It was now late at night, you could even call it dinner time. The sun had already set and InuYasha along with Miroku, Kagome, Sango, Shippo and Kirara had all been taken back to their hut that they were staying in, eating their dinner that had been already served to them-compliments of Larina and her daughter Tani.

“I'm really impressed with you InuYasha,” Kagome began as she watched the fire that was set infront of her, “You actually helped someone today.” She finished while she was eating every last drop of the food from her bowl.

“Yes, we have InuYasha to thank for having such a delicious meal.” Miroku stated before he took another slurp of his soup from his bowl.

“That's a first” Shippo commented.

InuYasha gave Shippo a conk on the head, “ow!” Shippo yelped, receiving a lump on his head.

“What was it that you actually did anyway?” Sango asked.

“Eh… some kids were picking on her and I showed them who's boss; no big deal. They won't be bothering her for a while; I made sure of that,” InuYasha responded before munching on his rice ball.

Kagome stared at InuYasha and observed him for a moment; his attitude seemed edgy like it was no big deal to him or something. “He was taking a glimpse of his own past when he saw Tani getting picked on… he sympathizes with her; the suffering that she has to go through because she's different from every one else. InuYasha understand whats she's going through...”

InuYasha realized that Kagome was staring at him which seemed pretty annoying to him. In return, InuYasha grimaced, “What are you looking at?”

Kagome blinked, snapping back to reality, not aware that she had been staring at InuYasha for so long, “oh sorry,” Kagome started, waving him off, “it was nothing… I was just… day dreaming.”

InuYasha gave her a confused look but decided to brush it off, because of his hunger as he continued to munch on his rice ball.

Meanwhile… somewhere off in a castle that was surrounded by poisonous miasma, lived public enemy number one, no other than the evil, selfish, greedy demon, Naraku. Naraku had been sitting where he always sat, in his dark room watching through Kanna's mirror like he usually does.

Of course Naraku had been the one that sent the simusho to spy on InuYasha and his friends. InuYasha and his friends in the same region Naraku was. Knowing Naraku, he took that advantage to spy on InuYasha to see any of his weak points. But unfortunately, his simusho had been spotted by InuYasha and with by last minute, therefore Naraku had to kill off his insect like that so that his hiding spot hadn't been discovered or InuYasha would be able to sniff him out. But fortunately, before Naraku had killed off his insect, was able enough to gather enough information about the other half demon which lived in the village that InuYasha and his friends stayed in.

Ah ha, he spoke, “So, this… Tani character is that of another half demon. a half demon that lives with a Priestess who happens to be her mother… interesting, perhaps I could use her to my own benefit…” Naraku pondered. “She may not be strong enough to take down my selective enemies but, with a little help from my jewel shards… I can make anything happen.” He snickered. “Kagura,” he then called.

Kagura the wind sorceress, Naraku's very own incarnate had entered into the room, “yes, Naraku?” she answered as she walked up to him.

“Keep a close eye out for the half demon girl, especially her mother.” Naraku ordered, I don't want her to get out of your sight, understand?

“Yes Naraku… I understand.” She responded without asking any questions.

“Good, take off then,” Naraku instructed.

With that, Kagura was gone without a trace, taking the wind with her, leaving Naraku alone with Kanna.

Naraku then at that moment had soon gotten up as he had taken on his trademark disguise; his white baboon suite suddenly appeared over him appeared over him I shall use the half demon child and her mother for my own benefitsto take down myenemy. But first things first… I shall test my own strength to see if I could take down my original enemy…”

“I brought you some more rice balls for you guys,” Tani said coming in to the hut that InuYasha and his friends were staying in. “I even brought some grilled fish if you'd like some.” She offered, laying the food down.

“Wow, they look great Tani.” Shippo said as he took one of the grilled fishes that were on a stick and began to chow down on them.

“I agree, the food that you've brought us have been delicious,” Sango commented looking at the food.

“Mhm,” InuYasha agreed with his mouth full of the rice ball that he was already eating.

“Thank you, Tani,” Kagome said as she one of the rice balls.

Tani bowed her head as a response as she took a fish of her own and then sat down to join them.

Sango couldn't help but notice that Tani's mother wasn't with her, “Where's your mother? Isn't she going to join us?” she asked.

Tani looked up at Sango to respond as she swallowed a mouth full of the fish she had just consumed, “um… she went out for a walk. She does that sometimes… from time to time she doesn't really eat, she usually fasts…” Tani responded. “She prays every now and then for my father. She figured that I should serve you as a hostess. Instead of her joining,”

“Oh and where is your father?” Miroku asked.

Tani's eyes went sad as her head lowered, “h-he passed away….”

“Oh…,” Miroku replied feeling guilty for bringing it up; pardon my asking.” Miroku apologized.

It's okay… I don't really remember him all that much so it's not really all that bad; I have my ocarina and my necklace to sorta kinda remember him… though I don't exactly remember him all that well… so you can imagine how difficult that must be…” Tani replied sheepishly with her head still down, not giving them any eye contact, taking a bite out of her fish.

“I can imagine alright,” Miroku replied.

Tani looked up at Miroku and smiled weakly to him.

“InuYasha can sorta relate to that,” Kagome said, “and he can also relate in so many other ways as well,” she added silently.

InuYasha jerked his head up; he was too busy eating his fish that he didn't really follow up with the conversation. He then gave Kagome a confused look, “mmrph??” he murmured with his mouth still full.

Tani could help but giggle at InuYasha's reaction; to everyone giggle seemed warming. Soon as well as Sango and Shippo who followed along with Tani as InuYasha swallowed his food. Miroku just smiled at he took sip of his soup. Kagome couldn't also help but smile and giggle as she shook her head at InuYasha.

InuYasha raised an eyebrow out of confusion, “what's so funny?”

“Well,” Kagome said as she tucked her hair behind her ear, “I was saying that you can relate to Tani,” she explained.

InuYasha still looked confused as he looked at Tani, “really, how so?”

“Oh jeez InuYasha,” Sango said with a relented sigh, “you really need to keep up with us when we have a conversation, Tani was just talking about how she doesn't remember her father and then Kagome said that you can relate seeing how you can't remember your father either,” she explained.

InuYasha paused before he spoke as he scratched his head, “right…I guess I can relate to you then,” he told Tani, “I don't remember my old man either… I don't really remember what he looks like,

Do you have anything that sorta keeps his memory alive even though yo don't really remember him?” Tani asked.

“Well, not really... unless you count my sword, the Tetsusaiga,” InuYasha replied holding on to the sheath that kept his sword.

The young half demon pulled a confused face, “T-tetsaiga?” Tani tried to pronounce.

“Exactly,” InuYasha confirmed, “my old man gave it to me before he passed on,”

“Wow… that's really cool,” Tani said.

The small conversation continued a little longer until Larina had showed up to pick up her daughter; it was Tani's bedtime and she needed to get some sleep back at her home, leaving her guests in their hut that they were staying in so that they could get their rest as well for tomorrow.

-----

The very next morning, InuYasha and his friends were up and ready to go, to continue on their search for Naraku or at least get any leads in hopes to find their arch nemeses to begin with. The group, Tani and Larina were out of their huts saying their goodbyes to one another.

“Thanks again for letting us spend the night in your village.” Kagome thanked as she bowed her head down.

“We're truly grateful to you, priestess.” Sango said as she bowed her head as well while Kirara as the neko-manta demon meowed in agreement

“It's was alright. Feel free to come back anytime,” Larina said waving good bye as she turned her head down to her daughter who was behind her, “Isn't there something that you want to say, Tani?”

Tani looked up at her mother nodded as she walked up to InuYasha. Tani blushed again. She couldn't exactly find the words that she wanted to say as she shyly looked away while scratching her head.

InuYasha could already tell what she wanted to say, “Don't mention it kid, He then replied with a smirk.

Tani smiled and nodded.

“We'll see you guys later,” Kagome said waving good bye as she grabbed a hold of her bike.

“So long,” Shippo said as he hopped onto Kagome's shoulder.

“Good luck to you,” Miroku encouraged.

With that, InuYasha and his friends were off as they made their way out of the village which they had stayed in paying no attention to the other villagers who were working on their garden.

Bye,” Tani said waving goodbye to them, “come back anytime.

Hmm… there was some strong spiritual powers in that oddly dressed girl. They are yet so young on they're journey. Best wishes to them all.” Larina thought observing Kagome and her oddly clothes as she watched them walk away.

----

“That little half demon seemed pretty fond of you, InuYasha.” Sango stated.

“She seems so sweet too.” Miroku added.

“I'll say, I wish the best for them both; Tani and her mother.” Kagome said.

“I second that.” Shippo agreed, “Seeing how Tani is also a half demon, her life doesn't seem easy for her,”

InuYasha stayed quiet thinking about the simusho that died out on him which could've lead him to Naraku's castle.

“InuYasha?” Kagome said breaking his train of thought.

“Huh?” InuYasha asked snapping back to the real world.

“What did you think about Tani?” Kagome asked.

“She's alright, I'm sure she can handle herself, the bullies won't be picking on her for a while, like I said before; I made sure of it that the kids bother her again. But even if they did, she can handle herself I'm sure of it,” InuYasha replied.

“Heaven forbid if Tani ever ends up like you, InuYasha,” Sango teased.

Miroku along with Kagome and Shippo couldn't help but laugh of at that comment.

InuYasha pulled a smug face in response, “Very funny,” he replied, “Can we just be serious for once? Like the fact that the stupid bug died out on me. I could've tracked it down and found Naraku's castle.” InuYasha said changing the subject.

InuYasha's friends stopped laughing as they got serious to the new topic that InuYasha brought up.

Yes, that is such a shame how the simusho just died out on you like that,” Miroku commented.

“Its sucks is what is it… how are we going to track down Naraku now without any leads?” InuYasha asked, expecting a response from Miroku.

Well frankly, I suggest that we should forget about Naraku for now and just go and search for the sacred jewel shards.” Miroku suggested. “If we can't find any leads on him, then we might as well just be collecting more jewel shards.

“That could work. Seeing how greedy Naraku can be, he'll eventually come after us and try to get a hold the jewel shards that we have in our possession.” Sango said, “It's not like he hasn't tried that before.

“Yeah, but the problem is that I can't sense any right now…where would we start to look?” Kagome said as she dug into her pocket to bring out the case where she kept the jewel shards in, to look at them.“Japanis such a large place to search for suchsmall fragments, especiallywhen there are so many humansand demons searchingfor themas well in order to gain more power.” She thought. “Naraku is such a despicable demon. We all have reasons for hunting him down;Miroku's wind tunnel, Sango's little brotherKohaku, and her village, and InuYasha seeking to get his revengeon Naraku who tore him and Kikyo apart. Do hunt that demon Naraku down…”

“So what do you want to do now?” Miroku asked, breaking Kagome's train of thought.

“Well we can't just sit around and wait for the jewel to just come to us.” InuYasha said with his arms crossed

I didn't say we should do that,” Miroku said.

We have really limited choices.” Sango stated, “We have no leads on the sacred jewel shards or on Naraku. I'm not suggesting that we should wait for the jewel shards to come to us either, that's just ludicrous.”

“Sango's right InuYasha, what do you suggest that we should do anyway?” Kagome asked.

“Well for once, we can't just sit around, like I said. That's probably what he expects up to do anyway.” InuYasha said. “To attack us the moment we have our guard down.”

“Well none of us are going to give up. None of us are ever going to think that.” Miroku stated. “We've all made up our destiny the moment we met Naraku. Maybe we should continue going village to village to see if there have been rumors of Naraku or maybe his incarnations, any sort of link to him. But, I bet Naraku's where abouts isn't even that far away if he sent out his simusho to spy on us in the first place.”

“If that's the case, he's doing a pretty damn good job hiding his scent.” InuYasha said sniffing around, “because I can't even get a whiff of his stench.”

“And he's doing a good job hiding the jewel shards as well.” Kagome added seeing how she can't even sense the jewel shards.

“Naraku isn't foolish. He's a pretty clever foe.” Shippo stated.

“That's just the problem…” Sango pointed out, “… he's too clever.”

Kagome couldn't help but nod at Sango's statement, Far too clever…”
