“The Inutaisho Legacy” chapter one
Bundles of Joy

Inuyasha stretched out on his side and inhaled the scent of his family. Kagome curled up under his arm, asleep and content with his strength and protection. A crib stood at attention against Kagome's desk, holding the other half of his family unit. Inuyasha inhaled softly and smiled to take in the scent of his son.

Inutaro held an interesting new scent that all the babies in the hospital wing had, a softness, a freshness that made his nose ache but sniff hard all the same. His son, however, was quarter inu demon and held a sharper natural musk that swelled his male ego. He had given that to his son after all. He was different than the other boys and girls born that day or week in the hospital, and while the differences could cause trouble later, for now he was proud of his son's inherent uniqueness.

Kagome sighed and shifted at his side, and Inuyasha's blood pooled to his groin feeling her softness press against him. It had been one week since they had been allowed to take the pup home, and far longer since they had been intimate. When would she be ready? Inuyasha knew he had to wait, but still he couldn't help his hands from moving over her curves.

Kagome groaned and her eyelids fluttered open. “Inuyasha?” she croaked, yawning. Inuyasha kissed her lips when she was done, and moved down to her milk-heavy breasts.

“Just me, baby…. You feel so good, Kagome,” he murmured huskily. Kagome arched her back and sighed at his sweet attentions but tugged on his ears when he pulled too sharply.

“Ow! That hurts…” she said, frowning in the near dark of the bedroom. Her mate sighed in frustration and rubbed her back. As they lay pressed together, she could feel his arousal between the thin layers of their clothing. He was definitely ready to claim the mother of his child again.

“I'm sorry…”he mumbled, nibbling on her neck. Kagome shivered as he suckled over his mating mark, but pushed on his shoulders when he moved to climb on top of her.

“Huh, what is it?” he murmured, hazy in passion. Kagome hit his shoulder as he tried to push her nightgown up.

“Stop it, Inuyasha, it's too soon!” she whispered. They fought briefly against each other, bodies and wills clashing. It only served to turn Inuyasha even further on and he was groaning against her rapidly.

“Kagome….Kagome….I need you,” he gasped, pushing her nightgown aside and reaching for his waistband at the same time. Kagome laughed, pushing on his chest.

“I know you do, but I can't. It's too soon! We have to wait….a few weeks…until I'm healed…..Inuyasha!” she grabbed a handful of his hair as he tried to persuade her tired but fired body.

“I need you…”he throatily whispered, kissing her throat and shoulder roughly. Kagome gasped at his attentions and pressed her hands against his back.

“No, Inuyasha, get off of me…” she whispered. Sooner or later his rowdiness was going to wake up the baby….or her mother, or Souta or Jii-chan in the other rooms! Her mate just wouldn't stop purring.

“I can't….I can't unless…”

“WAH!” the sharp wail pierced the parent's ears and Inuyasha fell to the side, stunned from the sheer volume. His ears twitched rapidly, stung to the core from the sudden decibels.

Kagome sat up, holding the blankets to her breasts and frowned down at her mate. “It serves you right, waking the baby! I'll get him…”

Inuyasha sprang up, hitching at his hakama with one hand, sensing his mate's mounting fury for his amorous proposals. He stepped the foot to the crib and looked in, rubbing exhaustion from his eyes as the prospect of work presented itself flailing his fists in his crib.
“Papa's here, pup…Papa's here,” he rumbled, reaching in carefully and easing his son out into his arms. His pup, wrapped up and dressed in a large infant pajama set, resembled more a padded ball than a quarter demon, but he figured he would grow soon.
Inutaro pressed against his father's familiar warmth and his cries decreased in volume though the wails still held a note of urgency. Inuyasha snuffed and cradled the ball of warmth, moving to the rocking chair dragged into the small room. There really was no room left in Kagome's room, but damned if they were going to move the baby from their sight yet.

Kagome stood, reaching her arms out. “I'll take him, Inuyasha….” Inuyasha brightened as her lips sought his for a small kiss and the baby was transferred. Inutaro burbled, hiccupping, knowing what awaited him as Kagome sat in the rocking chair. Inuyasha reached to move Kagome's maternity nightgown aside at the collar and Inutaro was pressed to her breast.
Inuyasha sat on the bed and watched, aroused, content, yet frustrated all at the same time.

“He gets more of your breasts than me,” he commented, tickling Inutaro's pajama-ed feet. His son curled against Kagome's breast and Kagome rubbed his back and head softly.

“He needs it, Inuyasha! This is how he eats,” she reminded him. Inuyasha only laughed and watched his son dine.

“I'll take him, you go back to sleep,” Inuyasha mumbled as he rubbed his eyes. Kagome yawned, and raised Inutaro to her shoulder, adjusting a rag for him to burp on.

“Thank you, Inuyasha,” she murmured, and smiled sleepily as Inutaro belched noisily and snuggled against her. She held him up, kissed his sweet fuzzy head and laid him in his crib. Inuyasha slung an arm around his mate's waist and helped her back into bed.

“Why are you so good to me?” she asked sleepily, rubbing her head. Inuyasha held his aching brow with one hand.

“Because we've gone too long without being one,” he leered. Kagome swatted his knee and fell back asleep. Inuyasha watched her, and tilted his head back, content to lean against the headboard of the bed.

All too soon Kagome's annoying talking clock rang and shook them up. Inutaro snuffled and moved around and Inuyasha, silently cursing the excellent hearing he passed to his boy, moved to pick up his son and move downstairs to the kitchen.
“I'll see you downstairs,” he called softly and carried a blanket, and a few burp rags with the baby. Inutaro sniffed and breathed against his father's chest, quiet for the ride.

Inuyasha found Mama Higurashi preparing the morning meal and he yawned, plopping down in a kitchen chair, cradling Inutaro to his shoulder with one arm.

“How is he today?” Mama asked softly, beaming down at her grandson. Inutaro regarded her blandly, his little mouth working and snuggled back into his father's warmth. Inuyasha yawned widely once more, displaying all of his teeth, and rubbed his nose against Inutaro's scalp.

“Awake and ready to fight a new day! Kagome's getting ready,” he added belatedly. Mama nodded and set a mug of coffee before her son in law. Inuyasha reached for it with his free hand and downed it in one gulp. He hadn't had a penchant for the modern stimulant with all the past visits to Kagome's time, but now found it had a craved pick-me-up he needed for these tired mornings. His boy really was a handful.

Inutaro burbled against his neck, as if confirming this. Mama giggled and finished up the meal, setting the table for Jii-chan and her offspring while Inuyasha bounced his baby lightly with one arm.

Souta wandered into the kitchen, yawning hugely. Inuyasha hailed him and Souta mumbled a greeting in response. The young boy's eyes were circled in exhaustion, though he hadn't been the one to get up at each beck and call of his nephew. Still, family felt all and Inuyasha almost felt bad for the kid.

“Heh, you have to stop keeping your uncle Souta up,” Inuyasha whispered to his son. Inutaro stared up at him in fascination, and burped up a spitbubble. Inuyasha yawned and kissed his cheek.

“And me too…..”

“How is he this morning?” Souta asked, rubbing his eyes and moving closer. Mama set his plate on the table, and Inuyasha's and the two young men dug in eagerly.

“Crying, sucking from Kagome and taking care of business,” Inuyasha stated matter-of-factly. Souta wound up laughing as Mama shushed him.

Kagome waltzed into the kitchen, her schoolbag over one shoulder and stretching with her free arm. Inuyasha watched her school top stretch over her rounder breasts and felt a primal ache in his loins. The mother of his child was so beautiful.

“Morning, Kagome,” he grinned tiredly. Kagome kissed his brow, then the baby, and let her mother serve her breakfast.

“You two will be all right?” she asked. Inuyasha nodded widely, eyes shining. He knew Kagome needed to get back to her learning, so he would take care of the baby all by himself.

“Course, Kagome! I have him, we'll be fine,” he smiled widely. Kagome laughed and hugged the top of his head.

“Thanks, Inuyasha…this means a lot to me…” she whispered. Mama handed Kagome a glass of juice and a couple of vitamins.

“I wish you would take more time off from school! They understand,” she argued. Kagome smiled and swallowed her pills.

“I will, Mama! I'm just making up a few tests today and I'm coming straight home. Eri-chan said she'd bring me notes every few days,” Kagome beamed. Inuyasha nodded soundly, even if he had no idea to what she was talking about.

“Okay, have a good day!” he waved Inutaro's tiny balled up hand. Inutaro cried out and burbled.

That memory made Kagome warm the whole time she was gone from home.

The weeks went by. Inutaro continued to alert his parents awake for feedings and changings throughout the night. During the day he napped and lay in his playpen downstairs, or was worn in a sling on his father's back when he had to sweep the shrine courtyard.

Inuyasha had received countless compliments on his son's looks and his boy had been the recipient of a number of prayers and offerings. Jii-chan, who Inuyasha was beginning to suspect was exploiting his great-grandchild's presence to the shrine-goers, was pleased at the monetary offerings. Inuyasha only let countless mothers, young and old, touch his boys hands and bow their well-wishes.
Inutaro even a few months old did not escape Jii-chan's harsh rule to keep the dog ears hidden. It was early spring but still cold, so it wasn't out of the ordinary that Inuyasha put a knit hat over his son's scalp. It was loose enough to allow his son some movement while hiding what was needed and Inuyasha would give him this tiny luxury.

Kagome would study after school, play with their son, take a long bath and go to sleep, repeating the process all over again the next day. Unless it was the weekend. Those few days Inuyasha was rewarded his own time to work in the shrine, so he could spend what time he could with his mate. Kagome, though exhausted, loved being close to her small family.
Jii-chan gave his own bedroom to be turned over into Inutaro's, and took up residence in his shrine office. Inuyasha, though tortured with the exact art of shrine maintenance Jii-chan was tyrannical about, could only begrudgingly thank him. A two-way baby radio connected their son's screams directly to Kagome's bed. Inuyasha reflected the wonder of the modern era's technology couldn't beat a pair of good ears, but try and tell that to Kagome or Mama.

Inuyasha watched Kagome bounce Inutaro in her arms one day after a checkup to Doctor Sato. That damned man had poked and touched his boy's ears, making the baby wail, and asked yet again for surgery to redo them. He had seen red for a moment and it took his mate's soothing touch to calm him down.
“How are you feeling? Do you still ache?” he asked quietly. Kagome had only voiced a few personal aches, but he could feel the rest, throbbing in her.

Kagome shook her head and smiled, as Inutaro laughed, patting her face. “I feel better…Dr. Sato said I seemed in perfect condition too,” she smiled. Inuyasha's face heated up and he coughed.

“Maybe you're well enough to…you know….” He stammered. Kagome smiled, patting his cheek.

“Maybe… would you wash Inutaro though? I want to be rested,” she simpered. Inuyasha groaned and took his son.
“Yeah, you're sleeping in your own room tonight! Your dad needs some time alone with your mom,” he smiled, and bounced him in his arms. Inutaro yawned.

After dinner was eaten, the baby fed and put to bed, Inuyasha bid Mama and Souta goodnight, and followed his mate up to their room, anticipation thrumming through him with each step.

Kagome was seated at her desk, reading yet another textbook and he groaned at the sight. “Kagome!”
“Hmm?” Kagome asked, looking up. Inuyasha stalked over and slammed her book shut, leaning over her desk to stare in her face.

“Haul your beautiful self into that bed, because you're not studying anymore tonight,” he commanded. Kagome arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms under her breasts. Inuyasha's gaze went down and seared the area.

“I don't remember you being the boss of me,” she said. Inuyasha growled and kissed her. Kagome kissed back but stayed seated at her desk, reaching for her book. Inuyasha put his hands over hers, and hauled her out of her chair, tossing her the few feet onto the bed.

Despite her mock protests, the two easily found their way together. Inuyasha took care of their clothing and climbed on top of her as she giggled and reached for him. It had been far too long indeed.

Inutaro wailed over the baby monitor shortly after. Inuyasha collapsed onto Kagome, gasping. His body shone with a fine layer of sweat and Kagome fared no better. She squeezed her legs around his hips and nuzzled his shoulder. It had been very close, but they had finished in time for number one of Inutaro's feedings.
“I'll get him,” Inuyasha moaned, pulling out gently. Kagome rested on her side and watched as he pulled on a pair of sweatpants, satiated and content. When he returned a half an hour later, she rubbed his back. They both nodded off, wrapped up against each other.

Weeks passed.

“Kagome, do you think we could go back through the well?” Inuyasha asked innocently. Inutaro, struggling to roll over and crawl, grunted, his tiny face pinched in frustration.
Kagome giggled, recognizing that look on her husband's face many times before and rubbed Inutaro's belly. He panted and laughed at his mother, rocking back and forth.

“I don't see why not! I was thinking the same thing,” she giggled, picking up her son. Inutaro laughed and babbled to her, content to be held.

“Miroku and Sango have had to had their kid by now, and hell we need to bring our boy over,” Inuyasha tickled his son's stocking feet. Inutaro yelled in excitement. Kagome winced and handed him over for some gentle horseplay.

Souta charged into the room and rolled against his nephew gently, making Kagome groan.

“Be careful with him, Souta!” Kagome commanded. Souta rolled his eyes but gently picked up Inutaro, cradling him as taught.

“Hell he'll have a good time seeing them…” Inuyasha nodded. “Besides, don't you want to see if Shippou's making out with that girl or what?”

“Inuyasha!” Kagome said, shocked. “Okay, I'll ask, but that was rude!” Souta giggled, and held Inutaro up in his hands.

“You're going back into the well, sis? Be careful,” Souta offered. Inutaro squirmed and grinned widely.

“We always are, kid!” Inuyasha beamed, slapping a palm over Tetsusaiga's hilt. He never went far without it, even dressed in modern clothing. Souta grinned and looked down at his nephew's face.

“Be careful over there, little guy! Remember, it's claws out, and Sanko….” Souta began.

“HEY!” Inuyasha protested. Kagome laughed.

Finding one suitable weekend where both weren't obligated for study or shrine care, Kagome and Inuyasha packed supplies for themselves and their son and told Kagome's family they were going back through the well.
After the customary goodbyes and well-wishes, Inuyasha carried the bags over one shoulder, and took his wife's hand. Kagome, hugging Inutaro snug in a sling around her middle, squeezed his hand and let him hold her close as they jumped through into nothingness, letting the void pull them back five hundred years.

They landed down hard on packed dirt and leaves, looking up through the well at a clear blue sky. Kagome breathed an excited sigh and looked to Inuyasha. They had made it through! Inuyasha grinned, held her and his boy with one arm, and leaped out in one bound.

After settling Inutaro down and getting their bearings, the couple made their way to Kaede's village.

* * * *

“Aye, it's been nigh on five years here,” Kaede beamed gently, holding Inutaro happily. Inutaro, always pleased to make a new friend, touched the crags in her face and babbled excitedly. His puppy ears twitched noticeably out in the open and Inuyasha beamed, knowing his boy was grateful for that.

“Has it really? Five years?” Kagome asked, confused. Inuyasha merely shrugged.
“How come so much time has passed here and it's only been a few months for us?”

“I cannot reveal the mysteries of thine well, Kagome,” Kaede said gently. “That well is far older than this time and holds secrets even my dear granny could not remember I am sure.”

Kagome nodded, sipping at the cup of tea Kaede had handed her. Inuyasha insolently drank from his one-handed, but Kaede never took offense at his less than perfect manners. Inutaro currently had his attention on a moth that fluttered around the cook fire inside Kaede's hut, watching its movements with quick responses of his eyes.

“How are Miroku-sama and Sango-chan?” she brightened, the gloom and doom talk of supernatural mysteries over. “If it's been five years, their baby must be…four or so!”

“Oh, aye,” Kaede's eye softened and she smiled down at the squirming quarter inu in her hands. “As much a handful as this one here, but tempered with Houshi-sama's patience if you can believe it. Her name is Hikaru and she already wants to learn weapons from her mother.”

“Oh how wonderful!” Kagome laughed, clapping her hands. “I'm so happy for Sango-chan! I can't wait to see them.”

Kaede nodded, her single eye shining. “It is past due to check up on the exterminator village, so I hope you don't mind this old one's company.”

“Forget it, obaa-chan!” Inuyasha waved his hand. His smile made up for his term and Kaede beamed at him. “We'll be glad to all go together. I think my boy here could use an extra set of arms.”

Inutaro waved one hand and burped.

As Kagome looked through the diaper bag for a bottle of pumped breast milk, she froze at Kaede's next words.

“Of course, Sango will be glad to see you both. What with her son and new baby, there has been a lot of work to be had at that village. Houshi-sama had to hire out new hunters to help with the maintenance.”

Inuyasha and Kagome stared at each other. “Three children in four years??”

Rin followed her lord carefully as always, her sandals clacking lightly across stone or twigs in the forests path. She stayed two steps behind and to the left of Sesshomaru-sama as was customary, but felt a twinge of pride that her straight posture put her up to the bottom of his chest if he stood still for measurement.

It had been five years and her fourteenth name day had come and gone. Jaken-sama had grown sentimental to her in the past few years, and always remembered. Even if it cost him a kick or beating, he would be sure to remind their lord and master of young Rin's important day. This year had been special. Rin blushed to remember her lord bestowing upon her a woman's kimono, his face ever unmoving but his eyes serious.

Jaken proved surprisingly adept at helping her tie and layer the garment, so he had to do to help clothe her while the three patrolled the western lands endlessly on at these brief journeys.

Rin glided behind her lord, her gait graceful and learned, her hair tied up by Jaken's clever hands. Her face was as poised as she was taught yet she could never stop a small smile from gracing her red lips. Sesshomaru liked to see these secret smiles. His warm eyes told her this more than words ever could.

Rin blushed, clasping her hands before her as they walked ever on, she and the toad often talking quietly so as not to disturb Sesshomaru-sama's thoughts, but ever content with each other. Sesshomaru-sama had grown more content in five short years, Rin was sure he was healing. She had yet to discover fully how Kagome-sama was taken away five years ago, but knew she wanted her lord to stop grieving internally about past mistakes.

While Rin smiled prettily at his left shoulder, Sesshomaru strode onwards. He could hardly believe five short years had passed. While it was no more than a blink of his eyes, that blink had made his child taller and pleasing in a woman's young shape. She would grow ever older as he walked in his woefully long life. Sesshomaru had discovered something in his journeys to heal in the past few years.
With Rin at his side, he did not want to walk by her and leave her old and crippled, succumbed to humanity's inevitability. He wanted her to walk two steps behind him to his left as long as she was able.

She was old enough to receive him. His sharp nose had sensed her first mooning. Through the embarrassment and turmoil on her part, he had known. He had been kind and found older human women to tell her what was happening to her, then he took Rin with him as he always did.
Her new womanly scents were pleasing and tormented his body with plaguing lusts as no youkai had ever done. Her sharp eyes and posture reminded him of Kagome, but she was not that Woman. Sesshomaru would not make the mistake of confusing what had been taken from him with this being of unparalleled loyalty. Rin was unmistakably Rin and he let her grow accustomed to these new changes before any ideas of courtship.

Each night, he let her groom his long white hair. Sometimes she would tickle his ears and he would snuff lightly. Jaken could only hover nearby, forever out of these small touching games, but observant nevertheless. When asked by her, he would sweep his one hand through her dark tresses, and comb them with his claws gently. This reciprocated act was not done each night or each time she asked, but when he obeyed the silent question in her wide eyes, her small hums and sighs were ambrosia to his soul.

Her sharp scent kept him painfully aware of her as they walked, as they stayed at the palace, as they slept by the same campfire. His Rin…..he would keep her ever at his side if that would keep her happy.
And hopefully, she would want from him what he wanted from her in return.

Inuyasha and his companions were hailed by a thin young man keeping watch in the high tower of the exterminator village. Shouts sounded from within the high walls and the gate was pulled open. Inuyasha's ears twitched, feeling the spiritual barrier go down as he and his family walked through the gateway, and Inutaro scrunched his face, twitching one ear.

The young men were a new addition to the village, but the priest and woman who came running forward were not. Kagome met Sango in a generous embrace, both yelling and trying to talk all at once. Miroku followed close behind, holding a plump baby in one arm, while a three-year old boy hugged his robed leg.
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow and he and Miroku shared a look of masculine commiseration. Inuyasha, holding Inutaro in his sling, could only sympathize as he was stuck with the baby also.

“Ohhh, Sango-chan, they're so adorable! Congratulations, Miroku-sama!” Kagome cooed, touching the infant's hands. The baby girl, about Inutaro's age, squirmed and smiled widely.
Inutaro's ears twitched and he looked around with interest.

Sango strode over to Inuyasha and kissed the pup's brow. “He looks just like you. Only he has Kagome-chan's eyes,” she winked. Inuyasha grinned and blushed.

“Yeah, well…. Heh,” he grinned, leaning to kiss her cheek. Sango bowed to Kaede, and took her arm.

“Kaede-sama you should sit down! Join us in the main house,” Miroku suggested as he rocked the baby with one arm. The three-year old peeked shyly around his robe's hem and hid again.

“Oh I think your little one is nervous,” Kagome smiled, leaning down to peer at the boy. Miroku's sharp eyes met her gaze, but the shyness on his face reminded her of Kohaku.

“My son's name is Souta. Souta, say hello to the Lady Kagome!” Miroku winked. Kagome touched the boy's face as he sniffed, and warmed up to her.

“Why Souta?” she asked in wonder. Miroku and Sango's eyes saddened, yet held a determined happiness.

“Well, he looks so much like….Kohaku,” Sango gulped over the name of her beloved sibling. “That I wanted to honor him with the memory of your own brother.”
Kagome's eyes filled with tears and the two women embraced.

Inuyasha cleared his throat then socked Miroku's shoulder.
“So many children so soon,” Inuyasha laughed. “Miroku, you old dog! Way to rock the bed mat!”

“Inuyasha!” Kagome chided as Inutaro wiggled in his father's arms, sharing in the mirth. “Really, children are present.”

“We can catch up inside anyway,” Sango smiled, tucking her braid back over one shoulder. “Daisuke! Please can you bring Hikaru here?”

A strapping young lad ran up, a small girl held to his shoulder and squealing loudly at the ride. He skidded to a stop and set her down on her barefeet, child's robe flapping.

“Hi, mama! Papa,” Hikaru giggled. Sango gave her a small look and the girl bobbed a quick bow.

“My oldest, and heir,” Miroku said proudly, setting a free hand on the top of the girl's head. “Have you said your incantations today, Hikaru?”

“Uhm, papa! Then Daisuke sparred with me,” Hikaru announced. Inuyahsa laughed, seeing a child's sized bokken stuck through her belt. He had no doubt the young man Daisuke let her whack his own weapon as plenty times as the child needed, but it was good practice either way.

“Sounds like you got a warrior here! Hope my boy wants to whack sticks around when he gets bigger,” Inuyasha's chest puffed out. Kagome sighed.

“I know, I know, you want him to study hard,” Inuyasha sighed.

Kaede stretched and sighed. “Come on, children, these old bones want to sit a spell!”

“A fine idea, and we've left Kaede-sama standing too long. Ataru! Yusaku! Take a break!” Miroku called to a few other men, and set up the barrier to allow only human signatures in, as Shun and Tatsumaru were still out hunting.

In the main house, amidst the chattering and merriment, Inutaro was laid on his back next to the baby girl Nozomi. The two looked at each other and wriggled happily.

End for now

Wheee, the first installment of a sequel of sorts! It's not going to be very action-packed, but I hope you enjoy. Please review and tell me what you think!

InuSkye gets credit for the title of this sequel, as well as using Souta's name for the second child born to the exterminators. Suggesting using his name inspired the reason for it. You rock, girl! A kind word can turn a world of difference.
