The thorns which I have reap'd are of the tree I planted;
they have torn me, and I bleed.
I should have known what fruit would spring
from such a seed.

Kouga slumped down into the only chair in his small, windowless chamber. One chair, a cot of straw for a bed, and Ayame to keep him warm, that's all he really needed. That's all they allowed him. He gazed at Ayame as she hurried over with a bowl of hat water and a washcloth, placing the warm wet fabric onto the deep gash across his chest. At some point in his soul probing the spirit had lost control and attacked him, which seemed rather odd because the guy seemed friendly.

“He must have suffered an enormous betrayal in his lifetime, where were you in his memories?” Ayame asked, trying to stop the bleeding, he was loosing blood by the cupfuls; if it didn't stop they would have to see Urasue and get it bandaged.

“Somewhere in the end of his lifetime, I think. There was a painted sign in the memories that said Crystal ball; I'm guessing that's the name for the winter ball at Crystal High, the local school.”

“So maybe someone killed him?”

“Maybe, I'll have to look further into it.”

“What?!” The bowl clattered to the floor, spilling the hot liquid over his feet. “Kouga, that man obviously was hurt during that time! He's not an evil spirit so I know he can't be after revenge! Leave him be, you could get hurt again!”

“Ayame, just because he isn't after revenge doesn't mean a thing, what if he made a promise or something during that time…besides,” He smiled down at her. “I'm curious.” It took something really interesting to hold Kouga's attention, so Ayame was a bit surprised by the fact that Kouga had taken interest in such a topic.

The blood had stopped pouring out of his chest so Ayame dropped the now red cotton towel and crawled up into his lap. She smiled and ran her tongue across his lips. “What else are you curios about?” She asked.

His smile widened and his blue eyes grew dark, picking her up he carried her to the cot. “A lot of things,” He said as he draped the wool blanket around them.

Inuyasha struggled against his binds; it was obvious that he had done something wrong. He was surrounded by terrible smelling candles and other things that he could not name, for his eyes were clouded over from the smoke.

He tried to recall what had happened, but there was an enormous pain in the back of his mind. What had happened, where were Kouga and Ayame? How long had he been unconscious?

Suddenly a memory hit him, several actually, in a row. They were foggy, like a memory of a movie, or a mental image you got from reading a book. He remembered doctor's reports and a girl sobbing, apologizing over and over again.

`All my fault' she said. And then they went into the hospital room. The stale smell, the white walls, then the picture of a battered man lying in bed, as white as the sheets. Who was he?

Realization swept over him, he placed all he could remember, all the words he could recall…he tried to understand things… than it came…

Onigumo…

~*~*~*~*

Onigumo was the school's funniest janitor; he laughed with the kids and helped with the dances and plays. He once actually entered into the talent show and sang just so the kids wouldn't feel stupid, though it was kind of hard to feel bad about your own voice with him up there belting it out…

Every school had their social member of the school board, the one that the kids all new and who new almost all the kids. The one that you didn't feel uncomfortable to talk to, the one who you could call on the cell phone and who would come and pick you up if your friends got high or started drinking or if your boyfriend got too “intimate” no questions asked, well he was that one member. And Inuyasha and Kikyou were his favorite students.

If he couldn't get somewhere for a student or didn't know how to help they were there to help `him', help him help them. They were his and he cared about them, especially Kikyou. Now Inuyasha and Kikyou had been going steady for their whole high school life, and were friends for two years before that. They met Onigumo at the high school tour that all junior high school students got at the end of their eighth grade year, and they were immediately close.

From then on he sat with them at lunch and they helped him clean the halls and classrooms after school, they loved to sit on the desks after going through the waist basket and read the notes that the kids had passes around. Onigumo even showed them how to put the torn up ones back together. Then they would all go home separately.

But things changed, after spring break when Kikyou had gone to her grandmothers and Inuyasha the beach, Onigumo had gotten into an accident while driving a drunken senior to his home, his freshmen girlfriend crying in the passenger seat after the boy apparently tried to force himself upon her. She had hit him with a lamp and ran out to a pay phone to call the only number she new at that fearful moment.

She was crying about how he had seamed so kind while Onigumo comforted her, and that's when the boy, who was in the back seat seemingly passed out, came out between them with a pocket knife placed to Onigumo's throat accusing him of “coming onto his girl”. Onigumo, surprised by the boy's sudden movements, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into an oncoming car.

The boy, who was not buckled in…(the stupid bastard), flew threw the windshield and was killed, the girl survived with only a few cuts from the broken windshield, but Onigumo suffered from brain damage when his air bag failed to go off and he hit his head on the steering wheel.

He began hitting on Kikyou and threatening Inuyasha, then after Kikyou turned him down again he threatened he would kill her and Inuyasha. She didn't report him to the principal, or tell Inuyasha for fear that he might get fired. With his injury he wouldn't be able to get a new job for quite some time. Instead she came up with the excuse of playing some practical jokes on him to watch and see what he does. She felt sorry for him…but couldn't help wonder if that was all.

Inuyasha Struggled to keep the image in his mind, everything was going blurry again, but he had to remember, he wanted to remember. All these years the story was one sided, but in this physical appearance, he might…he could recall the events as he truly remembered it.

~*~*~*~*

The storm raged, lightning struck the ground, the trees, and eventually a power line… the rain water poured into the streets, flooding yards and washing away garbage cans, forgotten toys, the occasional bike, and anything else light enough to travel in the stream, but all this was meaningless to the Crystal High School students at the Crystal Ball. The sign outside hanging above the entrance to the auditorium was painted in silver and blue. Underneath the gypsy that served as the schools mascot, painted to look like pigments of light, in small black handwriting was the names Inuyasha & Kikyou, surrounded by a silver heart. The props crew members that made the sign.

The dance music drifted down the halls of the school, the gray lockers shimmering in the dim glow of the ceiling lights. A single janitor was mopping the floors to the beat, while two young juniors hid behind the trashcan watching.

“Look at him!” giggled the girl as the janitor proceeded to twirl his graceful dance partner around the hall.

“Any minute he'll whip out his air guitar and play her a song.” The boy added.

The janitor swept the mop up on its stick while the rope like end fell down to resemble hair and sang to it the slow song that had currently started. The two giggled. Once the song ended he leaned in and whispered to the mop. Of course the two were sitting behind the trashcans and couldn't hear it but they also couldn't contain the bouts of laughter when he leaned in and kissed it, only to turn and start spitting out soup bubbles.

It was lucky for them that another loud fast song came on because they were not being quiet. They laughed so hard that their sides began to hurt so they leaned up against the trash cans waiting for it to subside. Unfortunately they were the trashcans with the wheels on the bottom, the trashcans rolled back and when the boy turned around to grab hold of them he and the girl fell and the cans toppled over.

That's when Onigumo noticed the two. He dropped the mop and turned to face the toppled over trashcans and the two teenagers who lay sprawled out on top of them. His face burned with anger when he saw just who they were.

“Kikyou, Inuyasha! You guys are soooo dead!” he shouted even as the two scrambled away laughing.

They ran through the halls and into the gym were the dance was still going on. It smelled like cheep cologne, perfume, vanilla lotion, sweat, and many other scents that they didn't want to describe. The room was dark except for the random moving beams of light that blinded the dancers should they be unlucky enough to get in its path, and the music was so loud that if you stayed too long you'd go deaf. Still the students danced. Now don't let those old movies get you to believing that just because a disaster happens that these kids are going to stop their mindless movements, they don't care if someone died right in the middle of the floor as long as it wasn't the DJ.

The music stopped and the principal came on talking about how the storm had flooded the streets and that they would be waiting it out. A couple of kids laughed and joked about spending the night at school and scoring with their girlfriends in the bathroom, others were grumbling about their cars and their wonderful new paintjobs. The two in the back, leaning up against the double doors trying to catch their breath, just laughed; thankful for the break in the headache inducing music.

The music started up again

~*~*~*~*

He ran out of the classroom, the lights flickering in the halls of the school as the power came back on. He skidded and slipped on the wet tile, pulling himself off the floor he continued running. He burst through the double doors out into the schoolyard and the pouring rain, he…he…
~*~*~*~*

Pain shot through Inuyasha's head, he couldn't recall anything else, there was this big gap in his mind from when the music started to when he left the classroom. He didn't feel like trusting what his previous memories had revealed to him, so many years had passed, so much anger could have warped his mind. He just wanted the truth…he wanted to know…right now he wanted to feel like everything was ok and that he could be peaceful for a time. Right now, he wanted Kagome…

~*~*~*~*~*~*

So yeah, Kagome is the only thing keeping Inuyasha from going into a total depression right now! But she's not there! And yes, Inuyasha attacked Kouga, but he's better. Ayame made sure of it!

Two updates so soon?! OMG! What's wrong with me? Well, its spring break and I'm bored…so yeah, surprise guests in the next chapter, let's just hope I at least wait a day before I update hmm?

So yeah, see ya!
