Kagome's past has pushed her to succeed in her later adult life. Living in a world that still showed discrimination, she still refuses to let that incident shape how she sees people. Wanting to help those around her, she ends up hiring a certain hanyou as her assistant.

Chapter Seven - Instincts

"I can't keep staying here," Inuyasha informed her sadly. Seeing her facial expression portraying sadness, he mentally kicked himself for not explaining why at the beginning. "Shippo's been staying with my brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law so I could be here. I love spending time with you, Kagome, but my son is important to me."

"Oh," her mood lifted. "I guess I can stop hogging you," she smiled at him.

"Thank you for understanding," he lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "You can still hog me at work."

"Actually, I'm not sure if I want everyone to know about us," Kagome placed a hand on his chest. "I don't want them to think I'm giving you any special treatment because I'm emotionally attached to you."

"Keh, who cares what other people think?" He asked as he placed both hands on the sides of her arms.

"I want to be with you, Inuyasha, but we need to keep it a secret at work. If I wasn't the head of this company, I wouldn't hide it. I hope you're okay with that," her finger started tracing along the pattern of his shirt.

"We'll figure it out," he assured her.

"You haven't mated with her," Sesshomaru declared bluntly as he watched Inuyasha bend down to pick up the adopted fox demon.

"Mind your own business," Inuyasha growled out. "I agreed to be nice for Rin, but that part of my life doesn't concern you, Sess."

"Hn, just an observation. I figured that was why you pawned your child off on us for the week," his elder brother taunted.

"If I could explain it to you, I would. But you are impossible. I don't know how Rin deals with your snotty ass," Inuyasha took a seat on the leather chair with Shippo in his lap. "Where is she anyway?"

"Wedding preparations," Sesshomaru replied. Taking a seat in another chair, he looked over at his brother and nephew. "Is she the one?"

"The one what?" Inuyasha scoffed. Since when was his brother so interested in his personal life?

"Your demon, Inuyasha. Inuyoukai mate for life, you basic instincts should have been pushing some urges on to you by now if she was the one who is suited to be your mate."

"What instincts are you talking about?" The half-demon raised an eyebrow at his brother.

"Sexual, as well as trying to provide for her basic needs. You leaving the kit here lead me to believe you were caring for her during that time, am I wrong?"

"N-no," he admitted in defeat. Fucking Sesshomaru always had to be right.

"You must talk to her, little brother. With the human blood you carry, the demon blood could take over and scare her away."

"It's a little complicated, Sess. She's my boss and wants to keep things secretive due to work," he blurted out. Inuyasha had made it a point to keep his brother out of his life, but right now he needed some sort of help.

"Hn, being the beta to a woman," Sesshomaru knew he was going to upset his brother. But he wanted to test a theory.

"There's nothing wrong with working for a woman, Sesshomaru. I didn't realize you were that traditional," Inuyasha's eyes flashed red thinking that his brother had tried to insult Kagome.

"Oh? I was going to bring up my offer I had presented to you long ago. Help me run father's company, and the issue of her being your boss would no longer be valid." Sesshomaru had inherited their father's business, but had to agree to a certain set of terms. While Sesshomaru could be CEO, only his brother was allowed to fill the position as President. With Inuyasha out of the picture, Sesshomaru found himself at the office longer than anyone else completing the work of two people.

Glancing over, he could see Inuyasha mentally debating it. Sesshomaru really had no deep seeded issues with women in power, in fact the idea intrigued him. Knowing that he would have his own child someday, he hoped that his future son or daughter would conquer the business world.

"It is your responsibility to father, Inuyasha. I do not know why you fought it for so long, but if she is really that important for you to pursue a relationship with, this is an option. Think about it, you could buy a bigger place that would suit Shippo and Kagome."

Hearing no immediate answer, Sesshomaru pushed himself off of the chair. "This will be the last time I bring it up, little brother. Next time, you'll have to ask me for a favor."

Seeing Inuyasha sport his signature scowl, the taiyoukai smirked and walked off.
