The Heart Of A Child

Chapter 1: Rin

Sesshoumaru walked down the disserted alley. He needed to get home fast or his half-brother would lock him out of their apartment.

If he locks the door and goes to bed, I'll kill him in the morning. If only he would find some way to get a place of his own, I wouldn't have to take care of him. It's bad enough that I have to interact with these stupid humans, but I also have to baby him.

Just as he thought this, a noise caught his attention. To him it sounded as if someone was crying. He peaked around the corner to see a small girl dressed in rags curled up next to a motionless object. She was crying, but stopped when she saw Sesshoumaru.

"Who are you," she asked softly.

Sesshoumaru turned away from the girl and continued down the alley. The girl was a human and humans were definitely creatures he didn't want to deal with. He heard footsteps behind him and turned to face the girl. The girl had a hopeful look on her face.

"Please, can you help me?"

"No. I have things that need to be done. I don't have time to help you."

He continued his walk until he came to the apartment complex. As he reached the apartment he lived in a noise caught his attention. He turned again only to see the girl standing just behind him.

"You're the only one who can help me."

Sesshoumaru growled.

I should have known she was following me still. Why can't she just leave me alone? Maybe if I let her stay one night, I can take her to a shelter and get her off my back.

He sighed.

"I'll let you stay here one night, but that's it."

The girl smiled. He turned the door to the apartment and walked in. His half-brother was watching TV on the couch with his girlfriend Kagome.

"Well, Well, Well, look at what the big bad dog brought in."

"Shut up Inu-Yasha."

"I just find it funny that you would bring a human here when you hate them. Besides Sesshoumaru, I didn't even know you had a heart."

"She stays tonight, but first thing in the morning she'll be leaving."

"Sessy, you can be so cruel sometimes," Kagome said as she walked up to the girl.

Inu-Yasha smirked and Sesshoumaru growled.

"Hi, what's your name," Kagome asked.

"Rin, What's yours?"

"Mine is Kagome. Why don't we get you cleaned up and then we can find a place for you to sleep."

With that Kagome picked up the girl and took her to the bathroom. When she closed the door Inu-Yasha turned his attention back on his half-brother.

"Where did you find her?"

"She was in an alley I took to get here faster. She followed me home. I figured I can find somewhere else for her to stay tomorrow."

The two half-brothers sat down and watched the news. After a little while Kagome came out carrying Rin in one of Inu-Yasha's shirts. At the sight of his shirt Inu-Yasha growled.

"Stop it. I'll wash her clothing tonight and tomorrow you can have you shirt back."

Inu-Yasha walked into his room and shut the door. Kagome turned towards Sesshoumaru. He got the message she was giving and retreated to his room. With his sensitive ears he picked up the sound of Kagome telling Rin a story. He scowled and took off his shirt. He then turned off his light but he didn't get into his bed. Instead he opened his window and jumped onto the balcony. The girl was bringing trouble. Kagome probably wasn't going to let her go without a fight. After he saw the light go out signaling that Kagome had gone to bed, Sesshoumaru jumped back to his room and got into bed. After what seemed like forever he finally went to sleep with thoughts of how he would deal with Rin.
