InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Game of Love ❯ A Lost Love and Old Friends ( Chapter 6 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

Author's Note: Gomen! Gomen! Gomen! There is nothing that I hate worse then people who start things and then take forever to finish them, but look at what I'm doing here!::sigh::I'm such a hypocrite. I keep putting this off for the longest time due to serious writter's block. The reason I started now again was because I was reading all the old reviews and decided that I owed everyone who took the time. So see it really does help to review! I really hope that there's still some interest in this story. Once again please review so I have a bit of inspiration to continue(and hopefully a little faster this time). This has been a really long A/N I know, so here we go with chapter 6...

Sunlight peeked between the leaves of the God tree. Sitting with her head in her knees, protected by the tree's mighty arms sat a very depressed Kagome. It had been three days since Kikyou had unexpectedly shown up at the village with her request for Inuyasha to accompany her on a final search for the remaining jewel shards.

Kagome could remember Inuyasha coming back from his brief meeting with Kikyou and asking to talk to her alone for a moment. That was the first sign to Kagome that she wouldn't like what followed.

"Kagome, Kikyou wants me to go with her to find the shards.", Inuyasha said looking straight at her with those ember eyes.

"What are you going to do?", Kagome breathed. She could already tell by his face what the answer was.

"I think it would be better for all of us if I just went and got this whole mess over with. The last thing I want to do is leave you, but you'll be safe here. I can get the shards and kill Naraku without having to worry so much about your saftey and I might be able to help Kikyou move on. This is the best thing for us.", He repeated praying she would understand.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as Kagome reluctantly nodded to him. She knew he was right, but there was still a part of her that paniced at the idea of Inuyasha being alone with Kikyou. He took her face with his hand and gave her reassuring kiss before starting off to meet Kikyou at the God tree.

Kagome remained standing there for a moment the tears still leaving shinning trails down her cheeks as she looked after the man she loved. Then, making a quick decision, she walked to the God tree to watch from the brush as the person she loved most in the world left in the company of the person she hated most.

Only seconds after she arrived did Kikyou herself appear in front of Inuyasha and the tree. Kikyou's normally expression void face now wore a rather arrogant smile on it.

"I knew you would come.", she said propheticly,"There was never a time that you wouldn't come when I asked."

"I'm here to find the shards, Kikyou. The sooner we all put this behind us the better.", said Inuyasha.

"Well then by all means lets go. There is no reason to stay here and talk...we will have plenty of time to do that later.", She replyed.

Inuyasha nodded uncomfortably and allowed Kikyou to climb on his back so he could carry her and make faster time. It remined him of all the time he and Kagome had done the very same thing setting out on a similar quest. Those memories also gave him a new determination of what had to be done on this trip for Kagome.

In a moment they were out of sight, traveling at Inuyasha's impressive speed. At this Kagome came out into the clearing and sat down under the God tree and wait till morning.

Kagome had since vistied that exact same spot often in the past days. She missed him so much. I was a very different kind of miss then when she went back to her time for a few days, those times she knew where he was and more importantly who he was with.

There was a bad feeling about him being alone with Kikyou that she just couldn't shake. She trusted Inuyasha very much. It was Kikyou that she didn't trust. It had taken all the restraint Kagome could muster not to tackle Kikyou to the ground as she hide in the bushes and listened to their conversation before they left. And now she had no Inuyasha. She could just die.

"Kagome-chan?"

Kagome looked up to see Sango standing in the clearing with a very concerned look on her face.

"Hai, Sango-chan?"

"You've been sitting here for nearly three hours. Why don't you come back to Kaede's hut and have some lunch with us. You've been looking kind of pale lately."

Kagome forced a small smile and nodded. She was actually very hungary. She had been feeling rather off lately too.

"It's probably just a cold combined with all this stress lately.", She thought to herself before getting up to follow Sango.

Far away from Kaede's village was a barron battle-scared field to the south. Every few feet were the decayed remains of both humans and youkai along with rusted armor and swords. The sky seemed to be a perminate gray color that contrasted with the spots of what looked to be fresh ruby red blood dotted along the landscape.

Gotama smiled slightly at the found memories of this place. His face quickly turned serious however as he neared a large cave off to the west side of the battle field. It had been 60 years since he had been forbidden to ever again set foot in th sacred lair of the Yousima. Today though he would finally be redeemed.

There were no guards standing post at the entrance to the cave. Why turn foolish people away from meeting their death inside? A few tourches cast dim pools of light over the musty path inside. Nothing had changed since the last time Gotama had made this trip.

He came out at a large fur adorned room. In the center was a huge table with about 100 chairs around it, each filled with a youkai. There was a sudden hush over the room as Gotama entered. Immidiately he was grabbed from behind by two youkai and surrounded by another 20. A younger looking youkai walked right up to Gotama threateningly.

"I don't know who the hell you thik you are but we don't like visitors.", He said preparing to give a would-be-fatal blow.

Just then the younger youkai was knocked forcefully to the ground. A much larger and older looking youkai stepped calmly over his mangled body.

"Next time Aaku I suggest that you allow your commanding officer to act first upon intruders. You almost took my chance to be the one kill this baka. You have a lot of nerve Gotama, showing up here like this.", Said the larger youkai calmly.

"Chao, please just give me a chance to explain. I have some very valuable information for you. It could help the Yousima reclaim some of it's old power, we could even regain the Western Lands. You kill me now and you'll regret it."

Gotama remembered Chao well. In his day Chao had been just under Gotama in rank. In fact they had been close friends. Chao had never once questioned Gotama's battle choices and until the terrible battle with Inumaru he had never had reason to. Gotama had even promised Choa that he would get the chance to rule the Western Lands after the defeat if Inumaru. After their own down-fall though Chao had seen his friend in a new light and sided with the rest of the Yousima. Gotama was after all the reason that at Chao wasn't ruling the Western Lands at this very moment.

Gotama could see the logic working out in Chao's mind. The curiosity at the last remark must have been too much because a slight smile finally appeared on Choas face before he spoke.

"I'm listening."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just outside the cave entrance in which Gotama was telling all the information he had gathered about Inuyasha from Naraku stood a tall figure. Not far from him was a toad youkai chasing after a small girl, looking very annoyed. Sesshomaru wore a passive expression and seemed to be deep in thought.
"Hmm, I don't smell Gotama's blood so they haven't killed him yet. I guess that means that either way there going to here that pathic plan of Naraku's. And their far too big of idiots to pass something like that up. Perhaps I should pay my brother a visit soon."
Taking one last look at the lair of the Yousima, Sesshomaru turned and called to Rin and Jaken that they were leaving and to follow him.
Chapter 7
Author's note: Well there it is. I know this plot is taking a while but don't worry, it will fill out in the next few chapters. Speaking of updating, I've decided that to make sure I get it up in a reasonable amount of time as soon as I get 10 reviews I'll post the next chapter so review, review, review!
