The Heart Of A Child

Chapter 4: Slowly Melting His Heart: Sesshoumaru's Change

Notes: I think I'm going to do a time jump for this chapter. In the first couple of chapters, Rin was about 7 years old. In the time jump, she'll be about twelve. Kagome & Inu-Yasha are also married by this time. (I think I'm going to have them still live in Sesshoumaru's apartment. Kagome is working & Inu-Yasha is finally going to school & working.) Sesshoumaru has also accepted Rin into his `family' & in this chapter he's not quite himself. He's a little happier, but I promise he'll revert back into the old Sesshoumaru by next chapter.

Sesshoumaru sat at his desk. He had nothing to do at work since half the company was ahead on everything that needed to be done, including his department. So he decided that he would pay some of the bills.

"Hey Sess," Andrew Jenkins called.

"What is it?"

"You've got a phone call on line two."

Sesshoumaru picked up the phone.

"Hello"

"Hey Fluffy,"

Sesshoumaru cringed at his nickname.

"Hello Rin."

"I was wondering if I could go to the movies tonight with Arashi & Mizu."

"Why are you asking me? Why don't you ask Kagome & Inu-Yasha."

"There not home & I don't know how to get a hold of them."

It was a lie. Sesshoumaru knew that Kagome left emergency phone numbers by the phone for her teenage `daughter.' Sesshoumaru also knew that if she called Inu-Yasha, he would tell her to ask Kagome & Kagome would say no. Sesshoumaru decided to have a little fun.

"OK, on one condition."

"What?"

"You can't call me Fluffy anymore."

"OK"

That was a lie as well. He knew that Rin would never stop her antics.

"Just be sure your back by your curfew or Kagome will have a fit."

"I will be. I don't need to be grounded again."

Sesshoumaru remember Rin getting in trouble. She had gone to a party & had gotten home a half-hour past her curfew. Kagome was so mad that she told Rin that she was grounded for a month. It only lasted a week.

"All right Sessy, see you tonight. Bye!"

"Bye Rin."

With that he hung up.

"What was that all about," Andrew asked.

"More payback against my half-brother's wife & some amusement for me."

"Oh."

Sesshoumaru couldn't wait for tonight when the fireworks would go off.

Sesshoumaru got home early to see Kagome sitting on the couch.

"Sessy, do you know where Rin is," she asked as she jumped off the couch.

"She went to the movies with Arashi & Mizu."

"She never asked me if she could go."

"No, she asked me."

"Why did she ask you & not me?"

"`Because you always say no to her."

"I do not."

"Kagome, when was the last time you let her go out & did something with her friends when it didn't involve leaving there house."

"I don't remember."

"That's because you never do."

Kagome became quiet. Soon the front door opened to reveal very unhappy Inu-Yasha.

"Hey Inu-Yasha, how was your day," Kagome asked.

"Tiring."

Kagome went over & hugged him.

"Where's Rin?"

"At the movies with Mizu & Arashi," Sesshoumaru said.

"You actually let her go, Kagome."

"Not you too."

Sesshoumaru gave one of his rare smirks & listened as the newly-wedded couple fought. He turned towards the front door as it opened again to reveal Rin.

"Rin, honey did you have fun," Kagome asked.

Rin nodded & went over to Sesshoumaru.

"Thank you Sessy for letting me go."

"Your welcome, Rin."

With that Rin went off towards her room so that she could do her homework. Sesshoumaru gave another smirk as he went to his room. His life had turned a complete 180 when Rin had come into their lives. She had slowly melted his icy interior. Sesshoumaru still kept his emotions well hidden & most of the time he was his normal old self. Today had just been a good day for him. It's amazing how much he learned to care about Rin. Sesshoumaru quickly jumped into the shower. He changed into more comfortable clothing & laid down on his bed. He slowly drifted to sleep think about Rin.
