Ichiro listened intently. “Is she alright?” Ichiro asked concerned.
Naraku didn’t respond at first but then finally said, “no, she is not. Kagome has been tricked by two brothers. A youkai and a hanyou. They are fooling her into believing that she loves them.”
“Those bastards!” Ichiro sneered.
“Soon they will take her as they’re concubine against her will.” Naraku said with a slight ire of humor in his voice.
“No, I won’t let them!” Ichiro called out only to be answered with silence. “Naraku?” Silence still. “Hey where the hell are you?”
“I-I don’t have much time.” Naraku finally answered, his voice continuing to fade.
“I don’t understand, where are you?”
“I am using the last bit of my strength to help you. You must take the shikon no tama that is in Kagome’s possession. Accomplish this and the spell the brother’s have on your miko will be broken.”
“But how will I defeat two youkai?”
“You will know when the time comes.” Naraku’s voice faded with the wind. Ichiro waited a moment as the wind stopped and continued to head west.

Kagome woke up nestled between the two brothers. They hadn’t left her side since they met up two nights ago. They would gather food and sit and talk to her, and when it was time for sleep they would nestle themselves on each side of her. Their growls had subsided a while ago. Kagome knew when the time came she would have to make a choice between them. But for the time being she just enjoyed the love she had for the both of them.
Sesshoumaru was the first to stir of the two brothers. He looked down to see his precious miko gazing lovingly up at him.
“You are awake.” Sesshoumaru said softly.
“Yeah, for a while now.” Kagome smiled. Carefully she stood, as to not wake Inuyasha. “Come walk with me.”
Sesshoumaru promptly stood and followed Kagome away from the camp. They walked in silence for a moment then Kagome broke the silence.
“You know I have to choose sooner or later.” Kagome said sadly.
“I know.” Sesshoumaru replied with his usual imperturbable tone.
“I don’t know what to do.” Kagome felt a chill and moved closer to the tai youkai. “Inuyasha and I have been through a lot. He knows me.”
“And I don’t?” Kagome could hear the irritation in Sesshoumaru’s voice.
“I didn’t say that.” Kagome defended.
“But you were going to.”
“No, I wasn’t.” Kagome moved another inch closer to him. “You know me too. When you and Inuyasha were talking that night, about me and reasons. You never answered Inuyasha.” Kagome could feel Sesshoumaru tense up. “If it isn’t love or power, then why do you want me, or am I wrong in presuming that you do want me, or do you just want to protect me?” Kagome got sad at the idea of Sesshoumaru not wanting her. He was a tai youkai after all, and tai youkai just don’t bed mikos, it’s a fact of life.
Sesshoumaru didn’t respond and Kagome became uncomfortable. Little did the brown eyed miko know. Sesshoumaru was struggling to control his youkai. He was on the brink of ravishing her body right there. He wanted to show her how much he wanted her. Words were always useless for him.
Sesshoumaru snapped when he felt Kagome begin to move away. In a blink of an eye he latched on to her arm so hard he made her wince in pain. But he didn’t loosen his hold. Kagome looked up with wide eyes at the youkai who was now growling at her.
“Sesshoumaru, please.” Kagome whimpered. And then she was pulled into his arms gently. Strong arms warming her skin.
“Ssh,” He whispered much more softly than she expected. “Kagome.” Sesshoumaru whispered her name. His voice was hungry and dark. Kagome trembled with desire for him, she clutched the fabric of his kimono and tried to pull him into her.
“Sesshoumaru.” Kagome whispered back. Sesshoumaru caressed Kagome creamy cheek and pulled her face to his, pressing flesh to pouting, delicious flesh. Kagome moaned into Sesshoumaru’s mouth as she deepened the kiss. Sesshoumaru’s hands glided down her body, caressing her delicate rib cage then cupping her hips in his powerful hands, pressing their torsos together. Kagome didn’t know what to expect at first until she felt him through the fabric. Strong, hard and well endowed. Sesshoumaru was still kissing her with more emotion then he has ever emitted in at least one hundred years. But Kagome was beginning to pull away. Sesshoumaru growled low when she finally succeeded in her escape.
“Kagome.” Sesshoumaru’s hoarse voice desperately whispered. Kagome didn’t want to look at him but he didn’t deserve the snub.
“Sesshoumaru, I’m sorry.” Kagome sighed. “I cannot bind myself to you, not until I can work through my feelings for you, and for Inuyasha.”
Sesshoumaru grew angry at this. “You still harbor feelings for my half breed brother.” Sesshoumaru stepped forward as Kagome stepped back. “Do you want to know what your future will be like with him? You will be exiled, ridiculed. Your children will be as meager and weak as humans, he doesn’t have the strength to protect you as I do.” Sesshoumaru reached out and took Kagome’s arm angrily. “You remember don’t you? You remember the times he let you down, don’t you, abandoning you for a corpse!”
Kagome’s eyes widened at this, that woman, the priestess Kikyou. She had learned from Sayuri that the priestess Kikyou had died almost sixty years ago and she was brought back by a old demon called Urasue. But about five years ago she vanished, and no one knows what happened to her. Kagome took in a sharp breath when she realized something important. Quickly she snatched her arm away from the shocked taiyoukai before her.
“She disappeared just like I did.” Kagome said softly. “She disappeared, but he came for me.” And with that Kagome turned and walked back to the camp, leaving Sesshoumaru alone in the forest.
Rin watched Shippou leave the castle grounds from her window. For three days she wanted to go out to him and tell the youkai her feelings for him. But there was also Kenta and the undying love she felt for him. Rin thought about Kagome and her predicament. At first Rin didn’t understand the problem, Kagome would choose her lord and they would live in the castle together for the rest of their lives. But that didn’t happen, instead Kagome stands between two white haired youkai. Caught between hurt and happiness. Someone will be hurt, someone will be happy. And someone might regret. Rin wasn’t hesitant to admit her feelings for Shippou, but she truly loved Kenta. He was her husband and she wanted him. Rin made her decision. She would see Shippou in another life...
Kenta was reluctant to resume his vagabond life. Did he really want the kitsune dead that much. Maybe not, maybe he was over reacting. Kenta couldn’t shake the vision of Rin embracing the demon from his mind. But still he couldn’t travel to far. He only strayed about two miles away before making camp. Kenta thought back to three days earlier, the demon was changing. And for the first time in his life, he was afraid. Kenta was afraid that the kitsune would snatch his Rin away, take her as his own. Kenta feared that more than his death, for losing Rin would be worse than death. Kenta thought of Rin’s reasons for embracing the changing demon. She didn’t want them to kill each other, maybe she was protecting them. But then again, maybe she chose the fox. Kenta sighed, he still had yet to draw his sword, cut his hair and find some army to join. He only waited, waited for some sign to return to his Rin. If she would have him.
“Didn’t travel far I see.” The familiar voice cut into Kenta’s heart and Shippou stepped out from the foliage.
“Youkai!” Kenta growled. “How dare you show your face!” Kenta stood quickly and placed a hand on his sword. Shippou took another step forward.
“I did not come for a fight, Kenta.” Shippou said softly.
“And I should believe you, trickster.” Kenta said angrily but released the white knuckled grip on the hilt of his sword.
“You need to return to the castle and your wife, human. Rin has made her choice, she made her choice the day she stopped my transformation.” Shippou explained sadly.
Kenta took in a sharp breath and his eyes widened in disbelief. “S-she didn’t choose you?”
Shippou shook his head in defeat. “I love Rin, and would never force her hand. I will see her in another life, then she will be mine.” Shippou lowered his head allowing his eyes to darken. He shot his head up when he felt a strong hand on his shoulder, Kenta was looking back at him with understanding eyes.
“Thank you, Shippou.” Kenta said softly before taking off toward the castle.
Shippou smiled. “Take care of her, Kenta.” With that the young fox demon walked in the opposite direction, and away from his love forever.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome sighed, she knew Inuyasha was angry for waking up alone, kami only knows what he was thinking. Inuyasha stopped at the sound of her voice. He was so caught up in his thoughts and chores, he didn’t even realize she was there.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha said softer than she expected. “So where is he?” Inuyasha questioned as her got back to his duties.
“Sesshoumaru?” Kagome said sadly. “We had a disagreement, I don’t know where he is.” Inuyasha put the rabbit over the fire to cook and settled down besides Kagome.
“You guys fought?” Inuyasha questioned.
Kagome turned to the hanyou, her eyes sad and alone. Inuyasha’s heart was twisting in his chest, never had Kagome looked so much like Kikyou, than that moment. “Inuyasha? Do you still love Kikyou?” The question was sudden and not like the Kagome he remembered to ask. Inuyasha wanted her to remember her life before Naraku’s wish, well most of it. Kikyou was never to come into play again.
“I-“ Inuyasha didn’t know what to say. He hadn’t seen Kikyou in five years, sure he wondered what became of her, if she was alive or dead. Surely if she was still alive, she would have contacted him by now. After awhile the thought of Kikyou as anything but a friend faded and thoughts of Kagome and his love for her grew stronger than anything he has ever felt before.
“I don’t love Kikyou.” Inuyasha finally confessed. “I haven’t for a long time now.”
“She died for me.” Kagome said, she didn’t remember Kikyou, but somehow she knew her better than anyone. “I don’t know how I know, and I can’t remember how she died. But she sacrificed her life for mine. So I could live. And sometimes, when I feel lonely. I can feel someone with me, I think we are apart of each other in some way.” Kagome looked back at the fire. “Was she as beautiful as I think she was?”
“She was.” Inuyasha said sadly. “But not as beautiful as you.” Kagome snapped her head to the hanyou who was also watching the flames dance. Kagome knew it was strange for the hanyou to be so open with his feelings. Kagome laid her head on his shoulder as she knew she did years ago.
“I’m glad I’m here with you, Inuyasha” Kagome smiled. She felt a arm wrap around her shoulder and pull her closer. Inuyasha growled in contentment.
“I’m happy you’re here too, Kagome.” Inuyasha confessed as he closed his eyes.
Sesshoumaru sat on a dying log, contemplating his own dying heart. It seemed Kagome had made her choice, but he still refused to believe that. She kissed him, she poured her heart and soul into that kiss. He had to have her, by any means necessary. Sesshoumaru made his way back to the camp.
Kagome hated to leave the warmth of Inuyasha but they needed fresh water. She turned back to her hanyou companion and smiled. He was lovingly holding Daiki and growling softly. Kagome wanted to cry, they were beautiful. But Sesshoumaru was just as gentle with the baby. Kagome wasn’t sure if that was more appealing or not. She was still very confused. Kagome sighed and continued to the spring.
It was deathly quiet and the shikon no tama hanging from Kagome’s slender neck burned brightly, it was almost pulsing. Kagome found this unsettling, there were no animals around. The wind didn’t blow, and the shikon was beginning to burn her skin. Kagome knelt besides the spring and removed the jewel. She winced in pain as she closed her fist around it, trying to contain the evil. But something was fighting her, something evil within the jewel was trying to break free.
“Kagome...” The voice was sinister and chilled the miko to the bone. “The time has come, your power can not contain me, it only fuels me!” With that the jewel pulsed and burned Kagome enough to make her drop it. Kagome whirled around at the sound of leaves cracking, from the darkness came Ichiro, her human suitor from Natsumi’s village.
“Ichiro!” Kagome gasped. “What are you doing so far away from the village.”
Ichiro said nothing as he advanced toward the shocked miko. Kagome didn’t move, she couldn’t speak anymore. Something about the way Ichiro looked at her made her uneasy. The first thought that arose was to protect the jewel. She bent down to pick it up, but it was too late, Ichiro was upon her and the jewel. Before Kagome could wrap her fingers around the jewel, Ichiro snatched it away.
“I will save you Kagome,” Ichiro ghostly voice said. “I will have you, and we will be happy.” Kagome was dumbstruck, her mind kept screaming for her to move, but her legs didn’t get the memo. Kagome saw the evil in his eyes the moment he touched the jewel, something was taking him over and Kagome didn’t know what to do. And then he was gone.
Kagome fell to her knees, five years. Five years she fought demons and humans ruthlessly, and to be so overcome with emotions at the most crucial time was just wrong. She knew why Ichiro was there, she could feel the evil. And she knew what had to be done, but he cared for her and she for him. Ichiro was by her side everyday during her recovery, he encouraged her and held her hand through the more painful rehabilitations. And she loved him like a brother. But now he was the enemy and that was the final breaking point. Everything was happening so fast in her life, she couldn’t remember her life so full of grievance and torment, painful memories and destinies to be fulfilled.
The feeling of approaching youki made Kagome turn and face Sesshoumaru. Kagome couldn’t speak, she jumped into the arms of the tai youkai and cried her eyes out. Sesshoumaru didn’t ask what was the matter he only held her. Finally Kagome spoke in between choking sobs.
“H-how...could I?” Kagome said as she clutched the fabric of Sesshoumaru’s clothing. “How could I have been so weak. I’m a failure.”
Sesshoumaru was over come by curiosity by then. “Kagome, what happened?”
Kagome looked up with wide eyes. “The jewel, Ichiro. The jewel is gone.”
Sesshoumaru was shocked, he pulled back from the devastated miko. Kagome cried harder and Sesshoumaru cradled her in his arms and carried her back to the camp.
“What the hell happened!” Inuyasha was pacing the camp. He saw red when Sesshoumaru carried Kagome who cried herself to sleep in his arms. Sesshoumaru told his brother that the jewel was gone, but how was undetermined.
“Quiet, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru said calmly as he looked over Kagome for any wounds. “The reasons for Kagome’s actions are her own. Obviously the Miko would not just allow someone to take the jewel.”
Inuyasha turned away from his brother. “Well I’m going get it back and kill the bastard who dared to steal it.”
“Don’t be rash Inuyasha. Allow Kagome to rest, I do believe she knows who took the jewel.”
Inuyasha turned to Kagome and sighed in defeat. It must have been tough for her, she was strong and probably felt like she could handle it on her own. But Inuyasha felt otherwise.
“Your wait is almost over, Ichiro.” Naraku’s voice was strong and Ichiro found out just how menacing the sound of pure evil was. Suddenly a cold pulse caused Ichiro to take in a sharp breath. “Clutch the jewel in your palm, Ichiro. And let my power engulf you. Let me help you defeat your enemies and win your miko.”
Ichiro closed his eyes and held the jewel tighter in his hand, he allowed hate and want to fill his heart and he uttered the name of the woman of his desires. “Kagome...Kagome you will be mine.” Suddenly a bright light bursted from the shikon no tama and hit Ichiro with full force in the chest causing him to be hurled into a tree and knocked out cold.
“We have to get the jewel from Ichiro.” Kagome said sternly.
“How can we be of service?” Aya asked.
“Shall we search for the human Lady Kagome?” Amaya asked second.
“We shall all search for Ichiro, and we must move quickly.” Kagome turned and scanned her surroundings. Still no sign of the missing brothers. “They will understand, I’m sure they’ll find me.” With that Kagome disappeared into the forest with her shikigama and child.
“You are sure about this are you, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru asked.
“Keh, don’t try to get out of this bastard.” Inuyasha growled back. “When I kick your ass, you’ll leave us alone got it!”
Sesshoumaru drew his sword and pointed it toward his younger brother. “Prepare yourself, Inuyasha.”

Shippou sat underneath a young tree alone. Rin has not spoken to him in the three days since Kenta’s disappearance and the kitsune was half tempted to track the wretch down and bring him back, just to see her smile. Shippou knew it was entirely his fault for making the rouge leave. And in the beginning he felt a flood of relief which lasted all but three seconds, then Rin broke down. He didn’t know how to comfort her properly without making her feel worse. Shippou knew that he loved Rin, and would do anything for her. Even at the sacrifice of his own heart. Kagome found Inuyasha poking at the small fire, next to him was a skinned rabbit. He said nothing as Kagome sat besides him.

“She was so beautiful.” Ichiro smiled as he stared at the jewel. “I cannot wait to have her Naraku.” The jewel pulsed in his hands.“Your wait is almost over, Ichiro.” Naraku’s voice was strong and Ichiro found out just how menacing the sound of pure evil was.

Kagome woke up with Daiki by her side. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru were no where to be found. Kagome stood and held Daiki close. Aya and Amaya appeared besides the miko and looked up expectantly at their creator.“We have to get the jewel from Ichiro.” Kagome said sternly.

Inuyasha stood before his older brother, Sesshoumaru with the tessaiga drawn. Sesshoumaru remained still as did Inuyasha.“You are sure about this are you, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru asked.
“Keh, don’t try to get out of this bastard.” Inuyasha growled back. “When I kick your ass, you’ll leave us alone got it!”
Sesshoumaru drew his sword and pointed it toward his younger brother. “Prepare yourself, Inuyasha.”
