She immediately tightened her grip on Hiraikotsu, and saw the others doing the same. They waited a few moments, but nothing happened. She relaxed her grip on Hiraikotsu slightly.

Then everything around her burst into action.

Naraku burst out of the woods to her left, and Inu-Yasha jumped, sword out and ready, to meet him. Wind blades shot out from her right, and Miroku deflected them. She heard commotion behind her, but hadnÕt the time to investigate, for a sharp blade came out of the forest, headed straight towards her. She swung Hiraikotsu over, and heard the familiar sound of chains returning to its owner.

ÒKohaku!Ó she screamed, and chased into the forest after him. Luckily the forest wasnÕt too dense, and Hiraikotsu was still usable when needed. Kohaku faced her, his eyes cold. Suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her foot and looked down to see the blade swinging back to Kohaku.

No! IÕve got to make him remember. This isnÕt the Kohaku I know! He was always very timid. He would never hurt me! How could I wake him? Something snapped inside of her. I remember now! But... how am I going to break it to him?

ÒKohaku,Ó she pleaded, ignoring the blood that spurted out of her right ankle in torrents, ÒKohaku, donÕt you see?Ó Kohaku ignored her, and swung the blade around, aiming for her arm. She blocked it with Hiraikotsu, and looked into his eyes. The coldness in it brought her to hysterics.

ÒKOHAKU!Ó she screamed, summoning up all her strength, ÒItÕs not your fault that you killed Chichi-ue! Please! DonÕt you see what worse things youÕll do if you continue to listen to Naraku!?Ó She fell to the ground, sobbing. She saw Kohaku stumble slightly, but when she looked up, the cold, foreign look had returned to him.

She couldnÕt take it anymore, she grabbed Kohaku and forced him into a big, tight hug, taking him by complete suprise. ÒKohaku,Ó she sobbed into his hair, Ònobody blames you, please, return to yourself.Ó

Suddenly a small voice startled her. ÒAne-ue,Ó Kohaku whispered, ÒAne-ue.Ó

ÒOh, Kohaku,Ó she cried in joy, ÒKohaku!Ó

ÒAne-ue, youÕre bleeding!Ó he gasped. Sango smiled happily, ÒItÕs OK, Kohaku, you have healed me inside, and outside wounds donÕt matter anymore.Ó ÒNo,Ó he insisted, and held her back. He ripped off a piece of his clothing and bound her ankle until it stopped bleeding.

ÒThere!Ó he smiled. Sango smiled and walked over to see what the others were doing.

Inu-Yasha was battling Naraku, Kirara at his aid. He didnÕt exactly have the upper hand, but Naraku didnÕt either. Hanna was holding up her mirror and deflecting the arrows Kagome shot at Naraku. Kagura was shooting wind blades and defending Naraku, and Miroku was deflecting attacks from Kagura. She knew she had to go help them.

ÒKohaku,Ó she whispered, Òstay here, and stay out of sight. Hide if they come inside the forest. IÕm going to go help them.Ó

ÒAne-ue, no!Ó he said urgently, tugging at her sleeve. ÒDonÕt go battle Naraku. Ane-ue, heÕs too strong!Ó ÒItÕs OK,Ó Sango assured him, ÒJust stay here.Ó Before he could argue anymore, she jumped into the clearing.

ÒFuji no mai!Ó Kagura shouted, sending wind blades at her. She blocked it easily. ÒKukuku!Ó laughed Naraku, ÒI donÕt think youÕll defeat me anytime soon!Ó This angered Sango.

ÒHiraikotsu!Ó The boomerang sailed through the air at the same time as one of KagomeÕs arrows. Hanna blocked the arrow with her mirror, but the mirror shattered. Hiraikotsu sailed gracefully towards Naraku, forcing him to dodge. Inu-Yasha took advantage and swung Tetsusaiga at Naraku. Kirara tried to scratch him, but by then Naraku was already back on his feet.

Sango caught Hiraikotsu, and noted that Miroku was cut by the wind blades. She had no time to worry as Kagura shot more wind blades at Kagome.

ÒHiraikotsu!Ó The boomerang deflected most of the wind blades, and Sango watched in amazement as one of the blades turned and struck at Kagura, who blocked it with her fan. Kagura turned away to block a strike from MirokuÕs staff, and the wind blade winked at Sango and turned into a rock. Sango smiled at ShippoÕs antics, but was distracted as more wind blades flew towards her.

She had no weapon to defend herself. Hiraikotsu was still over by Kagome. She darted to the side, but the blades just followed her.

ÒKaza Ana!Ó Miroku shouted, and used the abyss to suck in the wind blades. Sango heard a buzzing noise and yelled over the noise, ÒDonÕt! The Saimyoushou are here!Ó She hoped Miroku heard her, and he seemed to, for he put the rosary over his hand.

She retreated into the woods. Her ankle was bleeding freely once more. Kohaku rushed to her side, but seeing her grim face changed his mind and wordlessly handed her his weapon. Sango nodded and charged into the clearing again, this time holding KohakuÕs weapon.

NarakuÕs puppet shot a tentacle out at her, and she dug the blade in deep. When had the puppet arrived? She looked over to see Miroku fighting it. It mustÕve arrived when she wasnÕt paying attention. She swung the chain around and wrapped it around Hiraikotsu, swinging it back towards her.

She caught it with one hand and swung the blade at the forest, letting go of the chain. ÒKohaku!Ó she shouted, hoping he was paying attention. She saw him dart out to get the blade, then retreat again. Good, he was OK.

Suddenly a ball of flame caught her eye. It was headed straight towards Kagome. ÒKagome! Watch out!Ó she screamed. Kagome turned around and came face to face with the ball of flame.

NO! Kagome canÕt die! Somebody, save her!

She was too far away to do anything, and Inu-Yasha was too busy with Naraku. Miroku.. Miroku? She looked around desperately. He had been lead into the woods by the puppet.

Nononononono!!! Please, donÕt die! Oh my gos.. Shippo?

Shippo jumped on top of Kagome, holding up a foxfire shield. The ball of energy hit, and he fell to the ground with Kagome, unconsious. Inu-Yasha had broken free of Naraku, and was rushing towards Kagome, as was Miroku and Kirara, who had both come out of the woods. ÔIs she okay?Õ Sango mouthed. ÔAliveÕ was Inu-YashaÕs reply, and with that he charged at Naraku. Sango was only dimly aware of him shouting, ÒKaze no Kizu!Ó and swinging at Naraku. Her eyes were fixed elsewhere.

Sango saw everything in slow motion. The tentacle coming out of the woods. It seemed so slow as it shot to the other end of the clearing, yet she could not do a thing to stop it. Just watched, heart frozen in terror, as it went in the forest, and came out with a Shikon shard on the end.

Sango was paralyzed. She didnÕt even feel it when some wind blades pierced her shoulder. She finally came to and raced to KohakuÕs hiding place as fast as possible. He was lying on the ground, and turned to meet her eyes.

ÒAne-ue, itÕs OK,Ó he gasped, ÒI should of died long ago, with Chichi-ue and the others.Ó

No, this canÕt be happening. Why!? NO!

She picked Kohaku up, and he smiled at her. Then his body went limp. She kept his last smile in her mind.

She gently put him down, ignoring the blood spurting from her shoulder, and picked up his weapon, which lay on the ground beside her in a bloody heap. She stared at his body, unbelieving. But it was true, and she was forced to believe it. As her mind registered the information, she went wild.

ÒKOHAKU!!!!!!!Ó she screamed, tears flowing down her cheeks. A cold hatred filled her, and she charged onto the clearing. She swung the blade at Naraku, ignoring the attacks from Hanna and Kagura. She let go, and it flew straight at Naraku. Hanna blocked it, once again shattering the mirror. A thought flashed across her mind.

When did she repair her mirror?

Sango was wild with rage. She swung Hiraikotsu blindly, and felt it connect with something. Kirara was blocking attacks for her, but Sango was too enraged to notice.
