Chapter 5
Kagome woke up suddenly with sweat streaming down her face and panic streaming through her mind. She had woken up from the same nightmare as before but the thing that had been following her had killed Inuyasha. She felt as if the dream was true.
Kagome shot out of bed and ran to the painting, forgetting her slippers. She ran through the hall and down the stairs. When she came to the canal she dove in and started swimming to where Inuyasha's home was. Fifteen minutes later she saw the ledge where his home was. She climbed out of the water and screamed, “Inuyasha! Inuyasha! Inuyasha! Inuyasha!” She couldn't stop screaming his name. She was so afraid that he wouldn't be there to answer her call.

Inuyasha was suddenly woken up by someone climbing out of the water at the ledge and a few seconds later heard his name being screamed by Kagome. Inuyasha was so confused that he thought that he was dreaming. When the screaming continued he could tell that he wasn't dreaming. He jumped out of his bed and ran to Kagome. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight.

Kagome felt hands wrapping around her and screamed even louder, “YOU KILLED MY INUYASHA! GET OFF ME! INUYASHA! INUYASHA! INUYASHA!”
Inuyasha held her even tighter and whispered, “It is your Inuyasha. It is me. I am here for you. I am not dead. I am here Kagome. I am here,” Inuyasha said. He repeated himself until he felt her calming down. She suddenly turned around and hugged him back.
“I thought you were dead. I thought that I would never be able to see you again. I thought that you were dead,” Kagome cried into his chest. He felt her warm tears against his bare chest and hugged her tighter. He tried to comfort her as much as he could.
“Kagome, do you want to stay here for the rest of the night?” Inuyasha asked.
Kagome sobbed and whispered, “Yes. Don't leave me.”
Inuyasha thought for a moment and then said, “Do you want to sleep in my bed with me?”
“Yes. I don't want to ever have that dream ever again. It was horrible,” Kagome said.
Inuyasha held Kagome even closer before he let go and took hold of her hand. He brought her over to the bed and picked her up. He placed her on the bed and then jumped over her, getting in the bed himself. He then covered them with the deep velvet blanket.
“Better?” Inuyasha asked.
“Much,” Kagome replied.
Inuyasha lay on his back and pulled Kagome onto his chest, wrapping his arms around her. Kagome laid her head on his chest and put her hands on his chest next to her head. They fell asleep almost immediately, holding each other in their arms.

Inuyasha woke up to the sight of his precious Kagome lying on his chest. He pulled the blankets up farther and noticed that Kagome had never changed out of her wet clothing. The bed was somewhat damp, but Inuyasha didn't mind since he was now holding his Kagome.
He tried not to wake her up but once he was awake, she opened her eyes and smiled at him. Her smile made him smile and be happy.
“You know what you have never told me?” Kagome said.
“What?” Inuyasha asked.
“Why you have those ears and why you are down here,” she replied picking her head off her chest so she could look into his eyes.
“This will be long so try not to interrupt. I have these ears because my father was a demon and my mother was a human. Therefore I am half human and half demon. A long time ago, there was a battle and the humans banished the demons. My father was killed protecting my mother so she kept me and never told anyone that I was a half demon. When my mother died people found out that I was the son of the great Lord of the Western Lands. Then I came here and have been here since. I was very young the day you were born but heard of it. When I learned my way around the castle I would sometimes watch you through my secret passage ways,” Inuyasha exclaimed.
“I don't know what to say,” Kagome said. “Have I met you before? Like when we were young? How much older then me are you? Were you there during the battle?”
“You've seen me before, like in the town and when you were little I played in the courtyard with you one time. I don't think that you remember me though. I was not there during the battle. My father survived the battle and years later, he died the day I was born. I am only seventeen,” Inuyasha answered, running his hands over her back.
Kagome put her head back on his chest and sighed, “I didn't think that you were only a year older then me. I thought that you were older. I remember hearing about the battle in my studies. Sango didn't believe that it was true, bit I know that I did.”
“Well, your laying on living proof that it was true,” Inuyasha laughed. Kagome giggled and yawned.
“I'm so comfortable right now. I could stay like this forever. Surprisingly, you make a good pillow,” Kagome snickered.
“Aw thanks, Kagome. Half demons are good for more then just scaring people and fighting,” Inuyasha said.
“I know, I know,” Kagome said. And with that, the couple fell back into slumber.

Yet again, Inuyasha was the first to wake up. He thought to himself for a moment, `I can't believe that she wasn't surprised when I told her that I was a half demon. She seemed to have no noticeable reaction to it. Can life get any better right now?' He looked at the sleeping girl in his arms and smiled to himself. She looked so cute in her sleep, with her arms around him and her head on his chest. He fell back asleep thinking of the girl that he had so suddenly given his heart to.

Sango walked down the hallway to Kagome's room. She still hadn't been found, but Sango had a feeling that she was safe and that she was somewhere in the castle. When she entered the room she was surprised to find that the bed had been slept in.
She heard someone enter the room and felt hands wrap around her waist. Then she heard Miroku's voice, “So she was here.”
Sango turned around and looked up at the servants face. Since, for the last few days, Kagome had been in her own world, she had really gotten to know Miroku. And, though he had wandering hands, he seemed like a good man.
“I don't think that we should be in her room,” Sango suggested.
“Ok,” Miroku said with a sly smile. Sango felt a hand slip to her butt. In a split second, Miroku was lying on the ground, hand rubbing his cheek and Sango was standing above him.

Down in the vaults, Inuyasha and Kagome were finally awake. They were lying on their backs on the bed and staring at the ceiling.
“What do you think will happen if you come to the ball?” Kagome asked.
“Well, I would definitely have to wear a hat,” Inuyasha replied. Then he remembered something. That was the night of the new moon. It didn't matter if he wore a hat because he would temporarily be a human. For a second he debated whether or not to tell her. “Kagome?”
“Yes.”
“This may come as a surprise but on every new moon, I transform from my half demon form to a human form. The ball is on the night of the new moon so this may work out,” Inuyasha explained.
Kagome rolled onto her stomach and looked at the half demon. “You mean that you can actually come and you don't have to hide yourself?”
“Yes. I will be able to come,” Inuyasha answered.
“We have to get ready. The ball is tonight. I want to surprise you. What will you look like?” Kagome asked, sounding like an eager little child.
“I want to surprise you, too.” Inuyasha said.
