InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Other Side ❯ Guess Who's Back ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

The air was quiet. Not a thing moved as the battle came to a stand-still. Bodies were strewn all over the ground, dead or injured. The air was dark with the shouki that filled it but the snow still came down, and Tokyo was in worse condition then it was before. Buildings were in shambles and streets as cracked as a dry lake. The humans were retreated back, waiting for the final attack that would take them all. There was no chance that they would make it; the demons numbers were too great and powerful.

Kagome Higurashi waited with bow in hand, ready to strike. In her mind she knew this was it, but she wanted to go down fighting. She knew the youkai were waiting to strike, like a predator teasing its cornered prey. But when? Looking around at her men, she could see that they were tired as they hid behind bits and pieces of destroyed buildings. Some were praying, hoping something out there would save them; others just cried, thinking of their loved ones that could no longer be protected. Kagome wanted to cry too, but she couldn't. She must stay strong for those around her; for she is a priestess and that is her fate.
Facing forward, she looked at her enemies, waiting for the final cry that would send them all into oblivion.

“Look at them; so pathetic. We finally have them cornered.” Toga, the youkai general, jeered. He was a tall man; dark skinned, and wore a black tailored suit. His face was young, and his eyes were a solid violet with white slits for pupils. Red streaks angled down from his cheeks and disappeared into his midnight colored hair. He was formidable opponent. His claws could cut you like a ribbon.
“Look at them, my brothers! How weak they are, hiding like pray! They are finally acting like ningen should act. Now shall we just kill them and get it over with?! Or let them suffer?!” Toga yelled to his warriors. They responded with roars and yells. They were youkai of all different shapes and sizes and kind, from oni to ookami. But most of them were mixtures, like Toga, of multiple demons in one body. Thousands upon thousands of demons absorbed into one body to create one powerful demon; but none were like their great lord Naraku.

“Sir! We have captured another one! It's youki is so strong. Shall we release it and let it toy with the humans?” asked a neko youkai.

“Yes. Release our brother or sister from the realm. I wouldn't mind a show before dinner. As long as it doesn't try to eat the miko, we'll let it have some fun.” He replied with a malicious grin. Kagome was his prey and only he will have the pleasure of destroying her.

“Yes, Toga-sama.” The neko youkai laughed. After bowing to his commander, he dashed to the Gate.
The Gate was a round stone ring that seemed to float in the air, and in the center of it, a mixture of many colors swirled with an eerily glow. The gate was an opening to another world. Occasionally it would capture another demon from some unknown time and place. It was the one of the reasons that their army was so huge.

“Release it!” He ordered to the strangely cloaked youkai that worked the gate. They were creepy things. The hooded cloaks they wore covered most of their bodies and hid their faces in shadow; the only things visible were the spiraled horns on their head that pierced the hoods and their pale bony fingers.

The hooded youkai began to chant an incantation in a foreign tongue, causing the gate to shine brightly. And only moments after the spell finished, the bright light left the ring in a beam over the masses and into the middle of the battle field.
All the youkai gathered around the front, staring at the newcomer, waiting for him to make his move.

“Kagome- sama! Look!” Someone screamed as an ominous beam of light landed in-between the ningen and youkai.

“What is it?” Whispered Hojo as he ran to Kagome's side. But he already knew what it was. It was another abomination from the portal the youkai called the Gate.

“I don't know…” Kagome answered. Taking her bow, she pulled back her string, ready to strike at what would appear. The bow began to glow as she made her reiki form an arrow. She had given up on making real ones along time ago and these ones she could actually control.

A figure was visible when the light died away. He stood their in the snow, looking around at the unknown surroundings. He wore a kasa that hid his face and a raggedy straw cloak around himself that covered him to the knees; she could see the bottoms of a red hakama and black boots. Her arrow was still on target, ready to shoot of necessary.

Suddenly, the stranger leapt into the air, drawing a katana that glowed pink. And with a battle cry, the blade released a blast of reiki that began to purify the youkai. She could hear their cries of shock and agony. Kagome just stood there, not believing what she was seeing. Though harmful to demons, the blast just caressed her and her companions with warmth. They were saved! She dropped her bow in shock. The youkai began retreating, some in bits and pieces. Even Toga fled into a cloud of shouki.

The darkness in the sky disappears and the snowy clouds were visible once again. All was still except for the figure that stood in the middle snow. Putting his blade back into his sheath, he turned towards the humans and began to walk towards them. Her men became tense. Even though it saved them, they armed themselves. It was still a demon, still an enemy.

As the figure came closer, he became more visible against the white of the blinding snow. A wind blew through, causing the figures white hair to dance with it. Kagome's jaw dropped.

“Kagome, what's wrong?” Hojo asked as he placed a hand on her shoulder. She was trembling. Suddenly she broke out into a run towards the figure.
Her heart raced, could it really be him? She ignored the cries of the others. She knew now who this savior was. And nothing was going to keep her away from him.

“Inuyasha!” She cried out as she launched herself into the figure's arms and wrapped her arms around his neck. His face was hidden behind a black mask, but she could still see his eyes, his beautiful eyes.

He reached up, untied the chin strap to his kasa, and pulled the mask down from his face; revealing the rest of his astonished face. It indeed was Inuyasha.

“Kagome…” He whispered as he embraced her, hiding his face in her ebony hair, “How I have missed you.”

Finally, Kagome Higurashi, after 3 miserable and long years, cried. Finally she could feel safe again, and cry in her loves arms. Taking her hand, she caressed her hanyou's face. And in front of all who could see, Kagome and Inuyasha kissed for the first time and hoped it would never be the last.
