Why would Kohaku not want to remember? She pondered over this as they walked along the path. Why would he not want to remember me? Why? I donÕt understand it! Naraku you beast!
Suddenly she did understand it. What if.. what if he thinks it is his fault? His fault that he killed Chichi-ue... and the others. His fault that he was possessed. NO! Kohaku! You have it all wrong! Everything is NarakuÕs fault. You canÕt help getting possessed, can you? Kohaku, youÕve got to remember. Nothing was your fault. Sango stumbled in shock as she realized something else.
Kohaku, donÕt.. DonÕt you realize that if you donÕt remember, if you follow NarakuÕs orders, you will just make it worse? You donÕt want to remember because you think itÕs your fault that you hurt us, but if you hurt me more, because you donÕt want to remember, whose fault is that? Kohaku, youÕll make everything worse! DonÕt you see?!
She gritted her teeth. IÕve got to make him realize that. I have to. Once he does he will stop it. He only doesnÕt want to remember because it is painful for him to know that he hurt us. ItÕll be more painful for him if he stays with Naraku and kills us! He should come back once he realizes that. He must!
Sango relaxed slightly. At least she figured out what Naraku meant. Her mind fluttered with thoughts of Kohaku remembering her. Of everything being all right. There was lots of noise behind her, and she turned around to investigate. Her insides went cold.
Inu-Yasha and Miroku were kicking angrily at crows. A death omen? Right before battle? Why! Why canÕt anything be good? She turned bitter, but she tried to cheer herself up. I know how to awaken Kohaku now. As long as I can wake him, everything should be all right. She knew otherwise, but she succeeded in cheering herself up slightly.
She suddenly realized how heavy Hiraikotsu was. She absent-mindedly stroked Kirara, thinking that Kirara was heavy also. She must be gaining weight. Darn, I canÕt do it, I canÕt walk anymore, I need to take a break. I need to hitch a ride. Inu-Yasha? No, thatÕs too embarrassing. She stroked Kirara again, and then realized that the answer was right in front of her face.
ÒKirara,Ó she said out loud. The cat knew what she meant and immediately changed into youkai form to let her ride. Everybody else stared at her, startled. She blushed crimson and hopped on, followed by everyone else. She was too embarrassed to notice that Inu-Yasha jumped on too. She felt as if everybody was still staring at her.
ÒI was getting sort of tired, so I decided to ride on Kirara. It is faster,Ó she hastily explained. Luckily nobody seemed to mind. She dimly noticed some type of arguement between Inu-Yasha and Shippo, which ended when Kagome scooped Shippo up.
I hope I can bring Kohaku back. It would really be a good day if I succeed, even if I die. No, I wonÕt die. Naraku will. They rode on a while in silence. Suddenly Kagome gave Sango a little nudge. She understood, and in turn nudged Kirara, who landed. Sango hopped off.
ÒWeÕre there,Ó Kagome said.
The piece of the Shikon no Tama swung around her neck in the breeze. She wanted nothing more than to throw it away. But I must complete it. That is my quest. Naraku has two of the last three shards, and one of them is in Kohaku.
But to complete it, I have to take it from Kohaku, and then Sango... I donÕt want to hurt her. I wish I can just go back to my time, and make sure the well doesnÕt work anymore, but that would be really selfish. And can I bear just leaving them all here.. to die?
I canÕt help wondering if we should have taken the shard from Kikyo first. Inu-Yasha said that if we did and lost, Naraku would have the whole Jewel. I know that makes sense, but still.. WeÕve never lost a battle before.
I wonder how Kikyo got that shard. Probably just found it lying around somewhere. God I wish I could just leave things as they are! IÕll hurt Sango if I collect all the shards, and thatÕs the last thing I want to do. IÕve learned my lesson. IÕve got to finish what I started. I shattered the Jewel, and it is my job to collect all the pieces.
Inu-Yasha and Miroku started kicking at some crows. Sango also stared at the crows, evidently angry. Kagome stared for a few moments in amazement, then turned away. Inu-Yasha is mad at some crows? I wonder why. She smiled sadly. Inu-Yasha has sure been on my mind a lot lately.
He only loves you because you are his loverÕs reincarnation. A voice in her head said. No, he isnÕt like that. She argued. Sango interrupted her arguement by saying, ÒKirara.Ó The cat transformed into youkai form and Sango climbed on. Kagome followed, with some help from Miroku and Shippo. Inu-Yasha remained standing on the ground.
ÒInu-Yasha, do you want to ride?Ó she asked. To her suprise, he jumped on. Kirara started off as Sango explained why she decided to ride Kirara. Inu-Yasha seemed as though he didnÕt hear, and Shippo poked him, ÒInu-Yasha, what are you thinking about?Ó
ÒNothing,Ó he said. Miroku prodded a bit more to see if he would tell, but she added that itÕs OK if he doesnÕt want to tell. He told them what he was thinking, but it was probably not the truth and she didnÕt bother to listen. Shippo unwisely commented and got bopped on the head.
ÒInu-Yasha, donÕt do that!Ó she said, and scooped Shippo up. I wish he could be a little nicer to me sometimes. HeÕs so nice to Kikyo. I love him. I know that much. He would even go to hell with Kikyo. She smiled again. Sadly. DonÕt worry, Inu-Yasha. I will never let you go. I would follow you anywhere. Even if you went to hell.
Kirara reached a clearing. Kagome sensed the aura of a shikon shard approaching at incredible speed from inside the woods. She knew that this was the place. She gave Sango a little nudge, and Sango landed Kirara. She got off and looked around.
ÒWeÕre here,Ó she said.
They climbed off Kirara, who changed back into a cat, and walked to the center of the clearing. Everybody was very tense. She could feel it. They formed a sort of circle facing outwards, and got ready for battle.
She notched a bow into her arrow, ready to aim and fire when the time comes. Inu-Yasha pulled out Tetsusaiga, transforming it into a blood red fang. Sango got Hiraikotsu into a easy position to strike. Miroku had four fingers on his staff. The other finger was locked around the prayer beads on his hand, ready to pull them off and unleash the tunnel. Shippo changed shapes, trying to find the one that will do most damage, and Kirara transformed into the more youkai form of herself.
Nobody moved. They waited, tense and ready.
