Part 3- It Worked!
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha blah, blah blah, yada yada, yada & so on an so fourth you all know the rest.
Kagome sat up all night and spent most of the next few days reading and re-reading certain sections/passages of Astral Projection for Dummies. Well, she thought with a heavy sigh, it was now or never. She had set up her room just before evening with everything she thought she might need to find herself in a calm and relaxing meditative state. She dimmed the lights with scarlet colored cloth, lit lightly scented lavender and vanilla candles, and had bought a CD full of light airy classical music that might help her drift off to a lucid dream or whatever, the book had called it. I must be out my head she thought to herself for probably the hundredth time. It had been nearly a week since Inuyasha had stolen the jewel from her and she knew that as crazy as this was perhaps it was just crazy enough to work. And with that she laid down and resolved to keep her mind a blank to relax and think of where she needed to project herself to and not why she needed to go there.
She closed her eyes, took deep breaths, and pictured herself standing beside the well in Feudal Japan. She took another deep breath and another and....before she knew it she was there. She couldn't believer it, IT WORKED! She saw the village, and smoke raising from the feudal homes up ahead among them was Kaede's hut. She wanted to go race off towards them, but when she stepped forward, she made the mistake of looking down as she was about to take off and she was terrified at what she saw her foot appeared to sink into the earth and then she began to freak out because it started to feel like a quicksand effect, like she would vanish into the earth. She fought the urge to panic and tried to focus again on standing on the earth by the well. But the second time, however proved much harder than the first and then she found that now that she had reclaimed her standing position she didn't want to chance the quicksandy effect again. She was unsure if she would be able to subdue her fear a second time. You can't just stand here, Kagome after all you went through to get here you have to do something she thought to herself.
She closed her eyes, braced herself and stepped forward again. She was relieved when she opened her eyes without looking down and saw that she had moved closer to the village. She took another wide step and another, and with each step her confidence grew and finally she broke out into a run. Once in the village and in front of Kaede, Kagome couldn't help but let out short yelp of excitement.
"Child," Kaede greeted her "But how..." the old woman began.
"I could ask you the same question." said Kagome warmly. "Anyways," she added "How I got here isn't as important as why I am here, and I think we both know that."
"Indeed, Child, Indeed." Kaede nodded. "Why don't you come in" she said gesturing toward the door of her home.
Kaede lead the way into her home and Kagome walked right in behind her, it felt good to be back again, but for how long she wondered.
