The Path to Love is Paved With many Obstacles
Chapter 1: The Welcome Back
The sun was high in the sky, on another beautiful afternoon in feudal Japan. The young girl Kagome pulled herself out of the magical well that was a portal between the past, and her future.
Once out, she cautiously looked around for any sign of her half-demon friend. With him nowhere in sight, she thought she was going to get off easy for being a day late. But, her next step proved her wrong.
“Where the hell have you been!”, screamed Inuyasha as he leaped from the near-by forest. “You thought you were just going to stroll in, and nobody would know that you are a day late.”
Anger boiled over the once calm emotions of Kagome. “I had a lot of studying to do!”, She spat out, trying to vent some of this anger. “And besides, I had some unexpected company.”
Inuyasha was stopped from saying anything else, by the curiosity of who was her “unexpected company”.
Kagome noticed that she let something that she didn’t want to slip out. She looked at Inuyasha, and noticed that he seemed very curious. This just made her feel really nervous and embarrassed. With her face turning red she shyly said, “Hojo came over and wouldn’t leave until I went on a date with him.”
Inuyasha couldn’t contain himself anymore. “You were out messing around with that Hobo guy!”
Before Kagome could retaliate, Inuyasha grabbed her by the arms and started smelling her.
He smelled over her chest, neck, and face. Kagome stood there embarrassed and scared, but oddly liking the attention. Inuyasha, though, started to feel more and more depressed, as he realized that she had a human male’s scent on her.
“He held you?” Inuyasha’s voice was low and strained as he fought back his depression. “He...He even kissed you.”
Inuyasha quickly turned around and jumped away. He didn’t want Kagome to know how hurt he was to find out about Hojo.
Kagome stood there stunned for a moment. *How did he know about Hojo?*, she thought to herself. *Wait...duh, he is a half dog-demon.* *But, he looked so sad when he found out.* *Maybe he....Ah, who am I kidding, he doesn’t like me.* *He just doesn’t want his “jewel detector” to get distracted by boys.*
Kagome Finally convinced herself that Inuyasha doesn’t like her, and she headed off towards Kaede’s hut.
Meanwhile, with Inuyasha....
*How could she do that to me?* Inuyasha sat on a tree branch almost in tears. *Ok, so she doesn’t have any commitment to me, but why did she kiss Hobo?* *Why doesn’t she kiss me instead?*
He sat thinking that over for a while before coming to a conclusion. *Well, I’m just a stupid half-breed that can’t even say something nice to her. * *Why can’t I say something nice to her?*
Inuyasha became consumed by his depression, and fell asleep.
