Kikyo had just said her last goodbyes to a village as she started to make her way, continuing on her lonely journey as a resurrected priestess only to have soul collectors to accompany her. Kikyo had gone through a forest not knowing what had awaited her. As she continued through the forest, the dead priestess had sensed something watching over her. It was not Naraku; Kikyo knew that it wasn't him. Kikyo still continued to walk through the forest which lead her to an open field. The wind started to blow from behind which made Kikyo's hair flow gently in the breeze as the clouds grew dark which made them ominous looking.
“Who are you? And what do you want with me?” Kikyo asked the creature that was watching her.
The breeze soon stopped which caused dead silence. But the only sound that you could hear was the sound of heavy breathing from behind. Kikyo took out her bow and arrow and turned she faced the arrow in the little demon's direction. The child showed no sign of fear.
“Did Naraku send you to kill me?” Kikyo said as she slowly put don't her arrow.
“Kikyo….” She growled. A mark shaped like a star went over her left eye as she slowly shifted her body to a fighting stance. Her silvery, white hair was all spiky and her eyes were as dark as the ocean. “You are, the one you resemble the girl in strange clothes… who came to my village a while back… you are the one that must… perish. Prepare to die…” her raspy voice warned.
And with that the demon jumped up in the air and threw her small star like swift attack. Kikyo simply dodged the attack as she hid behind a tree.
“I am not going to kill a child; I'm not reduced to doing such a thing. This is simply Naraku's way of trying to kill me. The child has the sacred jewel in her possession which is causing her to act like this, I'm sure, but am I supposed to defeat one such as that?” Kikyo peered out of the tree. “I may have to try and take the jewel away from her.”
The demon child laughed as her lips curled to an evil grin, “Naraku… didn't summon me here; I came here on my own will to destroy you. You were… responsible for my misery and now you must pay.” She said continuing to breathe heavily.
“I've never met you before, why would you simply want to harm me?” Kikyo wanted to know as she took a step forward. “You are just a child.” Kikyo told the demon child, “Naraku is slowly robbing away your innocence.”
“I go by the name of Tani,” she said, “I was born with that name and I've had enough of this chit chat,” the half demon child formed a small energy fire ball and threw it directly at Kikyo.
The fireball which seemed so small had had a huge affect on the ground as it caused Kikyo scream, flying that made her land hard on the ground.
The half demon grinned and soon took flight to the sky. Thinking quick, Kikyo brought out her bow and arrow and tried to shoot it at the Tani. But a few demons flown up and got purified instead of Tani. Kikyo looked up to see that Tani was being protected by the demons, as if the demons were a barrier for her. Kikyo fired another arrow but it was no use as more demons came up and took the attack.
“Heh,” Tani scoffed as her skin grew dark, “is that all you got, Priestess?” Tani sneered as she sat in the sky. She then closed her eyes and began to meditate she waved hand in a circular motion; she was forming another attack. Tani shot opened her eyes, “MOON CRIFTER!” she flung it as the devastating sun like attack hit the ground and went deep within the earth which cause a bit of an earthquake sending Kikyo flying once more.
Kikyo hit the ground pretty hard once again with a loud thud. Kikyo's body was getting weak as souls were coming out of it from her fall. Kikyo could barely keep her eyes open as she watched her souls leave her artificial body, “The souls are…leaving me…” she stated weakly as she tried to get up.
Tani eyes went dark purple as she snickered at the weak priestess, “You… are one of the… dead. So it should be easy to finish you off… right now.”
Kikyo watched Tani slowly landed having her feet touch the ground gently as she snickered evilly bringing out her claws. Her heart beat thumped heavier and heavier as if she was changing from the inside too. Tani was no longer a half demon. Tani's hair was spiked up with colored streaks in it, her eyes piercing purple and her fangs developing, primary colored marks were now covering her face that was shaped as a stars and the sun. Her demon nature had been awakened as the sacred Shikon Jewel turned black.
----
Sango and Miroku had been riding on Kirara's back taking a flight through the grey like sky searching around to see if they could find Naraku's where abouts or Tani. It had seemed very quiet for a few moments as Kirara soared through the air.
Sango began to speak, choosing to break the silence, “Miroku…” Sango started.
Miroku, who sat behind Sango, looked up giving her his full attention.
“I-InuYasha seemed a little tense earlier,” She said softly with a lot of concern in her voice.
“Hmm… I know what you mean… he was probably thinking about his past when the villagers were speaking ill of Tani.” Miroku began, “He must have taken a glimpse of his own past. He was most likely treated the same way as Tani still is, where ever she is.”
“It's so sad… how people can treat a child like that,” Sango trailed off.
“I know,” He agreed, “And to make things worse for Tani, her mother was killed by Naraku, who else will take care of her now?”
“Naraku is completely unforgivable,” Sango said bitterly. A flashback came to her mind as she had witnessed her fellow friends and her father getting slain by her very own younger brother, Kohaku. Sango just shook off the terrible memory as she continued to look ahead.
Miroku thought hard of something, trying to figure out what Naraku was really up too and what his purpose was for killing Tani's mother. And then suddenly, the monk had developed a theory. “I'm started to get the feeling that Naraku isn't after us this time,”
At that moment, as if on cue, Kirara growled which caught Miroku and Sango's attention.
“Whats the matter Kirara?” Sango asked.
Kirara growled as a response as she flew down and landed in a deep forest. Miroku and Sango got off of Kirara's back looking around.
“Why did you bring us here Kirara?” Miroku asked.
Kirara purred as she lifted her head to point the direction that she was facing. Sango looked to the direction to where Kirara was looking and there she saw a young boy who had the same armor as to what Sango was wearing. In an instant, she knew it was her younger brother Kohaku up ahead on a tree as her heart skipped a beat.
“…K-Kohaku…?” Sango murmured out as she took a step closer to see if it really was her younger brother.
Miroku caught up with what she said as he looked around the forest. He couldn't see Kohaku anywhere. “Kohaku is around here?” Miroku then slowly followed Sango's direction as he too lifted his head to see a young boy in the same but a green version of Sango's pink demon slayer outfit.
“Kohaku!” Sango called out as a tear fell out her eye.
The young boy Kohaku turned his head to see Sango in shock realizing that he had been discovered. In response he quickly turned around and made a run for it. Sango reacted quickly as she began to chase after her one and only brother.
“Sango! Wait! Don't go!” Miroku said running after her as well as Kirara.
-----
Meanwhile, InuYasha was running quick speed as he jumped and soared through the air watching from below in hopes to find any where abouts of Naraku or even Tani.
Kagome, who was riding on his back along with Shippo, had noticed that InuYasha hadn't spoke since he last instructed Sango on what to do. Kagome was started to feel sympathy as Shippo sensed the same tension that InuYasha was having.
“…InuYasha-,”
“Don't even,” InuYasha cut her off. “I don't need your sympathy, same crap happened to me a long time ago when I was just a kid. I know what you're thinking, about Tani and how she was being treated. Don't give me any sympathy, I don't need it.”
“But… InuYasha…” Kagome said sympathetically. InuYasha didn't respond, “Thememories hurt himso badly, he doesn't want to talk about it.” Kagome thought as she soon felt something coming below them that caused her to gasp.
“You sense the jewel shards?” InuYasha asked turning his head.
“Yeah,” Kagome responded with a nod, “I can sense it all right. But… it's not even a shard…” Kagome paused a bit, “I… I think it's the jewel that Naraku has in his possession.”
“You sure about that Kagome?” Shippo asked leaning forward to Kagome.
“Positive, I'm sure of it.”
“Which way?” InuYasha asked.
Kagome pointed forward, “That way, you have to go down InuYasha.”
InuYasha had tried his best to make himself land quickly on the ground. But when he did, he landed on something sharp which stung him like a bee.
“Ow! Damnit!” He yelped as he fell back on his bum which caused Kagome to fall of his back that caused Shippo to fall of Kagome's back.
“Whats the matter?” They both said in unison as the checked on InuYasha.
InuYasha brought out his right foot still flinching from the pinch in his foot. There, on his foot, was a little small like ornament that was jabbing into InuYasha's foot. Shippo moved closer to get a better look as he pulled it out of InuYasha's foot.
“Ow! Damnit Shippo!” InuYasha yelped as he boxed Shippo directly on the head to take out his frustration.
Shippo received a small lump to his head. “Ow! InuYasha! What did you do that for? You should be grateful that I pulled out the stupid thing.” Shippo said rubbing his head to soothe the pain.
“InuYasha, that really wasn't necessary,” Kagome said. She then turned to look at to what Shippo was holding as the small ornament began glow with darkness around it. Kagome kneeled down to Shippo's level as she took the strange necklace from his small hands. “Wow,” Kagome awed, “This is beautiful, but what is it?”
“It's got a half moon and half a sun, together,” Shippo stated, “and it looks like some kind of ornament.”
Kagome took a closer look at it. “I think you're right.”
“Is that what I stepped on?” InuYasha said getting up as he brushed the dirt off his clothes.
Kagome turned to look at InuYasha. “Are you going to be okay?”
“Huh,” InuYasha snuffed arrogantly, “I'll live, nothing serious.” He said as he folded his arms.
Kagome continued to stare at the beautiful half moon, half sun ornament wondering where it came from. “I've seen this somewhere before, I just don't know where…” she said as she looked up at InuYasha; she had an idea, “InuYasha?”
InuYasha turned his head down to Kagome, “Yeah, what is it?”
“Can you smell this for me?” Kagome asked, bring out the ornament.
“Huh?”
Shippo gave Kagome a quizzical glance, “What do you want him to smell it for Kagome?” he asked.
InuYasha twisted up his face in confusion. “Shippo's right, we have no time for sniffing ridiculous items we find on the ground. We have to track the fiend who has the jewel shards.”
Kagome brought the necklace closer to InuYasha's nose. “Come on, just a whiff?”
“Fine,” InuYasha relented as he leaned closer and began to sniff it. He then slowly began to recognize the scent as he continued to sniff it, “I know this sent…” He continued to sniff some more.
“Well InuYasha?” Kagome, still kneeling, asked looking up at InuYasha.
“Do you recognize the smell?” Shippo asked as he jumped and landed on InuYasha's shoulder.
InuYasha sniffed one more time until he was sure who the scent belonged too, “It's Tani's!” He stated, “But, she can't be here; I smell that of a demon up ahead. But… now I can smell the scent of dead body and graveyard soil.”
“So what could that mean?” Shippo asked.
Kagome gasped as she realized. “Naraku isn't after us…”
“He's after Kikyo…”
------
“It's that girl again,” Kohaku thought as he tried to get away from the girl who was chasing after him,“the girl that keeps running through my mind. I can't get her out of my head. Why is it that every time that Naraku sends me on a mission, I always see up with her? How irritating!”
“Kohaku!” Sango called still chasing after him, “It's me Sango! You're still under Naraku's control! Please don't leave me again!” She pleaded. “Damnit, Kohaku! Snap out of it!”
Kohaku turned as he threw his Kusari-gama, his weapon, at his older sister. But Sango was quick as she blocked it Kohaku's weapon with her giant boomerang, her Hiraikotsu.
Kohaku pulled the chain of his Kusari-gama catching it with his other hand and jumping up onto a tree landing on a tree branch.
Sango stopped running as she watched her brother jump into a tree watching the leaves fall out of it “Kohaku!” she called.
“Why do you choose to stalk me every time we meet?” Kohaku asked, “Stop following me! I don't want to have to hurt her…” He added silently.
The woman that stood before him had so much hurt in her eyes, “Kohaku, you don't have to run away anymore, you don't have to be afraid.” She told him, “You're under Naraku's spell! Please! You don't have to run anymore! You can come home!”
Kohaku held a tighter grip of his Kusari-gama. “What if I don't want to remember?”
Sango stepped closer as Kohaku stepped back, closer to the tree itself cautiously.
“Kohaku…please,” Sango said. “I'm here for you; I'm your sister I'll always be here for you, you're my little brother…”
Kohaku didn't know what to do, “P-please, don't follow me anymore miss; I may have to kill you if you continue to follow me and I-I… don't want to hurt you.”
Sango didn't care what he did; she wanted to be with her younger brother he was all she had left since her father and her kin were killed by Kohaku through Naraku's manipulation. She refused to listen to his warning as she stayed closer.
“STAY AWAY!!”
Just at that moment, a gust of wind came between them as Sango backed away shielding her face with her arms from the strong wind that broker her and her brother apart. Through her arms she could see Kagura taking Kohaku away.
“Damn, not again!” Sango cursed, “Kohaku! Kohaku!!!” She called out as she gritted her teeth with rage as she watched her enemy, Kagura take her younger brother away. And just like that, Kagura was gone, taking Kohaku with her.
Miroku and Kirara had finally caught up to Sango following her sad gaze as she watched her brother disappear from her sight once again, “I'm sorry Sango.” Miroku said sympathetically as he rested his hand on Sango's shoulder.
Sango smiled weakly appreciating Miroku's sympathy, “It's alright; I'm glad that I saw him, well and alive.” Sango responded
“Maybe we should follow them to see where they would head.” Miroku suggested
Sango turned to Miroku and nodded as them both hopped onto Kirara's back and the feline demon took off.
-----
Kagura had been riding on her large feather with Kohaku behind her, “Kohaku,” she began, “you shouldn't be so careless. Make sure they don't follow you. InuYasha can track your scent and Kagome can sense your jewel shard, remember that other wise you won't live much longer.” She ordered.
“Forgive me; I'll never let something so foolish happen again.” Kohaku promised. He looked down and saw the last of the woman as they flew off on Kagura's feather to find Tani.
-----
“You mustn't kill me,” Kikyo said with all her strength, “you have it all wrong. I did not kill your mother. You have to realize that Naraku has deceived you. He's taking advantage of your powers… you have to realize that Naraku is your real enemy. He's the one that killed your mother to gain more power over you.” Kikyo tried to explain and then suddenly, she had an epiphany. “Now I understand she's a half demon sprite. Those are the most fearful demons in the land they are devils on land. Her demon father must've been a demon sprite. They attack every hundred years once their demonic powers have been awaken. Every hundred years a gifted one is born with the power that's not of this world. This young girl must've been the gifted one. So that's why Naraku need her to take advantage over her power, she's strong enough to take on a priestess such as myself. Her mother was a priestess when she died so this girl knows every tactic a priestess has.”
Tani's face had grown dark her voice was dark and raspy as the devil himself. She was the most fearful creature you would ever dare to see for a child. Horns came out of her head and wings began to come out of her back. Her claws had gotten longer as her fang grown longer as well.
“Despicable priestess,” the demon sprite spat, “how dare you tell me such fairy tales? I truly hope to see you in hell, Kikyo. Send you back from where you belong.” Tani grinned evilly as she brought out her hand. “This fire is from the sun itself, and it's as hard as the moon.”
The surrounding flames of her attack were so powerful that it had burnt off the soul collectors that were trying to give Kikyo the souls.
“So long, Kikyo…”
Tani was close to throwing her attack but something was stopping her to do so. For some reason, Kikyo sort of reminded Tani of her mother the way she was before she was dying. Tani froze as she tried to end Kikyo's miserable life but her human side wouldn't let her.
“Don't do it! Don't kill her! You're no better than the demon that killed mother!” Tani's human said begged.
“Rrraugh!! Shut up!” Tani yelled trying to cover her ears, “Go away! She's got it coming! I refuse to let my human emotions get to me! I've become a demon now! I don't need my human weak side! Go away!”
Kikyo struggled to get up wondering what was going on with the half demon who stood infront of her, “She'smust be arguingwith herself,” Kikyo thought,“she must be arguing with her human side…”
“Aaaruagh! I've heard enough of this!” Tani yelled, “Humans never accepted me for who I was! I never chose to be born this way! Demons are no different! However as a demon I'm a lot stronger than a half demon! And with this power, I will get my revenge. I don't need anyone! NOW DIE!” Tani threw her attack as she watched it fall in Kikyo's direction. Tani laughed as she watched her attack reach closer and closer to the priestess.
Suddenly, out of no where, a familiar like monk had dropped down from the sky and landed as he rushed in to get Kikyo out of the way before the blast could hit the ground. But since the blast was so strong, the affect of the blast caused the monk flying still holding Kikyo as the both landed on the ground hard.
“Oooh…” He groaned from the pain of his buttocks, “It's a good thing we followed Kohaku or Kikyo would've been done for.” The monk told himself still holding the unconscious Kikyo as he got up and looked up at the demon.
Kirara dropped down as Sango hopped off of the feline's back. “Are you alright Miroku?” Sango asked running up to him, “That blast was devastating.”
Miroku nodded. “I'm fine, but it's a good thing we came here when we did.”
“I know what you mean, Kikyo would've been done for, for sure, by that demon,” Sango said as she looked up at the demon child.
Soon, at just that moment, InuYasha came out of the forest and landed only to see the destruction of the land that was caused by a demon that was up in the air. Kagome, with Shippo on her back had finally caught up to InuYasha as she followed his gaze.
“Look Kagome, Miroku and Sango are with Kikyo!” Shippo stated.
“Your right, but I'm glad that they're safe,” Kagome agreed.
InuYasha looked up at the little demon and saw her evil grin and then looked up ahead and saw Miroku holding Kikyo; she was safe. “Miroku I owe ya one.” InuYasha told Miroku.
Miroku responded with a nod.
InuYasha's relieved smiled disappeared as he growled and focused his attention to towards the demon that was in the air, “You…” he growled.
“Heh, InuYasha,” Tani said. “I would have killed her off too, if it wasn't for that monk and the demon slayer.” Tani said following InuYasha's glance and then turned back to InuYasha. She then looked at the sun realizing it was going to be the evening soon. “Before sundown you'll all be dead, I promise you that.”
“InuYasha, there is a sacred jewel in her chest. It's been tainted.” Kagome said told him.
“This is the demon who has it? A demon brat?” InuYasha asked Kagome.
“I can see it glowing,” Kagome responded.
“Hey, little witch,” InuYasha yelled, “where did you get the jewel?” he demanded with a sniff hoping to sniff our Tani somewhere. “I can't smell Tani anywhere...”
“Who are you to call little witch?” She scowled, “Naraku gave it to me. He said it will help me kill the priestess, if you must know.”
InuYasha sniffed again, “Who are you? Are you one of Naraku's incarnations?” he demanded.
At just that moment, the necklace that Kagome was holding slowing began to pulse which made Kagome to gasp from the shock. Kagome looked down at the object and then looked up at the demon girl. Kagome then at that moment realized who it was as she gasped again.
“Of course! This necklace that InuYasha had stepped on earlier belongs to Tani! That's where I've seen this before!” Thinking back the last time Kagome had seen Tani's innocent half demon state, face.
“What's wrong Kagome?” Shippo asked who was on her shoulder.
Kagome didn't respond to Shippo as she tried the message across to InuYasha, “InuYasha,” Kagome called out “I think that's demon child is Tani!”
“What? It couldn't be,” InuYasha said in disbelief, “I smell that of afull demon. It couldn't be her.”
“Did you just say Tani?” Sango said overhearing of what Kagome had told InuYasha.
Kikyo lifted her head as she tried to explain the situation, “She… thought that I was the one that killed her… mother. Naraku must've told her all these lies for her to come after me…”
“What was that?” InuYasha asked in rage as he clenched his fist, “I… knew it. Naraku was trying get rid of Kikyo this whole time. But, I still don't understand how Tani could've been any use of him anyway she's just a kid.” he said. “He must've known I wouldn't be able to kill the girl. The bastard.”
“It doesn't matter who I am. You'll all be done before sundown, I promise you that.” Tani said as she brought out her claws and flew up higher in through the sky. Her claws started glow flames around it. “First off I'll finish off the priestesses.”
InuYasha growled as he turned to Miroku, before he spoke, Kagome interrupted InuYasha and spoke for him, “Miroku,” Kagome called, “You need to get Kikyo away from here!” Kagome called out.
InuYasha stood there in shock to hear what Kagome had ordered to do. She basically took the words right out of his mouth.
Kagome tried not to give InuYasha any eye contact. She didn't want to see the hurt in her eyes, “InuYasha would never forgive himself if Kikyo got hurt. I need to get Tani back to her half demon state.”
“She's right Miroku; get her far away from here.” Sango said.
“But…” Miroku started.
“It's Naraku's doing, he's probably telling her to finish us off.” InuYasha informed the group, “And I whats messed up is that I can't use my Tetsusaiga, damn… I refuse to run, not when I'm this close to finding Naraku.”
“Kagome, we need to do something before Tani tries to kill anyone. She's starting to loose all reasons like InuYasha did when he was in his demon state.” Shippo said clutching onto her clothes.
“You're right but how are we going to do that? It's not going to be easy…”
Tani suddenly then charged flying down to the ground as she brought out her claws and hit the ground causing the Earth to quake as now, everyone was trapped in the ring of fire including Kagome and Kikyo as Tani flew back up.
InuYasha was able to jump out of the firewall thanks to his kimono which was made from the cloth of the fire rat. “If you think these flames are going to hurt me then, you are wrong and mistaken kid!”
Tani chuckled. “You might've gotten out alive but what about your friends?” she continued to chuckle as the jewel shards made her become stronger. “I have the option of burning them alive if I want to surly, InuYasha.”
InuYasha felt a sweat go down his back, he didn't know what to do, “Kagome, Kikyo! Are you alright?” InuYasha called he turned to face the firewall. There was no response. InuYasha growled and then realized that he had to take Tani down in order to get rid of the firewall. “Damnit kid, snap out of it!” InuYasha said trying to grab a hold of Tani but Tani was able to dodge his grip as she flew up in the air again.
Tani smirked as she grabbed a hold of her star that she wore on her hair and then threw her star shaped head wear to InuYasha which scratched his face as the star came back to Tani like a boomerang.
“Excellent work Tani…” A familiar evil voice encouraged within the demon child's mind, “now… finish them, make them suffer the way your mother did, destroy them all especially the priestess which sent your motherto the netherworld.”
“The flames are just too much,” Sango said backing away from the flames.
“There is no way to get out of here!” Shippo said in panic, “This is it, isn't it?”
“Don't give up just yet,” Miroku told Shippo, as he placed Kikyo on his back.
“Miroku's right. There has got to be a way to get out of this place,” Kagome said she looked at the necklace that she was still holding glowed again and then at he bow and arrows that she had. “Maybe there is!”she had an idea.
Tani brought both her hands and faced out her front palms towards InuYasha, “Burn in hell!” She yelled as she was about to unleash a devastating like attack again until suddenly, Tani felt a painful pulse in her heart which dispersed the attack that she was about to unleash. Tani clutched onto it and started to yelp in pain.
The firewall barrier that Tani had put up to imprison InuYasha's friends had begun to weaken as that too eventually dispersed.
“What the hell…?” InuYasha wondered in confusion, “Whats wrong with her?”
“InuYasha!” The half demon heard Kagome call.
“What happened?” InuYasha responded.
“I purified her necklace, or at least I tried.” Kagome said running up to him along with Sango.
“It looks like it's done some affect on her.” Sango said looking up at the demon that seemed to be in a lot of pain.
Tani was quiet up in the sky for a moment as she then began to fall from the sky, “InuYasha, she's falling!” Kagome pointed.
InuYasha then ran, jumped up to catch the demon child who was falling from the sky. He then landed on the ground as his friends, including Miroku who had the unconscious Kikyo on his back came up to him. The gang studied Tani's terrifying appearance…it was strange…
“What's going on?” Sango wondered.
“I know what you mean,” Miroku agreed with a nod.
“Yeah, Tani didn't go back to her half demon state,” InuYasha stated, still holding the child.
“That's strange, but why?” Kagome wondered looking at InuYasha for a response.
At that moment Tani shot opened her eye and clawed Kagome's arm that had a hold of the necklace. Kagome fell on the ground on her back as she winced in pain as blood soon came out of her arm that Tani attacked, holding onto her arm and still holding onto the necklace.
“Kagome,” Kagome's friends gasped as InuYasha quickly rushed to her side.
Everyone gasped in shock as Tani jumped back and flew back into the air once again. “Try that again priestess, I dare you.” She growled.
“Are you alright Kagome?” InuYasha asked with so much concern in his voice.
Kagome winced in pain before she could answer, “its not serious it could've been worse.” She replied still holding onto her arm.
InuYasha growled as he turned to the demon. “You, you tried to hurt Kagome.”
Tani snickered, “trust me, listen to what the girl said, it could've been much worst, for all we know if I was born a full demon I would've slit her through no problem, I would not regret it in the very least.” She brought her now bloody claws out again. “Now die!”
There was then another pulse in Tani's body once again that caused her to stop her movement. Only this time it wasn't because Kagome tried to purify her necklace it was because… of the sun. It was setting down on her.
Tani cried in pain as she clutched onto her heart once more, “No! Not now!” her raspy voice yelped, “The sun it's setting!”
