Understanding Blossoms
When Sango opened her eyes and looked at Kagura, she was surprised to see a blush bloom on the other woman's face. It made her smile and wanted to giggle. Never would she have thought to see such a sight!
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Kagura snapped, some of her old caustic attitude resurfacing.
“Well, if you don't know why, I don't think you really need to know,” Sango replied. “But there is no reason to be concerned.”
To reassure her, Sango stroked Kagura's hair. Her hand ran through the silky, curly tresses to rest with her palm against the wind sorceress's chest. Something did not feel right, and her brow furrowed in confusion. Her mind spun a moment as it tried to grapple with what was so disturbingly strange about Kagura, and then it dawned on her. She should be feeling the beat of her heart.
Kagura watched Sango, her mouth twisted down in a wry and bitter half smile.
“If you are looking for my heart beat, you won't find it,” Kagura said. “But I assure you, I am alive…if you can call this life of mine living.”
Slowly Sango's hand folded and she drew it away, her brown eyes stormy and intense. Whatever was going on here, it had to be the doing of Kagura's evil creator: a woman without a heart…but not as heartless as one would think. This was yet another revelation to Sango about the woman she had considered her enemy not long ago…
“Damn it Sango, stop looking like that,” Kagura said, taking the other woman's shoulder in a firm grip. “We all have our agenda's; you to find your brother and kill Naraku, me to regain my heart and win my freedom from my master.”
Sango sighed and nodded.
