+In Kaede's Hut+

Inuyasha sat by Kagome's side, watching her closely. It had been two days since the battle, and she had yet to waken up. Miroku had said that it was because her human and demonic bloods were battling it out inside her, trying to find a balance between the two in her body. Although the explination was a good one, it didnt do much to calm Inuyasha's nerves.

'I should have been protecting her...'. That was the most common thought in his head. 'She trusted me to always be there...and I did nothing...I should have broken that damned barrier..'. His friends had saw the haunted looks on his face when he looked at Kagome, and they tried to talk to him. "Kagome made it impossible for you to get to her, Inuyasha. She wanted to protect you, US!" Sango always told him, but still, the haunted looks never left his face.

Now, two days later from the battle, Inuyasha's anxiety was growing worse. He barley left Kagome's side, only leaving for a bath, which everyone had practically FORCED him to go to. He ate, but not much, and sleep was out of the question.

"Inuyasha," Miroku gently said. "Beating yourself up mentally and never leaving the hut isnt going to help Kagome. You need to get out. Get some fresh air. Help us with the construction! SOMETHING!" The construction he spoke of was on some of the huts that had been damanged in the fighting. Inuyasha knew he should be helping, but the moment he left the hut, he felt uneasy.

"Yea yea..." Inuyasha grumbled. He stood up and walked twards the door of the hut. He pulled back the curtain, but before leaving he took one last glance at Kagome. 'Please be okay...please...dont leave...dont leave me...'. Inuyasha felt stupid for thinking such things, knowing he was growing weak emotionally, and it scared him. "Damn it." He muttered under his breath. "Whats that Inuyasha?" Miroku asked. "Feh. Nothing monk." Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest and walked over to a group of villagers who needed some assistance.

+ That Night..+

Everyone stood around the fire pit, eating some dinner Inuyasha had hunted down. It didnt feel right eating the food Kagome brought without her being able to eat it too.

Inuyasha took his usual spot near Kagome. She layed in the corner of the room, and he leaned against the wall closest to her. He had ate a little bit, but not as much as he usually did, which only worried the others, not that they werent worried enough about Kagome.

"Inuyasha, are you sure you dont want anything else?" Sango asked, trying to put a little cheer in her voice. "No." Inuyasha grumbled. He knew Sango was trying to lift the air in the room, but he just wasnt in the mood. "Inuyasha, ye need to eat. Starving yourself wont help Kagome." Kaede said as she walked over to him and Kagome. Kaede leaned over Kagome and check her pulse and a couple of her less serious wounds, not really wanting to have to unwrap the more serious one in her stomache. "Ill have to change those bandages tomorrow." She said, more to herself than anyone. Inuyasha just nodded.

"Shes getting better." Kaede said, answering the many questions in everyone's mind.

"When will she wake up?" Shippo asked. Before the battle, he had been playing with some of the village kids, and when they were whisked away to saftey, they brought him along with them. His nose told him that Kagome, was indeed, getting much better. But he needed to hear it from someone else.

"By the looks of it, she could wake up at any moment. Its just up to her." Kaede said with a slight smile. "Up to her?" Inuyasha asked, not lifting his head, but still looking at Kaede.

"Aye." Kaede nodded. "This kind of 'sleep' isnt so much sleep. Her blood is still battling itself, yes. When her blood finds the balance, she can control when she wakes up. But any anxiety or negative emotion can delay her awakening."

Inuyasha suddenly felt his heart sink. "What...are..you talking..about?" He finally got out.

"Kikyo." Miroku simply stated. Kaede looked at them in confusion.

"Kagome...well..Ohyaku..Kagome..she..she got the missing piece of her soul." Sango managed, not knowing how to break it to Kaede, who just nodded and said "As it should be." She left the hut, going to check on the village before going to sleep.

'Kagome...' Inuyasha stared at her with a new found saddness in his eyes.

"Inuyasha, do not blame yourself-" Miroku started.

"ITS MY FAULT! SHE DOESNT WANT TO FACE ME!" He screamed, not caring anymore what emotions he showed.

Shippo jumped up once he yelled, and ran to hide behind Sango, who had also been startled by his rant.

"SHE DOESNT WANT TO FACE ME! THAT IS MY FAULT! IF I HADNT ALWAYS BEEN RUNNING OFF FOR KIKYO, MAYBE SHE WOULDNT BE LIKE THIS!" He was now stomping twards the door, about to leave when Miroku spoke again. "Inuyasha, you cant do this to yourself! It isnt healthy! This is Kagome's choice! This was all her choice! She put up the barrier to protect us, not to hurt you! SHE WOULDNT WANT THIS!" Miroku found himself now screaming, but he instantly regreted it, knowing it wouldnt make things better. But before he could apollogize, Inuyasha left the hut, running off into his forest.

"Just leave him be. Hes finally out of the hut." Sango said, and she layed down on her cot and tried to fall asleep. Miroku nodded, and took his spot in the corner, and tried to find sleep himself.

+In the forest+

Inuyasha stomped through the forest, litterally. He pounded his feet so hard into the ground, he felt a rock go into his foot, and break the skin. "OW! FUCKING ROCK!" He picked it up and hauled it in a random direction.

He fell to the ground, and began to punch his fists into it. "DANMIT! FUCK! SHIT! FUCK!" He screamed random curses out to no one, and continued to let the forest floor feel his wrath through his punches.

'IM SUCH AN ASS!'. He couldnt have felt any lower in his life than he did at that moment. 'Im the reason she wont wake up...she...wont wake up.' Everything he had been holding inside came out in a rush, overwhelming him.

'Kagome...'

+ About a hour later +

Inuyasha returned to the hut to find everyone asleep. He looked at Kagome.

She was looking much better than she had been two days ago. The color returned to her cheeks, which had been extremly pale for a while. Her breathing was more steady, having it been deep and slow before.

He walked over to her, and instead of just sitting down, he layed down next to her, and scooted as close to her as he would permit himself. He layed his head right next to her though, and began to talk to her, in a low voice he knew only another hanyou could hear.

"Kagome, please wake up. Im not mad at you or anything like that. Dont worry about Kikyo. What you did would have had to be done eventually. Kagome, please. Im begging you. Wake up..." His eyes became heavy, and he let himself fall asleep, subconsiously breathing in the scent he loved so much.

+ Very early that morning +

The sun was just coming over the horizion, Inuyasha opened his eyes slightly to see this out of a small gap between the door frame and the sheet that covered it. He was still very tired and went to shift a little before going back to sleep, but as he moved, he felt a slight weight on his shoulder.

He looked down to see that Kagome's head was now resting on his shoulder, and her body was slightly turned twards him. He looked at her face, which was more peaceful than it was before, making him relize this was a pure sleep, not a mental-consious-induced sleep. He nuzzeled a little closer to her, and breathed in deeply. Her sent has slightly changed, but not enough that it still couldnt relax him into another deep sleep.
