Chapter 14
Unexpected Events

“Ai Shiteru, Inuyasha…” was the whisper he heard back as his eyes widened. “Kagome?!” he screamed, turning to the futon again. What he saw made his eyes water and his heart leap.
“Kagome…” he whispered, staring as she sat up and winced. He rushed to her side, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to him. “Gods, how are you - Why are you - How the hell did you get back?” he stuttered, holding her gently.
“Too tight…” she breathed and he immediately let go of her. “I don't really understand what happened,” she breathed out, visibly exhausted, “but I can stay here for a little while…” she clutched her side, “but I have to feel these horrible wounds…”
“How long?” Inuyasha asked softly.
“Not too long…” she whispered brokenly.
“What can I do to make you feel better?” he asked, torn between wanting to hold her and kiss her, and laying her down to make her feel better.
“Just stay with me…”
“We're bringing you back…” he said with a smile.
“Huh?” came her confused reply.
“Sesshomaru is helping me. We're going to defeat Naraku, get all the shards - I'll kill Koga if I have to, to get his shards - but we're getting that damn jewel back together and getting you back!” he said, his voice determined.
Kagome smiled, bringing her hand up to hold his face. “You'll never change, will you?”
“Do you want me to?” he asked hesitantly.
“No…” she said as she tried to shake her head, “Never… I love you as you are, Inu -”
He cut her off, pressing his lips to hers softly. Scared to hurt her, he brought his hands up to hold her face gently. His warm lips moved slowly over her inexperienced ones as he drowned in her taste, in her love.
The kiss didn't last long as she started to fall back into unconsciousness.
“Kagome…?” Inuyasha breathed as he looked into her eyes.
“I'll be waiting…” she murmured softly.
“I love you…” he said again, hoping she would say it back, just once.
“I love you too…” was her broken reply as she closed her eyes, sighing one last time.
“Kagome… I'll get you back, Koibito…” he said, pressing his lips to hers one last time…

It was the middle of the night when Sesshomaru awoke from his light slumber. He sniffed the air deeply, getting up from his futon. In a second, he was in front of Inuyasha's door. He blasted it open, finding the hanyou up and sniffing the air as well.
“Wolf youkai,” he stated coldly.
“Hai. It's the tribe leader. You've met him once, haven't you? Koga.”
“Hai, I've met him…” Sesshomaru nodded. “But we mustn't lose time.”
They both ran silently to the doors, where Koga was arriving.
“Inuyasha!” he raged as he hurled himself onto the hanyou, knocking him down and flexing his claws as he glared at him.
“What the fuck?!” Inuyasha growled.
“She's dead! You fucking let her die!” he screamed.
“Get off of me, Koga,” Inuyasha said calmly while his brother just stared at them both.
“I'll kill you!” Koga raged, “I'll fucking rip you to pieces!”
“Enough,” sounded an icy voice.
“You fuck off!” the wolf demon yelled, his eyes not leaving Inuyasha. “You killed her, you baka!”
“GET OFF!” Inuyasha yelled, pushing the wolf off forcefully. Koga landed a few feet away, getting up a second later.
“Finally decided to fight back, mutt?” Koga taunted. “Kagome isn't here to sit you anymore!”
“Shut up, wolf shit!” Inuyasha glowered at him.
“I won't shut up until you're dead!” he retorted.
“I know it's my fault she died!” Inuyasha said seriously, “but she died to save me, when I tried all I could to dissuade her from it!”
“You're not worth her dying for you!” was the wolf's outraged reply.
“I know that!” Inuyasha snapped. “I was completely helpless to save her, and I know that's my fault!”
“Exactly! And I'm gonna kill you for it!”
“Listen to me, Koga. We're going to defeat Naraku and get the shikon jewel and revive Kagome. I need you to help.”
Koga froze, glaring at the hanyou hesitantly, then switching his gaze to the bored-looking Inu youkai next to him.
“Why should I trust you?” he barked.
“You don't have to,” Inuyasha replied. “I know you hate me, but you care about Kagome and I know you want her to live.”
Koga stared at the brothers silently, and then nodded his head. “But I'll only give you my shards after this thing is over, when they're the only ones left!”
“Good enough,” Inuyasha said coldly, “But know that I'll kill you to get them if I have to.”
“You won't have to, as long as you use the jewel for Kagome,” Koga retorted and the hanyou nodded.
“How very touching,” Sesshomaru said dismissively, “but we should get a move on. We're leaving at dawn.”
All three men went their separate ways; Sesshomaru to see Rin, Inuyasha to get Sango and Miroku, and Koga to the forest.

“Get up, you two,” Inuyasha ordered, his tone unreadable as he opened the sliding door of Miroku's room. What he found inside made him smile. There they were both, cuddled up on the futon, the scent of tears still lingering in the air.
Their eyes opened as the first layers of the sun blinded them for a second. “Inuyasha?” Miroku grunted as he got up slightly.
“Yeah, it's me. Wake up and move. We're leaving in a little while,” came the grave reply.
It felt like they were going on a mission - they were, actually. They were going to defeat Naraku together, as Kagome had always wanted. Inuyasha silently watched his friends get up. He was thankful for them always being there and helping him out. “Where's Shippo?” he suddenly realized he hadn't seen the kit in a while.
Sango's head snapped up. She hadn't seen him either.
Inuyasha suddenly started sniffing. “I'll go get him,” he said sternly. The hanyou ran out, and in a second was outside. “Shippo!” he called. When no one answered, he walked to a tree. “Come down, I know you're there.”
Reluctantly, the baby kitsune jumped down the tree, landing a few feet in front of Inuyasha.
“What do you want?” he asked slowly.
“We're going to kill Naraku and get the shards,” he informed the little one, looking away.
Shippo nodded. “I'm not going with you, am I?” he asked with a sigh.
“No,” Inuyasha answered. “You would get hurt.”
Shippo nodded again, and Inuyasha turned to walk away. But as he was walking, he heard a few words that broke his heart. “It's your entire fault, Inuyasha… I hate you.”
The hanyou clenched his fists, pretending he hadn't heard anything, and walked back inside to go over things with his brother.
He was going to do this, he could do this.

Sorry for the late update… But hey, I had promised I would get it out by Xmas, right? So here it is! Merry Xmas everyone, and Happy New Year! I hope it's a good one for everyone.
I'm still figuring out whom to choose to be my new beta reader…
By the way, I got a LiveJournal, and if I have any FF.net /MM.org friends on it, I'll talk about my writing.
My username is tinii0520, feel free to add me if you want to.
SPECIAL THANKS TO: BlackParade for all those reviews.
I decided to have special thanks for every chapter I write.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: I was wondering if I should skip all the battles, since I probably totally suck at writing them… Or if anyone would like to help me?
Thanks to all my reviewers, and again, Merry Xmas, Happy New Year (and happy Hanukah for all you Jewish people out there…)
Alright so that's it for my long, stupid AN.
