Chapter 5

After a few weeks of searching, Souta tried as much as he can to make Shippo forget about Tir-na-nóg. For two months and four days, they didn’t go to school. They were scolded badly by Michie when one of the school’ staff rang and were grounded to not watch TV unless they read to her every night. Souta improved on his reading a lot and it wasn’t long till Michie allowed them to watch TV again.

Since it was the Easter Holidays, Souta took Shippo to their favourite shops, hoping to clear Shippo’s head of all thoughts of the white horse. Michie told them that the horse was sold to a big business man in outer Dublin.

He took him to the video store to find a new cowboy movie to watch. Cowboys were their favourite subject and watched different movies every week. When they still had Tir-na-nóg they pretended to be cowboys or Indians: cowboys they prefer.

Souta looked through the shelves, complaining that they’ve seen most of the movies already. He didn’t notice Shippo wander off towards the TV at the front desk. It was on one of the sports channels. When Souta noticed Shippo walked, he called, without tearing his gaze from the video case he was holding,

“You alright, Shippo?” But Shippo literally shouted across with the room, happiness clearly could be heard within it.

“Souta! Souta! It’s Tir-na-nóg!” Souta ran to the front desk o view the TV. It was playing the national horse competitions. Indeed there was Tir-na-nóg jumping over too high jumps for a normal young horse to leap over.

They could tell it was Tir-na-nóg because only he would be able to jump over fences like that, especially when they witnessed the horse jump over a bonfire.

Souta politely asked the man sitting behind the desk to turn up the volume. Then the screen changed to an image of an old rough looking man.

“Who is he?! Who is that man?!” Shippo demanded.

“The big business man” Souta whispered.

“Mr Hutton, where did you buy the horse?” the reporter asked on the TV. The old man smiled as he answered in a rough voice like his face.

“No actually I rid it myself 10 years ago at my stables”

“That’s a lie!” Shippo yelled. The boys watched the horse pant and his eyes roll back in exhaustion as he leapt over another fence. It was obvious they were pushing the horse. Shippo has seen enough.

“We have to get him. Come on Souta! Quick!”

Souta stared at the TV a little more before running after the kitsune.

Three officers bashed down the door to Michie’s apartment and dragged her towards the station. The surprised woman didn’t really hear the door go as she was half dazed. They took her to the station were a flock of reporters and flashing cameras poked at her face. She couldn’t really hear them since they were talking over each other but as she reached the top of the stairs she heard a woman call out “What ages are your children”

“What’ve you got to do with me kids?”

They dragged her into a small room and made her sit in front of the TV. They were showing her a white horse in a jumping competition that looked strangely familiar.

She was about to ask what this was about before she heard boys cry out from the TV. The voices could only be heard as “Tir-n! Nog!”

Suddenly the horse stopped and the rider flew over the horses head while the camera panned to see two boys get on the horses back and ride away. One of the police rewinded the video to pause at a close up of the boys. One of them was a small boy with black hair while the other sitting in front of him on the horses’ back was a kitsune.

“Are they your children?”

Michie didn’t know if to be proud or angry. Those two boys did something any traveller would do to get back what was there’s’.

“Isn’t this stealing?” Shippo asked anxiously.

“He’s ours you want to take him back?” Souta asked.

“No!”

“Well then shut up! It’s too late now!”

They could hear the sirens of the police cars coming so the boys guided Tir-na-nóg down an alleyway that lead to a thing road that looked like a one way only. They just missed the police car as they made their way opposite where the car went.

“Is it us they’re after?” Shippo looked back to see the car stop as it tried to turn towards them.

“Sure it is”

“Oh Jesus, Mary and Joseph”.

They outran the police and hid under a bridge. Souta went on lookout while Shippo spoke to the horse on what they did.

“...but I said a prayer and then I saw you on television and then... and then we rescued you and escaped and know the police are after us. What are we gonna do now Tir-na-nóg?”

After Kagome left, InuYasha was distraught. The scale he still had in his pocket began to react and burn violently. It wasn’t towards the girl. It was towards something in her possession but what?

He was quite sure the ‘pure one’ was the horse. It can take any form. Many people see it as a mineral or diamond. What is going on?

He also surprised himself when he gave Kagome the book for free Since she was poor looking and suspected that she needed whatever money she left for supplies, he felt pity and so gave it to her as she pointed, was interested in myths and legends. But to him, poor or ragged looking whatever, he still though she was beautiful.

Ack! Where did that come from?!

He groaned and shook his head to clear his thoughts. Now wasn’t the time to be thinking of those things! But he really did want to know her though.

Sighing he closed the shop for lunch and went to watch TV only to catch the news of a horse abducted by two traveller boys.

“So it wasn’t the horse after all...” Just then the phone rang. It was the council, calling for him once again...

Kagome couldn’t stop her heart as she left the shop. Why did she feel flustered? It wasn’t the heat as it was still quite chilly. She held the book her let her have in her arms tightly.

A gift

She really couldn’t wait to read this book, especially on the section on Tir-na-nóg. She was brought out of her thoughts when she noticed a few people gathered around the TV store. Curious of what could be see so interesting, she went over to find out herself.

She almost had a heart attack when she saw Souta and Shippo make a getaway with the horse Tir-na-nóg.

“By...God”

To be continued

Okay I know it’s a short chapter, but its late so I’m gonna hit the sack.

kokoronagomu: Thank you for leaving your comments I really appreciate it. I didn’t think anyone would be interested in this fic. About the ‘pure one’ last chapter InuYasha thought it was the horse that was it cause it can take an animal form and the scale reacted when the horse leapt over the bonfire. He didn’t see the sphere in the horses’ mane earlier so he assumed. The book will play a part that will be focused on something she has...I think I’m giving too much away hehe.

And I’m glad you like the progression between Inu/Kag. I find moments like that hard to write. Keep your reviews coming please
