They both blushed as they pulled away from each other, realizing the awkwardness of the moment. Though they knew each other, they hadn't seen each other for so long and they both had matured in many way. So in away, it was kind of like kissing a stranger, and of course it was their first kiss.
“Sorry.” Inuyasha murmured, avoiding her eyes.
“S' okay…” She replied. Looking at his flushed face, Kagome studied it, getting the image that was beginning to fade back in her mind. Smiling she embrace him again. “Oh, Inuyasha! You haven't changed a bit.”
“Feh. What do you mean by that?” He retorted, finally giving her eye contact.
“I just mean I missed you.” She said softly.
“Youkai! Unhand Kagome-sama!” Hojo ordered. He held his naginata in an offensive stance. “I mean it! Let her go or I'll—“
“Hojo-kun. Its okay! He's my friend. It's Inuyasha.” She told him as she walked over, leading Inuyasha by the sleeve. Glancing at the rest of her warriors, they too had their weapons ready or were eying Inuyasha suspiciously.
“Wha? How? You told me that your well didn't work anymore. How'd he get here?” Hojo asked; he was confused. He lowered his weapon as she came near.
“Probably through the gate,” She guessed, not so sure herself.
As they continued their conversation, Inuyasha looked around confused. The city did not look like it did the last time he was there. It was a total junkyard that reeked of metal and blood. And if he remembered right, there were no demons last time either; but why were there some now?
“Inuyasha? You in there?” Kagome chimed as she waved her hand in front of the hanyou's face. Inuyasha snapped out of his train of thought and looked at her with a glare.
“Inuyasha, what's wrong?” She was suddenly taken aback by his glare.
“You told me there were no youkai in your time, Kagome. But why are there youkai now?” He growled.
She let out a sigh. “It's along story, Inuyasha. Can I tell you after we get all the men home and healed up?”
“Okay then. Just tell me what you need to do.”

Kagome had led him to the place she called the village. It was almost like a fortress, with a wall made up of scraps of metal and building surrounding it. Once inside, there was a mixture of buildings crammed together; some were familiar to what the old Tokyo buildings looked like, while others were buildings that he was more familiar with, like huts and other wooden structures. There were crop fields and rice paddies that were covered by the snow on the outskirts of the city near a forest, which Kagome explained use to be a park.
Many people had greeted them at the entrance of the village. Woman and children ran to their loved ones, while others tended to the wounded and put them onto stretchers to be taken to the hospital. A group of people went out of the village, to what he believed to go take care of the dead. Many people screamed when they saw him take off his kasa, which revealed his ears. But Kagome assured them and told him who he was, and that seemed to calm them down a bit. The people just either stared at him with smile or evil glares, while other greeted him as he was a old friend. Apparently Kagome told her people about him.
Kagome worked left and right, getting things in order and tending to the not so injured men's wounds. All Inuyasha could do was sit back and watch. One of Kagome's old friends that he recognized came and talked to him for a while, but she went back to work after being yelled at. Finally things began to calm down, and Hojo and others assured her that she could go home and rest.
Many people were wary of Inuyasha as he trudged along at Kagome's side. He noticed that people bowed to her respectively with whispers of miko-sama or Kagome-sama. Well, besides some moderns clothes to protect her from the weather, she did wear the red and white garb of a miko. Looking over at her, he realized she wasn't the same Kagome. She was a woman now. She walked with a strong step with her bow about her shoulder. Her hair was longer, much longer, about waist length. She was taller and her body wasn't so young looking. And her face was even more beautiful then he remembered, but across her cheek was a small scar.
“Were almost there, Inuyasha.” Kagome informed, knocking him out of his train of thought.
“Keh.” He said with a blush. He pulled his kasa down a bit to hide his embarrassment. Luckily she hadn't caught him staring at her, or so he thought.
“Inuyasha… How is everyone? On the other side, I mean. Tell me everything” She asked with curiosity.
“Well, to begin with,Miroku and Sango are married, and just had there third kid this summer, a boy. His name is Yasuo. And they have to girls, twins in fact, named Amaya and Ayame. Sango has basically stepped down from being a taijiya and Miroku and I would go out time to time. He's isn't so much as a womanizer anymore but he is still a hentai.”
The twins follow me around calling me, `Inu-ojii-chan'. Well not that clearly. They love playing with my ears and hair. Kaede is getting old and has seen better days, sorry to say. She was doing fine this summer, but as soon as fall came, she just got worse. Rin moved into the village and is under Kaede's watch and training, and Sesshomaru come by to check on her once in awhile.” He told her, and then continued.
“Okay—Uh. Kohaku is basically going around with Kirara slaying demons, but he doesn't come around to often. Kaede thinks it's because he can't forgive himself for what he did. Shippo stays with me when he comes to the village, but he's been wandering off more and more with other kitsune. He and everyone else miss you, Kagome.” He finally finished. They both came to a stop at the bottom of the steps to the shrine.
“I miss them too… But I missed you the most, Inuyasha. I never stopped thinking about you for a minute. Inuyasha…” She whispered as tears began to slide down her cheeks.
“Kagome, I checked the well almost everyday.” Taking her into his arms, they stood there for awhile, letting the snow collect on them. He stroked her hairs as her crying became harder.
“Inuyasha! I've been so s-scared! So many people have died! They just came out of nowhere… The demons!” She was sobbing now.
“Hush, Kagome… Tell me later if it's too hard.” He cooed.
After awhile, her tears stopped and they just held each other as the snow began to cease falling. That is, until she shivered.
“It's getting colder out. Come on, Inuyasha, lets go on inside.” She said as she left his arms and began to walk up the steps. He followed her silently.

“Inu-nii-chan! You're back!” Souta greeted. He was older know, 13. He black hair was held in a small pony tail. “Jii-chan! Jii-chan! Inuyasha's back!”
“Settle down, runt. You're going to make me deaf with all that screaming.” He scolded as he took of his boots and rice cloak at the entry way. Then Kagome noticed the under armor peeking out of his suiken's sleeves.
“Inuyasha, what's that armor for? It looks kind of like Sango's armor.” She questioned as she led him into the dining room.
“Oh, this? Yeah, it's armor, but not like Sango's. Mine is made of a dragon hide that is resistant to reiki and it keeps me pretty warm in the winter. The boots are made of the same hide also. They are similar to Sesshomaru's shoes, because the leather worker that made his boots made my armor.” He explained. He sat down by the short table.
“I thought you didn't like shoes.”
“Just because I walk around barefoot all the time, doesn't mean I hate shoes. I only wear them in winter anyway. It's really cold back there. I don't think it has ever been so cold. I was actually in the mountains trailing a missing human when I ended up here. I just walked through a pass, then darkness. And all of the sudden I was flying through the air and saw you.”
“You probably got caught in the Gate. The gate is a portal to other times and dimensions. I really don't understand it much…” She told him, then asked, “So why do you have reiki resistant armor?”
“You saw the attack I used to kill the youkai earlier right?” She nodded, and then he continued, “Well this spring, I wanted an attack on my blade that would destroy the demons without any harm coming to humans in my way. So some monks in some monastery did some mumbo-jumbo to the tetsusaiga, then I had the attack kumo-no-junsui or pure cloud. It's an attack that basically sends a blast of reiki all over the place. Tetsusaiga doesn't transform though when I use it, it just stays a rusty blade. I can use on the new moon night just fine, but when I'm normal I really don't want to purify my ass. So that's why I have the armor.” He finished.
“Oh.” Souta whispered.
“Well, youkai. You haven't changed much.” The old man said as he walked through the door and sat down on a mat.
“Same to you, jii-jii.” He mused. The old man grunted in response.
“I see that you won the fight, Kagome.”
“Yes. We would have been died if Inuyasha didn't show up.” She said. “Did you guys have dinner yet?”
“Yeah, Kagome. We ate already. Sorry.” Souta said, he sounded ashamed.
“It's okay. Inuyasha, you hungry?” Inuyasha's ears perked up at this question. It was an obvious yes.
“I'll heat up something, but first I'm going to go bathe and change first. K?” She said as she began to walk out the room and head up the stairs.
“Fine.” He replied. He leaned back and propped himself on his elbows, letting out a sigh.
“I'm going to finish my book.” Jii-chan said as he got up with a pop and left the room. “It was good to see you again, Inuyasha.” He muttered.
Looking over at Souta, he asked. “Why were you here during the fight?”
Souta blushed slightly then replied, “Kagome wants me to stay in the barrier. She says the demon could try to get me and she wouldn't be able to protect me.”
“That's good. Listen to your sister.” He ordered him. They sat there is silence for awhile.
Kagome returned into the room wearing a yellow T and some jeans. Inuyasha watched her as she walked. She smelled like soap, but not like the soap she used to wear. He could see faint bruises and scratches on her skin, this made him mad. How dare those demons harm her.
“We have some soup, do you want some?” She asked him.
“Sure, I'm starving.” He answered with a grin while sitting back up.
“Alrighty then.” She laughed as she walked out the room. Inuyasha smirked as he watched her hips sway as she walked. Yes, she filled out very nice. Those pants made her bottom just irresistible to his eyes. Souta elbowed him.
“What?” He asked, angry that he was interrupted.
“Hentai.” Souta whispered followed by some chuckles. Getting up, he left the room and went upstairs, leaving Inuyasha by himself.
“Feh.”
Kagome walked in later and handed the warm bowl to him and a spoon. Then she sat down across from him, and began to eat her food.
Inuyasha just stared at the utensil she handed him. He had always hated these. Putting down the spoon, he just brought the bowl to his lips and drake the warm soup until it was gone. He was hungrier then he thought. Kagome broke out laughing.
“What?” He snapped.
“Nothing.” She said as her fit ended. “It was just amusing watching you eat, that's all.”
“I was hungry.”
Inuyasha felt a weight, crawl into his lap. Looking down, a lump of a calico was settling itself in his lap. “Well, Buyo. Long time no see.” He began to stroke the cat, which caused it to purr.
“Kagome, you said you would tell me why there are demons in your time.” Inuyasha reminded her still stroking the cat.
“Uh, yes, I almost forgot.” She whispered. “It was not to long after the well sealed, and I started getting back into the modern life. I was in class when I sensed a youki and a swarm of youkai invaded the city… They were everywhere, killing everyone. I was the only one who could stop them. I made a barrier as well as I could around the school and went out and purified as may of them as I could… But I wasn't enough. The leader of the youkai is named Naraku, not the same Naraku who we fought, but similar. He is also an evil hanyou who absorbs demons to get powerful.”
He found me fighting and thought it was amusing that there was still a miko around. He told me that he was getting revenge and what youkai deserve. He said he wanted to destroy all humans for what they did. And after stating that, he went into with the Gate floating beside him and made a giant barrier over a huge region. Then he left. So for years we have had no contact from the outside world. We're stuck in this barrier like animals in a cage waiting for our death. If it wasn't for my little knowledge of what I learned on the other side, no one would be alive…” she stared at Inuyasha for a moment. No one spoke. Then she continued.
“We ran out of goods awhile back, so we have had to make stuff of our own. Thanks to the generators, our village still has electricity, and all of us work together to survive. We don't have school that much anymore. We basically are just learning how to fight and improve are fighting methods these days. I had to teach the people with reiki how to use it. And I have learned how to wield a katana or naginata. I'm also pretty good in judo and karate, but archery is my best. So that's all we really do these days, survive and fight.”
“Kagome… I wish I was here to help…” Was all he could say.
“Last year… They took my mom.” She finally said.
“Kagome, I—,” He started, but was interrupted.
“They capture some of us and take us away… And they took mama. I don't even know if she is dead or alive.” She spoke softly.
Looking at her sad face, he couldn't speak. He didn't know what to say or how to comfort her. “I'll find her, Kagome. I'll find the ones they have taken away and bring them back. I can promise you that.” He finally said.
“She probably is alive.” She informed.
“Your mom is tough.” He smiled.
“Yeah, she is tough, my mom.” Kagome smiled back.
Something caught Inuyasha's attention at the corner of his eye. Standing up, letting Buyo fall out of his lap, he walked over to the window and peered outside. “What the hell?”
“Oh, is it showing?” Kagome walked over next to him and looked at the sky. The sky was beginning to appear through the clouds, but it wasn't the usual night sky; there were dark orange smudges with the dark of the sky. “The night sky has been like that ever sense barrier went up and separated us from the rest of the world. The stars can't be seen anymore… I wonder if there are other places like ours out there, or if people are trying to break it from the out side.” She said.
“I've never seen anything like this. I wonder if the tetsusaiga could break the barrier.” Inuyasha thought out loud.
“Inuyasha, could you do that?” She asked excitedly.
“I don't see why not.” He shrugged.
“Inuyasha, I'm so glad your back. Now that you're here, we can do this. With you here with me, we can free everyone. We can win.” She whispered.
