InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Girl and the Band ❯ The Car ( Chapter 1 )
A/N: Okay, so hi everyone. This is my first fic, so it is probably not that good. But I hope you read and review anyway. Thanks. So here goes.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any of its characters. That would be Rumiko Takahashi, lucky girl.
The Car
The silver Mitsubishi raced past yet another slow vehicle, most likely traveling at ninety on the freeway to do so. Four girls sat in the car, each loudly gossiping about boys and makeup over the sound of the car stereo blasting the latest hit, it's base vibrating the small car. Each girl that is, except for one. She sat in the back, huddled close to the open window, the wind thrashing her long black locks of silk-like hair, the thrum of the base strong against her back as she watched the blurs of numerous shapes, that the speeding car never allowed to take form, pass her window. Her mind was miles away from the car, the music, the occasion, and of course her pesky, persistent, but meaningful friends.
Kagome glanced at her watch to gauge just how much time had passed when she really needed to study for her math test. In reality, her plans for the afternoon had consisted of sitting on the couch, watching TV, reading her book, procrastination, and finally last minute cramming. Unfortunately for Kagome's plans, her friends had other activities in mind. Which of course lead to her current position in the car. Even now as she went over her abrupt departure, the details were obscured it had occurred so suddenly. One second she was reading her favorite romance novel, in which the devilishly handsome and powerful hero rescues the innocent beauty from her sorrowful fate while opening her eyes to the wonders of life and pleasure of an all-consuming passion, definitely a pure classic. And then from one heart beat to the next, her friends had arrived and while one grab some of Kagome's clothing, another Kagome's purse and some makeup, the third girl grabbed Kagome herself and pushed her and her stuff into a car, all this done without a word exchanged. 'Oh yeah, they definitely had that planned.' Kagome hadn't even been told for what she had been so rudely ripped from the best part of her book and shoved into the backseat of a car. For the first few minutes, she had listened to the ongoing conversation between her friends and had learned that they were on their way to some kind of concert, and then proceeded to block everything else out.
Turning her head and focusing on the current topic, Kagome realized that it was still about the oh-so-popular band that they were about to see. Kagome figured their music might be good, but that didn't fool her. Her friends were going because of the boys, boys, and boys. Typical teenagers. Kagome was apparently going because she never did anything social and "really, really needed a boyfriend", or so her friends had explained. This would be Kagome's third concert. The first two were very melodramatic and rather slow. Nice seats, okay view, music not too loud. There had be some screaming girls, but Kagome recalled having fun. She had even been daring enough to stand on her chair for a few of the songs to give her support to the band. However, Kagome figured this would be just another boy hunt, one in which she could hopefully sit and wait until the concert was over. 'Too bad I didn't grab my book. Oh well…better than doing math…ugh.' Kagome slumped further into the seat, her eyes glazed and unfocused as she tried to recite the book from memory, possible only due to the amount of time she had read it. 'I really was at the best part.'
"Hello…earth to Kagome. Hey, you in there?"
Kagome looked up, focused her gaze, and let her eyes slid to her two friends facing her; concern clearly shone from their eyes. "Yeah."
Yuka, who was sitting beside her, relaxed a bit, giving Kagome a concerned yet helpless look. "Stop daydreaming. We're having fun tonight Kagome. You never get out, this is your night, so maybe you should be here for it." Yuka's gaze turned to a slight glare.
"Sorry, I am having fun, it's just… oh, never mind. So, who is it we are going to see again?" Kagome said causally, twirling her hair, and refocusing on the blurs outside the car.
Yuka sighed and glanced at Rei sitting in the front. "Honestly, let's just sit and marvel for a moment at Kagome's stunning attention span," Rei said with an exasperated tone. Yuka looked back at Kagome," We are going to see Shikon No Tama Kagome, you know, only the most popular band with the absolute hottest guys who just happen to be playing in our pathetic little town. I told you how hard it was to get tickets, didn't I?"
"Hm, oh yeah, right, tickets. Sorry, mustu forgot." Kagome said to Yuka over her shoulder. "So then, you get us good seats?"
"Seats?" Sasuka who was driving finally had to add to the conversation, amazed at Kagome's lack of knowledge. "No, you don't 'sit' at a Shikon No Tama concert. Really Kagome, where have you been? The tickets are General Admission."
"General Admission? Okay, and that means…?"
"Dear God Kagome" Sasuka yelled, her hands in the air as the car swerved out of her lane causing Rei to grab at the wheel before they crashed.
Yuka grabbed the handle above her head and waited while Sasuka took the wheel from Rei and steadied the vehicle. "Sasuka," Yuka started calmly, "could you possibly NOT try to kill us and keep your hands ON the wheel." Yuka glared at Sasuka's head a little while longer and Sasuka opened her mouth to start an argument that did not need to happen now. Rei raised her voice to conquer those around her, "If you two are quite finished…" Yuka and Sasuka fell silent and Rei slowly let the air from her lungs. "Okay. Kagome, General Admission means…" Rei paused to glare at Yuka and Sasuka, ready to stop any interruptions. When neither spoke, Rei continued, " It means that everyone stands on the floor, crowded around the stage. It is also called a mosh pit, however I doubt it will be that bad."
However, Kagome had tensed at that phrase. 'A mosh pit? Oh God, time to panic!' "Wait, aren't those dangerous?" Kagome bit her lip to stop it from trembling. She hated crowds, and she tended to get rather claustrophobic. This was not good.
Rei sighed and looked back to Kagome," I just told you it won't be that bad, right Yuka?"
"Yeah" said Yuka with confidence, "Unless of course, you fall and get trampled on, or maybe you are dropped when you are crowd-surfing, or even get hit by someone else who is crowd-surfing and they fall on you, or maybe if…"
"Yuka, you are not inspiring my confidence." Kagome said sternly, her face suddenly falling to a look of fear and uncertainty, "I've never been in a mosh pit."
"Don't worry," piped in Sasuka for the first time since the incidence, "It is not as bad as it seems, you'll get the hang of it in no time."
"Yeah, it will be a lot of fun, much better than sitting and reading a book all night. There will be guys."
"Oh yes, lots, plus that dreamy drummer."
"Oh I think you mean the guitarist my dear Rei."
"Wrong, she means the lead singer he is so…"
Kagome blocked out the rest of the conversation, wishing she were at home with her book opposed to traveling to the concert that would be her doom. 'Goodbye cruel world, Kagome Higurashi is going to die.'
A/N: So there it is, please review. I have it written to the mosh pit chapter and will post that, but if nobody likes it than I might not finish the fic. So please tell me what you think. Chase J
