The Last Straw

Sango didn't know what to think of Miroku's comforting words before she left. She felt a strange tingling in the pit of her stomach as she remembered his kind words. 'You don't deserve it, Sango…' He had whispered before she left.
Sango sighed when she realized how quick the walk had been. She slowly made her way up the steps, and opened the front door. She was hoping to see her father watching T.V. If he wasn't there, that might mean… she gasped. He wasn't there.
"Kohaku! " a worried whimper escaped her lips.
For as long as Sango could remember. If she was a bad girl, she had to get punished. Her father would take her to his 'punishing room', (the garage), and he would punish her, unbearably! He had all sorts of 'tools'. He had never used the really scary ones on her, but he always threatened to.
As she got older, she learned which ones hurt most, and what they did. These punishments were always directed towards Sango, but when she got home from school one day, she saw burns on Kohaku's arm. She asked him what happened, but he didn't respond. He sat motionless, just staring into space.
Seeing Kohaku like this…made her want to kill her father. She felt guilty about her anger, but she still couldn't help but see herself in her little brother. His father had burnt a hole right through his heart…like he had done to Sango so many years ago.
Sango stood in the doorway. She had dropped her purse. Kohaku was being punished. She knew it. Her father was always sitting on the sofa watching television. It was either that or the bathroom. She saw that the bathroom door was wide open, and she lost control. She ran. She ran to the 'punishing room'.

Miroku had just thanked Sesshomaru for inviting him, and he began to walk towards his car. Just as Miroku took out his keys, something caught his attention next door. 'Sango…?' She was running. She looked as if she would faint any second, and he saw rage burning in her beautiful brown eyes.
Miroku immediately suspected that sick bastard of a father was involved, so Miroku walked behind a nearby tree, and watched the gorgeous girl as she worked on the locks of the garage. If he saw that she was in any trouble, he would immediately jump in, and drive her away.

Sango reached the damn garage, and fiddled nervously with the locks. "Gods, be safe, Kohaku!" She said under her breath, as she threw up the garage door. She was just in time to see Kohaku crying painfully as a lit cigar made contact with his delicate skin.
Sango found herself frozen. Not able to move. To speak. She gasped for breath. Kohaku! That bastard was hurting her brother! This was something she was hoping not to see. Suddenly her father's cold gaze snapped her out of her paralyzed state.
"D-Daddy!?" She gasped, as he threw Kohaku down, and made his way to a trembling Sango. She tried to move her feet, but couldn't. "Sango, what the hell are you doing?" He growled, as he wrapped a strong hand around her wrist throwing her into the garage.
Miroku couldn't believe his eyes. He had watched Sango, curiously as she opened the garage door. What he saw he wasn't ready for. It was abuse! He was torturing a poor boy with a cigar. Miroku figured that was Sango's little brother. This must've been what motivated her to act out like that.
Miroku found his feet moving to save the girl who was violently thrown into the garage.
Sango saw her father's fist coming, and shut her eyes waiting for the impact. She waited. Nothing. She opened one eye to see that her father was pinned to the ground. There was a struggle between her father, and… "Miroku?" She then saw Kohaku watching with his eyes wide as the two men fought.
"Kohaku!" She called gesturing for him to come to her. Miroku finally had her father in a hold. "Sango!" He called to the girl, who was clutching onto her little brother. With a single motion he tossed his car keys to her. "You and your brother get in my car!" She nodded, and led her little brother to the car.
Miroku got Sango's father in an impossible hold. "Don't try to move, or I'll break your neck!" Miroku warned. "I'm going to knock you unconscious in a minute, but before I do…" He turned the sick man to look in his eyes.
"If you ever lay a finger on Sango, or that boy again I swear to God, I'll kill you!" He warned in a dark tone. "You sick bastard! Do you know what the fuck you put your kids through?" The man just looked at Miroku with a look of defeat. With that, Miroku pushed on a pressure point in the man's neck, causing the man to collapse to the ground.

Miroku stumbled to his car. Damn, that asshole got some good shots in. He opened the door to the driver's seat, and got in. He turned to look at the two in the back seat. He saw the boy eye him nervously, and Sango was stroking the boy's hair, in concern.
"Did he hurt you badly?" She asked quietly, examining his arm. Now, Miroku wanted Sango to bear his children even more! He admired the maturity in her voice. The motherly concern in her eyes. The boy just nodded, sadly, and she hugged him.
Sango then noticed Miroku gazing at her, and she blushed. "Koharu, this is a friend of mine, Miroku." She said, smiling at Miroku sweetly. Miroku returned the smile. "Hey, buddy!" He greeted the kid. "Hey, I'm taking you somewhere where your father can't hurt you alright?"
Koharu nodded at him. "You're a pretty tough kid, Kohaku" He added, making Koharu slightly smile. Sango held her brother the whole way, and Miroku gazed admiringly at her in the mirror at the beauty.
"So, where are we going?" Sango asked.
"I suppose my house, for now." Miroku said.
"Are you going to get in trouble?" She asked him.
Miroku thought back to the fear in the man's eyes when he had threatened him.
"I highly doubt it…" He answered.

Kagome was polishing the last of the furniture in Sesshomaru's bedroom. She was staring at a rather interesting statue when Sesshomaru's voice startled her. "What happened with your friend and Miroku?" He asked. He had been laying on his bed, watching her tidy up. She glanced over at him.
Kagome began to explain to Sesshomaru what happened, and he listened with fascination. "I see…" He said. Suddenly Kagome's cell phone rang, and she dug through her purse. Finally she took it out, and put the phone to her ear.
"Hello?" Sesshomaru listened to Kagome with concern. "Sango, hey-…what?…You're where?!…He what!?…Okay, bye!" Her eyes were wide, and her face went pale. "Sesshomaru…" She said, in a shocked tone. "Y-You won't believe what happened!"
