Sesshomaru watched Kagome for close to a week before he had an opportunity to get her alone again. She was gathering flowers and herbs in a field near the village when he appeared. She sensed him immediately and leapt to her feet. Her eyes narrowed when she saw him. He couldn't help the smile that touched his lips as he approached her. He liked her when she felt helpless, there was something arousing about her when he knew he was in control. He stopped with less than a few inches between them.

"No guard dog today I see."

She trembled at his nearness, and he could hear her heart beat increase. "Inuyasha is not my keeper, nor I his."

He reached out and touched her cheek. She closed her eyes to better enjoy the caress. He tilted her chin up and leaned closer, his breath warm on her lips. His mind brushed over hers and he couldn't help but smile at what he found. Gently, his lips claimed hers, plying them with promises of sweet surrender and heated passions. She trembled as he pulled her against him, enjoying the sweet taste of her mouth and softness of her body. Her arms went around his neck and with a start he realized she was kissing back. They broke the kiss for a moment, breathing hard and staring at one another.

Kagome could not understand what was happening to her. True she liked Sanji, but nothing he could ever do could make her feel the way she did with Sesshomaru. It felt right to stand her like this, to be held and to hold him. Suddenly thoughts of Inuyasha broke over her mind and she pushed herself from his embrace. Shaking she turned and ran. Sesshomaru followed her easily and watched as she leapt down the well. He sat on a branch for several moments, trying to decide what to do. He wanted to follow her, but he knew that what he wanted and what he needed to do were two different things. Slowly he rose and headed north toward the place his servants said the miko Kikyou was staying. It was long past time he started acting like the Lord of the Western Lands.
