down at him, making him smile ruefully when he realized what they reminded him of.
`Sorry…father……
