Ina sighed as she pulled on her glasses. She looked at her naked form in the mirror and again, sighed. She never considered herself beautiful-God knew she was always envious of the other girls that tried to keep up their looks for men-nor attractive.
Ina got into the shower, washing her glasses in the normal manner as she banged her head on the wall, her black hair sticking to her back with the water that made it so heavy.
“Ina! Breakfast!” Her mother shouted through the door, banging on it. Ina turned off the water and looked at herself in the mirror again. She pulled on her school uniform, not caring how she looked as she walked down the stairs to eat her breakfast.
She was on time-like always-and dressed just right. Her mother smiled at her as her little brother, Haru, grinned. “Hey, Sis, are you going to find a boyfriend this year?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I never will. And I'm not wasting my time trying,” Ina replied, her blue eyes looking at her younger brother affectionately.
Haru grinned again and ate his pancakes sloppily. Ina giggled as she helped him clean up. “I'll drive you to school, brother.”
“Thanks, Sis!” Haru yelled from upstairs when he dashed up to get dressed.
Ina walked to her car, waiting for her slow brother to run out with a piece of toast in his mouth. Ina waited for him to finish eating before letting him in the backseat.
“I hope you find your love, Ina-Chan!!!”
“Thanks, Haru-Chan.”

Haru had been dropped off, waving to her as she made sure he safely got into the building. She drove to the high school she had been transferred to with the move to Okinawa. She picked up her schedule and locker number with her combination. She unpacked her backpack, neatly setting up her locker-she had gotten there early to do so.
Ina was knocked into her locker from behind, the door shutting behind her. She looked through the slots, seeing a girl there. The girl had preppy clothes and was surrounded by boys. Ina knocked on her locker door, a slight whimper escaping.
Although Ina refused to cry, she wouldn't be able to keep from whimpering. The bell rang, and Ina knew her chances at perfect attendance would be blotched. The door opened a few seconds later, Ina tumbling out. Nobody was there, but she knew someone had opened it. Ina grabbed her books and dashed to her class, nobody noticing she was late. She stood in a line with others who had-apparently-had this class before.
Another bell rang-making Ina very happy-and the teacher walked in. He had black hair and was wearing sunglasses. “Oh great…I'm stuck with all of the old kids. Except for three…”
“It's great to see you too, Onigumo-San…” A few mumbled. Ina glanced at the schedule, noting that it was an AP Feudal Japan class. The teacher, Naraku, looked at Ina, his sunglasses hiding the expression in his eyes. He tapped a desk. “When your name is called, sit down. Inuyami Ina.”
Ina took her seat. She put her books in her desk silently, notebook open and ready to take notes with a calligraphy pen right on top of it.
“Taisho Sesshomaru.”
A really cute boy walked over to sit next to her. After a while, Ina-not paying attention to the others-looked at Naraku, who wrote an assignment on the front board. Get to know your partners this weekend.
Ina blinked. “Erm…”
“He means me,” Sesshomaru informed in a monotone.
“Oh…” Ina felt like an idiot. She looked at Sesshomaru. “Should we have dinner at my house Saturday and at your house on Sunday?”
“I don't care.”
“Okay…”
“I do not eat with my parents and half-breed brother anyway.”
“Oh…”
Ina stayed silent after then. She took notes on the lesson.
“Okay, so we're going to spend this year talking about the highlights of the Feudal Era. We're going to start at the reign of the Inu no Taisho and end at the reign of his son's mate…” Ina, for some reason, seemed to remember something. It was hazy, but it was her staring into cold, piercing amber eyes.
“…And we will also do the story of the lord's half-brother, who was despised by many except for a small group. And then the evil half-demon by the name of Naraku.”
Ina shuddered at the name “Naraku”. She somehow knew that name and was not eager to find out how. The bell rang, saving Ina from being further confused. She walked up to Naraku and bowed. “Thank you for a wonderful explanation of this year, Onigumo-San.”
“Not many people thank me for lecturing.” Naraku bowed in return. “You'd better get going before the second bell rings.”
“Erm…Yes, sir.”
Naraku suddenly dropped all of his papers from his briefcase that he had picked up to move it. Ina kneeled down and helped him to pick them up. Much to Naraku's relief, she didn't look at the papers as she picked them up. She handed the small stack to Naraku with a gentle smile. “There you are, sir.” Naraku glanced at Ina, who noticed that he had evilly seductive red eyes.
“Thank you, Inuyami-San. Get going.”
Ina nodded and picked up her books. She ran to her next class, finding that she made it there a few minutes before the bell. She found herself in an AP Calculus classroom. `All of these AP classes…'
As soon as the bell rang again, the woman teacher stood up. “I am Udo-San, your teacher. I see a few familiar faces. Not a lot but enough to make me wonder.” Her ruby eyes stared at everyone in turn. “Taisho Sesshomaru, you sit here,” She instructed. Sesshomaru, same as before, took his seat. Ina looked at him then saw Kagura, the teacher, point at the seat next to him. “Inuyami Ina, this is where you will sit.” Ina groaned. She didn't want to sit next to Sesshomaru again.
Sesshomaru glanced at Ina. “I suppose we are stuck as partners again.”
“I guess so…You make it sound like a bad thing to work with me.”
“It is,” Sesshomaru replied. Ina went silent, resting her head in her arms. She knew now what people thought of her; a useless idiot not worth anyone's time.
Ina sighed as she took notes. Of course, it was just explaining what would be taught during the school year. Ina still took the notes, trying her best to be a good student. She always had straight A's and wasn't intent on changing that. She didn't wish to ruin the perfect attendance she had maintained for years either. The bell rang, signaling that it was time for lunch.
Ina silently gathered her books and went to her locker, careful not to fall in or be pushed. She took out a binder and a pen, apparently ready to write something. She bought her lunch from the line and sat the end of the only open table, writing as she ate her lunch.
Sesshomaru, across the table, glanced at her. Nobody ever dared to sit with him. Ina, of course, did. She didn't know what he was capable of…Yet. He went back to reading his book. Ina continued to write, not even noticing Sesshomaru as she flipped the page. Sesshomaru ignored her presence, even though it was slightly difficult.
Ina finally closed the binder. She finished her tea and threw out her trash, leaving the binder for Sesshomaru to flip through. Sesshomaru, strangely curious, opened the binder and looked at the pages. They were song lyrics with music. He noticed one song, reading the lyrics. He absently sang to it, having the music with it. “Cut my life into pieces. This is my last resort. Suffocation; no breathing. Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding. This is my last resort...”
Ina had come back at this point. In a deep voice she continued with it. “…Cut my life into pieces. I've reached my last resort- suffocation; no breathing. Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding. Do you really care if I die pleading?
“Would it be wrong would it be right if I took my life tonight; chances are that I might.” Sesshomaru noticed Ina singing and then realized he had been. He flipped through the binder, looking at other songs. He saw another one.
Ina looked over his shoulder and sang, “I tear my heart open; I sew myself shut. And my weakness is that I care too much. And my scars remind me that the past is real; I tear my heart open-just to feel.
“I'm drunk and I'm feeling down-and I just wanna be alone.” Ina stopped singing as Sesshomaru flipped the page again. He looked at a song he knew he'd be suited for. He did seem to be the subject, anyway.
“I'm tired of being what you want me to be. Feeling so faithless; lost under the surface. Don't know what you're expecting of me. Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes. Every step that I take is another mistake to you…”
Ina listened to Sesshomaru, in awe of his singing skill. As soon as everyone else could hear his singing, the talking in the cafeteria went silent. The only sound was Sesshomaru's singing. Ina quickly turned on a tape recorder, making sure that she was recording it right.
“…I've become so numb-I can't feel you there. Become so tired, so much more aware. I'm becoming this. All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you!
“Can't you see that you're smothering me? Holding too tightly-afraid to lose control. `Cause everything that you thought I would be has fallen apart. Right in front of you…”
Ina was wide-eyed as she could hear the sincerity in his singing tone. `He's…Not lying about it…These words aren't just a song to him…Nor are the words a song to me…' She thought.
“…Every step that I take is another mistake to you…And every second I waste is more than I can take!
“I've become so numb-I can't feel you there. Become so tired, so much more aware. I'm becoming this. All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you!
“And I know I may end up failing too! But I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you!
“I've become so numb-I can't feel you there. Become so tired, so much more aware. I'm becoming this. All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you!
“I've become so numb-I can't feel you there. I'm tired of being what you want me to be…I've become so numb-I can't feel you there. I'm tired of being what you want me to be…” Sesshomaru noticed that everyone was staring at him. He glared at everyone coldly, all of them turning away. Ina held out her hand for her binder. Her glasses were on the bridge of her nose, her sky blue eyes showing her amazement.
Ina sighed and pushed her glasses back onto her nose. She was impressed with his singing and knew that the guys would feel the same. She turned off the tape recorder and slipped it into her pocket. She went back to the music that she had been writing.

Ina went to her third class of the day. Graphic Arts and Design. The teacher, Onigumo Hakudoshi, called the names for where people were going to be sitting. “Inuyami Ina, you sit at computer 1. Taisho Sesshomaru, computer 2.” Ina sighed as she took her seat. Sesshomaru sat at the computer beside her. Ina had a new binder wherever he saw her. Sesshomaru looked at her without her noticing as she started to bring up a picture from her compact disc. She used PhotoShop to edit it.
Sesshomaru watched. It was a hand-drawn sketch and Ina was coloring it in with the PhotoShop system. Hakudoshi turned around from facing the opposite side of the room and blinked at how quick Ina was filling up his instructions, apparently just one step ahead of him. He resumed giving his instructions on having everyone hand-draw, ink, and color a sketch.
~*~
Ina had printed out her picture and given it to Hakudoshi for her assignment. Sesshomaru was just finishing up with scanning it in as she did that. He pulled up PhotoShop and colored it, hiding the picture from Ina. He printed out two pictures and turned one in to Hakudoshi. The other one, he put in his binder's folder, looking at the perfect image of Ina in the picture before shutting the binder. He shut down the computer and saw that Ina was reading a book.
As Sesshomaru struggled to notice the title, he saw that she was reading a sex scene. `Romance novel…“Dark Prince” by Christine Feehan.' Ina read on, ignoring Sesshomaru. She read until the bell, when she was up and leaving within a split second.

`AP English…' Ina sat at a desk. A boy with white hair and amber eyes with sunglasses on the bridge of his nose placed his hands on the desk and leaned across it, making Ina feel insecure. “Hi. I'm Taisho Inuyasha. What's your grade point average?”
“4.0…”
“Good. Let's be partners.” Inuyasha began to sit next to Ina, making her scoot away.
Sesshomaru appeared out of nowhere and punched Inuyasha in the gut, sending him flying to land on a desk. Sesshomaru took the seat next to Ina. Quietly, he informed, “Although I don't want to sit next to you, I don't want you to be ruined by the whores and perverts in this room.”
“Thank you, Sesshomaru…” Ina said, also quietly. Inuyasha groaned as he was helped up by several girls. Sesshomaru smirked at the struggling hanyou. “You seem to be getting weaker and weaker.”
“Shut up, Sesshomaru!” Inuyasha shouted, nearly lunging at him.
At that second, the teacher walked in. The teacher, Gin Myoga, saw Inuyasha lunging at Sesshomaru. “Inuyasha! I would expect better from you!”
“Sorry, Gin-San.”
“Where you are sitting is where you will remain.”
For once, Ina was very happy to hear that. Especially when that meant that she would sit next to Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru, who was staring at her, turned his attention to the front, where Myoga was writing the syllabus for the year on the board. Ina wrote it down silently. She glanced at Sesshomaru, watching as he wrote in fast, cursive shorthand.

`AP Comprehensive Biology…?' Ina asked herself mentally. She looked around the room. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were both in the class. They had chosen seats on the opposite sides of the room. She quickly sat with Sesshomaru. “I'm sorry but I don't think that boy over there has good intentions.”
“I know that he doesn't.”
“How?”
“That is none of your concern.”
“Alright…”
Ina took out her pencil and the next binder. It had pictures of her mother and brother on it. A few of them had a man of whom Ina never saw his face. Quietly, Ina opened the binder. She took notes on the course's goals for the year. She looked at Sesshomaru and was immediately blushing. His gaze was boring into her.
Ina heard the teacher, Katanakaji Totosai, tell everyone to talk to their partner and learn about them.
“So…uhh…Who do you live with?”
“Hn.”
“Erm…I live with my mother and younger brother…”
“Hn.”
“Is that all you can say?”
“Hn.”
“Very funny.”
“Hn.”
Ina sighed and rested her head in her arms. `This is going to be a long year…' She heard the bell ring and immediately jumped up to go to her locker, where she took everything out and placed it all in her organized backpack. After that, she fixed her glasses and got into her car, finding that she had five minutes before she had to pick up Haru.
Ina drove to the school and waited right at the door for her little brother, who ran out with the other kids when the bell rang. He saw Ina and ran over. “Sis! Sis! Sis!”
“What is it, Haru?”
“I met a nice teacher today! His name is Taisho-San!”
“`Taisho'?”
“Hai!”
Ina giggled. She led Haru to her car, helping him into the back seat and buckling him. “I'm going to the store because I need a few things. I was thinking of cooking some sushi tonight…”
“YAY!!!” Haru shouted. He loved sushi.
Ina smiled as she closed his door and opened hers to get in. She turned on the radio and listened to Haru sing along. It was a kids' station so she didn't have to worry about him hearing anything inappropriate. She heard one of her songs playing and laughed as she sang it.
“Oo e oo ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang. Oo e oo ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang.” (Of course, the song is longer. But I'm too lazy to type it all)
~*~
Haru hopped around the store, grabbing random healthy foods from all over. Stuff for sushi, beef stroganoff, pasta, etc. Ina smiled and took the cart to where there was pocky. She bought six boxes of each type, happy to know that if her mother wanted two boxes of each type, she was free to it.
Haru found an aisle with all sorts of toys and looked around. He found a black dog and picked it up, hugging it. He looked at Ina, who nodded with a small smile. Grinning, he hopped after Ina with the dog in his arms.

Ina sighed as she flopped onto her bed from the tiring day. She took off her glasses and put them in the holder next to her bed. She crawled up to change into a light yukata before she slipped under the covers. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out for the night.

Sesshomaru leaned over the rail to view his brother and father eating at the table. Inuyasha was a giant mess and shouting nonsense at his father, Taisho Toga. Toga was listening intently. As soon as dinner was over, he started up the steps and saw Sesshomaru leaning on the wall next to his study.
Toga opened the door and walked in, beckoning Sesshomaru inside. Sesshomaru followed silently, sitting in the chair across Toga's desk. “What do you need to inform me of?”
“Saturday night I will be attending dinner at my school partner's house. On Sunday night she will be coming here.”
“`School partner'?”
“Hai.”
“Nothing deeper? I'm ashamed.”
“Just because that half-breed flaunts about with whores, doesn't mean that I will.”
“Alright, Alright.”
Sesshomaru left his father's study and went into his room silently. He saw that Inuyasha was digging through his stuff. “What are you doing, Half-Breed?”
“I know you have to have a stash…”
“I'm not a junkie like you are, mutt. Get out.”
Inuyasha growled as he obeyed. Sesshomaru laid on his bed and closed his eyes. For a while, he just thought about Ina. Finally, he managed to let sleep take over.
