InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Other Kitsune ❯ A New Aura Sensed ( Chapter 1 )
Another Kitsune
A New Aura Sensed
It was sudden, like the shock of electricity. Kagome went wide-eyed with surprise and tripped over her feet. Luckily InuYasha was near and caught with ease.
"Watch what your doing, baka!" He muttered. He stood her back on her feet, but she still held that same shocked expression upon her face. "What's wrong Kagome?" She didn't respond; she seemed to be staring off into space. Finally he began to shake, and that brought her back to her senses.
"Wha…? What happened?" She shook her head, trying to clear it, and then she remembered what caught her attention in the first place. "InuYasha, something's wrong! I don't know what…but I can sense an aura nearby…" InuYasha quirked an eyebrow in response,
"An aura? Maybe it's another Shikon shard!" He grew more excited at the thought of adding another jewel fragment to their collection. Kagome shook head,
"No…it's not a shard…it's different…I can't explain it." She sat down on the ground to fully clear her head. "I don't even know where it's coming from! It's all around! Miroku, can't you sense it too?" She looked at the young monk, in hopes that she was not imagining the whole thing. He shrugged his shoulders and shook his head,
"No, I don't sense anything, are sure you're sensing an aura?"
"I don't know, but it's an eerie feeling. I know it's real," she replied. Everyone was beginning to worry about Kagome.
"Hey, why don't we head back to the village Kagome? Maybe Kaede will know something about it," offered Sango.
"Yeah, that's sounds like a good idea. Is that okay with you InuYasha?" The hanyou just huffed and turned away.
"Keh…I don't care. Always gotta go back and rest after something happens. Weakling…" He began to walk away, heading towards the village. Kagome was grateful for his "agreeing" to return without the normal five minute argument. In truth, InuYasha was worried about Kagome. He was always worried about Kagome. He just couldn't let that show. He knew the moment he opened up to her that she would just push him away, like everyone else he tried to trust once before. Nobody trusted or loved a half-breed, especially a mutt such as him. Maybe Koga was right and he didn't deserve to have Kagome with him. At the thought of that bastard he began to growl, "Yeah right! Like that bastard deserves someone like…" He shut up instantly, catching himself before he said anymore. He looked over his shoulder, but no one seemed to notice he was talking to himself at all.
It wasn't much more than a couple of days before the small group of companions finally reached Kaede's village. And still, Kagome couldn't help but feeling that strange aura. It felt closer than before, but she still wasn't certain what or whom it belonged to. Maybe she was imagining things and it was all in her head. Nobody gave a sign that they sensed the new presence.
Finally, they approached the hut of Kaede. And she walked out from behind the little bamboo curtain door,
"Ah, welcome back InuYasha, Kagome." She nodded her head in turn to everyone else. "You all must be weary from your travels. Come in, rest, and have some herbal tea with me." Everyone, save for InuYasha, was grateful for the hospitality.
"That would great Kaede!" Kagome replied. "But, I really need to bathe first. All this walking around has made all sweaty and grimy." She recalled the nearby hot springs and longed for a nice soak. Sango walked up behind her and said,
"Great, I could use a bath too. You don't mind if I join you too, Kagome?" Sango asked. Kagome shook her head,
"Not at all, I could use some company." She turned to InuYasha and Miroku. "Don't either of you DARE come and spy on us. Especially YOU Miroku." The young monk looked stricken.
"How could accuse someone like me of spying? I am a monk after all." The two girls rolled their eyes as they remembered the multiple times they caught him spying on them. Kagome grabber her backpack and both she and Sango began their walk to the spring.
When they reached their destination, Kagome set her pack down and gazed around the area. A nice, steaming pool of blue lay before her. Little butterflies fluttering above the hot spring, and the rays of the sun pouring in and lighting up the little clearing. She and Sango began to undress. As soon as they were both nude, they waded slowly into the water. She made her way to a rock and leaned against it, closing her eyes.
"Ah…this is just what I need…a nice hot bath…" All of a sudden a pulse of energy went straight through her. Her eyes shot open. The aura that she had been sensing was growing stronger with at a high pace. The energy of this new presence was weighing down on her, causing her to twinge at each pulse. As soon as she thought it couldn't get any worse it stopped instantly. She shook her head, sure that she was hallucinating. Then she heard a groan come from behind her. She turned around and was face to face with a giant black creature. Even in her terror she realized that whatever it was was injured badly. Blood was streaming down its sides. She screamed for Sango. She was on the other side of the hot spring and unable to help her. The black shape shrank from her cry.
"Help…me…" It said, hardly a whisper, before it fell unconscious into the warm pool of water, now stained with the blood of its new inhabitant.
