Chapter Twelve - Till Death

“Nervous, little brother?”

“Nah,” Inuyasha straightened out his collar. “It's not like we aren't married already in demon terms. Just making it official for the records I suppose.”

“I suppose you are correct,” Sesshomaru eyebrow rose. “You've changed since she's come into your life.”

“You make that sound like a bad thing,” his fingers fiddled with the piece of leather in his hand.

“It's not,” Rin laughed and plucked the wrap from his hand. “Don't let him bug you, Inuyasha. Kagome cares deeply for you. Now sit still and let me do your hair.”

Inuyasha let out a groan, his golden eyes clashed with Sesshomaru's as Rin started brushing through the thick silver locks.

“I am surprised you agreed to this,” Sesshomaru taunted.

“I would do whatever my mate asks of me, Sess, so laugh it up while you have a chance.”

“Stop fighting with each other,” Rin scolded. “Kagome likes it when your hair is up. Though I won't repeat exactly what she said to me,” a slight blush appeared on her cheeks.

“It makes him look like father.”

“What? You jealous?” Inuyasha's signature smirk taunted Sesshomaru.

“I have to say,” Mrs. Higuarshi adjusted Kagome's bangs and used an pin to keep them side swept. “I never thought this day would come.”

“Mama…” Kagome sighed out.

“I don't mean it in a bad way, Kagome. I just didn't expect you to ever trust someone in such a way again. I should tell you that I did have a little talk with my son-in-law,” she said with a wink.

“Oh no. What did you say to him?” Kagome groaned out.

“That if he ever breaks your heart, I'll send Jii-chan after him with a fist filled with sutras,” the older Higuarshi laughed.

“Ma,” Kagome whined out. “Why would you say that to him?”

“He took it well,” Mitsuko stepped back. “Now stand up. Let's see all my hand work.”

Kagome sighed and pushed herself off of the pedestal. Turning around, she heard her mom gasp out in delight.

“Do I look okay?”

“You know your Jii-chan would have preferred you having a more traditional wedding, but I think when he sees how beautiful you look he'll forget why he was upset.” Mitsuko smiled and wiped a stray tear. “Come on, give your mother a hug.”

Kagome stared at her reflection in the mirror, waiting for her cue to meet the man she loved up at the altar in front of family and friends. The sleeveless white gown had been gifted to her from an investor at her company. She had felt guilty, but the woman had shaken her head and told her it was designed just for her.

Things had been going great at work. Ever since the public outing of her past, people had been so supportive of her. She was invited to corporate parties by her partners where she met a fashion designer named Midoriko, the same woman who had created this dress for her.

It was elegant yet casual. Kagome wasn't sure of how to exactly describe it. Either way, it fit her personality well. She knew her grandfather had always wanted Kagome to have a Shinto wedding and didn't want to disappoint him, but it was an important day.

She was marrying Inuyasha today.

After they had both told her family of the recent developments, no time was wasted planning and executing the wedding. It was seen as a somewhat political marriage due to two companies merging into one. No matter how many times Kagome and Inuyasha explained that it wasn't to members of the press, it didn't stick.

Of course, nobody's opinions influenced the couple. The marriage was more for show and legality. They already belonged to each other, there was no changing that.

But why did she feel like butterflies were going off in her stomach

“Kagome,” Sango called out. “Someone's waiting for you.”

“Thank you,” Kagome smiled. Turning around, she began to walk towards the altar. She counted her steps being mindful of how she was supposed to look like `an elegant swan' as her mom put it, but half way through the walk she looked up to see Inuyasha's golden eyes watching her. The usually free flowing hair was now tied into a high ponytail. His face showed such love and emotion it made her knees weak.

Screw swans, Kagome's pace picked up as her smile widened. I am a phoenix.

AN: That's it! It's the end! It was more of a simple story overall, but I hope you all enjoyed the ride. I had fun writing this one, maybe an epilogue will come up. Thank you to all of the reviews, favorites, and followers! You all helped push me to continue on.
