Shippou's Tall Tales, You're Too Young To Understand part one
"What are you talking about?" The demon slayer spoke with confused frustration to the small group of unlistening friends.
The half demon stood stubbornly with his arms crossed while barking at the monk. The monk was gesturing frantically trying to calm the half demon down and occasionally glancing nervously at the female demon slayer who looked hurt and angry. The wolf demon was glaring back and forth at the monk and then the half dog with a disgusted look on his face. The young girl of the future moved in between the monk and half demon trying to stop the half demon from physically harming the other. A short distance away a tiny fox watched perched on a tree stump at the strange scene playing out before him. He didn't know when or how it all happened, just that suddenly the group of travellers had been walking and an apparently unwelcome visitor showed up. Then they all began arguing at the blink of an eye. He tried once to ask what was going on but was immediately shot down by the half demon and told to not worry about it by the futuristic girl.
With a huff he scrambled over to the large yellow back pack that had been tossed down beside the riding cycle in the commotion from the oddly dressed girl. He opened the flap and dug inside pulling out a box of brightly colored crayons, and sheets of blank white paper. Going to the nearby tree stump he sat and immediately began to draw what he saw. Giving each character an animal name to help him write faster he began to jot down notes on each picture from the little bits of conversation he managed to hear from the jumbled arguing.
The cat: "Calm down Inuyasha before you hurt someone."
The weasel: "She's right just calm down and let me explain."
The tiger: "Yes, please do. I think we'd all like to know what's going on."
The dog: "What's there to say you lying bastard!"
The cat: "Inuyasha!"
The dog: "What? Its not like it ain't true."
The wolf: "You're so pathetic mutt."
The cat: "Stay out of it Kouga."
The dog: "Grrr, you're still here, you must have some kind of death wish then. That, or you're stupider than you look."
The weasel: "Now Inuyasha please-"
The dog: "What you're defending this mangy wolf now? I can't believe you."
The tiger: "What does Kouga even have to do with this?"
The cat: "Oh Sango I'm so sorry."
The wolf: "What are you apologizing for Kagome its not your fault."
The dog: "Rrrr,"
The dog made a reach for the wolf who quickly stepped away. The cat grabbed the large red sleeve of the dogs arm holding him back. He shook her off and continued his stomping over to the wolf demon.
The cat: "Sit boy!"
The dog fell hard to the ground growling angrily but saying nothing and being momentarily paralyzed.
The wolf: "Thanks Kagom-"
The cat: "Don't you thank me you... you creep. He has every right to be mad at you." She turned her glare to the monkey. "Both of you."
The tiger: "Would someone please tell me what's going on?"
The weasel: "Sango I-"
Everyone stopped as the dog began to stand slowly. "I'm outta here."
The cat yelled after him. "Wait Inuyasha!" But it was too late, the dog was already running away angrily.
The tiger sighed heavily feeling confused. Not sure she wanted answers anymore. "He's right, I'm going too." She said before she turned to walk away with her faithful cub following at her heels.
"You don't know the whole story." The weasel desperately tried to hold her back by the arm. The tiger turned and slapped him good across the face pulling her arm free.
"I'm starting to put the pieces together." She jumped on her now full grown cub and they flew off.
"Sango wait!" Both the cat and monkey said together.
"You go find Inuyasha, I'll try to explain everything to Sango it is partially my fault for agreeing to keep this a secret in the first place." The cat said her voice was still bitter and tight striking fear into the weasel's eyes.
"Uh right. Thanks." They both separated going after the other two animals.
"Kagome wait!" The wolf called. The cat stopped and turned a mean look on him.
"Don't you talk to me right now Kouga. I can't believe you or Miroku. I mean what were you thinking?"
"Hey don't blame me for that monks uncontrollable urges. I was there looking for you that night and he... he tricked me."
"That's a pretty lame excuse ya know."
"Its not an excuse Kagome its the truth. Ask him yourself." The wolf desperately tried to plead his case and placed his arms on the cats shoulders but the cat turned pulling away.
"Ooh you men. You're are all alike!" The cat got on her bike and began riding quickly after her hurt tiger friend. The wolf took off seconds after in a different direction and the cute little fox was all alone.
Putting down his paper and crayons Shippou looked in both directions his friends had gone and decided against both. Instead he put his things back in the big yellow pack and began to drag it along the ground towards Kaede's place. 'I don't know what's going on but maybe Kaede will once I show her my pictures.'
^^^^^^^
After having showed Kaede each drawing while narrating the story, which he named "When Animals Attack" on his way to her, he stacked them all back in a pile and returned the paper to Kagome's bookbag. "And that's what happened." He concluded his story.
"Hm, I see." Old lady Kaede rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "That is very interesting,"
"Yeah?" The little fox's face brightened as he waited for her to clear up this mess for him.
"And puzzling."
"Oh." Shippou's shoulders slumped in defeat. "So you don't know what's going on?"
With a frown of concern Kaede turned away from the young boy going back to hanging her laundry on the line outside. "Weeell," She drawled. "I can't say for sure because I wasn't there but maybe if ye ask them, your friends will explain what's going on as best they can."
"I guess... but they all split up when the fight was over."
"Then ye should go after the one that appeared to be the center of the argument first."
"Huh...." Thinking back Shippou tried to remember who started the whole thing by replaying the cartoon like scene in his head with all the animal characters. 'Who started it....' A tiny finger tapped at his chin as he mentally saw them all walking when a white dog jumped from the group and started barking startling the rest of the animals. 'that was definitely Inuyasha, as usual, but he only lost it when Kouga showed up,' Next Shippou imagined a whirlwind coming towards the group and a wolf appeared when the dust cleared, he greeted the cat as he usually did then the dog jumped out and started barking. 'But the entire time everyone was really focused on Miroku.' He replayed the scene from the beginning and this time after the group of animals were startled by the barking dog they all began fighting with each other until the weasel spoke up. Then his mind watched them all turn on the weasel. The cornered weasel was shrinking down as the other animals towered over him with angry glares and teeth showing. 'Yeah they were definitely mad at Miroku most of all.'
"I got it!" He announced once his mental cartoon ended. Kaede watched Shippou dig through the large yellow back pack and she barely heard his muffled voice as he spoke to her. "Thanks Kaede. I'll be back and let you know what I find out."
With a chuckle the old woman watched the small demon child emerge from the pack and run off with new sheets of blank paper in hand and crayons. "Very well and don't ye worry while you're away. I'll take care of Kagome's things for you." She called after him. The little fox waved his paper in the air as a sign of thanks. Kaede shook her head knowing only disaster would come from his venture.
"Some things a child just shouldn't know about and teenaged troubles are one of them." She spoke to herself while carrying the heavy yellow bag inside of her small cottage.

Miroku ran after Inuyasha as fast as he could but couldn't keep up with the half demon especially an angry half demon. So he slowed himself to a stop giving up on the chase and went to sit by the river. It was probably better for his safety to just let Inuyasha cool off before trying to explain anything to him. Miroku sat heavily on the grass, "Damn." and stabbed the end of his staff into the dirt letting it go while it supported itself in the ground. He stared over into the water at his miserable reflection and frowned.
"I can't believe he knew all this time and never said anything." He thought back to the previous week when Inuyasha took Kagome home on the night of the new moon. He didn't want the hanyou to go but it was for the best to keep everyone safe and they all agreed. If only his lower region had agreed as well he wouldn't be in this mess right now. If only Kouga hadn't showed up that night reminding his lower half of why it really didn't want Inuyasha gone that night. If only he didn't give into that primal need and with Kouga of all people knowing how he and Inuyasha feel about each other, what the hell was he thinking?
He tried to remember the days after that night when Inuyasha returned from Kagome's world. The day after he sort of slept with Kouga. He never noticed the hanyou acting strangely towards him during those days, nothing out of the ordinary anyway. And when Inuyasha did seem to be bitter or distant with him, Miroku figured it was just to keep up their secret of not being a couple from the others. He had no idea that the other knew about Kouga and what happened. That would explain why the half dog never let him get too close to him, even when they were in private. It also explains why Inuyasha just blew up earlier when the wolf prince showed up. Now everyone was confused and upset and it was all his fault.
"Way to go stupid, you've really screwed up now." He fell backward to lie on the ground and began taking deep breaths in hopes of relaxing his mind. It didn't work. 'Poor Sango. She'll be heartbroken if Kagome tells her everything. The secret Inuyasha and I kept, what happened with Kouga and why Inuyasha's mad in the first place. There's no way to explain it without giving the whole story; she's gonna hate me for this.' He grabbed at his few strands of bangs in frustration. 'And Inuyasha's hard enough as it is to calm down and talk to but on top of that I've got Kouga to deal with now.'
Closing his eyes Miroku couldn't lie to himself. He'd been thinking about the wolf since that night. The way he looked and felt and how he acted. The more he thought about him the more Kouga began to remind him of Inuyasha. Both of them sharing traits that appealed to the monk physically and personaility wise.
"Boy I really am screwed up."
"Oh yeah about what?" The monk yelped at the sudden intrusion of peace and knocked the little noise maker to the ground when he sat up.
"Geez Shippou you shouldn't sneak up on people like that." Straightening out Miroku faced the other who was also righting himself from the fall. The monk's vision caught sight of the items scrambled on the ground beside the forgotten little fox. He eyed the drawing equipment Shippou began to pick up with question. "What are you up to?"
"Trying to figure out what's got everyone so upset. And the crayons are to take notes so I can show Kaede so she can help you guys sort this mess out."
'Oh right Shippou was there too wasn't he. Must have forgotten about him in the commotion.'
"So tell me everything and start at the top." He sat himself down on a large stone a few feet away from the water but still in close range to Miroku and readied a fresh piece of paper and a purple crayon. He and Miroku stared at each other for a moment in silence before the monk broke into a small fit of laughter. The sight of Shippou looking serious and ready to give a therapy session was too much.
"You're kidding right?" Miroku asked after beginning to sober up.
"No, I mean it Miroku. You guys are upset and its breaking up the group that I'm a part of remember? So I have a right to know."
The monk sighed. "Shippou you're too young to understand right now. So don't worry about it. This is my problem and I'll find a way to fix it." Miroku stood and walked over patting the fox's little puff of hair.
"Ah come on," Shippou began getting the whine in his voice he often had when he was upset or afraid. "I'm worried about you guys." With the whine he started to get teary eyed. "I've seen you and Inuyasha fight before and you and Sango, even Inuyasha and Kouga but its never been like this." A few sniffles and a little paw wiping away a fallen tear and Miroku was caught. The monk heaved a sigh and gave in.
"Alright...."
Shippou mentally sneered. 'Heh heh works everytime.'
Miroku was silent and still trying to think of a simple and clean way to explain what was going on to the little guy without being too personal or detailed. After having countless warnings from the girls to watch his mouth around Shippou he was finally going to listen. It might actually come in handy now to spare the boy a little trauma. In the backround an excited Shippou got ready to listen and draw when Miroku seemed to be done thinking. "Well,.... Inuyasha and I did some things a long time ago and then made a serious desicion about what we'd done and kept it a secret from everyone,"
"Uh-huh."
"and then I made the mistake of doing that same thing with Kouga, just not as serious and I kept it from Inuyasha now he's upset."
"Uh-huh."
"Because no one knew what Inuyasha and I did or what Kouga and I did until now they're all upset that I kept it a secret and now that its out I'm going to be in a lot of trouble."
Shippou stopped drawing and looked up to see Miroku staring back at him. "Is that it?"
"... I guess, di- did you actually understand any of that?"
"Sure even though it was vague but once I find the others they can fill in the blanks." Without another word Shippou dropped down from his rock and ran off only to stop half way and turn back. "Uh.... do you know where Inuyasha went?"
Dumbfounded Miroku pointed in the direction he last saw the hanyou travelling in and with a thanks Shippou transformed into his giant pink balloon, and carefully balancing the paper and crayons on top of him, he floated off. Knowing it was a bad idea to send Shippou after the upset half dog Miroku was too stunned from what just happened to do anything about it.
Shaking his head he sat back down to try and think of a way out of this that wouldn't end up getting him killed.
^^^^^^^
Inuyasha ran through the trees nearly breaking the branches he landed on, anger weighing heavily on him. "Shit." Stopping and landing on the ground he turned around to stare at the giant tree in front of him. It immediately came back to him, the area, that specific tree. He'd come here once before when he was upset and this was the spot Miroku first approached him with the crazy idea of being trying a relationship. He glared at the wide trunk of the tree, flashes flooded his memory of the things Miroku did to him that first time. Closing his eyes tight he cursed the tree and turned away from it. His mind wanted to leave and keep running but his legs refused to move so he sat heavily on the ground making sure, though, to not lean back against the wood. Too many memories.
"Damn Miroku, stupid Kouga! Damn it all!" His fist hit the ground in front of his crossed feet and stayed there. Glaring at the grass beneath him he swore under his breath.
"I can't believe I let him talk me into this. I mean he's Miroku for fuck sake. All he does is lie and cheat." Slamming his hands down again he raises his head. "Can't believe I was so stupid."
"You are pretty dumb but atleast this isn't your fault for once."
"The hell?" Inuyasha's head shot to the right to see Shippou standing a few feet away from him, arms full of papaer and those drawing sticks Kagome had brought from home. "Where'd you come from?"
"Doesn't matter I need to ask you some stuff."
Rolling his golden eyes Inuyasha mutters. "I don't need this crap right now," He raised his voice to finish. "so why don't'cha get lost!"
"I'll let that pass since you're obviously upset. Now tell me what happened back there. Why were you and Miroku arguing?" Sitting in the grass the little fox set up his paper and crayon of choice to start drawing.
With a bitter but humorous glare the hanyou said. "You've gotta be kidding me. Go bug someone else."
"I can't. They all separated because of the fight you started."
"Oh yeah, that."
"Right now tell me what happened so I can help." Shippou was only met with a blank stare. "Rrr, why won't you guys take me seriously?" He pouted.
"You're too young to understand." The hanyou explained simply.
Seeing the stubborness surface in the half demon Shippou knew he had to play dirty. "Well Miroku didn't seem to think so." This got the others attention. "Yup he told me everything."
Inuyasha's voice came out on a hitch. "H- he did."
'Heh heh heh gotcha.' "Yup everything."
"Oh really," The hanyou sounded peeved even more than before. "Probably a bunch of lies to make himself seem innocent."
"Well I'll never know unless you give me the real story."
Inuyasha stalked over to where Shippou sat and dropped himself down in front of him. "Fine, why don't I just do that. Not gonna have that monk spreading lies making me look bad."
Shippou went to work with the paper while trying to keep up and understand what Inutasha barking out. It was apparently a sore spot for the dog demon to talk about but for th emost part he was saying things Miroku had said himself.
"And he had the nerve to tell me to calm down! Why? Shouldn't I be upset? And that damn Kouga this is all his fault!" A sudden blast of energy shot across the ground scaring the little fox up off the ground.
"Hey! Geez Inuyasha watch what you're doing." At some point during the angry rant Inuyasha had drawn the Tetsusaiga and released a windscar on the undeserving forest in front of him.
"Yeah sorry. Look are we done here?"
Shippou frowned, nothing Inuyasha said really explained why they were all fighting in the first place. Just that he was mad at Miroku and Kouga and whatever happened started some time ago but the trouble really began the night of the new moon when Inuyasha left for Kagome's world. It wasn't enough to go on but it did give him an idea of who to talk to next.
"Yeah I guess."
"Good beat it. And if ya see that monk again tell him he can go jump off a cliff for all I care!"
"Harsh." Gathering his materials Shippou headed in the direction he'd just come from. 'This is gonna be harder than I thought. Maybe I'll have better luck with Kouga.'
