InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Enigma of Power ❯ Dreams And Reality ( Chapter 10 )
Kagome sat up with a start. Outside the wind shrieked against the house, inside Buyo protested the rude awakening. Absently petting the cat she rose. She'd returned through the well long enough to tell Inuyasha she was going home for a few days. She doubted he would follow her, but on the edge of her awareness she could sense…something. Here in the modern world it was hard to tell what she was sensing. She'd run across normal looking humans who had possessed just enough youkai blood to register, though she doubted they knew. No doubt they just thought they were clairvoyant or athletically gifted. Still it tugged at her and she rose. She slept in a violet lace camisole with matching panties that left almost four inches of her abdomen, mostly below her belly button, bare. Always present where the two necklaces. She slipped out of bed and headed downstairs.
The awareness was still there, but also still weak. She opened the door and stepped outside, barefoot, into the night. The wind tugged at her, dancing through her hair and slipping along her nearly-exposed flesh. She crossed her arms over her breasts to keep warm and walked toward the God tree. She stood there, silent and still as a statue, staring up into its wind-tossed branches. She felt him come up behind her, his warmth welcome in the crisp air. His arm slipped around her, caressing her stomach, dipping into her panties. Her breath caught in her throat and she closed her eyes, leaning back against his chest. His scent filled her world as she moaned his name softly.
Kagome sat bolt upright in bed. Sweat slipping down her forehead as she gasped for air. Never had she ever had a dream like this before. She closed her eyes and tried to recapture Sesshomaru's scent. Suddenly she frowned. She could sense a demon near. She glanced down at the camisole, panties, and necklaces, feeling revealed. She slipped out of bed and padded downstairs, doing her best not to wake the rest of her family. Outside the wind howled and shrieked. It tore at her as she crossed the yard to the well house. The building was empty and undisturbed. She turned and almost ran into Sesshomaru. She gasped when she saw him. Blood spattered his kimono, and there was a long gash down his side. He swayed and she steadied him, gently leading him back to the house.
Heedless of the consequences, she turned on the lights and managed to get him to lie down on the sofa before he collapsed. She sighed with relief as he lost consciousness while she stripped him down to his loincloth. The gash ran from his right shoulder, down his side, stopping just above his right hip. She could see ribs as well as organs and he bleed freely. She hissed under her breath. What had he been up to? She heard noises and looked up her mother stood on the steps, trying to see what she was doing.
"Wake Ojiisan, then get the first aid kit." Her mother hesitated. "Move! Or do you want a dead youkai Lord in your house?"
She jumped slightly then sprinted up the stairs a few minutes later she returned, first aid kit in hand, and her grandfather being pushed down the steps before her. Kagome waved them both over.
"Okaasan, go into the kitchen and fill the big pot with water then put it on to boil. Once you've done that, get clean sheets and tear them into strips several inches wide, then put them in the water, make sure it stays at a boil for at least five minutes before you pull them out." She nodded and ran to obey. "Ojiisan, I need you to get the sewing kit and Souta's chemistry set. Wake him if you have to, this is too important to worry about stealth. Then get back here, I'm going to need an extra pair of hands."
Kagome cleaned the wound carefully. She set a hank of black silk thread in a Petri dish and poured rubbing alcohol over it. Then she used Souta's Bunsen burner to heat a needle until it was white hot. Once it was cooled she threaded the needle and began to stitch up the wound. All of this was watched with fascination by her mother, brother, and grandfather. Her mother eyed her daughter as she worked.
"You've done this before?"
"Once or twice. Inuyasha usually doesn't need it, but Miroku and Sango and even Kirara have all managed to get themselves torn up in the past."
She set the last stitch then nodded at her work. She formed a pad with the cloth her mother had boiled and with Grandpa's help managed to get the bandage wrapped around his chest. At last they lay him back on the sofa. She bit her lip. She knew she could use her magic to heal him, but she was unsure how. Manipulating his life force when there was so little of it could kill him as easily as it could save him. She would have to wait until he regained some of his strength before trying such a thing. All that was left was for them to wait and pray. Her mother shook her head slowly.
"I don't think we can move him, but he can't stay here in the living room. People are in and out of here all the time."
Kagome nodded, this was a problem she could address. "Stand back. Souta, go make sure the door to my room is open and the covers are pulled off the bed."
Souta ran to obey. Kagome waited for him to return, knowing he would want to see all of this. She sank into herself, finding the dark place and gently lifted Sesshomaru off the sofa. The others gasped as she levitated him up the stairs and into her bed. She sighed softly and sank into her chair, exhausted from the expenditure. Her grandfather covered Sesshomaru then closed the door, leaving her mother and Souta on the other side.
"When did you learn this?"
"My last trip. I was taken to see a teacher named Subaru."
Her grandfather nodded. "I have heard of her."
Kagome started, despite her weariness. "You have?"
"I have. You are indeed gifted if she took you on as a student. Can you heal him?"
"It would be dangerous now for me to try. I will if he does not improve, but right now it is best just to let him heal on his own. We could put Tenseiga in the bed with him. That might help things along a bit."
Her grandfather nodded. "Which sword is that?"
Kagome frowned. "I'll show you, Tokijin is dangerous, it can suck the soul right out of you if you're not careful."
Her grandfather nodded and wisely did not say what was on his mind. This new friend of Kagome's was dangerous beyond words, that he could sense, but there was also something about him, something that drew the old man. What it was, he could not say, but he had never felt anything like it before in his life.
