Chapter 3
Running her hands through her hair, Kagome was waiting in her room for Sango to come. She had asked one of the maids to call Sango to her room five minutes ago and she was starting to get very anxious waiting for her. She paced back and forth in front of the bed and finally she heard the door creak open and Kagome looked up to see Sango poke her head in.
“What’s wrong, Kagome?” Sango walked over to her and held her forearms. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Oh what am I saying!? I can’t take being here Sango! It’s only been two days and I already want to go jump out that window!” Kagome pointed back at the window.
“He’s cruel, insane, violent! He cares nothing for anyone! I can’t live the rest of my life with him!” She thought about actually having to live the rest of her life with him and then noticed how miserable she’d be, she’d probably commit suicide the day before the wedding! If she couldn’t already stand two days how was she going to stand the rest of her life?!
Sango shook her slightly, “Kagome calm down please. Listen to me. Everything’s going to be okay, alright? Don-”
“No, no! Everything is NOT going to be okay!” Kagome was hyperventilating by now and Sango had to make her sit down on the bed to let her breath. She rubbed her back and whispered reassurances to her.
Then she started to cry. Kagome laid her head down on Sango’s lap and she caressed her hair. Never had she seen her best friend so broken and mad. Kagome was not the type to be that way, she was always happy and smiling. It took a lot of mental and physical torture to have her break down like this.
Then to make things worse, Inuyasha stepped into the room then. Stopping in his tracks as he saw the scene in front of him.
Sango glared at him furiously and he just stared at her blankly, not fazed at all by her rudeness.
“Get out of here,” Kagome mumbled as she looked up at him with a tear streaked face. She got up and her fists balled up, “I hate you. You should go to hell.”
“I thought you said you had to be strong, this isn’t being strong.” Was all he said to her and she flared then, her insides heating up.
Like a bomb, she exploded “YOU BASTARD! YOU KNOW WHAT? I TAKE IT BACK! I’LL BE THE ONE TO LEAVE!” Her yell finally got through to him and his face was no longer blank. It had finally cut through him that he’d hurt her, badly.
She pushed past him and ran out the door, leaving him standing in the room with Sango.
After a few minutes of trying to understand what happened he heard Sango sit up abruptly and he looked at her.
“Excuse me, your highness.” She said brusquely, as she swiftly made her way out the room.

Outside Kagome ran through the gardens and through the main path out to the gates to get out of the castle grounds. Pushing her way through the gates she ran and ran until she hit the village.
Then she stopped to lean against a brick wall and clutched her sides trying to catch her breath. What the Prince had told her echoed in her ears, which only mad her even more mad at him.
Her fist connected with the wall as she punched it, trying to release her anger on the innocent structure. Then she noticed it wasn’t a brick wall, it was a statue of an angel. She looked around and saw she was in the village square, next to the well where the villagers got their water.
Walking over to the well slowly, she looked over the rim and saw nothing but black and a small twinkle of light reflecting off the waters surface.
She turned her back and kept walking down the road. Noticing that she still wore her thin nightgown she hugged herself, trying to keep the chill of night away from her warmth. She kept walking, not daring to go back until she noticed someone walking behind her.
She quickened her pace ever so slightly, and noticed that he had quickened his pace also to match hers. He was but a couple feet behind and she was starting to get very edgy and started to walk a little faster, in a sort of half sprint.
She turned a corner and let out a sigh of relief that was quickly turned into a scared squeak as she ran into a mans chest. She stumbled back and almost fell but the man that had been following her from behind grabbed her forearms and straightened her. Her head smashed against the wall and she swayed slightly, and her vision blurred a little as she started to get nervous.
“’Ello lovely.” The man behind her whispered into her ear and she smelt liquor dripping off of every word. The man squeezed Kagome’s arms slightly and pushed her up against the wall while the man from before seemed like he was watching out for anyone coming.
“Ey, I better get a turn!” The man watching grunted at the man holding Kagome against the wall. She started to panic and didn’t know what to do. She should’ve known something like this would happen if she left at this time of night.
The man pushed up on her and his face was only inches away from her and she turned her head stubbornly as she tried thrashing around and trying to loosen the grip he had on her. He grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him and she spit in his face.
“You bloody bitch!” She heard him yell as he let go of one of her hands to slip a small dagger out of his pocket and sliced the top part of her nightgown, letting one side of the dress slip slightly revealing her naked shoulder. She yelped and he clamped his hand over her mouth and started to raise the bottom of her dress and she bit down on the inside of his hand.
He jumped back and yelled profanities at her than slapped her across the face so hard she fell to the ground.
He towered over her and she could tell what was going to happen next. Though, she was already to weak in the head from that slap and she didn’t have to strength to do anything to stop him.
But right before he had the chance to do anything at all she heard the watch man yell and then a thud as he fell to the ground. She looked over quickly and noticed someone in a dark cloak jump over the man on the floor and land a punch right on the other mans left eye, sending him flying back and slamming against the wall.
The dark cloaked man swept her up and took off running away from the dark ally to the safe light up streets.
Kagome held onto him for dear life as he ran through the streets and when she looked up at him his cloak had been swept back by the wind and saw that it was Inuyasha, the Prince, that had come to her rescue.
She smiled slightly to herself and then buried her face into his chest and let herself doze off as he ran back to the castle with her in his arms.

Kagome awoke the next morning to the Prince next to her staring at her face. She gasped loudly and sat straight up, then her head started to swirl. She put her hand up against her forehead and then felt another hand push her gently back down to lay again.
“Don’t strain yourself.” She looked over at him.
“What happened…” Was all she could manage to say and she noticed that her voice was very hoarse and her throat hurt. She could feel a throbbing pain somewhere in the back of her skull and whimpered and closed her eyes.
Her eyes shot up when she felt his hand against her head moving slowly down and then back up. She stared at him wide eyed and thought for one second that maybe she was dreaming but then noticed that she’d never have a dream about him. Though maybe after this she’d be attacked viciously by them.
“Don’t worry about it…” He answered her question from before that she forgot she was waiting to be answered.
He looked so relaxed, not the cold blooded Prince that he always acted like. He was actually being nice to her, and she liked it.
But he was fighting with himself in his mind, wanting to yell at her for her recklessness but was holding himself back. She already looked like she was in enough pain. He decided to make both sides fighting against each other happy.
“Are you stupid? You should’ve known something like that was going to happen. You were almost…” He couldn’t bring himself to continue.
She sighed and looked away, down at the comforter noticing that they were both in his bed.
“I was mad,” Kagome looked up at him then, “I don’t pay attention to the things I do or… say when I’m mad or frustrated.” She turned to lay on her back, wincing when she put pressure on the spot she hurt probably when the man pushed her up against the wall.
He pulled his hand back from her hair and just stared at her. He was worried that maybe he was breaking his promise to himself, that maybe he was falling for this beauty that was laying next to him. But he quickly put his worries to the back of his mind and he got up to go grab the glass of water that was sitting on his dresser.
Walking over to her, he knelt down next to her and placed the glass to her lips. “Drink.” She decided to ignore the way he ordered her and willingly drank the water, loving the way it cooled her throat. As she drank more she sat up and grabbed the glass from him, chugging it down. When she was done she gave him the glass and he set it down on the floor and then sat next to her on the bed. He once again ran his hand over her hair and she felt soothed as her eyes drooped.
She looked over at the window and noticed it was already night time. Had she slept through the whole day? And had he laid next to her and watched sleep all day? She couldn’t answer those questions seeing as she didn’t know the answer to them and she was quickly falling into another deep slumber.
While he watched her, his worries came back to him. Would she break his stubborn, cold barrier around his heart? Would she melt it away with her warm smile and beautiful eyes?
As he stared at her, he almost didn’t care if she did.
